The acoustic power reduction methods of the vibrating structures are valid to design the quite structure. To calculate the acoustic power, the dynamic responses have to be determined. It is not easy to analyse the structure composed of the corrugated panels. Because of the structural complexity and the many analysing times. To make up for these defects, the equivalent orthogonal panel is presented. Also the acoustic power prediction method of the vibrating structures is proposed. As examples, the equivalent material properties of the corrugated plates are obtained and the acoustic powers of the floor structure are calculated at several frequency regions for KHST.
Recent years, direct displacement-based design (DDBD) procedure is proposed for the design of un-bonded posttensioned (UPT) concrete wall systems. In the DDBD procedure, the determination of the equivalent viscous damping (EVD) ratio is critical since it would influence the strength demand of the UPT wall systems. Nevertheless, the influence of EVD ratio determination of the UPT wall systems were not thoroughly evaluated. This study was aimed to investigate the influence of different EVD ratio determinations on the DDBD procedure of UPT wall systems. Case study structures with four, twelve and twenty storeys have been designed with DDBD procedure considering different EVD ratio determinations. Nonlinear time history analysis was performed to validate the design results of those UPT wall systems. And the simulation results showed that the global responses of the case study structures were influenced by the EVD ratio determination.
Purpose. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the premature infants' responses to infant massage (tactile and kinesthetic stimulation). These responses measured by weight, physiological (vagal tone, heart rate, oxygen saturation) and behavioral responses (behavioral states, motor activities, and behavioral distress). Methods. This study was conducted using an equivalent control pretest-posttest design. The sample was divided into two groups of 13 infants with gestational age less than 36 weeks at birth, birth weight less than 2000g, and no congenital anomalies. The experimental group received the massage intervention twice daily for 10 days. The data were collected for 10 minutes prior to and 10 minutes after the massage. Results. The vagal tone was significantly higher after massage than before massage in the experimental group, while no change in the control group. The experimental group had significantly higher scores for awake state and motor activity than the control group. Significantly greater awake state, more fidgeting or crying, and increased motor activity were reported after massage than before massage. Conclusions. The results of this study showed that massage therapy might enhance optimal physiological responses and behavioral organization of premature infants. Nursing staff in the NICU can use massage to promote the infant's capability to respond positively to his environment and to provide developmental support for healthy premature infants.
This study is a preliminary investigation into improving the environmental quality of schools. The purpose was to clarify the present conditions and reasons of noise in elementary schools located near airports and roads by noise level measurements and questionnaire surveys of subjective responses. fold measurements on equivalent and instantaneous noise levels, indoor and outdoor, were carried out in 3 schools during the periods 11th~ 13th of February and 2nd~ 7th of July,2003. The respondents were 94 teachers working in the 3 schools. The results were as follows. 1) Indoor noise levels of the 3 schools were 36.g~73 dB(A) in winter, and 46.9~ 91 dB(A) in summer. These values were higher than the indoor noise standard of 50 dB(A), except for the average of equivalent noise levels in winter.2) Outdoor noise levels of the schools were 41.1 ~ 101 dB(A) in winter, and 52.4~ 102 dB(A) in summer. These values were generally inappropriate relative to the standard for environmental noise of 65 dB(A). 3) The respondents showed relatively non- positive responses during school hours for interruptions by environmental noise.4) The frequently checked types of environmental noise of the schools were 'airplane noise','surrounding facilities', and 'traffic noise'. The frequently checked types of damage by environmental noise were 'Interrupting school hours' and 'Interrupting business'.
This paper presents the investigation of the stochastic responses of seismically isolated bridges subjected to spatially varying earthquake ground motions including incoherence, wave-passage and site-response effects. The incoherence effect is examined by considering Harichandran and Vanmarcke coherency model. The effect of the wave-passage is dealt with various wave velocities in the response analysis. Homogeneous firm, medium and soft soil conditions are selected for considering the site-response effect where the bridge supports are constructed. The ground motion is described by filtered white noise and applied to each support points. For seismic isolation of the bridge, single and double concave friction pendulum bearings are used. Due to presence of friction on the concave surfaces of the isolation systems, the equation of motion of is non-linear. The non-linear equation of motion is solved by using equivalent linearization technique of non-linear stochastic analyses. Solutions obtained from the stochastic analyses of non-isolated and isolated bridges to spatially varying earthquake ground motions compared with each other for the special cases of the ground motion model. It is concluded that friction pendulum systems having single and double concave surfaces have important effects on the stochastic responses of bridges to spatially varying earthquake ground motions.
It is quite apparent that engineering concerns related to the influence of masonry infills on seismic behavior of reinforced concrete (RC) structures is likely to remain relevant in the long term, as infill walls maintain their functionalities in construction practice. Within this framework, the present paper mainly deals with the issue in terms of modal expansion of effective earthquake forces and the resultant modal responses. An adequate determination of spatial distribution of effective earthquake forces over the height of the building is highly essential for both seismic analysis and design. The possible influence of infill walls is investigated by means of modal analyses of two-, three-, and four-bay RC frames with a number of stories ranging from 3 to 8. Both uniformly and non-uniformly infilled frames are considered in numerical analyses, where infill walls are simulated by adopting the model of equivalent compression strut. Consequently, spatial distribution of effective earthquake forces, modal static base shear force response of frames, modal responses of story shears from external excitation vector and lateral floor displacements are obtained. It is found that, infill walls and their arrangement over the height of the frame structure affect the spatial distribution of modal inertia forces, as well as the considered response quantities. Moreover, the amount of influence varies in stories, but is not very dependent to bay number of frames.

All accurate and efficient antenna feed model is very important for computing GPR response using the FDTD method In literature, there are several feed models such as the equivalent network in angular-frequency domain, 1-D transmission-line cell, voltage boundary condition in time domain, etc. In this paper, theoretical relationship among the models is investigated. It is found that the above three models become equivalent when a short and lossless feed line can match with its connected transmitter receiver). In view of accuracy and efficiency of the simulation, the FDTD results according to the feed models arc compared with the measured data of the receiving responses for an actual GPR system.
This paper reports on the results of a parametric study, which examines the effects of varying aspect ratios on the dynamic response of cylindrical silos directly supported on the ground under earthquake loading. Previous research has shown that numerical models can provide considerably realistic simulations when it comes to the behavior of silos by using correct boundary conditions, appropriate element types and material models. To this end, a three dimensional numerical model, taking into account the bulk material-silo wall interaction, was produced by the ANSYS commercial program, which is in turn based on the finite element method. The results obtained from the numerical analysis are discussed comparatively in terms of dynamic material pressure, horizontal displacement, equivalent base shear force and equivalent bending moment responses for considered aspect ratios. The effects experienced because of the slenderness of the silo in regards to the seismic response were evaluated along with the effectiveness of the classification system proposed by Eurocode in evaluating the loads on the vertical walls. Results clearly show that slenderness directly affects the seismic response of such structures especially in terms of behavior and the magnitude of the responses. Furthermore the aspect ratio value of 2.0, given as a behavioral changing limit in the technical literature, can be used as a valid limit for seismic behavior.
The study aims to investigate the pounding that occurs between the isolator's ring and slider of isolated structures resulting from excessive seismic excitation, while considering soil-structure interaction. The dynamic responses and poundings of structures subjected a series seismic records were comparatively analyzed for three different soil types and fixed-base structures. A series of parametric studies were conducted to thoroughly discuss the effects of the impact displacement ratio, the FPB friction coefficient ratio, and the radius ratio on the structural dynamic response when considering impact and SSI. It was found that the pounding is extremely brief, with an exceptionally large pounding force generated by impact, resulting in significant acceleration pulse. The acceleration and inter-story shear force of the structure experiencing pounding were greater than those without considering pounding. Sudden changes in the inter-story shear force between the first and second floors of the structure were also observed. The dynamic response of structures in soft ground was significantly lower than that of structures in other ground conditions under the same conditions, regardless of the earthquake wave exciting the structure. When the structure is influenced by pulse-type earthquake records, its dynamic response exhibits a trend of first intensifying and then weakening as the equivalent radius ratio and friction coefficient ratio increase. However, it increases with an increase in the pounding displacement ratio, equivalent radius ratio, friction coefficient ratio, and displacement ratio when the structures are subjected to non-pulse-type seismic record.

This paper presents the power system application of a PWM base UPFC through EMTP simulation. A PWM base UPFC model is constructed and detailed switching-level simulation is performed using EMTP. The dynamic responses of UPFC are analyzed. Based on the simulation results, the appropriate equivalent impedances of UPFC voltage-source model which represent similar dynamics with PWM based UPFC are determined by optimization routine. This paper also analyzes the influence of the power system strength on the dynamic responses of UPFC. Finally this paper shows that the performance of UPFC is improved by control parameter tuning when UPFC is installed to weak power system.
