Owing to our rapidly aging society, accessibility evaluation to enhance the ease and safety of access to indoor and outdoor environments for the elderly and disabled is increasing in importance. Accessibility must be assessed not only from the general standard aspect but also in terms of physical and cognitive friendliness for users of different ages, genders, and abilities. Meanwhile, human behavior simulation has been progressing in the areas of crowd behavior analysis and emergency evacuation planning. However, in human behavior simulation, environment models represent only "as-planned" situations. In addition, a pedestrian model cannot generate the detailed articulated movements of various people of different ages and genders in the simulation. Therefore, the final goal of this research was to develop a virtual accessibility evaluation by combining realistic human behavior simulation using a digital human model (DHM) with "as-is" environment models. To achieve this goal, we developed an algorithm for generating human-like DHM walking motions, adapting its strides, turning angles, and footprints to laser-scanned 3D as-is environments including slopes and stairs. The DHM motion was generated based only on a motion-capture (MoCap) data for flat walking. Our implementation constructed as-is 3D environment models from laser-scanned point clouds of real environments and enabled a DHM to walk autonomously in various environment models. The difference in joint angles between the DHM and MoCap data was evaluated. Demonstrations of our environment modeling and walking simulation in indoor and outdoor environments including corridors, slopes, and stairs are illustrated in this study.

Diverse geostatistical tools such as kriging have been used to estimate the volume and spatial coverage of contaminated soil needed for remediation. However, many approaches frequently yield estimation errors, due to inherent geostatistical uncertainties. Such errors may yield over- or under-estimation of the amounts of polluted soils, which cause an over-estimation of remediation cost as well as an incomplete clean-up of a contaminated land. Therefore, it is very important to use a better estimation tool considering uncertainties arising from incomplete field investigation (i.e., contamination survey) and mathematical spatial estimation. In the current work, as better estimation tools we propose stochastic simulation approaches which allow the remediation volume to be assessed more accurately along with uncertainty estimation. To test the efficiency of proposed methods, heavy metals (esp., Pb) contaminated soil of a shooting range area was selected. In addition, we suggest a quantitative method to delineate the confident interval of estimated volume (and spatial extent) of polluted soil based on the spatial aspect of uncertainty. The methods proposed in this work can improve a better decision making on soil remediation.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the present status of environmental education administration in the middle schools of Seoul City and to find problems to be solved environmental education in middle schools. To accomplish these purpose surveys for middle school teachers in Seoul was conducted, and evaluation reports of school environmental education of 1998 were analyzed. The results indicated that both schools and Ministry of Education offered few evaluation standards related to environmental education. Most schools abolished division of environmental affairs because of the reorganization of school system, which focuses on subject and aptitude-based education. In addition, environmental education and related activities were maily the responsibilities of division of science education. The teachers responded that such activities as organization and management of mothers'social service, management of environment day, use of environmental conservation card, and establishment of conservation area were not effective and should be abolished. The conclusion from this study are that environmental education can be effective only when goals of environmental education are included in school evaluation, and the division of environmental affairs should be revived and systematically operated in school.

This study aims to evaluate the student's satisfaction of clinical performance examination(CPX) and self-assessment in Korean medical curriculum. A questionnaire was given to clinical clerkship students of Pusan National University School of Korean medicine in this study. The items in this questionnaire covered overall evaluation of guidelines, module & learning environment, standardized patients, and self-assessment in CPX. Most of all students recognized CPX as a more effective learning method than any other method. Most students were satisfied with the module & learning environment, standardized patients, and self-assessment except the satisfaction for guidelines relationally. The results of this study demonstrated that the students had a high level of satisfaction in CPX. This study shows that CPX has been implemented into the Korean medical curriculum.
Purpose: As the energy consumed by buildings increases, there is a growing need for studies and technology development to address this issue. One of the solutions to excessive energy use by buildings is the light-shelf, which is a natural lighting system enabling efficient reduction in light energy, and research in this area has been intensive. However, most of the studies about the light-shelf are limited to the light environment, and thus the application of their findings to an actual environment in the form of a design may be problematic. Therefore, the purpose of the present study is to provide fundamental data for light-shelf design by carrying out a light-shelf performance evaluation on the basis of the light environment and the heating and cooling environment. Method: In the present study, a testbed was established to conduct a light-shelf performance evaluation by measuring the electric power consumption of lighting and heating and cooling devices depending on the existence of a light-shelf and its angle. Result: The findings of the present study are as follows: 1) With respect to the uniformity of the indoor light environment amenity, the optimum angle of a light-shelf was found to be $30^{\circ}$ for the summer solstice and the winter solstice. 2) With respect to the reduction of electric power consumption by indoor lighting devices, the optimum light-shelf angle at the summer solstice is $30^{\circ}$, at which time electric power consumption may be reduced by 10.2% in comparison with when no light-shelf is applied. However, at the winter solstice, a light-shelf may increase the energy consumption for lighting in comparison with when no light-shelf is applied, and this should be taken into account in the design of a light-shelf. 3) In terms of reducing the electric power consumption of heating and cooling devices, the optimum angle of a light-shelf was found to be $30^{\circ}$ for the summer solstice, while a light-shelf is inappropriate for the winter solstice since a light-shelf creates shade and thus increases the heating energy consumption. 4) To summarize the findings above, the optimum angle of a light-shelf is $30^{\circ}$ for the summer solstice, but the installation of a light-shelf may in some circumstances increase the energy consumed by lighting devices as well as by heating and cooling devices. Therefore, more studies and technology development may need to be performed to solve the problem of increased energy consumption at the winter solstice.

The purpose of this study is to determine what children's rights to play are. For this purpose, we extracted the core contents of schools' play environments and we developed a checklist that schools can use to evaluate their own play environments. We reviewed the UN Committee on the Rights of Children and the General Comments No. 17. Through this process, we found 16 core contents that the play environment should have. We conducted focus group interviews with children, parents and teachers, who are principle people involved with school play. The focus group interviews discussed the basic elements of the school play environment. The contents' validity was reviewed by a group of professionals. Based on this, we created an evaluation checklist with 10 major areas of the school play environment. The 10 areas of the school play environment evaluation scale are as follows. The ten areas of the play environment assessment scale for the school environment to ensure children's right to play are sufficient play time, sufficient play space, a child's best interests and the child's participation, nondiscrimination, diversity and freedom, challenge and adventure, safety, school policy, the play has an educating component, and community cooperation.

In general, teachers' perceptions on the physical environment of elementary school are related on the quality of education and school life. But, we don't have study what teachers think of their enviroment of school. This study analyzed elementary school teachers' satisfaction with overall physical environment and their assessment of spaces with specific functions in order to understand teachers' perception of the physical environment of elementary schools. A survey questionnaire was administered to 982 homeroom teachers working at 67 elementary schools located in Seoul and Busan. Teachers' satisfaction with physical environment of school and their assessment were analyzed comparatively according to the teachers' personal attributes and school conditions. 1) Most of the surveyed teachers were satisfied with overall physical environment of the school, and assessed high the substantiality of functional spaces indoor and outdoor. By sub-factor, however, their satisfaction with work environment was lower than that with education and living environment. 2) The teachers perceived that the optimal number of classes was 30~36, and this is probably because they were relatively accustomed to large scale schools. 3) As might be expected, negative assessments were more frequent among teachers working at a large-scale school, an old school, or a school with small outdoor spaces. The results of this study show that, though partially different according to region, gender, teaching experience and school condition, teachers' satisfaction with school environment was relatively high. This suggests that elementary school teachers perceive their current school environment positively. Because they are accustomed to traditional education methods that have been maintained.

Facility management is to maintain and develop the primary structural, functional, aesthetic performance of facility in order to guaranty the users' daily convenience and safety. However it is hard to maintain and serve their intended function and safe environment from the beginning as times go by. As present educational government of city and local area has been performing formally facility check and management as well as maintenance of school facility, it is hard to respond a dangerous situation at the suitable time and safety prevention plans are delayed. In addition, educational environment improving budget have been unreasonably decided not according to the allocating criteria. Therefore, this research developed a same, simple, and quantitative evaluation method of deterioration level of elementary, middle, and high School in Korea and verified usability of the method through the case study.
Purpose: Various studies have been performed to address the issue of increased energy use by buildings. In particular, research on complex envelopes that combines diverse envelope element techniques is currently in progress in the building sector. The present study aimed to develop an awning system using a light shelf, and to verify its validity through performance evaluation. Method: In the present study, a testbed was established for the performance evaluation of the awning system using a light shelf, and the uniformity ratio and lighting energy consumption were compared and analyzed relative to those with no awning and light shelf installation (Case 1), awning installation (Case 2), and light shelf installation (Case 3). Result: 1) In the present study, an awning system using a light shelf (Case 4) where an opening is made on the awning screen and natural light can be introduced through the light shelf located at the bottom was developed. 2) The optimum standard for Case 4 obtained through the performance evaluation was a 0.6m lighting length and a 2m extension length at a light shelf angle of $30^{\circ}$. 3) Case 4 with the optimum standard had a 5.5% lower uniformity ratio than Case 2, but had a higher uniformity ratio than Case 1 and Case 3. 4) Case 4 with the optimum standard showed 13.3%, 44.6%, and 0%~8.7% lighting energy reductions compared to Case 1, Case 2, and Case 3, respectively. 5) Based on the above results, Case 4 suggested in the present study was found to be effective for indoor light environment improvement and lighting energy reduction.

This research as an obstacle -free living environment certification mandatory school facilities based on studies of BF accreditation indicators of school facilities, BF Survey and Analysis amenities installation status of school facilities based on the certified assessment indicators and school facilities improvement of the accreditation indicators for BF was to explore. Excellent facilities via one of the surveyed schools selected as school facilities, the comparison analyzing the current status and BF certification evaluation indicators within the facility, the intermediate facility entry access, handicapped parking areas, main entrance item BF was to meet the minimum standards of accreditation indicators. For internal facilities BF accreditation indicators have applied the same criteria to all buildings less than that is not reflected in layout and space planning, environmental planning of school facilities was analyzed that showed the limits conflict with installation.
