Preventive maintenance can avail the generating unit to reduce cost and gain more profit in a competitive supply-side power market. so, it is necessary to perform reliability analysis on the systems in which reliability is essential. In this paper, FMECA assessment adopted using real historical failure data in Korean power plants for apply RCM analytical method. The stochastic FMECA is an engineering analysis and a core activity performed by reliability engineers to review the effects of probable failure modes of generating unit and assemblies of the power system on system performance. Optimal RCM schedule which is considered the severity level of each generating unit and failure probability from failure prediction of generating unit can be planned using proposed FMECA with IOE index.

PM(Preventive Maintenance) can avail the generating unit to reduce cost and gain more profit in a competitive supply-side power market. So, it is necessary to perform reliability analysis on the power systems in which reliability is essential. Thus, to schedule optimal PM planning based on reliability that is defined RCM(Reliability-Centered Maintenance), FMECA(Failure Mode Effects and Criticality Analysis) assessment is very important. Therefore, in this paper, the procedure of FMECA assessment for optimal RCM is proposed by probabilistic approach using real historical failure data of combustion-turbine generators in Korean power systems. The stochastic FMECA is performed based on the effects of probable failure modes of combustion-turbine generating unit.
This paper presents a method to predict failure probability related to aging. To calculate failure probability, the Weibull distribution is used due to age-related reliability. The Weibull distribution has shape and scale parameters. Each estimated parameter is obtained from Data Analytic Method (Type II Censoring) which is relatively simpler and faster than the traditional calculation ways for estimating parameters. Also, this paper shows the calculation procedures of a probabilistic failure prediction through a stochastic data analysis. Consequently, the proposed methods would be likely to permit that the new deregulated environment forces utilities to reduce overall costs while maintaining an age-related reliability index.

The construction failures can be decreased through continuous improvement of construction process based upon the information of construction failures. Herein, the information of construction failures can be utilized as the key factor for identifying and enhancing various ineffective construction processes that can prevent failures. This research proposes a process model for the continuous improvement of construction processes by using construction failure information. Extensive reviews and analyses of literatures related to construction failures are performed to investigate its definition, type, cause, and lessons learned. This research adapts process modeling methodology and case-based reasoning for the development of the proposed CIMCP(continuous improvement model of construction process), and then suggests its framework that contains modules of case retrieval, case index, and case adaptation.
Engineering and Technology have been influencing a lot in the field of sports. Competitiveness, attributes of sports, have forced not only sports players but sports goods to enhance those performance. Particularly in the field of motorsports, the convergence of sports and technology has long been done to satisfy between performance and safety. In this study, strength analysis was carried with FEM to develop CFRP Laminate(Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic Laminate) bucket seat targeted to motorsports and car tuning industries and FIA($F\acute{e}d\acute{e}ration$ Internationale de l'Automobile) regulation was applied to design the racing seat and evaluate its strength. FEM modeling considered the attributes of composites was followed by strength evaluation based on Tsai-Wu failure index were done according to Lay-up sequence and layer numbers. The result showed that the lay-up sequence with stacking angle such as $[0^{\circ}/30^{\circ}/60^{\circ}/90^{\circ}/-30^{\circ}/-60^{\circ}]_4$ with 3mm form core was optimal selection in the field of weight and strength evaluation.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate clinical factors affecting the longevity of fixed retainers and the influence of fixed retainers on periodontal health in periodontitis patients. Methods: In total, 52 patients with at least 2 years of follow-up after periodontal and orthodontic treatment were included in this study. After scaling and root planing, orthodontic treatment with fixed appliances or clear aligners was performed. Fixed retainers with twist-flex stainless steel wires were bonded to the palatal or lingual sides of anterior teeth. Changes in clinical parameters, including the plaque index, gingival index, calculus index (CI), probing pocket depth, and radiographic bone levels, were evaluated before bonding of fixed retainers and at a 12-month follow-up. Cumulative survival rates (CSRs) for retainer failure were evaluated according to sex, site, CI, stage of periodontitis, and the severity of the irregularity with the log-rank test and hazard ratios (HRs). Results: Twelve months after bonding of fixed retainers, improvements were observed in all clinical parameters except CI and radiographic bone gain. The overall CSR of the retainers with a CI <1 at the 12-month follow-up after bonding of fixed retainers was significantly higher than that of the retainers with a CI ≥1 at the 12-month follow-up (log-rank test; P<0.001). Patients with stage III (grade B or C) periodontitis had a higher multivariate HR for retainer failure (5.4; 95% confidence interval, 1.22-23.91; P=0.026) than patients with stage I (grade A or B) periodontitis. Conclusions: Although fixed retainers were bonded in periodontitis patients, periodontal health was well maintained if supportive periodontal treatment with repeated oral hygiene education was provided. Nonetheless, fixed retainer failure occurred more frequently in patients who had stage III (grade B or C) periodontitis or a CI ≥1 at 12-month follow-up after bonding of fixed retainers.
The study investigated the behavior of plain and fibered Ultra-High Performance Concrete (UHPC) beams under varying loading conditions using integrated analysis of the flexure and acoustic emission tests. The loading rate of testing is -0.25 -2 mm/min. It is observed that on increasing loading rate, flexural strength increases, and toughness decreases. The acoustic emission testing revealed that higher loading rates accelerate crack propagation. Fiber effect and matrix cracking are identified as significant contributors to the release of acoustic emission energy, with fiber rupture/failure and matrix cracking showing rate-dependent behavior. Crack classification analysis indicated that the rise angle (RA) value decreased under quasi-static loading. The average frequency (AF) value increased with the loading rate, but this trend reversed under rate-dependent conditions. K-means analysis identified distinct clusters of crack types with unique frequency and duration characteristics at different loading rates. Furthermore, the historic index and signal strength decreased with increasing loading rate after peak capacity, while the severity index increased in the post-peak zone, indicating more severe damage. The sudden rise in the historic index and cumulative signal strength indicates the possibility of several occurrences, such as the emergence of a significant crack, shifts in cracking modes, abrupt failure, or notable fiber debonding/pull-out. Moreover, there is a distinct rise in the number of AE knees corresponding to the increase in loading rate. The crack mapping from acoustic emission testing aligned with observed failure patterns, validating its use in structural health monitoring.
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to report the effect of Traditional Korean Medicine therapy on climacteric symptoms in premature ovarian failure patient. Methods: The patient in this case was 32 years old female. She had a history of the right side ovariectomy and antituberculous chemoteraphy caused by pelvic tuberculosis. And she was diagnosed with premature ovarian failure in October, 2007. She had a climacteric symptoms when she admitted to the OBGY department of Se-Myung University in Je-Cheon. She received Korean Medicine therapies such as herbal medicine, moxibustion, acupuncture. We evaluated patient's health status by Kupperman's index and VAS. Results: After the treatment, the climacteric symptoms in premature ovarian failure patient was improved. Conclusion: This case study shows that Korean Medicine therapies have significant effect on climacteric symptoms in premature ovarian failure.
Intensive rainfall during the summer season in Korea has triggered numerous devastating landslides outside of downtown in mountainous areas. The 2D slope stability analysis that is generally used for cut slopes and embankments is inadequate to model slope failure in mountainous areas. This paper presents a new 3D slope stability formulation using the global sliding vector in the limit equilibrium method, and it uses an ellipsoidal slip surface for static and quasi-static analyses. The slip surface's flexibility of the ellipsoid shape gives a lower FS than the spherical failure shape in the Fellenius, Bishop, and Janbu's simplified methods. The increasing sub-columns of each column tend to increase the FS and converge to a steady value. The symmetrical geometric conditions of the convex turning corners do not indicate symmetrical failure of the surface in 3D analysis. Pseudo-static analysis shows that the horizontal seismic force decreases the FS and increases the mass volume at the critical failure state. The stability index takes the FS and corresponding sliding mass into consideration to assess the potential risk of slope failure in complex mountainous terrain. It is a valuable parameter for selecting a vulnerable area and evaluating the overall risk of slope failure.
The risks of debris flows caused by climate change have increased significantly around the world. Recently, landslide disaster prevention technology is more focused on the failure and post-failure dynamics to mitigate the hazards in flow-prone area. In particular, we should define the soil strength and flow characteristics to estimate the debris flow mobility in the mountainous regions in Korea. To do so, we selected known ancient landslides area: Inje, Pohang and Sangju debris flows. Firstly we measured physical and mechanical properties: liquidity index and undrained shear strength by fall cone penetrometer. From the test results, we found that there is a possible relationship between liquidity index and undrained shear strength, $C_{ur}=(1.2/I_L)^{3.3}$, in the selected areas, even though they were different in geological compositions. Assuming that the yield stress is equal to the undrained shear strength at the initiation of sliding, we examined the flow characteristics of weathered soils in Korea. When liquidity index is given as 1, 1.5 and 3.0, the debris flow motion of weathered soils is compared with that of mud-rich sediments, which are known as low-activity clays. At $I_L=1$, it seems that debris flow could reach approximately 250m after 5 minutes. As liquidity index increased from 1 to 3, the debris flow propagation of weathered soils is twice than that of low-activity clays. It may be due to the fact that soil masses mixed with the ambient water and then highly fragmented during flow, thereby leading to the high mobility. The results may help to predict the debris flow propagation and to develop disaster prevention technology at similar geological settings, especially for the weathered soils, in Korea.
