The compressibility of clay has been expressed e-log p' graph. In natural clay, e-log p' graph are changed by deposition condition and chemical cementation as well as Atterberg limits, whereas in reconstituted clay, it is generally known that e-log p’ curve is varied with Atterberg limits. However, e-log p' graph is possible to change according to the reconstituting methods and test conditions. In this study, consolidation tests are performed as various test condition for reconstituted Busan clay. Test results show that the relationship e/$e_L$ and log p' is almost constant with $e_L$. And the compression index obtained from slurry method sample is larger than one obtained from kneading method sample. Intrinsic compression line (ICL) of Busan clay is identical with ICL suggested by Burland.
Vibrio parahaemolyticus was investigated for analysis of distribution and antibiotic susceptibility at the markets, Seoul in 2004. The average isolation rate was 26.8%(306/1,143) and the highest rate with 64.9% was obtained in August. The isolation rates from December to April was 0.0%. It is more effective to inoculate into the enrichment medium, alkaline pepton water by swabbing a sample with a cotton ball rather than pouring mixed sample. The isolation rates were from 24.4% to 37.1% in domestic samples and from 9.8% to 26.8% in imported ones. All of the isolates were resistent to ampicillin and ticarcillin and most of them were sensitive to chloramphenicol, tetracycline, nalidixic acid, amoxicillin, ceftriaxone, streptomycin, kanamycin, trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazol, ampicillin/sulbactam, ciprofloxacin.
Discrete Element Method (DEM) simulations were developed to investigate the effectiveness of geosynthetic reinforcement and the effectiveness of maintenance techniques performed on a simulated ballast bed subjected to dynamic loading. The results from four samples subjected each one to a total of 425 load cycles are presented: one unreinforced and unmaintained sample, one unmaintained but reinforced sample, one unreinforced sample subjected to maintenance in the form of stoneblowing after 200 load cycles, and one unreinforced sample subjected to maintenance in the form of tamping after 200 load cycles. The obtained values of permanent deformation as a function of the applied number of load cycles for the four cases are presented together allowing a comparison of the effectiveness of each technique. Moreover, snapshots of the simulated track sections are presented at different moments of the simulations. The simulations indicated that the geosynthetic reinforcement may not be beneficial for the analyzed case while stoneblowing was the most effective maintenance technique.
The objective of this study is to develop the water spraying which can effectively by applied to the control or suppression of the fugitive dust generated from the scrap metal handling area at the Port of Inchon. As a first step toward this goal, we carried out some preliminary analyses on the chemical composition, physical shape, and particle size distribution of the sample dust. Next, to quantitatively investigate the effect of adding surfactants to the spraying water on the wettability of the sample dust, the Standard Sink Test was carried out for four different surfactants and at six different concentrations using the surfactants considered in this study. Results of from the preliminary analysis indicated that the main chemical component consisting of the sample dust is Goethite(FeO(OH)) and that the particles smaller than 10 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ in geometric diameter occupy about 36% of the sample dust in mass. This result implies that the fugitive dust generated from the scrap metal handling area at the Port of Inchon should affect the environment nearby more than we have expected. This is because of relatively large mass percentage of the small metal particles less than 10${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ in geometric diameter, what we may call respirable particles. As for the results of the Standard Sink Test, higher surfactant concentration tends to result in the higher wettability of the sample dust for the surfactants considered in this study, which in turn ensures the high particle collection efficiency of the droplets generated from the water spraying system. Based upon this preliminary results, studies to develop more sophisticated scaled model for dynamic test in underway and the effort to find the best surfactants as well as the optimum operating conditions are being made at the same time.
We investigate the role of small-scale and large-scale environments in triggering nuclear activity of the local galaxies using a volume-limited sample with $M_r$ < -19.5 and 0.02 < z < 0.0685 from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey Data Release 7. To fix the mass of the supermassive black hole in its host galaxy, we limit the central velocity dispersion of the sample galaxies. The active galactic nuclei (AGN) host sample is composed of Type II AGNs identified with flux ratios of narrow emission lines with S/N > 6. In this study, we find that the AGN fraction of late-type host galaxies are commonly larger than of early type galaxies. The AGN fraction of host galaxy with late-type nearest neighbor starts to increase as the host galaxy approaches the virial radius of the nearest neighbor (about a few hundred kpc scale). Our result may support the idea that the hydrodynamic interaction with the nearest neighbor plays an important role in triggering the nuclear activity of galaxy. The early-type galaxies in high density regions show decline of AGN activity compared to ones in lower density regions, whereas the direction of the environmental dependence of AGN activity for late-type galaxies is rather opposite. We also find that the environmental dependence of star formation rate is analogous to one of AGN activity except in the high density region.
A determination method of trace Ni(II) and Zn(II) in aqueous solution was studied and developed by adsorbing on titanium dioxide. For this purpose, several conditions were optimized such as the pH of sample solution, adsorption time, the types and concentration acid, and desorption time. The titanium dioxide was added in sample solution which was pH adjusted. Then, the sample solution was stirred for 5 minutes. This mixture was stored in room temperature for 30 minutes to allow adsorption. After filtering and washing the titanium dioxide, the analytes were dissolved from the titanium dioxide on membrane filter by an ultrasonic vibration for 10 minutes in 1.0 M $HNO_3$ solution. Then, this sample solution was analysed using ICP-AES. The adsorption equilibrium was achieved in 30 minutes. The desorption was the most of effective with 1.0 M(mol/l) nitric acid solution, and desorption time was 10 minutes. This procedure was applied for the analysis of two real samples, i.e., brown seaweed and tangle. The recoveries of Ni(II) and Zn(II) in spiked samples were 89.4${\sim}$98.9% for analytes.
This study compared and analyzed the construction of a land use change matrix for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change's (IPCC) land use, land use change, and forestry area (LULUCF). We used National Forest Inventory (NFI) permanent sample plots (with a sample intensity of 4 km) and permanent sample plots with 500 m sampling intensity. The land use change matrix was formed using the point sampling method, Level-2 Land Cover Maps, and forest aerial photographs (3rd and 4th series). The land use change matrix using the land cover map indicated that the annual change in area was the highest for forests and cropland; the cropland area decreased over time. We evaluated the uncertainty of the land use change matrix. Our results indicated that the forest land use, which had the most sampling, had the lowest uncertainty, while the grassland and wetlands had the highest uncertainty and the least sampling. The uncertainty was higher for the 4 km sampling intensity than for the 500 m sampling intensity, which indicates the importance of selecting the appropriate sample size when constructing a national land use change matrix.
Both the frequency and the magnitude of hydrometeorological extreme events such as severe floods and droughts are increasing. In order to prevent a damage from the climatic disaster, hydrological models are often simulated under various meteorological conditions. While performing the simulations, a synthetic data generated through time series models which maintains the key statistical characteristics of the sample data are widely applied. However, the synthetic data can easily maintains both the average and the variance of the sample data, but the quantile is not maintained well. In this study, we proposes a data generation method which maintains the quantile of the sample data well. The equations of the former maintenance of variance extension (MOVE) are expanded to maintain quantile rather than the average or the variance of the sample data. The equations are derived and the coefficients are determined based on the characteristics of the sample data that we aim to preserve. Monte Carlo simulation is utilized to assess the performance of the proposed data generation method. A time series data (data length of 500) is regarded as the sample data and selected randomly from the sample data to create the data set (data length of 30) for simulation. Data length of the selected data set is expanded from 30 to 500 by using the proposed method. Then, the average, the variance, and the quantile difference between the sample data, and the expanded data are evaluated with relative root mean square error for each simulation. As a result of the simulation, each equation which is designed to maintain the characteristic of data performs well. Moreover, expanded data can preserve the quantile of sample data more precisely than that those expanded through the conventional time series model.

This paper aimed to study the role of green leadership toward environmental policies support in university. Furthermore, this study investigated the influence of green leadership toward environmental policies support and discussed the mediation effect of Green Self efficacy, Green Mindfulness, organization identity and environmental responsibility. The number of Population sample in this research was taken from 1,456 lecturers and staff of Universitas Negeri Semarang, Indonesia. Total sample in this research is 312 respondents. Structural Equation Models (SEM) was used in this research to develop the model of green leadership role toward environmental policies support of Lecturer and Staff in the University. This study found that green leadership had significant influences toward environmental policies support, environmental responsibility, green mindfulness and green self-efficacy but had insignificant influence toward organizational identity. Path analysis showed strong mediation effect of environmental responsibility and green mindfulness, but had a weak mediation from organizational identity and green self-efficacy. Finally, this study concluded that the role of green leadership in influencing environmental responsibility and green mindfulness was required to be enhanced in order to increase the support of environmental policies at the university. Further study needs to be carried out to determine the effect of green leadership on green performance and green behavior in organizations.

The main objective of this research is to examine the effect of organizational culture, environmental uncertainty, and manager's personnel value on environmental disclosure through the environmental organizational structure of manufacturing companies on the Indonesia Stock Exchange. This research uses the structuration and contingency theory. The sample in this study focused on the level of heads or managers or directors of manufacturing companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange. The research data was obtained through an online questionnaire distributed to heads or managers. The total sample of this study is 161 manufacturing companies. The data comprising of 64 respondents was completed and can be processed. Empirical testing used Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) through Partial Least Square (PLS). The result shows that environmental uncertainty and management personnel value have a positive effect on the environmental organizational structure, as well as the environmental organizational structure has a positive effect on the environmental disclosure. However, organizational culture has no effect on the environmental organizational structure. This research can provide benefits for manufacturing companies. The limitation include the low level of response from the respondents. Also the results cannot be generalized due to its specific focus on the manufacturing companies.
