  • 콘크리트 충전 강관 기둥은 동일 단면의 비충전 강관 기둥에 비해 압축 내력이 우수하며 충전 콘크리트에 의한 강성의 향상, 국부좌굴 보강 효과에 의한 인성의 향상 등과 같은 구조적으로 우수한 점이 많다. 그러나. 강관과 충전 콘크리트의 상호작용 효과, 응력 분담율, 콘크리트의 파괴 양상 등에 대해서는 불분명한 점들이 많다. 본 연구는 일련의 실험을 통하여 고강도 콘크리트 충전 강관 기둥에 대해 재하 조건에 따른 구조적인 거동 특성에 대해 고찰하였다. 특히, 본 연구에서는 재하조건에 따른 강관과 콘크리트의 응력 분담율, 충전 콘크리트의 파괴 양상등에 대해 조사 하였다.

  • 이 연구의 목적은 단조하중과 반복하중을 받는 철근콘크리트 면부재 해석에 대한 이방향성 회전 직교축 모델의 성능을 검토하기 위함이다. 여기서 다루는 구조부재는 철근에 의하여 적절히 보강된 보, 기둥, 보-기둥 접합부, 그리고 전단벽등으로 부재의 파괴가 인장균열후 압축파괴에 의하여 일어나는 부재이다. 보통 단조하중에 대하여 사용도는 이방향성 회전 직교축 모델을 반복하중에 대하여 확장하며, 철근과 부착의 기존 재료모델과 함꼐 유한요소해석에 사용한다. 단조하중에 대하여 이방향성 회전 직교축 모델을 사용한 해석 결과는 취성파괴를 나타내는 철근콘크리트보의 실험결과와 비교된다. 또한 반복하중을 받는 전단벽의 극한하중, 비선형 변형, 핀칭 현상 등에 대하여 실험결과와 비교된다.

Structural health monitoring of seismically vulnerable RC frames under lateral cyclic loading

  • The effectiveness and the sensitivity of a Wireless impedance/Admittance Monitoring System (WiAMS) for the prompt damage diagnosis of two single-storey single-span Reinforced Concrete (RC) frames under cyclic loading is experimentally investigated. The geometrical and the reinforcement characteristics of the RC structural members of the frames represent typical old RC frame structure without consideration of seismic design criteria. The columns of the frames are vulnerable to shear failure under lateral load due to their low height-to-depth ratio and insufficient transverse reinforcement. The proposed Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) system comprises of specially manufactured autonomous portable devices that acquire the in-situ voltage frequency responses of a network of twenty piezoelectric transducers mounted to the RC frames. Measurements of external and internal small-sized piezoelectric patches are utilized for damage localization and assessment at various and increased damage levels as the magnitude of the imposed lateral cycle deformations increases. A bare RC frame and a strengthened one using a pair of steel crossed tension-ties (X-bracing) have been tested in order to check the sensitivity of the developed WiAMS in different structural conditions since crack propagation, damage locations and failure mode of the examined frames vary. Indeed, the imposed loading caused brittle shear failure to the column of the bare frame and the formation of plastic hinges at the beam ends of the X-braced frame. Test results highlighted the ability of the proposed SHM to identify incipient damages due to concrete cracking and steel yielding since promising early indication of the forthcoming critical failures before any visible sign has been obtained.

Seismic damage assessment of steel reinforced recycled concrete column-steel beam composite frame joints

  • Low cyclic loading tests are conducted on the steel reinforced recycled concrete (SRRC) column-steel (S) beam composite frame joints. This research aims to evaluate the earthquake damage performance of composite frame joints by performing cyclic loading tests on eight specimens. The experimental failure process and failure modes, load-displacement hysteresis curves, characteristic loads and displacements, and ductility of the composite frame joints are presented and analyzed, which shows that the composite frame joints demonstrate good seismic performance. On the basis of this finding, seismic damage performance is examined by using the maximum displacement, energy absorbed in the hysteresis loops and Park-Ang model. However, the result of this analysis is inconsistent with the test failure process. Therefore, this paper proposes a modified Park-Ang seismic damage model that is based on maximum deformation and cumulative energy dissipation, and corrected by combination coefficient ${\alpha}$. Meanwhile, the effects of recycled coarse aggregate (RCA) replacement percentage and axial compression ratio on the seismic damage performance are analyzed comprehensively. Moreover, lateral displacement angle is used as the quantification index of the seismic performance level of joints. Considering the experimental study, the seismic performance level of composite frame joints is divided into five classes of normal use, temporary use, repair after use, life safety and collapse prevention. On this basis, the corresponding relationships among seismic damage degrees, seismic performance level and quantitative index are also established in this paper. The conclusions can provide a reference for the seismic performance design of composite frame joints.

Testing, simulation and design of back-to-back built-up cold-formed steel unequal angle sections under axial compression

  • In cold-formed steel (CFS) structures, such as trusses, transmission towers and portal frames, the use of back-to-back built-up CFS unequal angle sections are becoming increasingly popular. In such an arrangement, intermediate welds or screw fasteners are required at discrete points along the length, preventing the angle sections from buckling independently. Limited research is available in the literature on axial strength of back-to-back built-up CFS unequal angle sections. The issue is addressed herein. This paper presents an experimental investigation on both the welded and screw fastened back-to-back built-up CFS unequal angle sections under axial compression. The load-axial shortening and the load verses lateral displacement behaviour along with the deformed shapes at failure are reported. A nonlinear finite element (FE) model was then developed, which includes material non-linearity, geometric imperfections and modelling of intermediate fasteners. The FE model was validated against the experimental test results, which showed good agreement, both in terms of failure loads and deformed shapes at failure. The validated FE model was then used for the purpose of a parametric study to investigate the effect of different thicknesses, lengths and, yield stresses of steel on axial strength of back-to-back built-up CFS unequal angle sections. Five different thicknesses and seven different lengths (stub to slender columns) with two different yield stresses were investigated in the parametric study. Axial strengths obtained from the experimental tests and FE analyses were used to assess the performance of the current design guidelines as per the Direct Strength Method (DSM); obtained comparisons show that the current DSM is conservative by only 7% on average, while predicting the axial strengths of back-to-back built-up CFS unequal angle sections.

Four different thicknesses and seven different lengths (stub to slender columns) with three overall widths to the overall depth (B/D) ratios were investigated in the parametric study. Axial strengths obtained from the experimental tests and FE analyses were used to assess the performance of the current design guidelines as per the Direct Strength Method (DSM); obtained comparisons show that the current DSM is conservative by only 7% and 5% on average, while predicting the axial strengths of back-to-back built-up CFS unequal angle sections with and without the stiffener, respectively.

Structural response of a three-story precast concrete structure subjected to local diaphragm failures in a shake table test

  • Floor inertial forces are transferred to lateral force resisting systems through a diaphragm action during earthquakes. The diaphragm action requires floor slabs to carry in-plane forces. In precast concrete diaphragms, these forces must be carried across the joints between precast floor units as they represent planes of weakness. Therefore, diaphragm reinforcement with sufficient strength and deformability is necessary to ensure the diaphragm action for the floor inertial force transfer. In a shake table test for a three-story precast concrete structure, an unexpected local failure in the diaphragm flexural reinforcement occurred. This failure caused loss of the diaphragm action but did not trigger collapse of the structure due to a possible alternative path for the floor inertial force transfer. This paper investigates this failure event and its impact on structural seismic responses based on the shake table test and simulation results. The simulations were conducted on a structural model with discrete diaphragm elements. The structural model was also validated from the test results. The investigation indicates that additional floor inertial force will be transferred into the gravity columns after loss of the diaphragm action which can further result in the increase of seismic demands in the gravity column and diaphragms in adjacent floors.

연결부분 및 교각의 배열과 일반교량의 내진성능 (Arrangement of Connections and Piers and Earthquake Resistant Capacity of Typical Bridges)

  • 사회기반시설물인 교량은 인적/물적 자원의 신속하고 원활한 이동을 위해 지장물을 극복하도록 설계/시공되는 구조물이다. 그러므로 교량의 교축방향으로 배열되는 교각의 형상과 규모는 지형의 제약을 받을 수밖에 없다. 이러한 교각의 형상과 규모는 지진하중의 전달경로를 결정하는 연결부분 배열과 함께 연결부분과 교각에 발생하는 작용력을 좌우하게 된다. 이 연구에서는 강재받침과 철근콘크리트 기둥을 연결부분과 교각으로 하는 일반교량을 대상으로 교각 및 강재받침 배열이 다른 해석모델을 설정하여 지진해석을 수행하였다. 해석결과로 구한 교각기둥과 강재받침의 강도/작용력 비로부터 각 해석모델의 연성파괴메카니즘을 구성하고 연결부분 및 교각 배열이 일반교량의 내진성능에 미치는 영향을 연성파괴메카니즘 구성 측면에서 제시하였다.

  • 지진가속도에 의한 부재의 지진거동 특성은 실험적인 방법 또는 등가의 정적실험으로부터 추정되어 온 것이 대부분이다 본 연구에서는 지진가속도에 의한 철근콘크리트 전단벽체의 지진응답 및 파괴거동 특성을 유한요소법을 사용한 해석적인 기법에 의해서 예측하였다 콘크리트 부재에서 균열은 필연적으로 발생하게 되며 이로 인한 부재의 강도 및 강성의 감소 철근의 항복 및 하중의 반복성으로 인한 균열의 개폐등이 수반된다 본 연구에서는 이와 같은 콘크리트와 철근의 비선형 특성을 고려한 이축응력상태에 대한 재료모델과 동적해석 알고리즘을 범용 수치해석기법인 유한요소법을 사용하여 해석프로그램으로 구현하였다 지진가속도를 받는 전단벽을 대상으로 지진응답 및 파괴거동등을 본 연구의 해석적인 방법으로 예측하였으며 그 결과를 신뢰성 있는 연구자의 실험결과와 비교하여 그 타당성을 검증하였다.

GFS-CFXB 내진보강법을 이용한 지진피해를 받은 R/C 건물의 내진성능 평가 및 내진보강 효과 (Seismic Strengthening and Performance Evaluation of Damaged R/C Buildings Strengthened with Glass Fiber Sheet and Carbon Fiber X-Brace System)

  • 기존 강재 브레이싱 내진보강법은 정착부의 안정성 문제와 브레이싱의 국부좌굴이 발생할 문제가 있으며, 이를 방지하기 위한 추가보강으로 인해 불필요한 자중증가 등으로 경제적인 내진보강성능 확보에 어려움이 있다. 이 연구에서는 지진피해를 받은 건물에 지진피해로 인한 기존 기둥의 연성확보를 위해서 유리섬유시트(glass fiber sheet)로 래핑을 함과 동시에 기존 철골 X-브레이싱 내진보강법에 비교해서 경량의 고강도 재료로 보강 후 추가적인 중량증가가 거의 없으며, 브레이싱 압축 좌굴거동에 자유로운 탄소섬유 앵커 X-브레이싱공법(carbon fiber X-brace)을 조합한 경제적이며 효과적인 새로운 내진보강법(GFS-CFXB)을 제안하였다. 이 연구에서 제안한 GFS-CFXB공법의 유용성을 검증할 목적으로 지진피해를 받은 골조를 대상으로 반복가력에 의한 구조실험을 실시하여 내진성능 및 내진보강 효과를 검증하였다.
