  • CBR (Case-Based Reasoning) is a technique to infer the relationships between existing data and case data, and the method to calculate similarity and Euclidean distance is mostly frequently being used. However, since those methods compare all the existing and case data, it also has a demerit that it takes much time for data search and filtering. Therefore, to solve this problem, various researches have been conducted. This paper suggests the method of SE(Speed Euclidean-distance) calculation that utilizes the patterns discovered in the existing process of computing similarity and Euclidean distance. Because SE calculation applies the patterns and weight found during inputting new cases and enables fast data extraction and short operation time, it can enhance computing speed for temporal or spatial restrictions and eliminate unnecessary computing operation. Through this experiment, it has been found that the proposed method improves performance in various computer environments or processing rate more efficiently than the existing method that extracts data using similarity or Euclidean method does.

  • In order to analyze the behavior of moving objects, a measure for determining the similarity of trajectories needs to be defined. Although research has been conducted that retrieved similar trajectories of moving objects in Euclidean space, very little research has been conducted on moving objects in the space defined by road networks. In terms of real applications, most moving objects are located in road network space rather than in Euclidean space. In similarity measure between trajectories, however, previous methods were based on Euclidean distance and only considered spatial similarity. In this paper, we define similarity measure based on POI and TOI in road network space. With this definition, we present methods to retrieve similar trajectories using spatio-temporal similarity between trajectories. We show clustering results for similar trajectories. Experimental results show that similar trajectories searched by each method and consistency rate between each method for the searched trajectories.

  • Today, most data is stored in a database (DB). In the DB environment, the users requests the DB to find the data they wants. Similarity Query has predicate that explained by a similarity. However, in the process of processing the similarity query, it is difficult to use an index that can reduce the range of processed records, so the cost of calculating the similarity for all records in the table is high each time. To solve this problem, this paper defines a lightweight similarity function. The lightweight similarity function has lower data filtering accuracy than the similarity function, but consumes less cost than the similarity function. We present a method for reducing similarity query processing cost by using the lightweight similarity function features. Then, Chebyshev distance is presented as a lightweight similarity function to the Euclidean distance function, and the processing cost of a query using the existing similarity function and a query using the lightweight similarity function is compared. And through experiments, it is confirmed that the similarity query processing cost is reduced when Chebyshev distance is applied as a lightweight similarity function for Euclidean similarity.

  • In this paper, we present a method to define a color similarity between color images using Octree-based quantization and similar color integration. The proposed method defines major colors from each image using Octree-based quantization. Two color palettes to consist of major colors are compared based on Euclidean distance and similar color bins between palettes are matched. Multiple matched color bins are integrated and major colors are adjusted. Color histogram based on the color palette is constructed for each image and the difference between two histograms is computed by the weighted Euclidean distance between the matched color bins in consideration of the frequency of each bin. As an experiment to validate the usefulness, we discriminated the same clothing from CCD camera images based on the proposed color similarity analysis. We retrieved the same clothing images with the success rate of 88 % using only color analysis without texture analysis.

  • Moving context determination is an important issue to be resolved in a mobile computing environment. This paper presents a method for recognizing and classifying a mobile user's moving context by Euclidean distance similarity. In the proposed method, basic data are gathered using Global Positioning System (GPS) and accelerometer sensors, and by using the data, the system decides which moving situation the user is in. The decided situation is one of the four categories: stop, walking, run, and moved by a car. In order to evaluate the effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed scheme, we have implemented applications using several variations of Euclidean distance similarity on the Android system, and measured the accuracies. Experimental results show that the proposed system achieves more than 90% accuracy.

  • Recently, coordination task of similarity between national R&D programs is emphasized on view from the R&D investment efficiency. But the previous similarity search method like text-based similarity search which using keyword of R&D projects has reached the limit due to deviation of document's quality. For the solve the limitations of text-based similarity search using the keyword extraction, in this study, utilization of R&D project's technical classification will be discussed as a new similarity search method when analyzed of similarity between national R&D programs. To this end, extracts the Science and Technology Standard Classification of R & D projects which are collected when national R&D Survey & analysis, and creates peculiar vector model of each R&D programs. Verify a reliability of this study by calculate the cosine-based and Euclidean distance-based similarity and compare with calculated the text-based similarity.

  • While most GIS are based on Euclidean space, cellular space can be used as an alternative type of space for a large number of GIS applications. In order to analyze the pattern of moving objects in cellular space, we need new definitions of similarity between their trajectories since the trajectory in cellular space significantly differs from those in Euclidean space. In this paper, we study the properties of moving objects in cellular space. Based on these observations, we propose several similarity measures between trajectories in cellular space. We analyze the difference of the proposed measures by experiments.

  • The Euclidean distance is sensitive to the absolute offsets of time sequences, so it is not a suitable similarity measure in terms of shape. In this paper. we propose an indexing scheme for efficient matching and retrieval of time sequences based on the minimum distance. The minimum distance can give a better estimation of similarity in shape between two time sequences. Our indexing scheme can match time sequences of similar shapes irrespective of their vortical positions and guarantees no false dismissals

  • Objective: The purpose of this study was to present a new idea of methodology to evaluate Poomsae performance using inertial measurement unit (IMU) sensors in terms of signal processing techniques. Method: Ten collegian Taekwondo athletes, consisting of five Poomsae elite athletes (age: 21.4 ± 0.9 years, height: 168.4 ± 11.3 cm, weight: 65.0 ± 10.6 kg, experience: 12 ± 0.7 years) and five breaking demonstration athletes (age: 21.0 ± 0.0 years, height: 168.4 ± 4.7 cm, weight: 63.8 ± 8.2 kg, experience: 13.0 ± 2.1 years), voluntarily participated in this study. They performed three different black belt Poomsae such as Goryeo, Geumgang, and Taebaek Poomsae repeatedly twice. Repeated measured motion data on the wrist and ankle were calculated by the methods of cosine similarity and Euclidean distance. Results: The Poomsse athletes showed superior performance in terms of temporal consistency at Goryeo and Taebaek Poomsae, cosine similarity at Geumgang and Taebaek Poomsae, and Euclidian distance at Geumgang Poomsae. Conclusion: IMU sensor would be a useful tool for monitoring and evaluating within-subject temporal variability of Taekwondo Poomsae motions. As well it distinguished spatiotemporal characteristics among three different Poomsae.

  • Sentence or text similarity is a measure of the degree of similarity between two sentences. Techniques for measuring text similarity include Jacquard similarity, cosine similarity, Euclidean similarity, and Manhattan similarity. Currently, the cosine similarity technique is most often used, but since this is an analysis according to the occurrence or frequency of a word in a sentence, the analysis on the semantic relationship is insufficient. Therefore, we try to improve the efficiency of analysis on the similarity of sentences by giving relations between words using ontology and including semantic similarity when extracting words that are commonly included in two sentences.
