  • In some previous works on musical genre classification, human experts specify segments of a song for extracting musical features. Although this approach might contribute to performance enhancement, it requires manual intervention and thus can not be easily applied to new incoming songs. To extract musical features without the manual intervention, most of recent researches on music genre classification extract features from a pre-determined part of a song (for example, 30 seconds after initial 30 seconds), which may cause loss of accuracy. In this paper, in order to alleviate the accuracy problem, we propose a new method, which extracts features from representative segments (or main theme part) identified by structure analysis of music piece. The proposed method detects segments with repeated melody in a song and selects representative ones among them by considering their positions and energies. Experimental results show that the proposed method significantly improve the accuracy compared to the approach using a pre-determined part.

  • Purpose: This study was aimed to determine the effects of thoracic spine thrust manipulation on muscle activities of the scapular upward rotators and middle deltoid, active range of motion (AROM), shoulder pain, and rounded shoulder posture in young adults with rounded shoulder. Methods: The subjects were 30 young adults (14 males, 16 females) with rounded shoulder. Thirty subjects were randomly assigned to an experimental (manipulation) and control (placebo) groups of fifteen subjects respectively. The manipulation group received the manipulation (high velocity, low amplitude), which was performed by a physical therapist with the subject in the supine position and with the arms crossed over the chest and hands passed over the shoulders. For the sham group, the same procedure was performed, with the exception that the high-velocity thrust was not applied. Measurements were taken before and after the intervention. Muscle activity of upper and lower trapezius, serratus anterior, middle deltoid was measured using surface electromyography. Visual analog scale (VAS) was used for shoulder pain. Goniometry was used for shoulder abduction active range of motion (AROM). Straight edge was used for supine rounded shoulder posture (RSP) distance. Results: The muscle activity of the upper trapezius, lower trapezius and middle deltoid muscle increased significantly after the intervention (p<.05). However, no significant difference was observed in serratus anterior muscle (p>.05). The VAS was significantly decreased and AROM significantly increased after the intervention (p<.05). The distance of RSP were not significant (p>.05). The control group showed no differences before and after the intervention (p>.05). Conclusion: The results of this study suggest that thoracic spine thrust manipulation can be an effective component of treatment plan to improve pain and function.

  • Background: This study aims to examine the effects of sling exercise and common exercise on the pain level of various body parts. Methods: This study divided the subjects into a sling-exercise group and a common exercise group to for each group across the measurement times after practicing exercises twice per week for 8 weeks (total 16times). To compare the means of the experimental group and the control group on each variable, the ANOVA for repeated measure was used and if there was any significant difference across the measurement times, post-hoc comparisons were conducted for the difference. The T-tests for group difference according to exercise type on each of the variables showed the results as follows. Results: The results of this study suggest that there were significant difference in pain in shoulder pain, but no significant difference could be found in the Thoracic pain & Knee joint pain. There was no significant difference to distinguish between the sling exercise and the common exercise. Conclusions: Currently the sling exercise is not spread out widely in Korea, so that the recognition and studies of the sling exercise is still lacking. Hence, this study can hopefully facilitate popularity of the sling exercise and systematic prospect studies on it in the near future.

  • In navigator systems, keeping map data up-to-date is an important task. Manual update involves a substantial cost and it is difficult to achieve immediate reflection of changes with manual updates. In this paper, we present a method for trajectory-center extraction, which is essential for automatic road map generation with GPS data. Though clustered trajectories are necessary to extract the center road, real trajectories are not clustered. To address this problem, this paper proposes a new method using the maximum overlapping interval and trajectory clustering. Finally, we apply the Virtual Running method to extract the center road from the clustered trajectories. We conducted experiments on real massive taxi GPS data sets collected throughout Gang-Nam-Gu, Sung-Nam city and all parts of Seoul city. Experimental results showed that our method is stable and efficient for extracting the center trajectory of real roads.

  • Recently, aerial laser scanning technology has received full attention in constructing DEM(Digital Elevation Model). It is well known that the quality of DEM is mostly influenced by the accuracy of DTD(Digital Terrain Data) extracted from LiDAR(Light Detection And Ranging) raw data. However, there are always misclassified data in the DTD generated by automatic filtering process due to the limitation of automatic filtering algorithm and intrinsic property of LiDAR raw data. In order to eliminate the misclassified data, a manual filtering process is performed right after automatic filtering process. In this study, an algorithm that detects automatically possible misclassified data included in the DTD from automatic filtering process is proposed, which will reduce the load of manual filtering process. The algorithm runs on 2D grid data structure and makes use of several parameters such as 'Slope Angle', 'Slope DeltaH' and 'NNMaxDH(Nearest Neighbor Max Delta Height)'. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm quite well detected the misclassified data regardless of the terrain type and LiDAR point density.

  • In this paper, we propose a named entity and event annotation tool for cultural heritage information corpus construction. Focusing on time, location, person, and event suitable for cultural heritage information management, the annotator writes the named entities and events with the proposed tool. In order to easily annotate the named entities and the events, the proposed tool automatically annotates the location information such as the line number or the word number, and shows the corresponding string, formatted as both bold and italic, in the raw text. For the purpose of reducing the costs of the manual annotation, the proposed tool utilizes the patterns to automatically recognize the named entities. Considering the very little training corpus, the proposed tool extracts simple rule patterns. To avoid error propagation, the proposed patterns are extracted from the raw text without any additional process. Experimental results show that the proposed tool reduces more than half of the manual annotation costs.
