  • Measures of exploration and exploitation fall into three categories, patent-based measures, survey-based measures, and press-based measures. Such variety stems from the lack of consensus on definitions of exploration and exploitation. Given a dynamic nature of exploration and exploitation, I suggested how to improve existing press-based measures by suggesting strategies and procedures for constructing valid and reliable press-based measures in a single industry context. I illustrate my arguments through a study of the worldwide optical disk industry.

  • With rapid development of information and communication technologies, open collaboration can be eased through the Internet. Open source software, as a representative area of open collaboration, is developed and adopted to various fields. In this research, based on organizational learning theory, we examine the impacts of exploration and exploitation on innovation performance in open source software development projects. We define knowledge exploration as a number of developers from outside organization and knowledge exploitation as the ratio of member of an organization who participated in an open source software project managed by the organization. For analysis, we collect data of 4794 projects from github which is a representative open source software development platform using Web crawler developed by Python. As a result, we find that excessive exploration has curvilinear (invers U-shape) relationship on project performance. On the other hand, exploitation with enough external developers will positively impact on project performance.

  • Among various types of creativity, team creativity has been always receiving attention from both practitioners and researchers because most of works are done in a team format in organizations. Therefore, it would be the best way for corporate performance to increase when team creativity is managed carefully to increase in a steadfast way. Though there are lots of ways to grow team creativity, this study explores the issue of increasing the team creativity by adopting CMC (computer-mediated communication) and exploration and exploitation, which were studied separately, but never analyzed together in the same research framework. Experiments to prove the validity of the research questions are based on ABM (Agent-Based Modeling) simulation. Netlogo language was adopted to build a prototype engine for the simulation engine. Experiment results revealed that in the short-term, both broad CMC mode with high exploration and exploitation, and local CMC mode with high exploration and exploitation result in higher team creativity than other types of combination. However, in the long run, broad CMC mode yields higher team creativity level than local CMC mode.

  • Forest parks are regarded as one of the scientific ways to keep the forest sustainably developed, meanwhile deliver the benefits to the general public. The development of forest parks in China has experienced simply more than 20 years and both the exploitation and management institutions haven't been set up systematically, which, in reality, reflects as inadequate legislative and policy framework. Without the regulatory guidance and collaborating assistance of environment relating governmental sectors at both national and local levels, it's inevitable that the development of forest parks in the country would face constant problems and conflicts. Therefore, it might be helpful to sort out this conflicts and problems and further more to work out how to solve the barriers. The research in this report started with introducing the IUCN Protected Areas Categories, the overall current situations in China and compared the definition of forest parks in the country and that in international experience. It is to aim to find out the real usufruct rights conflicts during the exploitation and management of forest parks and the method used in this report is field visit, previous investigation, collecting secondary materials, interview, analysis and comparison. The research result in this report couldn't cover all the conflict situations during the forest parks' exploitation and management in China but will provide the analysis of this problem from the legal perspective. Practical application and concerning suggestion will be fully discussed in Part 5 in terms of legislative, social and environmental effects.

  • This study investigated the impact of the latest developments in big data analytics capabilities (BDAC) on firm performance. The BDAC have the power to innovate existing management practices. Nevertheless, their impact on firm performance has not been fully is not yet fully elucidated. The BDAC relates to the flexibility of infrastructure as well as the skills of management and firm's personnel. Most studies have explored the phenomena from a theoretical perspective or based on factors such as organizational characteristics. However, this study extends the flow of previous research by proposing and testing a model which examines whether organizational exploration, exploitation and market agility mediate the relationship between the BDAC and firm performance. The proposed model was tested using survey data collected from the long-term employees over 10 years in 250 companies. The results analyzed through structural equation modeling show that a strong BDAC can help improve firm performance. An organization's ability to analyze big data affects its exploration and exploitation thereby affecting market agility, and, consequently, firm performance. These results also confirm the powerful mediating role of exploration, exploitation, and market agility in improving insights into big data utilization and improving firm performance.

  • Genetic Algorithms face an inherent conflict between exploitation and exploration. Exploitation refers to taking advantage of information already obtained in the search. Exploration show that a pattern in bits coupled with another pattern elsewhere in the string is more effective. In this paper shows that the selection method has a major impact on the balance between exploitation and exploration. A more heavy-handed approach seeks to exploit the available information. If decisions must be made quickly, especially those in real-time trading environments, then quicker convergence through exploitation may be more desirable. Also this paper we present some theoretical and empirical the selection method in genetic algorithms for a GA-hard problem.

  • The major object of the Space Exploitation Act lies in defining and governing the object and definition which is distinct from the ones regulated by the Aerospace Industry Act. The concept of "space exploitation" defined in the Act is defined for that purpose. The space exploitation is defined as a comprehensive concept including the research and development of the space technology which is only enabled through the actual utilization and space exploration activities. Based upon such conceptualization, any problem related to the present legal system might be put up with, especially space exploitation being differentiated from the space industry. On the other hand, the Act is to make the international obligations derived from the international treaties be fulfilled through the minimal regulation with respect to the space activities such as space object registration procedure, the licensing regime of launching activities from the korean territory, etc.
