Ultraviolet rays, which have wavelengths smaller than 400 nm, are very harmful to the eyes. Recently, high-energy visible light was also revealed to be harmful to retinal cells. Therefore, polymer eyeglass lenses that can block UV and high-energy visible light are needed for eye health. In this study, high-refractive-index polymer eyeglass lens, n=1.67, were manufactured using the injection-mold method with the m-xylene diisocyanate monomer, 2,3-bis((2-mercaptoethyl)thio)-1-propanethiol monomer, benzotriazole UV absorber, release of alkyl phosphoric ester, dye mixture of CI solvent violet 13, and catalyst of dibutyltin dichloride mixture. A multi-layer anti-reflection coating was applied to manufactured polymer eyeglass lenses for both sides using an E-beam evaporation system. The optical properties of the manufactured lenses with the UV and high-energy visible light-blocking function were analyzed by UV-visible spectrophotometry. As a result, the polymer eyeglass lens with a UV absorber of 0.5 wt. % blocked 99% of UV and high-energy visible light shorter than 411 nm. The average transmittance of the polymer eyeglass lens with a UV absorber of 0.5wt.% was 97.9% in the range of 460 ~ 660 nm for photopic eye sensitivity higher than 10%. Therefore, clear image acquisition in photopic vision is possible.
This study attempts to identify the self-image of eyeglass wearers with Q-methodology. Preliminary Q-statements were collected through personal and telephone interviews and based in consultation with reference books, eyeglass wearers, an optician and an oculist. Finally, 34 Q-samples were seleted. The results were analyzed by a Q-factor with a PC QUANL Program. The self-image of eyeglass wearers were found to revolve around three types: Type 1. They feel that eyeglasses have a negative influence on image and that they uncomfortable. In addition, other people have a negative bias toward people who wear eyeglasses. As a result of these negative prejudices and inconveniences, there is a tendency to wear contact lens or have laser operations. Type 2. They feel less uncomfortable comparatively, when explained that glasses can help improve their image. When explained as a fashion accessory, negative prejudices almost disappeared. Type 3. They show a positive reaction when explained that spectacles are also used for sight protection. Howerer, they are sensitive to changes in their complexion as a result of eyeglass wear and place much importance in the design of glass frames. The significance of this study is to suggest basic data for a mediation device that improve the image of eyeglass wearers discovery and analysis of these three types.

This study was investigated to find the proper UV-A blocking percentage that could protect the denaturation of catalase and superoxide dismutase (SOD), antioxidative enzymes in eye, induced by UV-A. Catalase or SOD were irradiated at 365 nm for 1, 3, 6, 24, 96 hr and the extent of denaturation was evalutated by polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. Furthermore, it was investigated whether blocking of UV-A by 20, 50, 80 and 99% eyeglass lens could protect the denaturation of catalase and SOD or not. Catalase became to denature when catalase were irradiated by UV-A for more than 3 hours. However, the denaturation of SOD was induced by more than 6 hours irradiation. The denaturation of catalase induced by irradiation for 3 hr could be perfectly protected by 99% UV-A blocking lens. But, when the irradiation time became longer than 3 hr or the blocking percentage of lens were lower than 99%, the denaturation of catalase was not perfectly protected but partially protected. Although 50% UV-A blocking lens had partial protecting effects, lenses having 80 or 99% UV-A blocking effect could perfectly prevent the denaturation of SOD induced by 96 hr irradiation.

The aim of this study was to find the proper UV-A blocking percentage that could protect the denaturation of ribonuclease A (RNase A), one of protein enzymes in eye, induced by UV-A. RNase A was irradiated at 365 nm for 1, 3, 6, 24, 48, 72, 96 hr and the extent of denaturation was monitored by polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. Furthermore, it was investigated whether blocking of UV-A by 20, 50, 80 and 99% eyeglass lens could protect the denaturation of RNase A or not. The denaturation of RNase A was induced by only 1 hr UV-A irradiation and the extent of denaturation became severe depending on UV-A irradiation time. The mild denaturation of RNase A induced by irradiation for 1 hr could be sufficiently protected by 20% UV-A blocking lens. When RNase A was irradiated for 3 hr, more that 50% blocking of UV-A needed to prevent the denaturation. Even though 99% UV-A blocking lens was used, the denaturation of RNase A induced by 6 hr irradiation could not be prevented perfectly. However, 99% UV-A blocking lens could dramatically decrease the severe denaturation of RNase A induced by irradiation for 96 hr.

Purpose: The present study was conducted to investigate whether certain repeated physical and/or chemical stimuli added on ophthalmic lenses might induce any changes of the functions of lens coatings. Methods: The changes in lens surface, light transmittance, foggy duration, durability of ophthalmic lenses were determined after the application of tearing-off with tape, rubbing with acetone, soaking in acetone or distilled water of ophthalmic lens (CR-39 material) as physical and/or chemical stimuli. Results: The change of ophthalmic lens surface was detected after soaking in acetone for longer than 30 minutes by observing the lens surface to figure out the functional change of hard coating. The ophthalmic lens soaked in distilled water for 180 minutes showed little functional change of anti-reflection coating as 1% by measuring light transmittance of lens. However, the function of anti-reflection coating was almost disappeared after the ophthalmic lens was soaked in acetone for 60 minutes. The foggy duration of ophthalmic lens soaked in acetone was increased by estimating foggy duration of lens. The lens coating was shown to be defected when the pre-damaged ophthalmic lenses were torn off with tape, rubbed with acetone and soaked in distilled water or acetone by observing pre-damaged lens surface to evaluate its durability. Conclusions: The careful management during ophthalmic lens dispensing or usual eyeglass wearing is needed since the change in ophthalmic lens coatings was shown by repeated physical and/or chemical stimuli.
The human eye and skin is exposed daily to solar energy. Expecially, the ultraviolet radiation (UVR) exposure has been damaged as an important causative factor in corneal disease. These damage of cornea was effected the retina. Therefore the eye function was effected very significant damage. As a results the protect of UVR in the eye is very important in ocular health. Therefore in living the intensive ultraviolet radiation environment by solar energy, human eye have protected the cornea and eyeball by the UV-blocking sunglass, eyeglass, goggles, and contact lens. Finally the specific UV-blocker lens devices available to the primary care for the subjects by optician. Of course, in the future these specific lenses have to development and study by fellowship.

Purpose : To investigate a disposal method of disposing contact lenses and the recognition of environmental pollution by micro plastics which may be caused by the wrong disposal method of domestic contact lens wearers. Methods : Two hundred sixty one adults(124 males, 137 females, mean age $21.48{\pm}3.14years$) were participated in this study. They were given the questionnaire survey on contact lenses purchasing place, type of contact lenses, duration of wearing contact lenses, the disposal method of disposing contact lenses and the recognition of the occurrence of environmental pollution. Results : It appeared that eyeglass shop(50.0%) and contact lens shop(48.3%) were the main purchasing places, and the most common type of contact lenses were disposable lenses(38.5%) and daily wearing lenses(52.5%). On the duration of wearing contact lenses they answered more than 5 years(29.3%), less than 1 year (26.0%), less than 1 year to less than 3 years (26.0%), and on wearing a contact lens during a week they did 1-2 days (32.0%), 1 week (28.0%), 5-6 days (22.4%) and 3-4 days (17.6%). It was shown "no(78.3%)" and "yes(21.7%)" to the questionnaire of whether they received information or education about a disposal method at the place where the contact lens was purchased, and "no(87.5%)" and "yes(12.5%)" to the questionnaire of whether they received information or education from schools, public institutions or public media such as the internet. As for the disposal methods, landfill waste(45.6%), recycled garbage(29.6%), and drainage(16.8%) from the sink or toilet responded in order. Although men were more educated and informed about disposal than women (t=3.63189, p<0.00001), women were more aware of environmental pollution(t=2.44269, p=0.01605). Conclusion : In order to reduce the environmental pollution issue caused by the contact lens which does not decompose at the sewage treatment facility and become micro plastics, it is urgent to provide information about correct disposal methods after using contact lenses and to educate contact lens wearers.
Purpose: To analyze thermal effect on mechanical properties of domestic commercial polymer-based eyewear frames. Methods: In this study, materials of cellulose acetate, polyamide, epoxy, and polyetherimide were exposed to high or low temperature and were mounted on universal test machine (TO-100-IC) for tensile strength test. Elastic behavior, Young's modulus, maximum displacement, and fatigue were tested with various temperature ($-25^{\circ}C$, $25^{\circ}C$, $60^{\circ}C$). Results: As a result, at room temperature, displacements of materials were changed with increasing impact load. At low temperature ($-25^{\circ}C$), maximum displacements of all specimens were decreased but young's modulus were increased. However, at high temperature, maximum displacements of all specimens were increased but young's modulus were decreased. Conclusions: Degree of displacements due to fatigue behavior was increased following direction of PEI, epoxy, polyamide, acetate. We concluded that commercial polymers used in eyewear frames physical properties were changed differently to exposed temperature.
