In this study, the economic population prediction by computer simulation has been studied by using statistical model. The forecast of future population based on that of the past is a very difficult problem as uncertain conditions are modeled in it. Even if a thought forecast is possible, world-wide cultures and the local culture emotion the cultures of the world and out country can not be predicted due to rapid change and the estimation of population is ‘nowadays more and more’ difficult to be made good guess. In the estimation of economic population, by using the census population from 1960 to 1990, and using ARIMA model developed by Box and Jenkins, the estimation has been done on the economic population until 2021 according to age as appeared table and appendix. This kind of forecast would have both good point and weak point of ARIMA model theory saying that prediction can be done only by the economic population.
Though box compression strength (BCS) is commonly used as a performance criterion for shipping containers, estimating BCS remains a challenge. In this study, artificial neural networks (ANN) are implemented as a new tool, with a focus on building up ANN architectures for BCS estimation. An Artificial Neural Network (ANN) model can be constructed by adjusting four modeling factors: hidden neuron numbers, epochs, number of modeling cycles, and number of data points. The four factors interact with each other to influence model accuracy and can be optimized by minimizing model's Mean Squared Error (MSE). Using both data from the literature and "synthetic" data based on the McKee equation, we find that model estimation accuracy remains limited due to the uncertainty in both the input parameters and the ANN process itself. The population size to build an ANN model has been identified based on different data sets. This study provides a methodology guide for future research exploring the applicability of ANN to address problems and answer questions in the corrugated industry.
This paper discusses transformation of the US population census since 1990 and its future prospects by mentioning the 2000 census experience and the 2010 census plans. First, it examines the recommendations written for the 2000 census by the Committee on National Statistics, National Research Council, such as introduction of statistical estimation, response rate improvement, long form improvement, adjustment in differential undercount by race/ethnicity, alternative census methods, collection of small-area statistics in non-census years, and census frame enhancement, and describes how the US Supreme Court decision of 1998 led the Census Bureau to fail in conducting the US version of One Number Census which uses statistical estimation by matching actual enumerations from the Census main survey and post-enumeration survey. Second, it examines one key element of the 2010 U. S. census, say, the separation of long form from short form and describes the main features of American Community Survey, a rolling census which replaces long-form component of the traditional US "Decennial Census" Another element is MAF/TIGER Enhancement Program which aims to improve enumeration accuracy in the traditional short-form census and help the Census Bureau introduce a mobile computer system as part of high-tech census operation. In this paper, it is pointed out that the separation of long form from short form is not an accidental one which results from the US Supreme Court decision, but the Census Bureau at this time in 2008 worries about the accuracy of enumeration because it has failed to develop a mobile computer system and will have to canvass 115 million households by paper and pencil by hiring 600 thousand temporary census workers.
The impact of the next influenza pandemic is difficult to predict. It is dependent on how virulent the virus is, how rapidly it spreads from population to population, and the effectiveness of prevention and response efforts. Despite the uncertainty about the magnitude of the next pandemic, estimates of the health and economic impact remain important to aid public health policy decisions and guide pandemic planning for health and emergency sectors. Planning ahead in preparation for an influenza pandemic, with its potentially very high morbidity and mortality rates, is essential for hospital administrators and public health officials. The estimat ion of pandemic impact is based on the previous pandemics- we had experienced at least 3 pandemics in 20th century. But the epidemiologi cal characteristics - ie, start season, the impact of 1st wave, pathogenicity and virulence of the viruses and the primary victims of population were quite different from one another. I reviewed methodology for estimation and modelling of pandemic impact and described some nations's results using them in their national preparedness plans. And then I showed the estimates of pandemic influenza impact in Korea with FluSurge and FluAid. And, I described the results of pandemic modelling with parameters of 1918 pandemic for the shake of education and training of the first-line responder health officials to the epidemics. In preparing influenza pandemics, the simulation and modelling are the keys to reduce the uncertainty of the future and to make proper policies to manage and control the pandemics.

The impact of global warming on the south Asian summer monsoon is of critical importance for the large population of this region. This study aims to investigate the future changes of the precipitation extremes during pre-monsoon and monsoon, across this region in a more organized regional structure. The study area is divided into six major divisions based on the Köppen-Geiger's climate structure and 10 sub-divisions considering the geographical locations. The future changes of extreme precipitation indices are analyzed for each zone separately using five indices from ETCCDI (Expert Team on Climate Change Detection and Indices); R10mm, Rx1day, Rx5day, R95pTOT and PRCPTOT. 10 global climate model (GCM) outputs from the latest CMIP6 under four combinations of SSP-RCP scenarios (SSP1-2.6, SSP2-4.5, SSP3-7.0, and SSP5-8.5) are used. The GCMs are bias corrected using nonparametric quantile transformation based on the smoothing spline method. The future period is divided into near future (2031-2065) and far future (2066-2100) and then the changes are compared based on the historical period (1980-2014). The analysis is carried out separately for pre-monsoon (March, April, May) and monsoon (June, July, August, September). The methodology used to compare the changes is probability distribution functions (PDF). Kernel density estimation is used to plot the PDFs. For this study we did not use a multi-model ensemble output and the changes in each extreme precipitation index are analyzed GCM wise. From the results it can be observed that the performance of the GCMs vary depending on the sub-zone as well as on the precipitation index. Final conclusions are made by removing the poor performing GCMs and by analyzing the overall changes in the PDFs of the remaining GCMs.
Background: PM2.5 pollution has been a persistent problem in South Korea, with concentrations consistently exceeding World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines. The aging of the population in the country further exacerbates the health impacts of PM2.5 since older adults are more susceptible to the adverse effects of air pollution. Objectives: This study aims to evaluate how the health impact (premature death) due to long-term exposure to PM2.5 in South Korea could change in the future according to the trend of change in the country's population structure. Methods: The study employs a relative risk function, which accounts for age-specific relative risks, to assess the changes in premature deaths by age and region at the average annual PM2.5 concentration for 2022 and at PM2.5 concentration improvement levels. Premature deaths were estimated using the Global Exposure Mortality Model (GEMM). Results: The findings indicate that the increase in premature deaths resulting from the projected population structure changes up to 2050 would significantly outweigh the health benefits (reduction in premature deaths) compared to 2012. This is primarily attributed to the rising number of premature deaths among the elderly due to population aging. Furthermore, the study suggests that the effectiveness of the current domestic PM2.5 standard would be halved by 2050 due to the increasing impact of population aging on PM2.5-related mortality. Conclusions: The study highlights the importance of considering trends in population structure when evaluating the health benefits of air pollution reduction measures. By comparing and evaluating the health benefits in reflection of changes in population structure to the predicted PM2.5 concentration improvements at the provincial level, a more comprehensive assessment of regional air quality management strategies can be achieved.
In Korea, most studies have used the conventional Wolfbein and Wool method, which cannot be applied to women's work-life table because of bimodality and/or M curve of female labor force participation. The increment/decrement work-life table method, however, is equally applicable to both men and women, but requires individual data on employment transition. This paper demonstrates that the Garfinkle-Pollard method is the same as the increment/decrement work-life table method developed by Hoem, Schoen and Woodrow and adopted by BLS. The merit of Garfinkle-Pollard method is to produce work-life table using labor force participation rate without individual employment transition. This paper applies the Garfinkle-Pollard methods to the estimation and projection of work-life of Korean labor force for the period of 2000-2050, using the abridged life tables provided by Korean National Statistical Office and a projection of labor force participation rates. The work-life expectancy at 65 is 5.8 years for men and 4.1 years for women in 2000, and it increased to 7.7 years for men and 5.1 years in 2050. However, differences in work-life expectancy are found depending on the data processing of elderly labor force participation and mortality assumption. Detailed data on elderly labor force participation and further study on future mortality are required to estimate and project more accurate work-life expectancy.
Pyeongtaek·Dangjin port handles the largest volume of finished vehicles in Korea, including more than 95% of imported cars. However, since the volume of imported cars has been stagnant since 2015, officials planning to invest in port development or automobile-related industries must make new forecasts. Economic variables such as the GDP often have been used in predicting automobile volume, but prior research showed that the impact of these economic variables on automobile volume I has been gradually decreasing in developed countries. These variables remain important predictors, however, in developing countries that experience rapid economic growth. In this study, predicting the volume of imported passenger cars at Pyeongtaek·Dangjin port, the decreasing Korean population was a major factor we considered. Our forecast showed that the volume of imported passenger cars at Pyeongtaek·Dangjin port will gradually decrease -by 2021. The Mean Absolute Percentage Error (MAPE) verification was performed to measure the accuracy of the predicted results, and the scenario analysis was performed on the share of imported passenger cars.
In this study we analyse how the tobacco prices have an effect on the national health. The level of tobacco price will fluctuate its consumers demand and eventually affect the national health status. We estimate tobacco consumption function as well as households'demand system in which tobacco and health expenditure functions are included. Demand elasticities are estimated and evaluated in order to find future policies to improve the national health by controlling the national tobacco consumption There are two econometric approaches app1ied in this study. The lent tobacco demand analysis method is mm tobacco consumption function model. Using national indices of tobacco price, tobacco consumption and other related variables, tobacco consumption function is estimated. The other is micro demand system analysis by using Korean urban households expenditure data during the period of 1991 to 1999. The own price elasticity which is estimated from national tobacco demand per capita is -0.19 for all people and -0.176 for the adults over 18, which means 100% price increase will cause decease of tobacco demand at 19% and 17.6% per each The cross vice elasticity which is estimated between tobacco and health expenditure of urban households demand system is -0.2328, which implies 100% of tobacco price increase will decrease 23.28% of health expenditure. The low price elasticities imply that tobacco price increase will increase total tobacco sales volume. 100% of tobacco price increase will bring about 79% increase of total tobacco sales volume according to our scenario. Korea's tobacco demand is negatively responsive to fluctuations in its price. The health expenditure is also negatively relatedto the tobacco price fluctuation. These empirical outputs could be utilized as the basis of government's tax policy to control national tobacco consumption in the future.

Local governments are establishing their own greenhouse gas reduction goal and are playing a important role to respond to climatic changes. However, there are difficulties in quantitative analyses such as estimation of future greenhouse gas emission and computation of reduction potential, which are procedures required to establish mid to long term strategies to realize of low carbon society by each local governments. Also, reduction measures must reflect characteristics of each local government, since the reduction power of each local government can differ according to characteristics of each. In order to establish strategies that reflect characteristics of local governments, types of greenhouse gas emission from cities were classified largely into residential city, commercial city, residential commercial city, agriculture and fishery city, convergence city, and industrial city. As a result of analyzing basic unit of greenhouse gas emission by local government during 2007 in terms of per population, household and GRDP based on the type classification, significant results were deduced for each type. To manage the amount of the national greenhouse gas, reduction measures should be focused on the local governments that emits more than the average of each type's GHG emission.
