The equivalent source method(ESM) is used for the calculation of the internal pressure field for an enclosure which can have arbitrary boundary conditions and may include internal objects which scatter the sound field. The advantage of using ESM is that it requires relatively low computing cost and is easy to model the internal diffracting objects. In the ESM modelling, some of the equivalent positions are chosen to be the same as the first order images of the source inside the enclosure, some are positioned on a spherical surface some distance outside the enclosure. The normal velocity on the surfaces of the enclosure walls is evaluated at a larger number of positions than there are equivalent sources. The sum of the squared difference between this velocity and the expected is minimized by adjusting the strength of the equivalent sources. This study is on the optimal equivalent source positions, the far field sources. Typically, the far field sources are evenly distributed on a surface of a virtual sphere which is centered at the enclosure with a sufficiently large radius. In this study, optimal far field source locations are searched using simulated annealing method and simulation results showed that optimally located sources gave better accuracy even with a smaller number of far field sources.

This paper is to present the strength estimation of the cement mortar incorporating 20% of fly ash by equivalent age method. ASTM C 1074 was applied to achieve apparent activation energy($E_a$). Cement mortar was cured at the temperature of $5^{\circ}C$, $20^{\circ}C$ and $35^{\circ}C$ respectively to measure the setting time and compressive strength at designed age. According to test results, it is found that an increase in curing temperature resulted in an acceleration of setting time. $E_a$ was achieved to 34.75 KJ/mol. It was also found that by estimating strength development with Plowman and Gompertz model, good agreement between calculated value and measured one was achieved.

A leaf spring, especially the longitudinal type is liable and persistent element in automotive suspension system. In the present scenario the composite materials are widely used in the automobile industries has shown a great interest in the replacement of steel spring due to high strength by weight ratio. Previous investigations focused on stresses and displacement analysis of single leaf spring for different materials. The present work aims to design and analysis of leaf spring for two different cases by considering the Young's modulus to yield strength ratio. In the first case the analysis deals with the design and analysis of a single cantilever solid triangle beam which is an equivalent beam of a spring with three leaves having uniform strength. In the second case a 3-beams of rectangular cross section has been considered which is equivalent to a spring with three leaves. The analysis was carried out based on contact mechanics approach. The results were compared, that the fiberglass composite leaf spring is suitable for high loading capacity, reliability and efficiency.
Steel angles are widely used in roof trusses as web and chord members and in lattice towers. Very often angle members are connected eccentrically. As a result, not only an angle member is under an axial force, but it is also subject to a pair of end eccentric moments. Moreover, the connection at each end provides some fixity so neither pinned nor the fixed end represents the reality. Many national design codes allow for the effects due to eccentricities by modifying the slenderness ratio and reducing the compressive strength of the member. However, in practice, it is difficult to determine accurately the effective length. The concept behind this method is inconsistent with strength design of members of other cross-sectional types such as I or box sections of which the buckling strength is controlled by the Perry constant or the initial imperfection parameters. This paper proposes a method for design of angle frames and trusses by the second-order analysis. The equivalent initial imperfection-to-length ratios for equal and unequal angles to compensate the negligence of initial curvatures, load eccentricities and residual stresses are determined in this paper. From the obtained results, the values of imperfection-to-length ratios are suggested for design and analysis of angle steel trusses allowing for member buckling strength based on the Perry-Robertson formula.

In this study, for the evaluation of the static and fatigue joining strength of the joint, the geometry of the cross-tension specimen was adopted. The specimens were produced with optimal joining force and fatigue life of the clinch joint specimens was evaluated. The material selected for use in this study was cold rolled mild steel (SPCC) with a thickness of 0.8 mm. The maximum tensile load was 708 N for the specimen with single point. The fatigue endurance limit (=42.6 N) per point approached to 6% of the maximum tensile strength at a load ratio of 0.1, suggesting that the joints are vulnerable to cross-tension loading during fatigue. Compared to equivalent stress and maximum principal stress, the SWT fatigue parameter and equivalent strain can properly predict the current experimental fatigue life. The SWT parameter can be expressed as $SWT=2497.5N^{-0.552)_f$.

As a result of strength test on BFS concrete, those mixed with 30% and 50% of BFS8000, respectively, showed higher or equivalent strength compare to OPC. As a result of test of chloride penetration on BFS, diffusion coefficients of concrete mixed with 30% FA4000 and FA5000, respectively, showed to restrain average 6.5% of diffusion coefficient compared to OPC. And in case of BFS concrete, those mixed with BFS6000 and BFS8000, restrained diffusion of chloride ions 253% and 336%, respectively, compared to OPC. Therefore, Mixing 50% of BFS was most efficient in order to maximize restraint of chloride penetration according to metathesis of large amount. In this study, when mixing BFS to concrete for long-run durability and restraint against chloride penetration, for BFS, as fineness was higher and mixing it to concrete with less or equivalent 50% of replacement rate, there were results of higher strength compared to OPC and more efficient restraint of chloride ions.
The small punch creep (SPC) test has recently received much attention as a new alternative to the conventional uniaxial creep test because it needs only a miniature-sized specimen directly detached from an operating system or component without any serious sampling damages. However, it is difficult to obtain the equivalent uniaxial creep data directly from the SPC data. As a specimen is deformed by a punch in the SPC test, the test result is sensitive to the friction between them. Finite element analyses with various friction coefficients was performed and showed a tendency of increased SPC life with an increased friction coefficient. The necking position predicted by the SPC simulation with a proper friction coefficient showed good agreement with that observed from the real SPC test. Finally, a noble method to convert the SPC load and displacement rate into the equivalent uniaxial creep stress and strain rate, respectively, was established in this study.
The strength development of concrete is influenced by temperature and cement type which greatly affect hydration degree of cement. There is not pertinent concrete strength management methods for estimating the in-place strength of concrete. One such method is the maturity concept. The maturity concept is based on the fact that concrete gains strength with time as a result of the cement hydration and, thus the rate of hydration, as in any chemical reaction, depends primarily on the concrete temperature during hydration. Thus, the strength of concrete is function of its time-temperature history. This goals of the present study are to investigate a relationship between strength of high-fluidity concrete and maturity that is expressed as a function of an integral of the curing period and temperature, predict strength of concrete.

Efficient finite element method has been introduced for metallic sandwich plates subject to 3-point bending. A full model 3-point bending FE-analysis shows that plastic behavior of inner structures appears only at the load point. So, Unit structures of sandwich plates are defined to numerically calculate the bending stiffness with recurrent boundary condition of pure bending. And then equivalent models with same bending stiffness and strength of full models are designed analytically. It is demonstrated that results of both models are almost same and FE analysis method with equivalent models can reduce analysis time effectively.

Masonry-infilled walls have been used in reinforced concrete(RC) frame structures as interior and exterior partition walls. Since these walls are considered as nonstructural elements, they were only considered as additional mass. However, infill walls tend to interact with the structure's overall strength, rigidity, and energy dissipation. Infill walls have been analyzed by finite element method or transposed as equivalent strut model. The equivalent strut model is a typical method to evaluate masonry-infilled structure to avoid the burden of complex finite element model. This study compares different strut models to identify their properties and applicability with regard to the characteristics of the structure and various material models.
