  • The main concept of social carrying capacity is based on the principle that 'there are limits to the number of users a given recreation site can accommodate in order to provide quality of recreation experience'. The quality of the experience is revealed as user's satisfaction and perceived crowding. In this respect, studies of social carrying capacity have been frequently conducted by measuring perceived crowding and satisfaction. The purpose of this study is to identify the variables affecting perceived crowding, and causality bet-ween satisfaction and perceived crowding. Four hundred seventy six visitors were selected at Naejangsan National park on peak day of autumn excursion through on-site survey. The collected data were applied by factor analysis for categorizing the research variables, and multiple regression for finding the causality among variables. The study results are follows. The expectation of crowding, as a normative variable for perceived crowding, are categorized by three factors; circulation, user facility, and landscape. The circulation factor is the most powerful affecting perceived crowding among three factor. The landscape factor, however, do not have statistical significance on perceived crowding. The causality between satisfaction and perceived crowding is found. Although this relation is significant in statistics, magnitude of the coefficient is very small. It might be interpreted that satisfaction cannot be predicted simply from a user's perception of crowding, but a multi-dimensional concept such as adaptation and coping behavior.

  • As the South Korean government has recently announced its intention to implement a three-year policy on building additional libraries and complex community centers as the community-based everyday life SOC project, society has shed new light on libraries as public service institutions. Accordingly, this study was conducted to determine the factors affecting resident satisfaction with public libraries, intention to use, and intention to recommend public libraries, for use as basic data to increase resident satisfaction and use of public libraries in South Korea. To this end, we conducted a survey on residents who have experience with using 13 public libraries designated as regional representative libraries in South Korea. The surveyed data was verified with a structural equation using AMOS. The results were as follows. First, all factors, such as material, facility, staff, program, and service, except location and space, had a significant effect on resident satisfaction with public libraries. Second, it was found that satisfaction had a significant effect on the intention to use and intention to recommend. The results of this study may contribute to qualitatively improving public library services by reflecting the changing needs of users, as well as social trends at the working level of libraries in South Korean society.

All statistical analyses are conducted by the SPSS package program (ver 20.0). The results of the statistical analyses are as follows: The validity of the 22 food service selection attributes is being evaluated via the exploratory factor analysis and then five factors are extracted. The five factors are: 'Factor 1. Cleanness and service quality', 'Factor 2. Food quality and price', 'Factor 3. Physical environment', 'Factor 4. Convenience', and 'Factor 5. Service environment'. According to the results of one-way ANOVA, physical environment showed that significant differences across the periods of residence in Korea and the eating frequency at on campus foodservices. On the other hand, the food quality and price, convenience, and service environment showed that significant differences across the periods of residence in Korea. In addition, according to the Importance-Satisfaction Analysis results, 'ventilation of dining room' is the key aspect that university food service managers should reinforce. In conclusion, in order to increase the customer satisfaction rates, the food service managers should not only improve the quality of food and service but also the physical environments of the food service facility.
