Background: Midfacial fractures frequently involve the maxillary sinus, leading to maxillary sinus pathology. We aimed to examine the incidence and contributing factors of maxillary sinus pathology in patients who underwent open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) for midfacial fractures. Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on patients who underwent ORIF for midfacial fractures at our department over the past 10 years. The incidence of maxillary sinus pathology was identified clinically and/or by computed tomography findings. Factors that significantly influenced the groups with and without maxillary sinus pathology were examined. Results: The incidence of maxillary sinus pathology in patients who underwent ORIF for midfacial fractures was found to be 11.27%, with sinusitis being the most common pathology. Maxillary sinus pathology was significantly associated with the presence of a blowout fracture involving both the medial and the inferior orbital walls. Factors such as sex, age, diabetes mellitus, hypertension, smoking, inflammatory disease, follow-up period, use of absorbable plates, and use of titanium plates did not have a significant impact on the development of maxillary sinus pathology. Conclusion: The incidence of maxillary sinus pathology in patients who underwent ORIF for midfacial fractures was relatively low, and in most cases, it resolved without the need for specific treatment. Consequently, there may not be a significant need for concern regarding postoperative maxillary sinus pathology.

Axenfeld-Rieger syndrome is a rare autosomal dominant disorder characterized by various ocular and extraocular malformations. The incidence of Axenfeld-Rieger syndrome has been estimated to be 1 per 200,000. The syndrome is characterized by short body stature, delayed bone age, and deficient or arrested development of neural crest cells involving the anterior chamber of the eyes, facial bones, teeth, periumbilical skin, and cardiovascular system. This is a case of a 6 year-old girl, who came to the department of the pediatric dentistry, Yonsei University Dental Hospital, for evaluation and treatment of multiple congenital missing permanent teeth. The patient presented typical dental, craniofacial, and systemic features of Axenfeld-Rieger syndrome, such as glaucoma, oval pupil, heterochromatic iris, umbilical hernia, and delayed bone age. On the panoramic view, 3 primary teeth were missing and 13 permanent tooth germs were absent. On the lateral cephalograph, underdevelopment of the maxilla and normal growth pattern of the mandible were confirmed. Periodic dental follow-up is planned for evaluation and interceptive treatment of her dental and craniofacial problems. Denture or removable space maintainer with a pontic is considered for esthetic and functional restoration. In addition, orthognathic surgery is also planned in future to prevent further midfacial skeletal deformation. Early diagnosis of Axenfeld-Rieger syndrome is very important to prevent exacerbation of complications, such as glaucoma and skeletal deformities.
The majority of the commonly used protraction headgears for the protraction of small and/or retropositioned maxilla not allow a change in the point of force application or direction of the force delivery to attain predictable results because of the position of the upper and lower lips to avoid discomfort to the patient. The purpose of this study was to investigate the initial reaction of maxillofacial complex according to the change of force variables such as direction and point of force application with designing an antenna type-modified protraction head gear. A macerated human skull with well aligned upper teeth was used to experimental model and the investigation was done by double exposure holographic interferometry. Fringe patterns of each protraction conditions were compared and analized. The results were as follows. (Frontal view) 1. The Counterclockwise rotation of the maxilla was showed by parallel protraction to occlusal plane and the fringe was decreased in number as higher point of force application. 2. Generally, the number of fringe was increased in 500gm of protraction force than in 300gm. 3. When apply the protraction force to the maxilla with rapid palatal expansion, the direction of fringe patterns was differed from the protraction without expansion. 4. In most of cases, the counterclockwise rotation was decreased in case of the direction of the force is $20^{\circ}$ downward to occlusal plane compared to the parallel direction. 5. At the point of force application is 15mm above and the direction of force is 20 downward to occlusal plane , the translation of the maxillary complex was showed. (Lateral view) 6. The direction of fringe patterns of the facial bones were differed each other by the sutures, and showed almost parallel when apply the 300gm and 500gm of protraction force. 7. In case of rapid palatal expansion with protraction of the maxilla, the fringe patterns between the maxillary area and the area from the posterior of the maxillary first molar to the pterygomaxillary fissure were differed. In case without rapid palatal expansion, the changes of direction and point of the force application did not affect to the direction and the number of the fringe patterns.
[$Bj\ddot{o}rk$] and Skieller concluded after following facial growth patterns using implants in upper and lower jaw bones that stable structures, which are not influenced by the growth do exist and so these must be the reference landmarks in the process of superimposition. In spite of such facts, for the last 40 years since the discovery of stable structures, most orthodontists have preferred best fit superimposition method to structural method. Cases such as Angle's Class II division 2 malocclusion that show characteristic forward and upward growth or one under long period of post-treatment observation demonstrate that distinct differences exist between the two methods of superimposition. Today, ethical concerns prohibit further growth studies that use implants, md so there is no choice but to use stable structural superimposition method based on $Bj\ddot{o}rk's$ data. Thus, to encourage clinical use of stable structural superimposition method, logic for the use of stable structural superimposition method will be demonstrated, and its technical methods of application will be introduced step by step.
Anatomical changes in the facial and alveolar bones occur after multiple teeth are extracted. In the maxilla, the alveolar bone is absorbed in the direction and inclination of the root, and the remaining alveolar bone becomes shorter, reducing the diameter of the arch. In addition, as the nasolabial angle increases, the support of the lips and the aesthetics of the face are lost. This case reports a functional and aesthetically satisfactory results of full mouth rehabilitation with the implant-supported fixed prosthesis using a zirconia framework.

Patients with cleft lip and palate usually show up maxillary hypoplasia. In these cases, a large amount of maxillary advancement is often needed to correct the severe deformity, but local soft-tissue scars around the maxilla restrict maxillary advancement and increase the relapse rate. Maxillary distraction osteogenesis is an effective method for facial and occlusal improvement in these patients. By gradually lengthening both the bones and the soft tissues, distracted midface can greatly increase postoperative stability and decrease the relapse rate. However, the maxillary extraoral appliances of the early days used were esthetically unappealing as well as difficult for the patient to manage. Recently, more inconspicuous intraoral distraction appliances have been developed and used with success. We acquired favorable result in two patients(bilateral 1 patient and unilateral 1 patient) with severe maxillary hypoplasia secondary to complete cleft lip and palate were treated with midface distraction using internal distractor (Zurich Pediatric Maxillary Distractor, KLS Martin, Tuttlingen, Germany). So, we report our experience with literatures.

The purpose of this study was to obtain information on the clinical and radiographic features of the fibro-osseous lesions in the jaws. For this study, the author examined and analysed the clinical records and radiographs of 71 cases of 68 patients in fibrous dysplasia, 35 cases of ossifying fibroma and 30 cases of 16 patients of periapical cemental dysplasia diagnosed by clinical and radiographic or histopathological examinations. The obtained results were as followings: L Fibrous dysplasia occurred most frequently in the 2nd decade (30.0%), ossifying fibroma in the 3rd-4th decades, periapical cemental dysplasia in the 4th decade, and all of three lesions showed slight predilection in females. In most cases, chief complaints were painless facial swelling in fibrous dysplasia and ossifying fibroma, and periapical cemental dysplasia was found accidentally in radiographs. 2. Fibrous dysplasia was occurred more frequently in maxilla, ossifying fibroma in mandible and both lesions in premolar-molar area. Periapical cemental dysplasia was occurred most frequently in the mandibular anterior area. The size of fibrous dysplasia was larger than that of ossifying fibroma, and the shape of ossifying fibroma was more round and elliptical than fibrous dysplasia whose was fusiform. 3. Fibrous dysplasia was shown homogeneous radiopaque shadow of 57.6% and ossifying fibroma & periapical cemental dysplasia were shown mixed appearance of radiolucency and radiopacity shadows at 74.2%, 60.0%, respectively. 4. Fibrous dysplasia was entirely shown poorly defined at 87.7%, but ossifying fibroma & periapical cemental dysplasia were shown well outlined at 60.0%, 70.0%, respectively. 5. Cortical thinning and expansion were observed in fibrous dysplasia and ossifying fibroma, and severe in ossifying fibroma than fibrous dysplasia, and those signs were not seen in periapical cemental dysplasia. Loss of lamina dura was dominant in fibrous dysplasia and root resorption was dominant in ossifying fibroma. Displacement of mandibular canal and the degree of the increase of vertical dimension were alike in both lesions. Displacement of maxillary sinus or nasal cavity, thinning & expansion of the maxillary sinus were dominant in fibrous dysplasia. 6. Polyostotic fibrous dysplasia was occurred at 5.9%, Multiple periapical cemental dysplasia at 43.7%. Occurrence rate in the edentulous area of fibrous dysplasia and ossifying fibroma were 7.0%, 8.6%, respectively.
This study analyzed the impressional characteristics and commonality of the seven people who reached the final final in the 2020 TV Chosun Mister Trot contest, which is the result of the success of the entertainer through the impression. The analysis criteria were set by referring to the classic Ma-uisangbeob and the academic papers on Impressionism, and the faces of seven subjects were collected from the Internet and media. The results of the analysis showed that the following common points were found: First, hair was developed on both sides of the forehead rather than the development of the forehead, which is suitable for arts and physical education rather than studying. Second, most of them had eyebrow bones [the brains of the brain] and cartilage inside their ears was protruding, which is a type of success through effort, deciding on their own life. Third, the mouth was large, the lips were straight, and the neck was thick. This also showed the temperament and talent of artistic ability. Fourth, it developed greatly in the corresponding part by age. In conclusion, while the inherently innate features of facial features cannot prove all that is fatalistic, the characteristic elements of certain talents were clearly manifested. And what they were able to gain and be loved in the entertainment industry was the result of their own efforts beyond it. These results have implications that can be used to determine their talents or career paths in simple aspects.

Background: The treatment of zygoma complex fractures is of crucial importance in the field of plastic surgery. However, surgical methods to correct zygoma complex fractures, including the number of fixation sites, differ among operators. Although several studies have compared two-point and three-point fixation, no comparative research has yet been conducted on one-point versus two-point fixation using computed tomography scans of surgical results. Therefore, the present study aimed to address this gap in the literature by comparing surgical results between one-point and two-point fixation procedures. Methods: In this study, we randomly selected patients to undergo surgery using one of two surgical methods. We analyzed patients with unilateral zygoma complex fractures unaccompanied by other fractures according to whether they underwent one-point fixation of the zygomaticomaxillary buttress or two-point fixation of the zygomaticomaxillary buttress and the zygomaticofrontal suture. We then made measurements at three points-the zygomaticofrontal suture, inferior orbital wall, and malar height-using 3-month postoperative computed tomography images and performed statistical analyses to compare the results of the two methods. Results: All three measurements (zygomaticofrontal suture, inferior orbital wall, and malar height) showed significant differences (p< 0.05) between one-point and two-point fixation. Highly significant differences were found for the zygomaticofrontal suture and malar height parameters. The difference in the inferior wall measurements was less meaningful, even though it also reached statistical significance. Conclusion: Using three parameters in a statistical analysis of imaging findings, this study demonstrated significant differences in treatment outcomes according to the number of fixations. The results indicate that bone alignment and continuity can be achieved to a greater extent by two-point fixation instead of one-point fixation.
The form and function of the craniofacial structure critically depend on genetic information. With recent advances in the molecular technology, genes that are important for normal growth and morphogenesis of the craniofacial skeleton are being rapidly uncovered, shaping up modem craniofacial biology. One of them is fibroblast growth factor receptor 2 (FGFR2). Specific point mutations in the. FGFR2 gene have been linked to Apert syndrome, which is characterized by premature closure of cranial sutures and craniofacial anomalies as well as limb deformities. To study pathogenic mechanisms underlying craniosynostosis phenotype of Apert syndrome, we used a transgenic approach; an FGFR2 minigene construct containing an Apert mutation (a point mutation that substitute proline at the position 253 to arginine; P253R) was introduced into fertilized mouse germ cells by DNA microinjection. The injected cells were then allowed to develop into transgenic mice. We used a bone-specific promoter (a DNA fragment from the type I collagen gene) to confine the expression of mutant FGFR2 gene to the bone tissue, and asked whether expression of mutant FGFR2 in bone is sufficient to cause the craniosynostosis phenotype in mice. Initial characterization of these mice shows prematurely closed cranial sutures with facial deformities expected from Apert patients. We also demonstrate that the transgene produces mutant FGFR2 protein with increased functional activities. Having this useful mouse model, we now can ask questions regarding the role of FGFR2 in normal and abnormal development of cranial bones and sutures.
