  • A recent report cited environmental issues, including climate change, as the most likely threat to Earth in the 2020s. Therefore, it is necessary to recognize that environmental problems today are not just problems of any particular region or country, but also problems of the future, and problems of the present day in which we live. Various interests and research on environmental issues have been conducted within Christianity based on the Christian worldview based on creation, degradation, and restraint. This interest began mainly in the Catholic camp in the early days, but gradually efforts have been made to link global care to Christian responsibility in evangelical Christian camps, including the World Council of Churches (WCC). At a time when interest in earth care is growing, the study suggested as follows for the Christian community: First, it is necessary to change from environmental protection and ecological preservation to life theology. Second, there is a need for a change of understanding of ecology that looks at nature. Third, at the Christian level, there should be a genuine recovery movement that is differentiated from secular environmentalism. Fourth, the church should be able to realize a society that can realize a true community with the world of creation while looking forward to the kingdom of God.

  • This study is aimed to suggest a direction for the general environment education through analyzing current environment education curriculums and survey of educational needs for students in Korean universities. Since the result of this survey shows that most university students lack experience in environmental education in their secondary education, the basic educational programs as well as advanced educational programs should be included to develop a general environmental education curriculum for university students. So far, general environmental education for university students has not witnessed a clear and distinct object and direction. Since we live in a situation where environmental problems should be considered in every aspect of our society, the general environmental education curriculum for university students shall play a role to solve these problems. Additionally, we need to change the way of environment education from educating and raising the environment professionals to educating and raising people who comprehensively understand economy, society and environment under the sustainable development paradigm. Also the focus of environmental education should swift from natural science to over all perspectives. Recently, the need of interdisciplinary curriculum for the environment education field has been discussed in universities. However, it has not been integrated into the normal curriculum. In this regard, systemic improvement which enables general education curriculum to operate flexibly will be followed. The key to establish an interdisciplinary curriculum is a flexible educational curriculum system which can solve problems arising from departmental curriculums, and promptly respond to the demand of educational and social consumers. Additionally, the result of survey shows that students want diverse educational operations and teaching methods, equipping educational assistance system for these needs will be required.

  • Recently, with the increase of environmental problems, the importance of environmental education has also been emphasized. Science is a subject that enormously contributes to education about the environment, education in the environment, and education for the environment. Among various fields of science, earth science has a large amount of contents related environmental education, from the perspectives that the subjects of earth science are natural and artificial changes in the earth surface. Accordingly, it is clear that earth science education can play an important role in environmental education. This is proved in the fact that the goal and specifics of earth systems education coincidence with those of environmental education. Earth science curriculum in Korea, however, contains few contents related to environmental education. Earth science education that concerns our environment as a whole will help not only catch a new interest on the field of earth science but actively participate in solving our environmental problems.

  • While Internet-based distance learning has proliferated, its educational effectiveness remains controversial. As such, investigation into the problems of Internet-based distance learning is important and fundamental for an assessment of its educational effectiveness. In this study, problems of Internet-based distance learning are grouped into four categories, environmental problems, student problems, course design problems and operational problems. Based on survey data from 606 distance learning participants, perceptional and relative seriousness of problems are analysed. The results indicate that perceptional seriousness of all the problems is not statistically important. However, the findings indicate that the relative seriousness of self willingness among student problems and cheating within operational problems is most remarkable. In contrast, the relative seriousness of traditionally recognized problems such as H/W availability and network speed among environmental problems is least remarkable. An analysis of demographic differences such as sex, employment and age in terms of seriousness of problem is also performed. The results reveal the existence of statistically significant differences according to sex, employment, and age difference with regard to seriousness of problems.

  • The landscape plannings were composed of the fundamental provisions which are important factors for the city and local plannings in Germany. The State Government run institute like LOLF in NRW have been established to solve the serious ecological problems. The institute have completed the basic system covering various ecological problems, such as environmental affection analysis and ecological risk, to contribute the application of the various land-using plants. The ecological landscape plannings are regarded as major fundamental plans of environmental preservation for the plannings development. The problems about the local landscape plannings needed to be preserved ecologically are introduced into the Federal Nature Preservation Law and State Congress Law in order to carry out the environmental protection policy effectively. The local landscape plannings are divided into two-step models by the special classification system for the planning. One is build-up of an independent design separated from city plans functionally, and the other is a systematic regulation for cooperation between the local plans and ecological conservation functions. The local plannings including lands to be preserved as the Nature Preservatin Zone is classified a rest area total sectioned plains.

  • This research focuses on analyzing the problems of guideline signs, facilities and length of nature trails of Odaesan and Seoraksan national park, and aims to help the preservation of nature by increasing the efficiency of children's learning of nature by observing the usage of nature trails in the children's point of view. On-site research and questionnaire research took place in November 2008 and february 2008. Considering the contemporary problems, we have proposed the location change of guideline signs to be suitable for children and also the change of its design for children's increased attention.

  • This paper sought to provide information regarding the water resources in the Philippines, focusing on the issues of water quality, status of water use and water scarcity, and other threats to water availability. Although the country has sufficient amount of water resources, it was found out that water availability is still threatened by some major water resources problems: increasing water demand due to drastic growth in population, water resources pollution, droughts and flooding and weak institutional framework to address these problems. Water quality problems include increasing groundwater and surface water pollution. Moreover, drought and flooding have also increased damages in recent years due to deteriorating watersheds and high economic and population growth. In relation to these, the government enacted national laws to define and deal with water control and quality management. The objective of this research was to present and evaluate current conditions and issues on Philippine water resources.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of social norms and personal ethics on recycling behavior. For this purpose, survey data from four hundred and fifty seven individuals were collected and analyzed using an SPSS program. The major findings were as follows: First, social norms had a positive impact on personal ethics and recycling behavior. Second, personal ethics significantly affected recycling behavior. Third, awareness of the consequences of recycling behavior (AC) and ascription of responsibility for environmental problems(AR) did not significantly translate personal ethics into actual recycling behavior. Fourth, ascription of responsibility for environmental problems(AR) and awareness of consequences of recycling behavior(AC) affected recycling behavior. These results suggest that in order to encourage recycling behavior, it is necessary to inform and educate the public so as to enhance social norms and personal ethics.

  • Recently, many environmental problems occur due to the waste shells in South Korea. In case of oyster and cockle, utilizing waste shells to produce fertilizer once also, but due to sluggish consumption, production is no longer difficult. The stored amount of waste shells in the fertilizer manufacturing company is overfilled, and thus cannot accept any more of the waste shells. As a result, landfill and dumping of waste shells have become an increasingly environmental problems. In this research, the basic physical properties and interfacial bonding form of the mortar mixed with waste shells (manila clam, cockle, clam, sea mussel, oyster) were evaluated.

  • There is a question, 'Which is beautiful, a flower or a star?'. Its answer is different from one person .to another. It is only a matter of what one is interested in. It is very difficult for most school pupils, who will have non-scientific jobs, to understand science courses taught currently in school, because each science (physics, chemistry, biology, and earth science) is independently taught from the other sciences. Therefore, their knowledge of sciences obtained during their school period does not significantly help their understanding of global environmental problems. I am proposing that several scientific stories should be prepared to connect all the related scientific phenomena in order to give those pupils ideas in understanding global environmental problems. I believe that astronomy is able to play an important role in this context.
