  • The aim of this study was to determine the minimal inhibitory concentration(MIC) of cefixime, which is a 3rd generation of cefalosporin, against 6 species of putative periodontopathogens; Fusobacterium nucleatum, Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans, Prevotella intermedia, Prevotella nigrescens, Tannerella forsythia and Porphyromonas gingivalis. The efficacy of cefixime was examined by comparing it with that of several antibiotics(amoxicillin, $Augmentin^{(R)}$ ciprofloxacin, metronidazole, and tetracycline), which were used as the control. The MIC was measured using a microdilution method. The MIC of cefixime against the putative periodotopathogens, as a single use regimen, was relatively lower than that of the other antibiotics. The MIC of cefixime/metronidazole against P. intermedia ChDC KB14, P. nigrescens ChDC KB50, F. nucleatum ChDC PV-F37, F. nucleatum ChDC F130, and F. nucleatum ChDC F175, as a simultaneous regimen, was lower than that of the other antibiotics. The concentration of cefixime in the crevicular fluid of volunteers who received 250mg every 12 hours for 3 days was $9{\mu}g/ml$ after 9 hours. In conclusion, cefixime showed good antimicrobial activity in a single treatment or as a combined therapy with amoxicillin, $Augmentin^{(R)}$ or metronidazole against 6 periodontopathogens.

  • The ascomycete fungus Fusarium fujikuroi causes bakanae disease in rice and this disease has been reemerging in Korea. Other fungal species including F. graminearum and Magnaporthe oryzae are often associated with F. fujikuroi, hampering pure isolation of F. fujikuroi from rice. In this study, we modified a selective medium for F. fujikuroi as supplementing both pentachloronitrobenzene and hydrogen peroxide into minimal medium. This medium efficiently suppressed the vegetative growth of F. graminearum and M. oryzae, but did not significantly reduce F. fujikuroi growth, providing an efficient tool for isolating F. fujikuroi.

  • We study the problem of controlling data overhead of mesh-based multicast ad hoc routing protocols by adaptively adding redundancy to the minimal data overhead multicast mesh as required by the network conditions. We show that the computation of the minimal data overhead multicast mesh is NP-complete, and we propose an heuristic approximation algorithm inspired on epidemic algorithms. In addition, we propose a mobility-aware and adaptive mesh construction algorithm based on a probabilistic path selection being able to adapt the reliability of the multicast mesh to the mobility of the network. Our simulation results show that the proposed approach, when implemented into ODMRP, is able to offer similar performance results and a lower average latency while reducing data overhead between 25 to 50% compared to the original ODMRP.

  • The senses that a doctor can feel is limited in MIS(Minimal Invasive Surgery) which guarantees the fast recovery of the patient and minimal incision for going in and out of instruments through the tissue of the patient. In particular, the surgical robotic teleoperation system developed recently serves with only the information of eyesight and auditory sense. Therefore force-reflection is the most demanded element of the senses in manipulating surgical instruments. In this paper, we designed the Master system and the 2 D.O.F grasper for the robotic teleoperation system(Slave) that has two force sensors on the grasper. Particularly, we focused on serve to master's handle with the contact force between tissue and the grasper of Slave.

  • Observing that for any dense weakly Lindelof subspace of a space Y, X is $Z^{#}$ -embedded in Y, we show that for any weakly Lindelof space X, the minimal Cloz-cover ($E_{cc}$(X), $z_{X}$) of X is given by $E_{cc}$(X) = {(\alpha, \chi$) : $\alpha$ is a G(X)-ultrafilter on X with $\chi\in\cap\alpha$}, $z_{X}$=(($\alpha, \chi$))=$\chi$, $z_{X}$ is $Z^{#}$ -irreducible and $E_{cc}$(X) is a dense subspace of $E_{cc}$($\beta$X).

  • The authors investigate f-biharmonic maps u : (M, g) ${\rightarrow}$ (N, h) from a Riemannian manifold into a Riemannian manifold with non-positive sectional curvature, and derive that if $\int_{M}f^p{\mid}{\tau}(u){\mid}^pdv_g$ < ${\infty}$, $\int_{M}{\mid}{\tau}(u){\mid}^2dv_g$ < ${\infty}$ and $\int_{M}{\mid}du{\mid}^2dv_g$ < ${\infty}$, then u is harmonic. When u is an isometric immersion, the authors also get that if u satisfies some integral conditions, then it is minimal. These results give an affirmative partial answer to conjecture 4 (generalized Chen's conjecture for f-biharmonic submanifolds).

  • This descriptive-correlational study was conducted to recognize the relational between the Perceived social support and stress in pregnant women. The subject were comprised of 154 patients who were at 24 weeks over, and data were collected by way of questionnairs at K-university hospital in Seoul during 23 days (November 21, 1986 to December 13, 1986). The result of this study may be summerized as follows. 1) The degrees of the support from situation perceived by pregnant women were: the minimal 20 feints, the maximal 61 points and the mean 40.42 feints. 2) The degrees of stress perceived by pregnant women were: the minimal 32 points, the maximal 109 points and the mean 65.49 points. 3) The results of hypotheses were: the first hypothesis was not supported that the higher the degree of social support from situation perceived by pregnant women, the lower that of stress(r= -0.01129, p=0.8895) the second was supported that the higher the degree if support perceived indirectly by pregnant women, the lower that of stress(r= -0.23832, p=0.0029). the third was supported that the higher the degree of support perceived directly by pregnant women, the lower that of stress. (r= -0.36019, p=0.0001) 4) The fourth shows that in the relationships between the characteristics of socio-popualtion and obstetrics and the degree of social support, there was significant difference; i) the support from situation differs in learning (t= -2.178, p<.05), and satisfaction of marriage (F=5.06, p<.01) ii) the support perceived indirectly differs in learning (t= -3.065, p<.01), month of pregnant(F= 2.78, p <.05), satisfaction of marriage (F=20.08, p<.001) and forms of family (t=2.11, p<.05) iii) the support perceived directly differs in satisfaction of marriage (F=21.00, p <.001) and forms of family (t=2.11, p<.05) 5) the fifth shows that in the relationship between the characteristics of sociopopulation and obstetrics and stress, the degree of satisfaction of marriage only shows the significant statistical difference(F= 0.40, p<.01) 6) The sixth shows that the factor affecting the stress of pregnant women was the support perceived directly and its explanatory power was 12.9%.

  • We show that if X is a space such that ${\beta}QF(X)=QF({\beta}X)$ and each stable $Z(X)^{\sharp}$-ultrafilter has the countable intersection property, then there is a homeomorphism $h_X:vQF(X){\rightarrow}QF(vX)$ with $r_X={\Phi}_{vX}{\circ}h_X$. Moreover, if ${\beta}QF(X)=QF({\beta}X)$ and $vE(X)=E(vX)$ or $v{\Lambda}(X)={\Lambda}(vX)$, then $vQF(X)=QF(vX)$.

  • The maintenance of good oral health in adults is often hindered by oral malodor and periodontal diseases which are known to be commonly caused by some species of Gram-negative anaerobic bacteria, with low sensitivity to common synthetic antibiotics or antibacterial chemical agents. Therefore the development of a nonharmful natural antibacterial oral rinsing remedy against the causative bacteria is thought to be very important. The purpose of this study is to obtain the basic data for development of a nonharmful natural antibacterial oral rinsing remedy using colloidal silver. The author applied colloidal silver solution with concentration of 10, 30, 50, 80 ppm to some strains in species of Prevotella intermedia, Porphyromonas gingivalis, Fusobaterium nucleatum, and evaluated the effects of colloidal silver on the growth of experimental bacterial strains in aspects of minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC), minimal bactericidal concentration (MBC) and growth pattern after incubation for 24, 48, 72 hours. The obtained results were as follows: MIC of colloidal silver solution against experimental strains was 30 ppm in P. intermedia, 10 or 30 ppm in P. gingivalis, and 30, 50, or 80 ppm in F. nucleatum. And MBC of colloidal silver solution against experimental strains was 30 ppm in P. intermedia, 30 or 50 ppm in P. gingivalis, 30 or 80 ppm in F. nucleatum. Therefore it was concluded that colloidal silver exhibited bacteriostatic or/and bacteriocidal effects against some experimental strain. And the inhibition of growth of experimental strains were markedly or considerably exhibited under 30 ppm$\sim$50 ppm of colloidal silver solution for 48 hours$\sim$72 hours in P. intermedia, 10 ppm$\sim$30 ppm for 24 hours$\sim$48 hours in P. gingivalis, 30 ppm for 24 hours in F. nucleatum. These results indicate that the colloidal silver inhibited effectively the growth of some species of Gram-negative anaerobic bacteria by exhibition of bacteriostatic or/and bacteriocidal effects, and can be used as a possible major ingredient of the nonharmful natural antibacterial oral rinsing remedy to oral malodor and periodontal diseases.
