Prairie style houses in first stages of Frank Lloyd Wright's architecture activity pay a leading role in the process of house modernization as reflecting social and economic circumstances of the time based on traditional house style of the States. Wright's first work after retiring from L. Sullivan's office, Winslow house in 1983 is pioneering work predicting prairie house. This is because this house has only one modern architecture language of Wright and follow no style prevailing of the time. So, a researcher analyse Winslow house within the framework of functional thinking and new formative value creation in the modernization process of western house. Through this, The goal of this study is to find out modern characteristics and the meaning of Winslow house in modernization process prior to the 1900s. Firstly, the followings are modern characteristics of Winslow house. First, Winslow house has original planning breaking from custom based on modern functional and reasonable thoughts, and has practical space reflecting resident's inner demand. Second, Winslow house has modern new plastic value through original exterior breaking from custom and integrated shape of inner-outer space and structure. Secondly, the followings are the meaning of Winslow house in modernization process prior to the 1900s. First, Wright intend to suggest directions of residence modernization through Winslow house before designing Prairie style houses in earnest. Second, mixing of modern vocabulary and eclecticism show a sign of residence modernization process on the time. Third, inner-outer flowing space, opening space concept of Winslow house has innovative meanings predicting spacial characteristics of modern architecture.
A number of experimental studies have been carried out in order to clarify the question as to how temporomandibular joint adapt to the changes of mandibular movement and occlusal equilibration. Recently, the studies on the interrelations between anatomical structure of temporomandibular joint and the state of occlusion have been actively performed in dentistry particularly in prosthodontic field. Author performed extraction of unilateral mandibular molars in 30 mature male rats, and observed histological changes of temporomandibular joint through the light microscope. Following results were obtained. 1. The loss of unilateral teeth gave rise to the changes in the location of condylar head, that is, interior displacement of condylar head in the extraction side and upper displacement in the non-extraction side. 2. Articular disk was compressed by the interior surface of condylar head, resulting in its extension below the condylar neck in the extraction side, and the histological arrangement of the compressed area showed irregular feature. 3. The extension of articular disk below the condylar neck was accompanied with the contraction of muscle fibers which were originated from the articular disk. 4. The cartilage layer of articular fossa to the exterior of the extraction side showed hypertropy. 5. Early in the experiment, the inernal extremity of condylar head of extract ion side showed bone resorption, and cartilage layer of condylar head showed hypertropy. At 12 weeks after experiment, the condylar surface showed flattened, and the cartilage layer of condylar head was replaced by the compact bone. 6. The articular disk showed the formation of pannus in the extraction side as well as in the non-extraction side. 7. The occlusal disturbance due to unilateral missing teeth has brought about the non-inflammatory retrogressive change and osteoarthrotic change late in the experiment.
The purpose of this study was to examine needs of residents on the storage according to unit size in apartment. In order to achieve our goal, the questionnaire survey was used. We sampled the questionnaire surveys of 250 households in Seoul whose apartment sizes had been more than 20 pyung. The data collected by the questionnaire survey was analyzed by examining the frequency, percentage on the SPSS/PC+. The results of the study were obtained as follows: 1) In research on the actual storage condition, Residents tended to feel constraint on the storage of the season goods and the storage satisfaction on the service area was found lowest. Therefore, there needed to design the balcony more efficiently for the storage and the interior storage for the season goods. 2) In research on consciousness and attitude about the storage, residents tended to keep the goods of no use and prefered to arrange neatly rather than use conveniently. Therefore, there needed more efficient space in the balcony for the storage of the goods of no use and the closed furniture rather than the open furniture was suited for arrangement. 3) In research on the storage needs, needs for the built-in furniture in all apartment sizes showed highly and residents wanted a space for the exclusive use of the storage. In a solution, it was proposed to equip with the interior storage and the exterior cooperative storage. In the conclusion, needs of residents on the storage according to apartment size were different little. The small size apartment had the serious storage problems and wanted the efficient space plan for storage.
Egg grading is determined by exterior and interior quality. Among the evaluation methods for the egg quality, a candling method is common to identify eggs with cracked shells and interior defects. But this method is time-consuming and laborious. In addition, practically, it is challenging to detect hairline and micro cracks. In this study, an on-line inspection system based on acoustic resonance frequency analysis was developed to detect hairline cracks on eggshells. A roller conveyor was used to transfer eggs along one lane to the impact position where each of eggs rotated by the roller was excited with an impact device at four different locations on the eggshell equator. The impact device was consisted of a plastic hammer and a rotary solenoid. The acoustic response of the egg to the impact was measured with a small condenser microphone at the same position as the impact device was installed. Two acoustic parameters, correlation coefficient for normalized power spectra and standard deviation of peak resonant frequencies, were used to detect cracked eggs. Intact eggs showed relatively high correlations among the four normalized power spectra and low standard deviations of the four peak resonant frequencies. On the other hand, cracked eggs showed low correlations and high standard deviations as compared to the intact. This method allowed a crack detection rate of 97.6%.
This study performed the quantitative distribution analysis of created voids to an insulator when applying general flame and DC short-circuit current to 2.5 $mm^2$ HIV (600 V Grade Heat-Resistant Polyvinyl Chloride Insulated Wires). The diameter of cross-section of HIV normal product and the radius of conductor were measured to be 3.3 mm and 1.8 mm. The exterior of HIV exposed to general flame showed severe carbonization and its interior exhibited voids created by dechlorination reaction. This study observed the characteristics that, when the shortcircuit current applied for 2 seconds from a DC 12 V lead battery, the conductor and neighboring insulator were melted, causing the insulator adhering to the conductor. On average, 87 voids were created on 10 mm of the HIV. The average diameter of voids was 0.25 mm. In addition, it was found that, when the short-circuit current applied for 4 seconds, the interior of insulator in contact with conductor severely carbonized and showed exfoliation phenomenon. On average, 47 voids were created, with more voids at the bottom. The average diameter of voids was 0.20 mm. When the short-circuit current for 6 seconds, most parts of upper part of conductor was carbonized, 20 voids were created. The average diameter of voids was measured to be 0.24 mm. It could be seen that the created voids received little influence by the type of energy source and the number of created voids was reduced as the energy supply time increased.

Purpose : The energy saving in a residential building (apartment) sector is known as one of the effective solution of energy reduction. In South Korea, the government has recently reinforced regulations associated with the energy performance of buildings. However, there is a lack of research on the methods for the energy performance diagnosis that is used to analyze the wall thermal performance of the existing apartments. Because a reliable diagnosis is necessary to save the building energy, this study analyzed wall thermal performance of an existing apartment in Seoul. Method : This paper applied two methods for analysis of the thermal insulation performance; HFM(Heat Flow Meter) method and ASTR(Air-Surface Temperature Ratio) method. The HFM method is suggested by ISO9869-1 code to measure the thermal performance. The ASTR method is proposed by this study for the simplified In-situ measurement and it uses three temperature data (interior wall surface, interior and exterior air) and the overall heat transfer coefficient. This study conducted the experiment of an existing apartment in Seoul using these methods and analyzed the results. Furthermore, the energy simulation tool of the building was used to suggest retrofit of the building based on the results of measurements. Result : The error rate of HFM method and ASTR method was analyzed in about 17 to 20%. As the results of comparison between the initial design values of the wall and the measured values, the 26% degradation of insulation thermal performance was measured. Lastly, the energy simulation tool of the building shows 10.8% energy savings in accordance with the construction of suggested retrofit.
Townhouse have been developed as alternative housing types for combining the characteristics of detached houses and high-rise apartments, Much research on townhouse have investigated physical environments of townhouse and provide a number of planning factors to be considered. However, these factors do not reflect the residents' experiences of the environments sufficiently. The aim of this research is to investigate residents' satisfactions in townhouse as an exploratory study which can be a basis for the improvement of residential environments in townhouse. First of all, we selected a target townhouse and conducted a field study to examine the existing state of the townhouse. Then a customized questionnaire was developed and distributed to residents in the townhouse for investigating their satisfactions on the residential environment. The questions included are divided into four categories; site environment, unit space, community area and housing management. Through the statistic analyses of the residents' responses, the residents' satisfactions of the residential environment were identified. Especially the residents' satisfaction on the community area, which revitalizes neighborhood relationships, is very high. They were also satisfied with the conditions of the sub-categories, 'a distinctive exterior' 'a private planning', 'outdoors' and 'landscapes', in townhouse. In conclusion, we suggested considerations for the improvement of the residential environments and the quality of life in townhouse.
Experiments of Cone calorimeter test and Lift spread flame apparatus test are carried out in order to appraise fire hazard in color nonwoven used mostly on the spot in construction works. As the result, in color nonwoven combustibility is discovered not firing flame in surface, but firing under state of combustible gas occuring in the state of melting. In the case of Lift spread flame apparatus test, color nonwoven is very brittle which almost no flame spread owing to contracting and break by firing strength. The following data are agree with basis: total heat release is 2.66 MJ/$m^2$, limited combustible material (10 min) of incombustible rating appraisal in interior material of building, and incombustible materials (5 min) 8 MJ/$m^2$ in spite of the above data mentioned, those data are only as basis of interior finish, and so I cannot judge color nonwoven have incombustible rating retain through the above data. Accordingly, the basis of incombustible rating and experiment method about exterior finish must be arranged also.
The purpose of this study is to analyze the correlation between fashion brand image and store space image. To investigate this study further, one of the luxury fashion brands was selected for a case study and surveys were conducted to 200 participants. This study evaluates the factors of fashion brand images that customers associate with a brand before stepping inside the flagship store. Also it analyzes the factors of store space image after the experience of the flagship store. As a result of the correlation analysis based on quantitative statistic measures, the fashion brand image and store space image coincided highest with extraordinary, young and strong characteristics. According to the space elements of the flagship store, the relationship of the brand image with the store image was investigated. As a result of analysis, customers felt the high correlation with the facade among the architectural elements of flagship store. This resulted in that customers consider that the black box of the facade represents originality of this fashion brand as a concept of spatial elements. As a practical implication, companies should understand that the architectural design is a very crucial component in designing the flagship store, as it gives customers their first impression about a brand. The brand image is required to be integrated through the exterior design of the store. The final conclusion of this study shows that the flagship store provides a space where you can experience the corporate value and brand through the space of brand experience and share an emotional image created by the brand as well.
In the 7th century, Sachunwang-sa temple had two extra building-sites behind the Main hall. These two building-sites were found to be in peculiar form different from any another existing stone bases. The stone bases of northern put of these building-sites were decorated to molding as the protruding comers of eaves, which was pierced into a circular hole, and was carved into a form of Gomeck-ii(the stone bases lot supporting the wall). The northern building of sachunwang-sa temple was found to be used as the altar following munduru(文豆婁) method, through the observations of the archives of Samkukyusa(三國遺事) and the Abhiseka stura(skt. 灌頂經). The molding as the protruding cornets of eaves of stone bases was shaped as the roof of a building and the carving of Gomeck-ii gives a proof of the existence of the wall between columns in the altar. The hole of the stone bases protected the wooden cylinder of munduru from the exterior world. The author concludes, through this research, that the altar of Schunwang-sa temple was used lot the religious service during the war for worthship and protecting from the enemies. Also he concludes that these buildings must have been in wooden pagodas constructed upon a square plan, that is with both front and side width equal, haying a quite small scaled and low floored building with its first floor closed on all sides, being different item the usual form.
