In this paper, we propose two effective energy feature normalization methods for robust speech recognition in noisy environments. In the first method, we estimate the noise energy and remove it from the noisy speech energy. In the second method, we propose a modified algorithm for the Log-energy Dynamic Range Normalization (ERN) method. In the ERN method, the log energy of the training data in a clean environment is transformed into the log energy in noisy environments. If the minimum log energy of the test data is outside of a pre-defined range, the log energy of the test data is also transformed. Since the ERN method has several weaknesses, we propose a modified transform scheme designed to reduce the residual mismatch that it produces. In the evaluation conducted on the Aurora2.0 database, we obtained a significant performance improvement.
As lighting energy consumption in buildings occupies high ratio, technical researches to solve it have been constantly carried out. However, basic studies on light environment performance evaluation is actually deficient and only at a level of a simple illumination monitoring. Thus, this study has suggest a light environment energy performance evaluation based on actual residence environments to allow setting lighting interoperation and user required illumination. Conclusions from the study are as follows: 1) As the performance evaluation suggested by this study has not only derived lighting energy usage as well as monitored simple indoor illumination distribution, it is quantitative and allows derivation of visual results. 2) The performance evaluation suggested by this study allows inputs of user required illumination through the performance evaluation server, which is able to support for performance evaluations for various works and users. 3) This study has verified validity of the performance evaluation method by analyzing results of lighting energy reduction by executing performance evaluation on changes of light shelf that is a natural lighting system through the suggested performance evaluation method. This study is significant from a viewpoint that it has suggested a quantitative performance evaluation method on the basis of actual residence environments. Those researches concerned on the energy performance evaluation should be constantly progressed from an aspect that they are another solution of the energy problems.
Currently, Japan is undertaking a nationwide project to measure and map radioactive contamination around Fukushima, as part of the efforts to restore normalcy following the nuclear accident. The Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA) manages the Fukushima Environmental Safety Center, located approximately 20 km north of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant in Minamisōma City, Fukushima Prefecture. In collaboration with the JAEA, this study involved conducting comparison experiments and analyses with radiation detectors in high radiation environments, a challenging task in Korean environments. Environmental radiation surveys were conducted using three types of detectors: CZT, NaI(Tl), and LaBr3(Ce), across two contaminated areas. Dose rate values were converted using dose rate conversion factors for each detector type, and dose rate maps were subsequently created and compared. The detectors yielded similar results, demonstrating their feasibility and reliability in high radiation environments. The findings of this study are expected to be a crucial reference for enhancing the verification and supplementation of procedures and methods in future radiation measurements and mobile surveys in high-radiation environments, using these three types of radiation instruments.
Recently proposed control scheme for a stable teleoperation, which was based on two-port time-domain passivity approach[21], has been successful for a contact with high stiffness environments. However, we found several conservatisms during the contact with deformable environments and unconstrained motion. The two-port time-domain passivity controller was excessively dissipating energy even though it was not necessary for some cases of an unconstrained motion and soft contact. The main reason of those conservatisms was on the fact that the two-port time-domain passivity controller was activated without considering the amount of energy dissipation at the master and slave manipulators. Especially, the exclusion of the slave manipulator from the two-port was the dominant reason of the conservatisms. In this paper, we consider the amount of energy dissipation at slave manipulator for designing the time-domain passivity observer and controller. The measured interaction force between slave manipulator and environment allow the time-domain passivity observer to include the amount of energy dissipation at the slave manipulator. Based on the modified passivity observer, reference energy following method[24] is applied to satisfy the passivity condition in real-time. The feasibility of the developed methods is proved with experiments. Improved performance is obtained for an interaction with deformable environments and an unconstrained motion.
Airborne microorganisms, termed bioaerosols, are etiological agents of many respiratory and skin diseases. There are high demands of controlling the concentration of bioaerosols, specifically in indoor environments. Here, a new system for controlling indoor bioaerosols is designed and evaluated. An idea of a short time exposure to a thermal energy is used in the design of the equipment. The system was tested in laboratory environments. The experimental results show that the new system can reduce the concentration of viable bioaerosols of indoor laboratory environments.

We present a set of high-resolution 3D MHD simulations exploring the evolution of light, supersonic jets in cluster environments. We model sets of high- and low-Mach jets entering both uniform surroundings and King-type atmospheres and propagating distances more than 100 times the initial jet radius. Through complimentary analyses of synthetic observations and energy flow, we explore the detailed interactions between these jets and their environments. We find that jet cocoon morphology is strongly influenced by the structure of the ambient medium. Jets moving into uniform atmospheres have more pronounced backflow than their non-uniform counterparts, and this difference is clearly reflected by morphological differences in the synthetic observations. Additionally, synthetic observations illustrate differences in the appearances of terminal hotspots and the x-ray and radio correlations between the high- and low-Mach runs. Exploration of energy flow in these systems illustrates the general conversion of kinetic to thermal and magnetic energy in all of our simulations. Specifically, we examine conversion of energy type and the spatial transport of energy to the ambient medium. Determination of the evolution of the energy distribution in these objects will enhance our understanding of the role of AGN feedback in cluster environments.
Statistical Process Control (SPC) is recognized as one of the most important tool of quality control (QC), and is one research focus in order to implement SPC quickly and effectively using computer technology and network environments. This paper proposes the principle and topology of embedded SPC based on the Internet/lntranet, emphatically discusses the embedded data sampling block, embedded network interface and SPC strategy. An example of application is given.
In general, many IoT devices, including smart phones, use LTE, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth, and these communication modules generate a lot of energy consumption during periodic data transmission. This paper proposes a method of the data transmission mode change for improving energy efficiency in various communication environments that mobile devices may encounter. We propose an algorithm for setting the mode considering energy efficiency, data transmission performance and cost when the mobile device transmits data, and transmitting the data in an optimized manner according to the state of the mobile device. The proposed algorithm is implemented through experiments on energy efficiency for each communication module, and the scenario is used to verify how efficiently the proposed algorithm uses energy.
Recently proposed stable teleoperation control scheme, base on time domain passivity, is modified to remove several conservatisms. During unconstrained motion and contacting with soft and deformable environments, the two-port time domain passivity approach [21] was excessively dissipating energy even though it was stable without any energy dissipation. The main reason of this conservatism is on the fact that the time domain passivity controller does not include the external energy dissipation elements at the slave manipulator. The measured interaction force between slave and environment allow the time domain passivity observer to include the amount of energy dissipation of the slave manipulator to the monitored energy. With the modified passivity observer, reference energy following idea [24] is applied to satisfy the passivity condition. The feasibility of the developed methods is proved with experiments. Improved performance is obtained in unconstrained motion and contacting with a soft environment.
