The validity of new building prototypes must be confirmed to support the design process for comparable future projects. This project invovled a post-occupancy study at a new women's health center that provides LDR/P (labor, delivery, recovery, postpartum). The study's objectives were to test whether the intentions of the designers were effectively executed, to provide feedback to the hospital about the new facility, and to provide design guidelines.
As environmental problems accompanied by industrialization have emerged worldwide, solar and wind energy have entered the stage of commercialization, especially in Korea. In addition, research on improving aesthetics using solar cells is being actively conducted. Examples include developing a transmissive solar cell and developing a solar cell with flexibility and color. Therefore, in line with the upward trend of solar cell development and solar cell-based public facility installation, we will present guidelines for designing public facilities using solar cells to improve aesthetics. First of all, components were derived to increase the suitability of solar cell application through literature surveys on solar cells and case studies on public facilities using solar cells. Next, through prior research on public facility guidelines, we established evaluation principles and drafted design guidelines. Based on this, a Delphi survey was conducted on a group of experts to verify its validity. Design guidelines for solar cells application measures to improve the final public design aesthetics were derived. The goal is to improve the public facilities using solar cells, through Accessibility and cognition, Usability, Shape and aesthetics, Sustainability and energy efficiency, Continuity with the urban landscape. And it is expected that this data will be used to improve the aesthetics of public design using solar cells in the future.

Urban parks play the role of providing leisure spaces for people in their everyday life along with serving ecological functions in the city. Although urban parks aim to satisfy the needs of users visiting the park, most urban parks are currently uniformly created and maintained without considering the environmental characteristics based on the needs of users. This study thus analyzed parks that underwent modifications in line with the revised Park Act in 2005. There were 45 parks whose types were legally changed, of which 21 were changed from children's parks to small parks, and 19 were changed to utilize and highlight the themes such as cultural parks and historical parks. Among the parks whose types have changed, the ratio of amenities in cultural and historic parks has increased, while the facility area in small parks has decreased and the green area has increased in its place. As a result of analyzing the changes to the park facility area, it was confirmed that increasing park amenities has a positive effect in pursuing revitalization of use through park maintenance, but has a negative consequence of significantly decreasing green area. It is necessary to reorganize the park type classification system to reflect the park environment and prepare guidelines for a new installation standard by park type to expand the net function of parks in cities and maintain the sustainable ecological environment. Through in-depth discussions on the facilities of park types, it is anticipated that innovative and multilateral research could be conducted to prepare improvement measures tailored to the guidelines of urban park types in years to come.

Purpose: The MERS(Middle East Respiratory Syndrome) outbreaks in Korea highlighted dramatically the failings of traditional hospital environment for controlling or preventing infections among both patients and healthcare workers. MERS is transmitted by droplets that can be airborne over a limited area. The point should be emphasized that MERS in South Korea was predominantly a hospital-acquired (not a community-acquired) infection, because approximately 93% of MERS cases were resulted from exposure in hospital settings. This paper tries to suggest the design guidelines of negative pressured isolation ward for the sake of proper control of severe respiratory infectious diseases. Methods: Literature survey on the design guideline and regulations of airborne infection wards in Korea, Europe U.K. and CDC of U.S. have been carries out. 4 special infection wards in Hongkong, Germany, Japan and Korea have been surveyed in order to make the best use of the experiences related to facility design and operations. Results: Operating system influencing the facility design, space organizations of infectious ward including required space and zoning, and circulations of patients, staffs and materials are proposed. Implications: The results of this paper can be the basic data for the design of the airborne infection ward and relevant regulations. Afterwards in-depth study such as the development of space standards for the single bedroom, locker room and so on could be explored.

Purpose: This study analyzed the status of general hospitals as an expanded concept of medical resources including medical staff and equipment. The purpose of this study is to provide a basic for the feasibility study of the scale and establishment of facility guidelines at the planning stage of general hospitals. Methods: The subjects of this study were limited to general hospitals. The status of medical resources was based on the data of the Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service. The number of beds, doctors, nursing grades and major medical equipment were surveyed in 335 general hospitals. Results: 1) The characteristic of general hospitals varies depending on the number of inpatient beds. To be concrete, there were differences in the number of medical staffs and equipments in general hospitals based on 300 500 800 1,000 beds. 2) As the number of hospital beds increases, the number of medical staff increases more than medical equipment and facilities. Medical equipment and facilities remain constant, even when the number of beds increases. On the other hand, the number of medical staff increased about 1.5 times in each level. Implications: Architectural plans for medical staff should be considered differently depending on the number of beds. In particular, architectural planning and facility guidelines should be applied differently based on 300 and 500 beds.
The primary purpose of this research was to set up the standard guidelines for the planning of interior architectural environments of the detention facilities at the Korean Police Stations. By visit-studying the actual interior environmental conditions of 5 different kinds' domestic Correcting Facilities and 5 domestic police detention facilities and 2 foreign police detention facilities, comparing them to the existing Korean correctional institutions' cell facilities, that the strengths and weaknesses had been analyzed to extract the main concepts and the planning scheme for the Standard Korean Police Detention Facilities. By reserching the National human Right Commitee's Anual Reports, three different indexes were picked out for those analysis : the Environmental control index, the Detention Service support index, the Environmental support index. These three indexes will be used as Key factors for the planning of interior architectural environments of the detention facilities at the Korean Police Stations.: (1)the Environmental control index to establish the Space Program, the Spatial Hierarchy and the horizontal & vertical Security Blocks, (2)the Detention Service support index for the central Environmental Control & Security System, the Secured Privacy for both detainees & police offices, (3)the Environmental support index for the gender-respected segregation of cell zones, the psychological & physical safety design factors, the construction standards of all rooms in a detention facility. The result of this study should be used as the guidelines for "The Standard Plans and Regulations for the Korean Police Detention Facilities" to respect fundamental human rights.

This research is concerned with environment problems related to Munhwa-Maul where Korean government are financially much supporting in developing housing sites and constructing houses. The purposes of this research are to find out the problems and to present the practical guidelines in order to improve an environmental quality of Munhwa-Maul in which will be under construction in the near future. The method for finding out the problems are based upon the most atisfaction and dissatisfaction of residents with opened interview. Both Mueur Munhwa-Maul and Umo Munhwa-Maul are considered for this research because Mueur Munhwa-Maul is characterized with a modern village where is located far from the city while Uo Munhwa-Maul, near the city. Also, these Munhwa-Mauls have been firstly constructed. The interview participants are 34 persons in all. They are confined to Mueur Munhwa-Maul and Umo Munhwa Maul that have been firstly constructed in Kyeongook. According to the interviews, each 60% of both Mueur Munhwa-Maul interview participants and Umo Munhwa-Maul ones have shown the their most positive satisfaction in a new housing and facility. It can be seen from that these figures that housing environment including facility of both Munhwa-Mauls is surely improved and successful. On the other hand, 43.8% of Mueur Munhwa-Maul participants and 14% of Umo Munhwa-Maul ones have particularly shown the most negative satisfaction in a size of housing lot. Also, 15.6% of Mueur Munhwa-Maul interview participant and 44% of Umo Munhwa-Maul ones have stated the most dissatisfaction in a traffic convenience. The reasons showing these differences are likely that 90% of Mueur Munhwa-Maul residents are farmer while 85% of Umo Munhwa-Maul ones are not farmer. With this results the purpose of munhwa-Maul project that government has been supporting and the reality of Umo Munhwa-Maul could be never coincident. Therefore, it can be inferred that housing layout should be reconsiderd to be appropriate for agriculture and that the government should carefully consider the contributions of new housing lot to real farmers. In addition, we can say that Munhwa-Maul project should be firstly accomplished in the district far from the city rather than near the city.

Currently, convergence research is being conducted in various research facilities in Korea, but it is true that there are very few multi-purpose convergence research facilities that can support such convergence research in universities, which are the most basic research group. In the case of multi-purpose convergence research facilities installed in universities, human resources from more diverse fields gather to conduct various studies than general research facilities, so the facilities should be planned to reflect these characteristics, and the space should be planned to promote human exchanges. The basic guidelines for planning multipurpose convergence research facilities installed in universities are as follows. First, multi-purpose convergence facilities in universities should be based on the habitability and convenience of users who use the facilities, and functionality, promotion of human resource exchange, symbolism, and eco-friendliness should be set as major planning factors. Second, in the case of internal planning, it is necessary to secure a efficient research and public space, a short and clear movement and evacuation plan, a future-oriented image and symbolism, an eco-friendly facility plan, efficiency through zoning and modularization, and future expansion. Third, in the case of size setting, it is appropriate to plan around 18,000m2 of total floor area, and considered safe to plan around 45% of research & education area, 6% of support area, 5% of convenience area, 4% of exhibition area, and 40% of public areas by use, but additional reviews should be conducted according to the situation of each university or local region.
In response to the development of IT technology in the 21st century and the advancement of the public human rights consciousness, it has become necessary to continuously evolve the office environments to support the changes of organizational structure and work methods of the police investigation departments. As a facility standard, continuous researches on standardized design space models and guidelines of the police investigation departments are needed. In respond to the organizational changes for the convenience of the working police investigators and the protection of the human rights of the visiting public, the environmental improvement projects for the office of the investigation department of the police stations are going on since 2014. In this study, analyzation and verification of the 3 cases of pilot projects for the improvement of police investigation departments would be done, based on the policy research project in 2014: 'the standard design direction of police officers for the protection of human rights and benefit of police investigation process.' The purpose of this study is, first of all, the actual situation survey for presenting the standard design space model and guidelines of investigation department of the police department. Secondly, the validation of the spatial model adequacy for for the past 3 years' case study of the police investigation department's environmental improvements by the application of standardized design space models and guidelines. The result of this study would be to enable the more effective police department investigation environment improvement policy by presenting the standard design space models and guidelines of the investigation departments of the police facilities.

The purpose of this study is to set the direction of development of the design guideline of the New-Hanok-Style public building in apartment complex and to use it as basic data for future architecture plans. The existing Hanok architecture standards and guidelines were analyzed and the characteristics of New-Hanok-Style Public Building in apartment complex were applied. The planning direction of the design guideline was derived. First, although the criteria and guidelines related to the Hanok produced and distributed were classified differently according to the purpose of production, the details and contents were similar. Second, the general planning criteria items were divided into layout, external space plan, building plan, and performance plan. Third, the elements of 'creative inheritance of traditional architecture' and 'modern building technology', which are the characteristics of New-Hanok-Style Public Building, were applied. In addition, we analyzed elementary welfare facility guidelines and applied elements such as layout type and zoning setting. Fourth, a special planning standard for applying the building system required for the New-Hanok-Style Public Building in apartment complex was added. In the future, it is expected to revitalize New-Hanok-Style Public Building containing the unique identity(genetic factor; DNA) of the nation by developing and disseminating relevant building standards, design guidelines, and maintenance manuals.
