Multiple-count problem is occurred when rectangle objects span across several buckets. The Cumulative Density (CD) histogram is a technique which solves multiple-count problem by keeping four sub-histograms corresponding to the four points of rectangle. Although it provides exact results with constant response time, there is still a considerable issue. Since it is based on a query window which aligns with a given grid, a number of errors may be occurred when it is applied to real applications. In this paper, we proposed selectivity estimation techniques using the generalized cumulative density histogram based on two probabilistic models: (1) probabilistic model which considers the query window area ratio, (2) probabilistic model which considers intersection area between a given grid and objects. In order to evaluate the proposed methods, we experimented with real dataset and experimental results showed that the proposed technique was superior to the existing selectivity estimation techniques. The proposed techniques can be used to accurately quantify the selectivity of the spatial range query on rectangle objects.
Nondestructive evaluation using surface waves needs an analytical solution for the reference value to compare with experimental data. Finite element analysis is very powerful tool to simulate the wave propagation, but has some defects. It is very expensive and high time-complexity for the required high resolution. For those reasons, it is hard to implement an optimization problem in the actual situation. The developed engine in this paper can substitute for the finite element analysis of surface waves propagation, and it accomplishes the fast analysis possible to be used in optimization. Including this artificial intelligence engine, most of soft computing algorithms can be applied on the special database. The database of surface waves propagation is easily constructed with the results of finite element analysis after reducing the dimensions of data. The principal wavelet-component analysis is an efficient method to simplify the transient wave signal into some representative peaks. At the end, artificial neural network based on the database make it possible to invent the artificial intelligence engine.
In this paper, we propose a method which allows the SuperSQL query processor to share as much code as possible among various, generators, each of which is responsible for the output of a certain medium. SuperSQL is an enhanced query-processing system that converts database records into a variety of formats such as XML, HTML, PDF and etc. However, the existing SuperSQL media generator would require creation of a different processor for each medium, causing duplicated development cost. This research makes three main contributions: First, it analyzes the structures of various media, examining any possibility of integration based on their common structure. Second, it also facilitates the addition of a new output media generator by separating constructors and decorators from each medium. Last, it provides an integrated user interface to each media by method of the Media Abstraction Table Concept. We also show the performance and feasibility of our system using experimental results.
The Joint Bayesian (JB) method has been used in most state-of-the-art methods for face verification. However, since the publication of the original JB method in 2012, no improved verification method has been proposed. A lot of studies on face verification have been focused on extracting good features to improve the performance in the challenging Labeled Faces in the Wild (LFW) database. In this paper, we propose an improved version of the JB method, called the two-dimensional Joint Bayesian (2D-JB) method. It is very simple but effective in both the training and test phases. We separated two symmetric terms from the three terms of the JB log likelihood ratio function. Using the two terms as a two-dimensional vector, we learned a decision line to classify same and not-same cases. Our experimental results show that the proposed 2D-JB method significantly outperforms the original JB method by more than 1% in the LFW database.

Monte Carlo simulation is widely used for predicting ion implantation profiles in amorphous targets. Here, we compared Monte Carlo simulation results with a vast database of ion implantation secondary ion mass spectrometry (SIMS), and showed that the Monte Carlo data sometimes deviated from the experimental data. We modified the electron stopping power model, calibrated its parameters, and reproduced most of the database. We also demonstrated that Monte Carlo simulation can accurately predict profiles in a low energy range of around 1keV once it is calibrated in the higher energy region.
In this paper, we propose facial expression recognition using CNN (Convolutional Neural Network), one of the deep learning technologies. The proposed structure has general classification performance for any environment or subject. For this purpose, we collect a variety of databases and organize the database into six expression classes such as 'expressionless', 'happy', 'sad', 'angry', 'surprised' and 'disgusted'. Pre-processing and data augmentation techniques are applied to improve training efficiency and classification performance. In the existing CNN structure, the optimal structure that best expresses the features of six facial expressions is found by adjusting the number of feature maps of the convolutional layer and the number of nodes of fully-connected layer. The experimental results show good classification performance compared to the state-of-the-arts in experiments of the cross validation and the cross database. Also, compared to other conventional models, it is confirmed that the proposed structure is superior in classification performance with less execution time.
A database application, namely MushBase, has been built based on Microsoft Access in order to store and manage different kinds of data about mushroom biological information of species, strains and their physiological characteristics such as geometries and growth condition(s). In addition, it is also designed to store another group of information that is experimental data about mushroom classification by Random Amplification of Polymorphic DNA (RAPD). These two groups of information are stored and managed in the way so that it is convenient to retrieve each group of data and to cross-refer between them as well.
This paper describes an expert system on the cylindrical grinding operations in order to establish the optimum grinding conditions, which satisfy the maximum removal rates, considering the several constraints of grinding power, workpiece burn, chatter vibration and surface roughness. Specialized knowledge of the grinding operations are acquired from the actual operation database. Coefficientis in the experimental equations are obtaines through the fuzzy regression model based on the fuzzy set theory, and are stored in the actual operation database. The developed system is capable of determining the optimum grinding conditions taking into account some problems, and practical examples of implementaion are described.
