The results of this study were as follows; 1) Wife's participation indecision-making was increased while joint decision-making was decreased compared with those of unemployed wives' family and other classes. 2) Both of the degree of conjugal participation in decision-making and joint decision-making were influenced by wife's educational level, disparity in educations of couple, husbands' occupation, family income, wife's age. But duration of marriage affected only the degree of joint decision-making. Especially family income and husbands; occupations turned to be important variables in low income families. 3) In case of wife's satisfaction with her occupation, joint decision-making was well achieved or not according to certain decision items. The purpose of the study is to examine the effects of wife's employment to the family expenditures. The data used in the study was 28,329 husband-wife families taken from 1994 Expenditure Survey of Urban Families. Also, when family income and other characteristics to be constant, expenditures of employed-wife families were more on food way from home, domestic services, public transportation, personal care services, and fees, but less on food at home, utilities, health care, and communication, compared to those of non-employed-wife families. This study examined the interactive effects between social service use and economic hardship on the family conflicts among low-income families. We analyzed data from about 2,000 low-income families who participated in both the first and the second waves of the Korean Welfare Panel Study using a hierarchical logistic regression model. The main results are as follows. First, take-up rates of social services among low-income families were very low. Second, among the low-income families who did not use any social service, families who experienced more economic hardship were more likely to experience family conflicts. Third, the higher levels of economic hardship increased the positive effects of social service of reducing family conflicts. These findings suggest that the resource for the social services be concentrated on the low-income families who tend to experience more economic hardship and thereby family conflicts and that comprehensive social services be provided in the programs which aim to promote family relationships.

The major findings obtained from this study are summarized as follows: 1) The degree of family stresses in dual-income teachers was 2.90 on a scale of 0-5.0. The most stressful aspect for the dual-income teachers came from the role of housework. 2) The degree of coping strategy in dual-income teachers was 3.48, on a scale of 0-5.0. Among the strategies, the 'cognitive restructuring' shows the first. 3) The degree of family strengths of dual-income teachers was 3.88 on a scale 0-5.0. Product characteristic approach and hedonic method were explained and applied to demand behavior of housing for 360 households sampled from four districts of Seoul. Th major findings are: 1) Housing prices are determined by housing characteristics, i.e., basic structure, interior space, interior quality, and neighborhood quality. 2) as income increase , the demand for basic structure, interior space, interior of quality, and neighbor hood quality increases. As compared to the counties that have advanced housing financial systems, income elasticity form housing characteristics was low. 3) householder's educational level has insignificant effects on the demand for neighborhood quality. 4) the housing need of family is different to a family life cycle. In the first stage, the increase of income enhances the demand for basic structure. interior space, and interior quality, but inversed with neighborhood quality. In the second and third stages, the demand for basic structure, interior space, and interior quality increases as the income increases. 5) It is predicted that the larger the family size, the more housing space is required. But in the low-income group, an increase in family size results in a decrease in the demand for interior space because expenses for food and education are indispensable ones. In the middle -income group the demand for interior space, interior quality increases as the family size increases, In the high-income group, the larger the family size the more interior quality is demanded. As mentioned above, the demand for housing is derived form characteristics and the demand behavior far housing characteristics is varied with individual household's characteristics. Therefore, the fact that different housing needs according to various income groups should be considered in housing policy.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the types of family function and mental health in low-income middle aged women using the circumplex model. Method: A descriptive research design was used. A sample of 116 low income middle aged women participated in the study. The Family Adaptability and Cohesion Evaluation Scale III was used to measure the types of family function. Mental health was measured by the SCL. Results: The types of family function identified were balance family (59.4%), extreme family (25.9%), and mid-range family (14.7%). Significant differences were found in mental health by the family cohesion (F=3.44, p=.019) and family adaptability (F=3.31, p=.023). The mental health status of extreme family was better than mid-range family and balanced family, but such result was not statistically significant (F=0.25, p=.783). Conclusion: The Circumplex model's main hypothesis was not empirically supported that extreme family has more problematic than mid-range family and balance family. These findings emphasize the need for the development of a family system model for Korean family.
