Tractive forces by flowing water and ship generated waves are items that affect the stability of the low flow revetments among various external forces exerting on those revetments. Bank revetment stability by these external forces is analysed in this study. The study area is the section of the test construction area changing the artificial revetments to ecological revetments in Han river. Tractive forces are computed using the calculated flow velocity using RMA-2 model. The stability is analyzed comparing the calculated tractive forces with permissible tractive forces of the revetments in the study area. The calculated tractive forces at section number 93 is higher than permissible tractive forces in that section, so the section is estimated hydraulically unstable. The calculated tractive forces for the storm of 10th August 2007 are small compared to the permissible tractive forces in all sections. The sections are considered to be hydraulically stable, but have been eroded in some parts. The reason for the erosion is considered to have insufficient time for the plants taking root, and be exerted composite forces such as forces by ship generated waves. Ship generated waves by the excursion boats and small boats called river taxi was calculated. Wave forces by these calculated waves are computed and compared with the supporting forces of the revetment material. The external forces exerted by the ships in Han River on the revetments is very little compared with the permissible supporting forces of the revetments, so the revetments are estimated hydraulically stable. But considering the composite forces are exerted simultaneously, the stability consideration should include these composite forces.

Incheon Bay has a suitable condition for tidal power generation due to the high tidal range by topographical effect. Therefore a study on the technology development for tidal energy utilization has been promoted since 2006. It is needed to deduce optimal alternatives to determine the suitable location of facilities for tidal power generation and to reduce the environmental damage from development. In order to carry out efficiently this mission, spatial information system is essential to manage and use various spacial elements related to the development and conservation. In this study, for the development of tidal energy, spatial data could be defined as three kinds of dataset. Fundamental dataset is defined as spatial data such as tide, tidal current, wave, erosion and sedimentation. Framework dataset is composed of topographical map, facility map and bathymetry. The reference dataset is composed of marine ecology and environment having the characteristics of thematic map. This study is mainly aimed at establishing methodology of conceptual spatial data modeling classifying as essential data model and optional data model through the definition of the components of spatial data.
The purpose of this study is to estimate the sediment volume concentration of the liquified-solid mixture which is included fine sediment fractions, according to the variance of the channel slope and the water supply. The numerical model was performed by using the Finite Differential Element Method (FDM) based on the equation for the mass conservation, momentum conservation and the equation of coarse sediment an fine sediment. In comparison of varying the channel slope, the deeper the channel slope, the inflection point of the sediment concentration was occurred rapidly. In comparison of variance of the water supply, as the water supply increases fluctuation with high sediment concentration. In this situation, debris flow changes to the turbulent flow and the sediment becomes to be floated. In comparison varying the length paved saturated sediment, the longer the length, the high concentration of sediment occurred, for the safety of the slope it is needed to check the possibility of the erosion in the slope by debris flow. The results of this study will provide useful information in predicting of the disaster by the liquified-solid mixture and in prevention of the debris flow with various the slope in the mountain side.

Bathymetric changes were studied in the southern sea off the Jinwoo-do Island, which is one of the deltaic barrier islands surrounding the Nakddong river estuary. In this study, 16 bathymetry data sets were obtained from June 2006 to April 2015. Two narrow channels, the one lying between Jinwoo-do and Shinja-do, and the other one lying between Nulcha-do and Jinwoo-do extended into the eastern and western parts of the study area, respectively. The eastern extension of the channel contained a passage of mixed estuarine waters of seawater and river water discharged from the Nakdong river barrier and the west Nakdong River. The western channel connected the Nakdong River estuary with the Busan New Port via a connecting pier. Total volumetric changes of sediments in study area and discharge flow of the Nakdong river barrier were analyzed. Bottom topographical changes occurred mainly in the eastern extension of the channel. These changes were initially characterized by gradual erosion or deposition followed by rapid restoration. The total volume of sediment gradually increased from June 2006 to March 2013, but experienced a sudden decrease in October 2013 because of typhoon Danas. Few fluctuations were observed from October 2013 to April 2015. Analysis of the cross-sectional bathymetry of the north-south direction showed that the deepest point of the eastern channel moved 100-130 m westward and 200 m northward between June 2006 and April 2015.
Objectives : The aim of this study was to evaluate the pH and buffering capacity in some commercial fermented milks in Korea. Methods : The study was carried ouf from June to August, 2012. In 35 liquid type, 79 condense-stirred type and 71 condense-drink type fermented milks, available on the market, pH and buffering capacity were measured. Titration(with NaOH) was used to determine the buffering effect of each fermented milk. They were titrated with 1 M sodium hydroxide, added in 0.1 milliliters increments, until the pH reached about 5.5 and 7.0. Results : The average pH of tested fermented milks was $4.08{\pm}0.27$. The average pH values of fermented milks were $3.64{\pm}0.22$ in liquid type, $4.14{\pm}0.12$ in condense-stirred type, and $4.22{\pm}0.17$ condense-drink type. The average buffering capacity (pH 5.5) of tested fermented milk was $2.40{\pm}0.54$. The average buffering capacity (pH 5.5) of liquid type fermented milk was $2.37{\pm}0.33$, condense-stirred type fermented milk was $2.77{\pm}0.46$ and condense-drink type fermented milk was $2.01{\pm}0.42$. The average buffering capacity (pH 7.0) of tested fermented milks was $4.00{\pm}0.87$. The average buffering capacity (pH 7.0) of liquid type fermented milk was $3.11{\pm}0.36$, condense-stirred type fermented milk was $4.78{\pm}0.55$ and condense-drink type fermented milk was $3.58{\pm}0.59$. Conclusions : The average pH of tested fermented milks in this study was lower than pH 4.5. The type of fermented milks was an important factor for selection of fermented milk which is related with enamel erosion.
The earth's crust is unceasingly undergoing deformations because of the forces acting upon it. The relationship between the tectonic forces and the resulting deformations are found from the states of stresses in the earth's crust induced by these forces. The study has been attempted to analyze the deformations of the overlying sedimentary layers, which are deformed by the magma intrusion along its lower boundary. The elastic model is constructed to analyze the geologic structures, by means of the theory of elasticity, and then the appropriate boundary conditions are given. The solution of the Airy stress function which satisfies the given boundary conditions is derived from the analytic method. The internal stress distributions of the deformed elastic model layer are portrayed by principal stress trajetories, and then the corresponding potential faults and joints systems are predicted from the Coulomb-Mohr failure criterion. The internal displacement distributions are shown by the calculated displacement components vectors, namely horizontal, vertical and net components. Results of the numerical calculations show the developments of some geologic structures as follows; (1) one set of shear joints and or two sets of shear joints which are oppisite directions, and one set of extension joints parallel to the ${\sigma}_1$ direction, (2) one set of high angle thrusts and normal faults, (3) symmetric fold; both limbs are dipping in opposite direction with low angle. The field work at the Wall-A San area, located near Jinju City, in southern Korea, had accomplished to compare the field structures with the predicted ones. The results of the comparison exhibits the developments of joint and fault systems satisfactorily consistent with each others. But the area does not show any type of folding, in spite of the intrusion of a granodiorite massif, this fact is one of the important features of the whole Kyungsang sedimentary basins of Mesozoic age distributed at the south-eastern parts of Korea. For this reason, it is thought that the magma intrusion had occurred with extremly low pressure. The geologic structures have been modified by the erosion and weathering throughout the geologic time, and the conditions of the sedimentary layers (width, thickness and radius of magma) are not the same as before, being intruded by the magma. To enlighten this, it is preferable to study these geologic structures with analyses of various types of rheological models.

Revetments help protect levee slopes from erosion. If the design of the revetment is not appropriate, the levee may collapse as a result of scouring due to the strong flow velocity and tractive force. Therefore, when designing a revetment, it is very important to calculate the representative velocity. However, the average velocity and depth calculated by 1-D varied flow analysis are generally applied to the design, which do not reflect the increase in velocity caused by the free and force vortex. Therefore, it is necessary to correct the representative velocity in order to ensure the stability of the revetment in a meandering channel. In this study, the applicability of the method of calculating the representative velocity considering the curve and scour was studied (by comparing it with) the average and maximum velocities determined by numerical simulation. The representative velocity corrected for the effect of the curve and scour and the maximum velocity calculated by the numerical simulation were found to match quite well. In addition, the riprap size of the gabion in the meandering and straight channels were compared by applying them to the conventional design formulas. In the future, it is necessary to perform additional numerical simulations for various rivers with different characteristics, in order to propose a method of designing a suitable revetment for Korean characteristics. At this time, the results of this study are expected to be able to be used as basic data.

In Incheon bay, mass mortalities of Manila clam associated with winter storms have been reported. In the present study we have monitored pathologic condition of the clams stranded on the tidal flats by the winter storms occurred in late March to early April in 2007. The field surveyed indicated that mortality of the Manila clam in the study areas ranged 10-15%. Condition index, a ratio of tissue weight to the shell weight, of the stranded clams was significantly lower than the non-stranded normal clams collected from the same locations (p < 0.05), indicating that the stranded clams were comparatively in poor physiological condition. Perkinsus olseni, the protozoan parasite was observed most of clams used in the analysis and the infection prevalence ranged 77-90%. The infection intensity of P. olseni determined using Ray's fluid thioglycollate medium (RFTM) cultivation and the 2M NaOH digestion assay indicated that the clams collected during late March and early April in 2007 involved 67,182-1,124,727 P. olseni cells/g tissue. The infection intensity of clams from Gung-Pyeung was significantly higher than the intensities observed from Dae-Bu and Young-Heung (p < 0.05). No clear correlation was found between the infection intensities of P. olseni in the non-stranded normal clams and the stranded clams. The stranded Manila clams were also infected with trematode parasite with the prevalence ranged 5 (Young-Heung) to 12.5% (Dae-Bu). The trematode-infected clams exhibited castrated follicles in the gonad, a typical sign of trematode infection. It was believed that mass mortality of Manila clam observed in this study was associated with the poor physiological condition as indicated by CI, although impacts of the parasite infection cannot be ruled out.
This study estimates geomorphological processes of fluvial terraces by uplifts and bedrock features, by the analyses of topography, distribution, formation age and incision rate of fluvial terraces using Gwang-cheon River in Uljin, Namdae-cheon River in Pyeonghae and Osip-cheon River in Yeongdeok located in the southern Taebaek Mountain Range. The tectonic and climatic terraces I in the upper reaches of Gwang-cheon River with an altitude from riverbed of 9~12m indicate the formation age of MIS 2 with a incision rate of 0.40m/ka. However, the tectonic and climatic terraces I in the upper reaches of Osip-cheon River with an altitude from riverbed of 7~10m show the formation age of MIS 3 with an incision rate of 0.10m/ka. These results suggest that the uplift rate in the Gwang-cheon River basin is likely to be higher than that in the Osip-cheon River basin. Unlike the lower reaches of Osip-cheon River, the thalassostatic terraces are not found in the lower reaches of Gwang-cheon River, because the basin has low maintainable ability of landforms in river valley due to high uplift rate and bedrock properties resistant to weathering and erosion. On the other hand, the lowest tectonic and climatic terraces in the study areas indicate different formative ages and the terraces during the cooling stage in interglacial as well as during interstadial are also found. Therefore, this study suggests that chronological method for fluvial terrace by the previous developmental model of climatic terrace should be reconsidered.

The stage-discharge relation curve(rating curve) is the basic formula in hydrologic analysis. It plays an important role in converting to the discharge from available flood water level data including the daily mean stage. However, the river induces a cross section change at the gauging station because of the composed material of the river bed and three processes of the stream flow; i.e., erosion, transportation, and sedimentation. Rating curve has to be revised according to the temporal variation of the river bed due to the those factors. In this study, the basic rating curve is developed with respect to the current river bed to convert the existing rating curves and also to seize the hydraulic and geometric characteristics for the temporal variation of the river bed, relationships among the basic rating curve and the existing rating curves, water level, cross sectional area, and flow velocity are analyzed. Indogyo station, which is not only the key station of the Han river but also greatly changed the river bed after completion of the Han river development plan during the year 1983 to 1986, was chosen for the study. In this study, the river bed is assumed in a dynamic equilibrium condition. The basic rating curve is developed using hydrologic data of the physical year of 1987. For a given discharge, relationships for conversion of previous data, stage and velocity, the current one are formulated. To verify the usefulness of the relationships, stage-cross sectional area and stage velocity formula are also derived. Both hydrologic method using continuity equation and statistical method by the rating curve are compared and checked, then the validation of the both are positively shown.
