  • This experiment was executed to investigate the characteristics of gloss and color difference in coated films by N.C. Lacquer, Aminoalkyd, Polyester. and Polyurethan coating after chemical (distilled water, ethyl alcohol. acetic acid, and sodium hydroxide) and heating ($120^{\circ}C$) treatments, cold-check test, and U.V. radiation. The results obtained were summarized as follows 1. The gloss decreasing rate by water resistance test was the least among chemicals treated on coated films. 2. The color difference of coated films chemical treatments highly and similarly increased, except the alkali treatment showing a little increase. 3. In the color difference by U.V. radiation, the polyester coated film showed generally large difference compared with the other coated films.

  • Diamond film was deposited on Si wafer substrate from a gas mixture of methane, hydrogen and oxygen by microwave plasma-assisted chemical vapor deposition. The effects of the pre-treatments of the substrate and of the oxygen addition on the diamond film synthesis are described. In order to obtain diamond film, the substrate was pre-treated with 3 kinds of methods. When the substrate was ultrasonically vibrated within the ethyl alcohol dispersed with 25${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ diamond powder, the denset diamond film was deposited. Addition of oxygen in the gas mixture of methane and hydrogen improved the crystallinity of the deposited diamond film and also increased the deposition rate of the diamond film more than two times.

  • Hexagonal boron nitride (BN) films were prepared. The process involved, spraying BN powder-dispersed $H_3BO_4-BCl_3$-ethyl alcohol solution on quartz plates, and the drying off quartz plates before, and annealing at $1070^{\circ}C$ in a nitrogen atmosphere. The optical energy band gap of the BN films was 5.28 eV. Photoluminescence peaks with energies of 3.44, 3.16, 2.97, and 2.35 eV at 10 K were observed and analyzed. Accordingly, these have resulted from donor-acceptor pair recombinations.

  • The purpose of this research was to investigate the color characteristic and the dyeing properties of Glycyrrhizae Radix extract on cotton fabrics. The highest absorbance of Glycyrrhizae Radix extract was obtained in 75 v/v% of ethyl alcohol in water. Pre-mordanted cotton fabrics dyed at $30^{\circ}C$ and pH 3 for 80 minutes showed the highest K/S value. According to the dyeing conditions, the colors of the fabrics varied from yellow(Y) and yellowish red(YR) to greenish yellow(GY). The color fastness of the fabrics in dry-cleaning and water was 4~5 rating. The deodorization capacity and UV-cut effect of the dyed fabrics were higher than those of undyed ones.

  • This study was investigated to evaluate worker exposures to organic solvents by type of print industry. Results were as follows; 1. Workers were exposed to mixture of toluene, isopropyl alcohol(IPA), methyl ethyl ketone(MEK), n-hexane, ethylacetate(EA), acetone. The components of high exposure solvents were toluene, IPA and MEK. 2. Considering additive effects of the compounds, exposure indices(Em) were calculated. The Mean of exposure indices were 1.79 for Gravere, 0.41 for Screen and 0.14 for Opset workplace. The workers of Gravere workplace were estimated to overexpose for solvents. 3. The highest overexposed solvent was toluene for a single component. The rate of overexposed level for toluene was 7.41% for some print workplace and for mixed solvent was 1.85%. 4. Local exhaust systems were inappropriate and respiratory protective devices were not supplied to the workers. 5. Sound level was over 90dB(A) in Opset print workplace and some measures should be performed to get down the sound level.

  • A migratory bird, the white stork, Ciconia boyciana was captured from a pond in the Cheju Island on the 18th of December in 1982. The morphological characteristics were described as seen in the binocular stereoscopic microscope and the further fine structures were observed by means of the scanning electron microscope (Model; ISI-DS-130). The bird was examined for the ectoparasites at the Cheju Provincial Veterinary Research Laboratory. Two kinds of specimens were collected from the head and body feathers. The specimens were sent to the Institute of Veterinary Research in Anyang for the classification and identification. The specimens preserved in 70% ethyl alcohol were examined and identified as the fowl head-louse, Cuclotogaster heterographus and the slender goose-louse, Anaticola anseris both classified into Family Philopteridae, Ischnocera, Order Mallophaga.

  • A simple, safe, and sensitive gas chromatographic method using packed column and electron capture detector to analyze 2, 4-D herbicide in imported lemon, grapefruit, and orange was described and its usefulness evaluated. In this scheme of analysis the acid herbicide was converted into its alkyl esters by an one-step reaction prior to analysis. The herbicide in the fruits was extracted with ethyl acetate and partitioned against dichloromethane for purification, and the extracts finished partitioning were derivatized with alcohol, using sulfuric acid as a catalyst to form the corresponding alkyl derivatives. The analytical scheme studiedwas found to be applicable for the herbicide in the fruits without a column clean-up procedure. The mean recoveries of the herbicide for lemon samples fortified at 0.1 mg/kg and 1.0 mg/kg were 93% and 95%, respectively. The detection limit was 0.5 $\mu\textrm{g}$/kg for 2.4-D methyl ester.

  • Volatile aroma components, non-volatile organic acids in lamina and stems of flue-cured(NC 2326) and burley ( Burley 21) were analyzed by gas chromatography and mass spectrometry, respectively. Then compositional differences of these components between lamina and stems were discussed. The contents of volatile components were higher in flue-cured than in burley tobacco, and it was also higher in lamina then in stem. The major aroma components in lamina were neophytadiene , nicotine, solanone and benzyl alcohol but those in stems were palmitic acid, neophytadiene, nicotine, solanone and phenyl ethyl acetate. On the other hand, the contents of non-volatile organic acids were higher in burley than in flue-cured tobacco, and these values of burley tobacco were higher in lamina than in stem but flue-cured tobacco were higher in stem than in lamina. The major acids in all the above four tabacco samples were malic, citric, oxalic and linolenic acid.
