In mobile channel environments, the effect of the multi-path fading reduces the performance of the mobile communication severely. Previous studies on the effect of the multi-path fading show that, only the channel between fixed base stations and mobile terminals are considered. However, the future mobile communication service such as telematics may use the communication between moving mobile terminals, so called mobile ad-hoc communication, the studies on the channel is required for such situations. In this paper we have measured the mobile channel and analyzed the fading characteristics when using the linear array antennas. In the data measurements, we sent the QPSK modulated signal with carrier frequency of 2GHz band and received the signal using the array antennas equipped on moving vehicles. We have analyzed the fading characteristics and the effects of the fading reduction using the CDF of fading depth using data collected from two moving vehicles. The simulation results show that the beamforming technique adds 6 or 7dB to the fading margin than that of the selection diversity depending on channel environments.

In this paper, we analyze the multipath fading and the inter-satellite interference considering the satellite mobility in the LEO mobile satellite communication networks and evaluate the link perfodrmance for various wave propagation environments and reliabilities of communiation system. Multipath fading is estimated by analyzing the variation of fading margin for the satellite motion in rural, urban and suburban environments. The inter-satellite interferences are classified into 8 bypes with respect to interference path. The interferences evaluated in the paper are as follows:intra-LEO satellite interference, inter-LEO satellite interference, and GEO satellite to LEO satellite interference. As a conclusion, this apaper analyzes the change of elevation anagle and propagation distance with respect to time in the LEO satellite netwoek and prosents the variation of link margin continuously.

In this paper, the DMR(Digital Microwave Radio) system-based OFDM(Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) scheme in microwave channel environments has been proposed and system performances have been evaluated. The existing single carrier DMR system has a complex system structure due to using high-level QAM(Quadrature Amplitude Modulation) modulation scheme and so charmel capacity is limited by sensitive effects from fading. Therefore, in the proposed DMR system, it uses that the OFDM scheme for enhancement of fading distortion and also uses that the band-limited pulse shaping filter instead of windowing for no additional data such as GI/GB and for using efficient of IFFT/FFT block. The performance of OFDM/QPSK-DMR system and single carrier DMR system are analysed by computer simulation using two-ray model under the microwave channel environments The computer simulation results confirm that the fade margin of the proposed OFDM/QPSK-DMR system is highly increased as the number of sub-carriers is larger.

In non-geostationary orbit(NGSO) satellite communication links, satellite's elevation angle at terminal is changed continuously because of the satellite movement relative to earth surface. Therefore the characteristics of the fade-effected signal received by a terminal from a NGSO satellite is also varied continuously even if the terminal is operated at fixed location. In this paper, we determine a general statistic model for the fading characteristics over NGSO satellite communication links and set up the parameters of the fading model in terms of the elevation angle according to various propagation environment and find the parameter values using the data of fading margin for commercial NGSO mobile satellite communication systems. And the fading charateristics for each environment are analyzed using this model. These results can be applied to develop the compensation algorithm and to analyze the performance of the transmission schemes for NGSO mobile satellite communication systems.

This paper presents a simple dynamical prediction scheme of the signal level which is attenuated and varied due to rain fading in satellite communication links using above 10GHz frequency bands. The proposed prediction scheme has four functional blocks for discrete-time low-pass filtering, slope-based prediction, mean-error correction and hybrid fixed/variable prediction margin allocation. Through simulations using Ka-band attenuation data obtained from the data measured over Ku-band by frequency-scaling, it is shown that the slope-based prediction with the mean-error correction has as small standard deviation of prediction error as below 1 dB, and that the error is about 1.5 to 2.5 times as small as that without the mean-error correction. The hybrid prediction margin allocation requires smaller average margin than those of both fixed and variable methods.
This paper investigates the link margin of MB-OFDM UWB system quantitatively. Various simulations are performed considering the implementation loss by imperfect synchronization unit and the effect of multi-path fading channels. MB-OFDM UWB system uses ZP(Zero Padding) instead of CP(Cyclic Prefix) and supports two transmission modes; one is TFI(Time Frequency Interleaving) mode that transmits OFDM symbols using different carrier frequency from symbol to symbol according to Time Frequency(TF) codes, the other is FFI(Fixed Frequency Interleaving) mode that transmits OFDM symbols using a specific carrier frequency. The advantage of if and TFI is to be able to increase the transmitting power effectively compared to the existed OFDM systems that transmit the signal continuously at the same average transmitting power. From the analysis results of Ink margin, to guarantee the service range of 4m in 200Mbps mode, TFI mode must necessarily be implemented and the service range of 480Mbps mode is estimated about 1-2m in the line-of-sight multi-path channel (CMI).

The ignition noises from the vehicle are measured and the measurement data are statistically treated for modeling. The low-noise amplifier and band-pass filter are added between the receiver and the three axes antenna for low noise level measurement and the APD and PSD are measured in 800 MHz frequency range. The measured APD curves can be expressed in terms of sensitivity study of each model through 3(class A) or 6(Class B) parameters variation, and these optimal parameter can easily be calculated by using the Composite Approximation Algorithm. The selected APD parameter can be used for making the Data Base EM-environments and also applied to determine the output and sensitivity margin for the transmitter and receiver. 'Digital microwave transmission systems are equipped with equalizer against fading during multipath fading. In this paper, we proposed variable reference tap position equalizer that varies the reference tap according to fading type to archive better performance. We got the perf?mance improvement about 4~5 dB in MP condition and 2~3 dB in NMP condition from simulation results.
In this paper, we discuss the recent trends on the passive UHF RFID tag chip design techniques and several important system parameters. We also summarize link budget studies on both conventional and modem UHF RFID communications. The paper highlights the reverse link limited case, which has known to be the minor concern if reader continuous wave (CW) can reach the tag in sufficient level. This makes sense when the tag sensitivity is rather high (over 10-12${\mu}W$); however, since the tag chip fabrication technologies have been developed by time, the tag chip threshold levels are now less-dominant in determining link margin. If the tag limitation can be alleviated, the forward link limited case can be resolved; thus, we rather focus on the path-loss problem. Since the path-losses are still exist in both forward and reverse links, and it can be doubled while CW travels the reader-tag-reader path because forward link and reverse link are on the same distance. Consider if reader receiver sensitivity is very high in the worst case. In this case, weaken tag response (i.e., backscatters) cannot reach the level that reader receiver can process tag data; bit-error rate can be higher. Overall, backscatter levels should be high enough so that reader receiver can correctly function. After discussing link budget, we carried out practical measurements on fading effects between two circularly polarized UHF RFID antennas in a small scale area.

Multi-Platform Image and Intelligence Common data link(MPI-CDL) systems are designed to transmit the imaginary and signal intelligence data at an aeronautical to ground line of sight(LOS) link. This paper proposes a method to predict a link availability and analyzes the required link margin to satisfy a given link availability for MPI-CDL systems. To estimate a link availability the proposed method applies the conditional probability so that both a rain attenuation and a multipath fading are considered simultaneously. Link margins to meet the link availability for MPI-CDL systems are calculated according to an operating environment including frequencies, flight altitudes and transmission ranges. The required link margins for actual unmanned air vehicle systems are also given by simulation results.
