In regression model with nested error structure interval estimations about variability on different stages are proposed. This article derives an approximate confidence interval on the variance in the first stage and an exact confidence interval on the variance in the second stage in two stage regression model. The approximate confidence interval is vased on Ting et al. (1990) method. Computer simulation is procided to show that the approximate confidence interval maintains the stated confidence coeffient.

When an electric (or a magnetic) line source is located near the surface, surface wave type field is generated and the energy associated with this field is guided very close to the impedance surface. In this paper, field strength is calculated by the exact modal and ray methods for a line source excited parallel plate waveguide. The surface wave contribution to the modal and ray solutions is anticipated very strong and must be included in both solutions.
Considerable efforts are required to develop a monotone, robust and stable high-order numerical scheme for solving the hyperbolic system. The discontinuous Galerkin(DG) method is a natural choice, but elimination of the spurious oscillations from the high-order solutions demands a new development of proper limiters for the DG method. There are several available limiters for controlling or removing unphysical oscillations from the high-order approximate solution; however, very few studies were directed to analyze the exact role of the limiters in the hyperbolic systems. In this study, the performance of the several well-known limiters is examined by comparing the high-order($p^1$, $p^2$, and $p^3$) approximate solutions with the exact solutions. It is shown that the accuracy of the limiter is in general problem-dependent, although the Hermite WENO limiter and maximum principle limiter perform better than the TVD and generalized moment limiters for most of the test cases. It is also shown that application of the troubled cell indicators may improve the accuracy of the limiters under some specific conditions.
The objective of this study is the finite element-transfer stiffness coefficient method, which is the combination of the modeling technique of finite element method and the transfer technique of transfer stiffness coefficient method, is applied in the static analyses of two dimensional curved beam structures. To confirm the effectiveness of the applied method, two computational models are selected and analyzed by using finite element method, finite element-transfer stiffness coefficient method and exact solution. The computational results of the static analyses for two computational models using finite element-transfer stiffness coefficient method are equal to those using finite element method. When the element partition number of curved beam structure is increased, the computational results of the static analyses using both methods approach the exact solution. We confirmed that the finite element-transfer stiffness coefficient method is superior to finite element method when the number of the curved beam elements is increased from the viewpoints of the computational speed and the utility of computer memory.
In many CAD systems, NURBS has been employed to construct exact geometries. Recently, NURBS finite element analysis methods were proposed by some authors for convenient connection between CAD and finite element analysis. Additional advantages of NURBS FEA, such as exact geometry and no mesh generation, are obtained. However, NURBS is inefficient in local refinement and merging patches. For refinement of local region in interest, additional control points should be inserted into the entire row or column which contains the local region. There is another inefficiency of NURBS during merging patches into a large structure due to propagation of control points. In order to overcome these inefficiencies of NURBS, T-spline was proposed by Sederberg. In this work, T-spline based finite element method is proposed for efficient local refinement and merging patches. At first, accuracy and efficiency of NURBS FEA is verified and efficiency of T-spline FEA is verified by comparing with NURBS FEA.
Using the concept of cellular manufacturing systems(CMS) in job shop manufacturing system is one of the most innovative approaches to improving plant productivity. However. several constraints in machine duplication cost, machining capability, cell space capacity, intercell moves and exceptional elements(EEs) are main problems that prevent achieving the goal of maintaining an ideal CMS environment. Minimizing intercell part traffics and EEs are the main objective of the cell formation problem because it is a critical point that improving production efficiency. Because the intercell moves could be changed according to the sequence of operation, it should be considered in assigning parts and machines to machine ceil. This paper presents a method that eliminates EEs under the constraints of machine duplication cost and ceil space capacity attaining two goals of minimizing machine duplications and minimizing intercell moves simultaneously. Developing an algorithm that calculates the machine duplications by cell-machine incidence matrix and part-machine Incidence matrix, and calculates the exact intercell moves considering the sequence of operation. Based on the number of machine duplications and exact intercell moves, the goal programming model which satisfying minimum machine duplications and minimum intercell moves is developed. A linear programming model is suggested that could calculates more effectively without damaging optimal solution. A numerical example is provided to illustrate these methods.

The Discrete Ordinates Interpolation Method (DOIM) is tested in three-dimensional enclosures. The radiative transfer equation (RTE) is solved for a linear source term and the DOIM is formulated for a gray medium. Several interpolation methods can be applied to the DOIM scheme. Among them, the interpolation method applicable to an unstructured grid system is discussed. In a regular hexahedron enclosure, radiative wall heat fluxes are calculated and compared with exact solutions. The enclosure has an absorbing, emitting and nonscattering medium and a constant temperature distribution. These results are obtained with varying optical depths (xD = 0.1, 1.0, 10.0). Also, the same calculations are performed in an irregular hexahedron enclosure. The DOIM is applied to an unstructured grid system as well as a structured grid system for the same regular hexahedron enclosure. They are compared with the exact solutions and the computational efficiencies are discussed. When compared with the analytic solutions, results of the DOIM are in good agreement for three-dimensional enclosures. Furthermore, the DOIM can be easily applied to the unstructured grid system, which proves the reliability and versatility of the DOIM.
The adjoint variable method can reduce computation time and save computer resources because it can selectively provide the sensitivity information for the positions that designers wish to measure. However, the adjoint variable method commonly employs exact analytical differentiation with respect to the design variables. It can be cumbersome to precisely differentiate every given type of finite element. This trouble can be overcome only if the numerical differentiation scheme can replace this exact manner of differentiation. But, the numerical differentiation scheme causes of severe inaccuracy due to the perturbation size dilemma. For assuring the accurate sensitivity without any dependency of perturbation size, this paper employs a complex variable that has been mainly used for computational fluid dynamics problems. The adjoint variable method combined with complex variables is applied to obtain the shape and size sensitivity for structural optimization. Numerical examples demonstrate that the proposed method can predict stable sensitivity results and that its accuracy is remarkably superior to traditional sensitivity evaluation methods.
