  • In this paper, the effect of the gap in the ground plane on the electromagnetic interference (EMI) is analyzed quantitatively. Because of a lot of advantages compared to other numerical techniques, the FDTD (finite difference time domain) is applied to the EMI effect modeling. The analyzed model is the simplified PCB (printed circuit board) which has a microstrip and ground plane. The inductance induced by the gap is modeled and calculated by gridding the whole PCB based on the FDTD algorithm. When external cables are attached to the PCB, the common-mode current is induced along the attached cable and the resulting electric field strength is calculated and presented along with the FCC and CISPR EMI limits. The results show that the radiated field strength highly depends on the size of the ground plane gap. The numerical simulation results can be used as a reference in the practical PCB design with the ground plane gap.

  • TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System) is a safety assistant system to prevent the serious accident due to the damaged tire by the abnormal tire pressure. It is designed to transmit the measured data for pressure and temperature of tires from the sensor unit installed in each tire to signal processing unit installed in a vehicle. Based on the received information, a driver monitors the condition of tires using a display device, to maintain the optimum travelling condition. Since TPMS should employ the wireless communication technique, it may suffer from various interferences from external electrical or electronics devices. In order to suppress them, the beamforming techniques such as switching, minimum-variance distortionless-response (MVDR), and generalized sidelobe canceler (GSC) have been considered for TPMS. In this paper, we calculate computational complexities of three beamformers and suggest mathematical basis to compare their performance of the complexity.

  • Multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) technology provides high data rate and enhanced quality of service for wireless communications. Since the benefits from MIMO result in a heavy computational load in detectors, the design of low-complexity suboptimum receivers is currently an active area of research. Lattice-reduction-aided detection (LRAD) has been shown to be an effective low-complexity method with near-maximum-likelihood performance. In this paper, we advocate the use of systolic array architectures for MIMO receivers, and in particular we exhibit one of them based on LRAD. The "Lenstra-Lenstra-Lov$\acute{a}$sz (LLL) lattice reduction algorithm" and the ensuing linear detections or successive spatial-interference cancellations can be located in the same array, which is considerably hardware-efficient. Since the conventional form of the LLL algorithm is not immediately suitable for parallel processing, two modified LLL algorithms are considered here for the systolic array. LLL algorithm with full-size reduction-LLL is one of the versions more suitable for parallel processing. Another variant is the all-swap lattice-reduction (ASLR) algorithm for complex-valued lattices, which processes all lattice basis vectors simultaneously within one iteration. Our novel systolic array can operate both algorithms with different external logic controls. In order to simplify the systolic array design, we replace the Lov$\acute{a}$sz condition in the definition of LLL-reduced lattice with the looser Siegel condition. Simulation results show that for LR-aided linear detections, the bit-error-rate performance is still maintained with this relaxation. Comparisons between the two algorithms in terms of bit-error-rate performance, and average field-programmable gate array processing time in the systolic array are made, which shows that ASLR is a better choice for a systolic architecture, especially for systems with a large number of antennas.

  • Records of accidents for buried pipeline across the river were gathered and causes were analysed. The results are intended to be utilized as basic data for determining a reasonable criteria for the depth of buried city gas pipeline crossing the river. Accident of river-crossing buried pipeline was mainly caused by flood. Sometimes corrosion was detected at the failed location of the pipe. In order to determine reasonable and efficient depth of burial of the pipeline, hydraulic evaluation of the river and structural analysis of the pipeline are necessary. Published data for the buried natural gas pipeline incidents were also investigated and summarized. Main causes of buried natural gas pipeline incidents were external interference and corrosion. However, the two main causes of incidents showed significant difference in the proportion of the entire incident, depending on burial environment.

  • Programmers can be got the test-related information for implementation without interference of source code complexity by use of the formal specification. Especially the external inputs and system responses can be represented precisely by formal specification in testing phase of web-based software systems. This paper suggests a method of extracting test cases by use of formal specification. Object-Z formal specification represents various test-related information for complex functions of web-based applications. State Transition Models could be built from the formal specification so that test scenarios were extracted from STDs from the highest level to detail levels. The target system for verification of this method is a web-based banking system which is necessary to be secured and critical on errors. This method would be an important factor in automatizing test procedure for web-based application software systems combining the user-base test technique.

  • Interference effects are of considerable concern for group hyperboloidal cooling towers, but evaluation methods and results are different from each other because of the insufficient understanding on the structure behavior. Therefore, the mechanical performance of hyperboloidal cooling tower shell under wind loads was illustrated according to some basic properties drawn from horizontal rings and cantilever beams. The hyperboloidal cooling tower shell can be regarded as the coupling of horizontal rings and meridian cantilever beams, and this perception is beneficial for understanding the mechanical performance under wind loads. Afterwards, the mean external latitude wind pressure distribution, CP(${\theta}$), was artificially adjusted to pursue the relationship between different CP(${\theta}$) and wind-induced responses. It was found that the maximum responses in hyperboloidal cooling tower shell are primarily dominated by the non-uniformity of CP(${\theta}$) but not the local pressure amplitude CP or overall resistance/drag coefficient CD. In all the internal forces, the maximum amplitude of meridian axial tension shows remarkable sensitivity to the variation of CP(${\theta}$) and it's also the controlling force in structure design, so it was selected as an indicator to evaluate the influence of CP(${\theta}$) on responses. Based on its sensitivity to different adjustment parameters of CP(${\theta}$), an comprehensive response influence factor, RIF, was deduced to assess the meridian axial tension for arbitrary CP(${\theta}$).

  • Placenta specific 8 (PLAC8, also known as ONZIN) is a multi-functional protein that is highly expressed in the intestine, lung, spleen, and innate immune cells, and is involved in various diseases, including cancers, obesity, and innate immune deficiency. Here, we generated a Plac8 knockout mouse using the CRISPR/Cas9 system. The Cas9 mRNA and two single guide RNAs targeting a region near the translation start codon at Plac8 exon 2 were microinjected into mouse zygotes. This successfully eliminated the conventional translation start site, as confirmed by Sanger sequencing and PCR genotyping analysis. Unlike the previous Plac8 deficient models displaying increased adipose tissue and body weights, our male Plac8 knockout mice showed rather lower body weight than sex-matched littermate controls, though the only difference between these two mouse models is genetic context. Differently from the previously constructed embryonic stem cell-derived Plac8 knockout mouse that contains a neomycin resistance cassette, this knockout mouse model is free from a negative selection marker or other external insertions, which will be useful in future studies aimed at elucidating the multi-functional and physiological roles of PLAC8 in various diseases, without interference from exogenous foreign DNA.

  • In this paper, in order to minimize limitations such as signal interference and positioning errors in existing indoor positioning systems, a smart LED-based positioning system for excellent line-of-sight radio environments and precise location tracking is proposed to improve accuracy. An IEEE 802.4 Zigbee module is mounted on the SMPS board of a smart LED; RSSI and LQI signals are received from a moving tag, and the system is configured to transmit the measured data to the positioning server through a gateway. For the experiment, the necessary hardware, such as the gateway and the smart LED module, were separately designed, and the experiment was conducted after configuring the system in an external field office. The positioning error was within 70cm as a result of performing complex calculations in the positioning server after transmitting a vector value of the moving object obtained from the direction sensor, together with a signal from the moving object received by the smart LED. The result is a significantly improved positioning error, compared to an existing short-range wireless communications-based system, and shows the level at which commercial products can be implemented.

  • This paper relates with the Hybrid-DSE-MMA (Hybrid-Dithered Signed Error-MMA) that is possible to improving the equalization performance by using the adaptive modulus and adaptive stepsize in DSE-MMA adaptive equalizer. The DSE-MMA possible to improve the robustness performance to external noise of SE-MMA by using the sign after adding the dither signal for get the error signal in order to update the tap coefficient. But it has a drawback of performance degradation in convergence speed and residual isi by using the fixed modulus and fixed stepsize. In this paper, it was confirmed that this equalization performance degradation was improved by applying the adaptive modulus and stepsize in DSE-MMA propotional to the output power of equalizer by computer simulation. In order to compare the improved equalization performance to currently DSE-MMA, the recovered signal constellation that is the output of the equalizer, residual isi, Maximum Distortion, MSE and the SER were used as a performance index. As a result of computer simulation, the Hybrid-DSE-MMA improve the equalization performance in every index, but gives slower convergence speed compared to DSE-MMA.
