This paper presented a method of extracting shape information from a clipart image and then measured the similarity between clipart images using the extracted shape information. The results indicated that the outlines of the extracted clipart images were clearer that those of the original images. Previous methods of extracting shape information could be classified into outline-based methods and region-based methods. Included in the former category, the proposed method expressed the convex and concave aspects of an outline using the ratio of a rectangle. Accordingly, the proposed method was superior in expressing shape information than previous outline-based feature methods.
In order to choose the manufacturing method for extracting alginates from sea tangle, Laminaria japonica, three methods were applied. In Method I, alginates were extracted with NaOH solution from sea tangle powder and extracted alginates were precipitated and converted to alginic acid by $CaCl_2$ and HCI solution. Then alginic acid was converted to sodium alginates with $Na_2CO_3$ solution. Sodium alginates were precipitated with methyl alcohol and were resolved with hot water and this step was repeated three times. Method II was same to Method I except final step including that sodium alginates were precipitated and washed with methyl alcohol three times. Method III included that sodium alginates were extracted with $Na_2CO_3$ solution from sea tangle powder then sodium alginates were precipitated and washed with methyl alcohol three time. Extracting time increased with Increasing extracted alginates amounts but increasing rates were below $0.4\%/h.$ Alginates amounts recovered by Method III showed above 2 times more to those by Method I and II. Extracting time increased with increasing ash amount of sodium alginates but increasing rates were below $0.1\%/h.$ and that of sodium alginates extracted by Method III showed higher value $(5\%)$ than those by Method I and II. In the sodium alginates prepared by Method III, the amount of ash in alginates dried by air was $34.4\%,$ that by vacuum freeze drying was $47.8\%.$ Extracting time increased with decreasing average molecular weight (MW) and degree of polymerization (DP) of sodium alginates, MW and DP of alginates prepared by Method III were higher than those by Method I and II In same extracting time. Extracting time increased with decreasing rate of apparent viscosity change (SAV) of alginates solution, and SAV of alginates prepared by Method III showed higher value than those by Method I and II in same extracting time. SAV of alginates dried by air was higher than that by vacuum freeze drying. Relating equation among SAV MW and DP were MW = 60.066 (SAV) -93.950, DP =309.760 (SAV) -485.084 and MW = 0.914 (DP)+0.213.
Dissolution properties for the 6 inorganic pollutants (As, Cd, Cu, Pb, Zn, Cr) in soils have been studied. These 6 inorganic pollutants were spiked to 3 kinds of fresh soils which were sand, clay, and loam. The dissolution properties of the prepared samples were investigated under the various extracting conditions such as extracting time, acid concentration, particle size, etc. in order to obtain basic information about the process of extraction test and improvement of related analytical methods. As the results, dissolution properties were affected mainly by acid concentration in extracting procedure and mineral composition of soils. On the other hand, extracting time, sort of acids and particle size of soils had a little influence on the dissolution properties. Cd revealed very high dissolving efficiency and As was very low in whole extracting test.

Predicting the destination of a protein in a cell gives valuable information for annotating the function of the protein. Recent technological breakthroughs have led us to develop more accurate methods for predicting the subcellular localization of proteins. The most important factor in determining the accuracy of these methods, is a way of extracting useful features from protein sequences. We propose a new method for extracting appropriate features only from the sequence data by computing pairwise sequence alignment scores. As a classifier, support vector machine (SVM) is used. The overall prediction accuracy evaluated by the jackknife validation technique reach 94.70% for the eukaryotic non-plant data set and 92.10% for the eukaryotic plant data set, which show the highest prediction accuracy among methods reported so far with such data sets. Our numerical experimental results confirm that our feature extraction method based on pairwise sequence alignment, is useful for this classification problem.
Most researches of transforming sequential programs into parallel programs have been based on the loop structure transformation method. However, most programs have implicit interprocedure parallelism. This paper suggests a way of extracting parallelism from the loops with procedure calls using the data dependency elimination method. Most parallelization of the loop with procedure calls have been conducted for extracting parallelism from the uniform code. In this paper, we propose interprocedural transformation, which can be apply to both uniform and nonuniform code. We show the examples of uniform, nonuniform, and complex code parallelization. We then evaluated the performance of the various transformation methods using the CRAY-T3E system. The comparison results show that the proposed algorithm out-performs other conventional methods.
In order to utilize the Koryangju distillers' grain for the acetic acid fermentation, the extracting methods and effects of the extracts on the fermentations were investigated. The result obtained are as follows. 1. Cold extracting method by which the distillers grain is extracted with 3 times of water for 60 hours at room temperature was better than hot extracting method in terms of the fermentation rate and the quality of vinegar product. 2. Optimum conditions and some results of surface fermentation based on the medium added by the extracts are as follows, optimum amount of the extracts to be added to the medium is 20-30% of total media; acetic acid production rate at log phase was 0.16g/100$m\ell$, hr.; recovery was 91.17%; and the time of 40 hours was required for the completion of fermentation. 3. Organoleptic quality of the vinegar which is produced by adding the extracts was superior to two commercial products examined.
There have been many studies of automatic term recognition (ATR) and they have achieved good results. However, there are scopes to improve the performance of extracting terms still further by using the additional technical dictionaries. This paper focuses on the method for extracting terms using the hierarchy among technical dictionaries. Moreover, a statistical method based on frequencies, foreign words, and nested relations assists extracting terms which do not appear in dictionaries. Our method produces relatively good results for this task.
Recently in the field of model checking, to overcome the state explosion problem, the method of using a SAT-solver is mainly researched. To use a SAT-solver, the system to be verified is translated into CNF and the Boolean cardinality constraint is widely used in translating the system into CNF. In BCC it is dealt with set of boolean variables, but there is no translating method of the sequence among Boolean variables. In this paper, we propose methods for translating the problem, which is extracting a subsequence with length k from a sequence of Boolean variables, into CNF formulas. Through experimental results, we show that our method is more efficient than using only BCC.

Extracting key visual information from images containing natural scene is a challenging task and an important step for the visually impaired to recognize information based on tactile graphics. In this study, a novel method is proposed for extracting salient regions based on global contrast enhancement and saliency cuts in order to improve the process of recognizing images for the visually impaired. To accomplish this, an image enhancement technique is applied to natural scene images, and a saliency map is acquired to measure the color contrast of homogeneous regions against other areas of the image. The saliency maps also help automatic salient region extraction, referred to as saliency cuts, and assist in obtaining a binary mask of high quality. Finally, outer boundaries and inner edges are detected in images with natural scene to identify edges that are visually significant. Experimental results indicate that the method we propose in this paper extracts salient objects effectively and achieves remarkable performance compared to conventional methods. Our method offers benefits in extracting salient objects and generating simple but important edges from images containing natural scene and for providing information to the visually impaired.

Objectives : This study was performed to investigate the analgesic effect of Styrax japonica pharmacopuncture on formalin induced pain in rats and to figure out efficient extraction method. Methods : The subjects were divided into 5 groups ; normal group(treated with normal saline at KI03, and injected normal saline at right hindpaw after 35 minutes), control group(treated with normal saline at KI03, and injected with formalin at right hindpaw after 35 minutes), water group(treated by hot water extraction pharmacopuncture at KI03, and injected with formalin at right hindpaw after 35 minutes), ethanol group(treated with ethanol extraction pharmacopuncture at KI03, and injected with formalin at right hindpaw after 35 minutes), and ultrasound group(treated with ultrasound extraction pharmacacupuncture and injected with fromalin formalin at right hindpaw after 35 minutes). We conducted a formalin test with ultrasonic vocalization( USV), and after the test checked for substance P, Aspartate aminotransferase(AST), and Alanine aminotransferase(ALT) concentration in the blood for each of the groups. Results : There was a significant analgesic effect of Styrax japonica pharmacopuncture in the early phase of the formalin test, and pharmacopuncture made with an ultrasound extracting method was observed to have a better analgesic effect than other extracting methods in early phases. The substance P concentration decreased significantly in the Styrax japonica pharmacopuncture treated group and no difference was found in the AST and ALT concentration of each group. Conclusion : These results demonstrated that Styrax japonica pharmacopuncture had analgesic effects in noxious nociceptors stimulation. Also pharmacopuncture made with an ultrasound extracting method had a better analgesic effect than others.
