This study established the standard recommended values and expansion fracture threshold values for the content of steel slag in controlled low-strength materials (CLSM) to ensure the appropriate use of steel slag aggregates and the prevention of abnormal expansion. The steel slags used in this study included basic oxygen furnace (BOF) slag and desulfurization slag (DS), which replaced 5-50% of natural river sand by weight in cement mixtures. The steel slag mortars were tested by high-temperature ($100^{\circ}C$) curing for 96 h and autoclave expansion. The results showed that the effects of the steel slag content varied based on the free lime (f-CaO) content. No more than 30% of the natural river sand should be replaced with steel slag to avoid fracture failure. The expansion fracture threshold value was 0.10%, above which there was a risk of potential failure. Based on the scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analysis, the high-temperature catalysis resulted in the immediate extrusion of peripheral hydration products from the calcium hydroxide crystals, leading to a local stress concentration and, eventually, deformation and cracking.

This study was performed to investigate the influence of curing temperature on the properties of light weight foamed concrete, manufactured on-site construction according to the various experimental factor such as temperature of material, curing temperature in air(5, 10, 20℃), curing time in air(5, 10, 15hour), and target density of hardened state(0.8, 1.2t/㎥). As a result, the influence of the curing temperature on various properties of foamed concrete is greater than curing time. When increasing temperature and time in air curing, progress of hydration is fast and compressive strength is increasing more and more. However, when considering the productivity, minimum curing time is required 15hours at 5℃, 10hours at 10℃, and 5hours at 20℃. If this condition is not required, there is some crack due to volume expansion on the surface of light weight foamed concrete.
In this paper, we propose a query expansion method based on word graphs using pseudo-relevant and pseudo non-relevant documents to achieve performance improvement in information retrieval. The initially retrieved documents are classified into a core cluster when a document includes core query terms extracted by query term combinations and the degree of query term proximity. Otherwise, documents are classified into a non-core cluster. The documents that belong to a core query cluster can be seen as pseudo-relevant documents, and the documents that belong to a non-core cluster can be seen as pseudo non-relevant documents. Each cluster is represented as a graph which has nodes and edges. Each node represents a term and each edge represents proximity between the term and a query term. The term weight is calculated by subtracting the term weight in the non-core cluster graph from the term weight in the core cluster graph. It means that a term with a high weight in a non-core cluster graph should not be considered as an expanded term. Expansion terms are selected according to the term weights. Experimental results on TREC WT10g test collection show that the proposed method achieves 9.4% improvement over the language model in mean average precision.

Conventional methods for reducing vibration in engineering designs may be undesirable in conditions where size or weight must be minimized, or where complex vibration spectra exist. Fe-Mn Damping alloy with a combination of high damping capacity and good mechanical properties can provide attractive technical and economical solutions to problems involving seismic, shock and vibration isolation. We have studied the noise and vibration characteristic of Dampalloy and checked Dampalloy reduced noise about 3.9dB and vibration about 15.9 times as compared conventional material through laboratory research. With this result, we obtained a good possibility of material substitution about the bridge expansion joint

Recently the hydroforming technology has drawn a lot of attention because of its capability to produce high quality and light weight parts. In the present study, the tube expansion - one of the simplest hydroforming processes, has been investigated in order to understand fundamental phenomena such as deformation characteristics and effect of process parameters. As a result, the most important process parameters, which determine the state of stress at the expanded zone, were found to be pressure and die displacement. If the stress becomes equi-axial tension at the zone, necking occurs at some distance from the weld line and develops into a crack along the axial direction. Some aspects of mechanical property measurements as well as distributions of hardness and microstructure are also discussed in this paper.
Recently $SF_6$ gas circuit breakers utilizing the thermal-expansion principle are increasingly used in distribution power system. Active researches and developments have been conducted to reduce the size and weight, and to improve the interrupting performance of the circuit breakers. It was first developed a programme which could show the hot gas flowing into the thermal-expansion arc chamber. This programme, using so-called FLIC method basically, adopted 'Simplified Enthalpy Arc Model' which was somewhat modified to estimate the arc quenching process. The computation by it was compared with the measured results of the pressure rise in the chamber, and both showed fairly good agreement.
Biomass expansion factors, which convert timber volume (or dry weight) to biomass, are used for estimating the forest biomass and accounting for the carbon budget at a regional or national scale. We estimated the biomass conversion and expansion factors (BCEF), biomass expansion factors (BEF), root to shoot ratio (R), and ecosystem biomass expansion factor (EBEF) for Quercus mongolica Fisch. and Quercus variabilis Bl. forests based on publications in Korea. The mean BCEF, BEF, and R for Q. mongolica was 1.0383 Mg/$m^3$ (N = 27; standard deviation [SD], 0.5515), 1.3572 (N = 27; SD, 0.1355), and 0.2017 (N = 32; SD, 0.0447), respectively. The mean BCEF, BEF, and R for Q. variabilis was 0.7164 Mg/$m^3$ (N = 17; SD, 0.3232), 1.2464 (N = 17; SD, 0.0823), and 0.1660 (N = 8; SD, 0.0632), respectively. The mean EBEF, as a simple method for estimating the ground vegetation biomass, was 1.0216 (N = 7; SD, 0.0232) for Q. mongolica forest ecosystems, and 1.0496 (N = 8; SD, 0.0725) for Q. variabilis forest ecosystems. The biomass expansion factor values in this study may be better estimates of forest biomass in Q. mongolica or Q. variabilis forests of Korea compared with the default values given by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).
For weight reduction of the gearbox of power bogie of high speed train, aluminum alloy is recommended for the material of the gerabox case. In this paper, three models(Steel G/B Case-Steel BRG. Case[model-S], Aluminum G/B Case-Aluminum BRG. Case[model-A], Aluminum G/B Case-Steel BRG. Case[model-AS]) were compared to each other in the view of thermal expansion. The evaluation of the internal load, thermal expansion deformation and lug analysis were executed. It results that the 'model-A' is excessively deformed and fail in the bolt hole of bearing case. Material change of the bearing case to steel(model-AS) is effective to restrain the deformation of the inner radios of the bearing case and to prevent the failure of that.
We propose a new query expansion method in the extended Boolean model that improves precision without degrading recall. For improving precision, our method promotes the ranks of documents having more query terms since users typically prefer such documents. The proposed method consists of the following three steps: (1) expanding the query by adding new terms related to each term of the query, (2) further expanding the query by adding augmented terms, which are conjunctions of the terms, (3) assigning a weight on each term so that augmented terms have higher weights than the other terms. We conduct extensive experiments to show the effectiveness of the proposed method. The experimental results show that the proposed method improves precision by up to 102% for the TREC-6 data compared with the existing query expansion method using a thesaurus proposed by Kwon et al.

Researches on estimating national-scaled forest biomass are being carried out to quantify the carbon stock of forests with the Kyoto Protocol. In general, estimates of national-scaled forest biomass are based on forest inventory data which provides estimates of forest area, stem volume, and growth of stem by age classes. Estimates of forest biomass are, however, obtained by converting stem volumes to dry weight with stem density and thereafter to whole tree biomass with biomass expansion factors (ratios of whole tree dry weight to stem dry weight). Pinus densiflora is widely distributed and one of the most economically important timber species in Korea. The species are largely grouped into two ecotypes of Geumgang and Jungbu. Stems of Geumgang type trees are straight and high compared to those of Jungbu type trees. The objective of this study was to determine and compare stem density and biomass expansion factors fore two ecotypes of Pinus densiflora according to stand age. Stem density of both ecotypes of Pinus densora increased and biomass expansion factors of them decreased with increasing tree age. In he same age class, stem density and biomass expansion factor of Geungang type Pinus densiflora were lower than those of Jungbu type Pinus densiflora. There were statistically significant differences in stem density and biomass expansion factors between Geumgang type and Jungbu type Pinus densiflora in 0-20-year-old stands and 40-60-year-old stands. Our results suggested that the reliability of the national forest biomass inventory could be improved by applying the ecotype- and age-dependent stem density and biomass expansion factors.
