  • The purpose of the study is to suggest the measure for the improvement of job satisfaction and level of empowerment of sanatoriums' social workers by analyzing factors of empowerments' effect on the job satisfaction, and investigating level of empowerment and job satisfaction of social workers of sanatoriums for the elderly and the handicapped. The result of investigation and analysis on subjects of 420 social workers of sanatoriums for the elderly and the handicapped in Youngnam area for this is as follows: First, job characteristic that is empowerments' influence factor of sanatoriums' social workers is appeared in order of feedback, and function variety, and in organization characteristic is appeared in order of leadership, reward, and employee development. Second, level of empowerment that is recognized by sanatoriums' social workers is appeared a little higher than normal level and significance is appeared highest, and next are capability, self-determination ability, and influence. Third, features that showed significant difference with significance in general characteristic of sanatoriums' social workers were 'sex', 'marital status', and 'religion', and features that showed significant difference with capability were sex, age, marital status, academic background, and employment history. And features that showed significant difference with self-determination ability were sex, age, marital status, and employment history, and features that showed significant difference with influence were sex, age, employment history and types of facilities. Fourth, the whole average of job satisfaction of sanatoriums' social workers was 3.82 out of 5, which is generally high, features that showed significant difference statistically were age, marital status, academic background, employment history, and types of facilities. Thus, job satisfaction was appeared as high as 'more than age of thirty' in age, 'married' in marital status, 'under graduates of colleges' in academic background, and 'less than three years' in employment history. Fifth, as for factors that had influence on job satisfaction, the indirect effect with empowerment was appeared that had significant effect in organization characteristic, and had few effect in organization features. On these results, practical measures to increase job satisfaction of sanatoriums' social workers are as follows: First, political approach is required to standardize duty system(by various types of facilities and clients' characteristic) of social workers of sanatoriums for elderly and the handicapped, and help to do the role as professionals with giving better treatment and building self-respect by enough reward. Second, to suggest chances to perform the responsibility for the duty of the scenes by the regular supervision, establish regular supervision system of social workers of sanatoriums for the elderly and the handicapped, and the extension of duty to increase the functional varieties. Third, it is required to motivate to have self confidence for the work and to use potential ability with transforming leadership, and to have more chances of education for the self-development. To increase job satisfaction of sanatoriums' social workers who give direct services in sanatoriums for the elderly and the handicapped, more active and positive empowerment's level improvement is in need by improvement of empowerment for them.

  • Background: During movement the major inputs to nervous system come from firstly the muscle and joint to maintain posture and motion and secondly the chemoreceptors and baroreceptors to adjust the cardiovascular and respiratory function. Their complex relationships are generally studied for many years but the direct relation between the joint and respiratory system is not studied thoroughly until now. So this experiment was performed to determine whether the natural movement of knee joint can cause the enhancement of respiratory function by observation of the changes of respiratory rate, phrenic nerve activity and inspiratory neuron activity during the stimulation of knee joint in cat anesthetized with $\alpha$-chloralose. Method: Twenty six male adult cats were used and the extracelluar recording using bipolar platinum electrode and carbon filament electrode was done to record the changes in the activities of phrenic nerve and inspiratory neuron movement of knee joint, injection of chemicals into the joint cavity and electrical stimulation of articular nerve were done. Results: The 60 Hz. could not but 120 Hz. flexion-extension movement of knee joint increased respiratory rate(R.R.), tidal neural activity(TNA) and minute neural activity(MNA). Intra-articular injection of lactate could not increase R.R. but significantly increase TNA and MNA which represented the enhanced respiratory function. Injection of potassium chloride showed similar effects with the case of lactate but the duration of effect was shorter. The electrical stimulation of medial articular nerve with IV strength which could activate only group I and II afferents showed increased TNA and MNA during stimulation but 20 V stimulation which could activate all the afferents increased all the respiratory parameters. The changes of inspiratory neuron activity by knee joint stimulation was similar to that of phrenic nerve. Conclusion: The respiratory center could be directly stimulated by the activation of group I and II articular afferents and it seemed that the magnitude of the respiratory center enhancement is proportional to the amount of sensory information from the knee joint. These facts might suggest that the respiratory function could be enhanced even by the normal movement of knee joint.

  • A bronchus-associated lymphoid tissue(BALT) lymphoma of the lung is a rare disorder of patients with Sj$\ddot{o}$gren's syndrome. A 49-year-old woman was admitted for an evaluation of exertional dyspnea and general weakness which had persisted for two years. The patient had suffered from dry mouth and dry eyes for five years. The physical examinations showed a coarse breath sound with inspiratory crackles on the whole lung field, particularly on the both basal lungs. The laboratory data disclosed high titers of anti-nuclear antibodies, and anti-SSA (Ro), and anti-SSB (La) antibodies. Chest radiographs demonstrated the presence of bilateral, diffuse, reticulonodular densities in both lungs. Thin-section CT scans showed diffusely distributed mosaic pattern of an inhomogeneous attenuation extending over the entire lung zone. The histological findings from an open-lung biopsy specimen revealed an accumulation of lymphoid cells around the bronchioles and an extension of malignant lymphoma cells from the bronchiolar epithelium toward the alveolar space. Immunohistochemically, the neoplastic cells reacted positively to the CD 20 antigen and were focally positive for the UCHL 1 antigen. The histological diagnosis was consistent with a low grade marginal zone B-cell lymphoma originating in the BALT. Here, we present a case of a histologically proven BALT lymphoma of the lung in a patient with primary Sj$\ddot{o}$gren's Syndrome.

  • Mild heat treatment was applied to ginger rhizomes to achieve shelf-life extension for fresh minced ginger. The rhizomes were treated at 45, 50, 55, or $60^{\circ}C$ for different periods of time, minced, and stored at $10^{\circ}C$ for 9 days. Microbial levels in minced fresh ginger decreased with increases in temperature and duration of heat treatment. The non-treated and treated samples did not significantly differ in color at the initial stage of storage. Changes in color were detected after 3 days, and accelerated after that time. The ${\Delta}E$ value of control samples reached 12.42, whereas that of treated samples (except when $45^{\circ}C$ was applied for 60 min) ranged from 7.67 to 10.96, after 9 days. There was no significant difference in initial pH value between control (pH 6.09) and treated (pH 6,046.20) samples. The pH of control samples increased to 8.02 after 9 days, whereas pH values of samples treated at $50^{\circ}C$ and $60^{\circ}C$ ranged from pH 6.807.83 after 9 days. The percentage of control drip was 25.65% at the initial stage of storage, which was lower than those of treated samples. Drip increased to 38.63% in the control and to 34.20~38.44% in treated samples after 9 days. The sensory characteristics of the control samples were similar to those of treated samples at the initial stage of storage. After 6 days, the control and some treated samples developed off-flavors and discoloration. However, samples treated at $50^{\circ}C$ for 60 min retained favorable quality characteristics for 9 days after storage.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the possibility of cultivating tea plants planted in the mountain area of west Gyeongnam province, Korea for 2 years from March 27th, 2001 to July 30th 2003. Ninety each plants collected from 5 different sife were cultivated in nursery cup pot$(\phi\;16cm)$. in the greenhouse condition and transplanted in 5 different location and monitored their survival growing state etc. The results obtained are as follow : 1. Survival rate tea plants after transfer to soil was relatively high Gaya-myeon Hanyang-gun with $90.0\%$ and the lowest in Buksang-meyon Geochang-gun with $80.0\%$. The tea plant collected from Gaya-myeon showed the best growing activity at early stage. 2. For the second year of harvesting time, survival rate was the highest in Machun-myeon Hamyang-gun with $92.2\%$ and the lowest was Buksang-myeon Geochang-gun with $76.7\%$. 3. For the 3rd year of harvesting time, it was impossible to data collection because of the most upper parts of plants were killed by severe freezing weather condition. In the Baekjeon-myeon, Hamyang-gun Buksang-myeon, Ungyang-myeon Geochang-gun, which are severly cold$(below\;-10^{\circ}C)$ in winter season, seems not a suitable places for tea plant cultivation since it is very different to harvest the young loaves in growing season. In conclnsion we could select two sites Gaya-myeon, Hapcheon-gun, Machun-myeon, Hamyang-gun, as tea plant cultivation in the mountain area of west-Gyeongnam province, korea.

  • This study was conducted to evaluate the major agronomic characteristics Korean of 85 and Chinese Jilim Province of 5 local varieties of perilla at Chungbuk Agricultural Research and Extension Services in 2001. Perilla accessions examined were classified into three maturity groups, i.e, early, medium, and late maturity group of $19\;(23\%),\;57\;(67\%)$, and $9\;(10\%)$ accessions, respectively. The early and late maturity groups mainly consisted of collections from middle-northern area and southern area, respectively, while the medium group consisted of accessions from all over the country. But chinese Jilim collection wad all mediumgroup. Average 1,000-seed weight(TSW) was 2.7 g. TSW of the collection from Hamyang was the greatest a 3.9g, while the TSW of Pyungchang collection was the smallest as 1.7g, and most of collections produced medium and small seeds. Perilla accessions with greate 1,000-seed weight seemed to be belonged to the late maturity group. Chinese collection was 2.2 to 3.19g and overage was 2.6g in average. Accodingly TSW hadn't more variegation than Korean. Seed coat colors of gorilla accessions were dark brown$(30\%)$, brown$(55\%)$ and gray brown$(6\%)$, respectively. Among seed coat colors, brown color consisted of $91\%$. Chinese was dark brown$(20\%)$, brown$(80\%)$ in color. Positively correlated that stem height, the number of nodes, branches and flower clusters with Korean and Chinese collection, capsules per flower cluster and the length of flower cluster with Korean collection and 1,000-seed weight and maturing period, flower clusters, stem height and the number of nodes with Chinese collection. And negatively correlated that the number of capsules per flower cluster and 1,000-seed weight with Korean collection and the length of flower cluster, stem height, branches, the number of nodes and flower clusters with Chinese collection.

  • The aim of this study was to evaluate Influence on intra-limb coordination in individuals wearing knee brace during walking. Seven healthy male adults ($32.3{\pm}2.7$ years old, $175.2{\pm}3.8cm$, $76.2{\pm}8.7kg$) participated. They wore knee brace or didn't wear any knee brace and were asked to walk along a 10 m long walkway. Spatiotemporal parameters, angles of the lower limbs, and intra-limb continuous relative phase (CRP) were measured and calculated. No differences of spatiotemporal parameters were shown (all p > 0.05). There were no changes in the angle and its range of motion (ROM) in the hip for the subjects as wearing knee brace, while ROM ($65.5{\pm}3.7^{\circ}$ vs. $60.5{\pm}3.5^{\circ}$, p < 0.05) of the angle and maximum flexion angles (stance: $31.9{\pm}4.6$ vs. $25.6{\pm}5.5$, swing: $76.7{\pm}3.1$ vs. $68.9{\pm}3.4$, all p < 0.05) in the knee significantly decreased. No changes in ROM of angle in the ankle were shown, whereas maximum dorsiflexion decreased ($22.4{\pm}2.6$ vs. $19.2{\pm}2.1$, p < 0.05) and maximum plantarflexion increased ($9.5{\pm}3.0$ vs. $15.7{\pm}2.2$, p<0.05). There were no changes in most of CRP between joints. CRP between the hip and knee joints decreased ($93.0{\pm}7.8$ vs, $84.7{\pm}4.9$, p < 0.05). Most of CRP standard deviation increased (between the hip and ankle joint during swing: $25.1{\pm}6.7$ vs. $32.4{\pm}1.9$, between the knee and ankle joint during stance: $46.0{\pm}12.9$ vs. $80.1{\pm}31.1$, between the knee and ankle joint during swing: $34.5{\pm}4.1$ vs. $37.6{\pm}3.1$, all p < 0.05). These results indicated that wearing knee brace affected joint angle and intra-limb coordination, but less affected gait features.

  • The present study was to investigate the effect of sugars on the psychrophillic spoilage in ground meat. The obtained results were summarized as follows: 1. The minimum pH values for the ground beef containing 2, 5 and 10 % glucose were 5.25, 5.15 and 4.5, respectively. For the ground pork, the respective values were 5.1, 4.45 and 4.1. 2. Total aerobes, coliform, lactic acid bacteria and lactobacillus counts per gram for the control and 2% glucose-contained ground beef after 9 days for storage at $5^{\circ}C$ were $8.3{\times}10^9vs\;6.0{\times}10^7,\;3.5{\times}10^5vs\;2.4{\times}10^3,\;5.8{\times}10^7vs\;4.7{\times}10^6$ and $3.6{\times}10^5vs\;4.2{\times}10^6$ respectively. For the ground pork, the respective values were $1.2{\times}10^{10}vs\;7.8{\times}10^8,\;3.4{\times}10^5vs\;3.1{\times}10^4,\;5.5{\times}10^7vs\;4.5{\times}10^6$ and $3.3{\times}10^5vs\;3.7{\times}10^5$. The glucose-added ground meat showed higher counts than those of the controls only in the case of lactobacillus without any apparent adverse effects. 3. The length of storage time until the depletion of added glucose was 12, 16 and 28 days for the 2, 5 and 10 % glucose contained ground beef and 9, 16 and 30 days for the ground pork, respectively. pH did not start to increase until the added glucose was depleted completely. 4. The addition of glucose extended significantly the average shelf-life of ground beef at refrigeration condition $(5^{\circ}C)$. The extended shelf-life over the control was 7, 9 and 12days for the 2, 5 and 10 % glucose contained ground beef and 8, 10 and 12 days for the respective ground porks. 5. Although the addition of disaccharides (maltose, lactose, saccharose) lowered the pH of ground meat, the extension of shelf-life as seen in glucose treatment was not affected. In fact, the higher the concentration of added disaccharides was, the greater the degree of putrefaction occurred.

  • Forage grasses and legumes ar$\varepsilon$ the mam component of livestock diets in Canada. There are over 30 million ha of grassland in Canada and there is a large, undeveloped land base in fringe areas suitable for forage production. The short growing s season limits the grassland farming to the southern p parts of Canada. The win!er season is long and in most parts of Canada cold temperatures, fr$\varepsilon$ezmg, and thawing, and diseases exert sever$\varepsilon$ stress on overwintering forage plants. The development of persistent cultivars is essential for sustained production particularly in the fringe areas with short growmg s$\varepsilon$ason. The seasonality of dry matter production is a result of high growth rates in early summ$\varepsilon$r and low dry matter accumulation in late summer and fall. Innovative management practIces a and cultivars with improved regrowth capacity are n necessary to overcome such skewed production pattern and to extend effiectlVe grazmg season l Improved pasture production is an important part of reducing costs in livestock operations and remaining competitive. It is suggested that applying available technology would increase pasture productivity and reduce d$\varepsilon$pendence on stored feeds thus improving profitability of small producers in particeular. Reducing nutrient losses during harv$\varepsilon$stmg, s storage, and feeding is essential for improved production efficiency during confinement. The devclopment of low cost and labor saving methods of ensiling is critical for improved efficiency and profitability of forage based enterprises Livestock industries must respond to consumer preferences for low fat and cholesterol foods. Research and development of entire production systems is emphasized for dev$\varepsilon$loping viabl$\varepsilon$ enterprises. It is increasingly difficult to secure resources for r$\varepsilon$search, education, and extension, and alliane$\varepsilon$s and cooperation must expand among organizations with interests in forage based livestock systems.
