The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of and development of the STEAM-based on environmental programs to enhance environmental literacy of elementary school students. Through the questionnaires and the analysis of students' outcomes, the effects on literacy in both quality and quantity were verified. By applying the STEAM-based to environmental programs for enhancing environmental literacy to elementary students, the results of this study was as follows: First, its application was meaningful in that the level of $p$<.05 in point view of environmental literacy was a result of the pre-post test in the experiment group, which was made up of the 6th graders in the elementary school. Second, analysis of students' reflective journals showed that the participants' understanding, actions, and attitudes were positively affected by the programs in terms of environmental literacy. In conclusion, the STEAM-based on environmental programs for environmental education was very effective in enhancing environmental literacy.
The aims of this study was to investigate environmental views of national park rangers and their perspectives on natural environment interpretation as managers and to provide a basic resource to make programs regarding natural environment interpretation improve. The specially designed questionnaire was administered to twenty-five national park rangers who had worked at the southern office of Jiri Mountain National Park. Analysis results are as follows. They had have concerns with environmental problems and about preservation of natural environment. Most of them thought that the purpose of natural environment interpretation was to make change regarding public perceptions and attitudes toward natural environment. Over sixty percents of them recognized that publics had rarely participated in the natural environment interpretation program prepared by a national park. It was turned out that public had not concerned with the program because of the lack of their interests and recognitions regarding the natural environment interpretation program due to the lack of active advertisement for it. It is expected that national park rangers need to advertise the necessity of the program and to manage the program effective with more active mind as well as to develop and practice more appropriate programs for natural environment interpretation.

As a result, the environmental education program that utilize traditional culture had a positive impact on the improvement of elementary school students' environmental attitudes. Analysis of students' Internet bulletin board posts, the amount of writing was increased. In addition, the sensitivity to the environment of the students were changed. Students, was considered not related to their environmental problems. However, after programming experience, they found that environmental problems are directly related to them.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the change in ecological footprint made by the eco-friendly consumer education program, and ultimately, to help the high school students, future consumers, have eco-friendly attitude. This study will be contributed to helping them to understand the importance of the eco-friendly consumption and the seriousness of the environmental problems arising from their bad consumption habit, to get interested in the environmental problems in daily lives, and to reduce the ecological footprint through the eco-friendly habit acquired when young. This study is designed to have 60 high school students experience the eco-friendly consumer education program for 10 months and compare the levels of each ecological footprint though two different Questionnaires in five sections: housing, food, transportation, purchase, and waste. The program used in this research consists of three parts: eco-friendly attitude education for consumers, eco-friendly citizen education for consumers, and eco-friendly resource management education for consumers. The data are analyzed by SPSS Window 10.0 program. The findings are as follows: First. The eco-friendly consumer education is more likely to help the students develop critical thought and eco-friendly attitude, unlike the economy-related consumer education. Second. The level of ecological footprint is significantly decreased in the group with the eco-friendly consumer education program. compared to the group without it. Third. Experiencing the eco-friendly consumer education program helps the students have the positive attitude on ecology and lead an environmentally sustainable consumer life. The results show that eco-friendly consumer education can make a contribution to raising the good citizens who have eco-friendly attitude and behavior, lead sustainable consumer life, and try to reduce the level of ecological footprint.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate site-based environmental education(EE) programs. For the evaluation, an evaluation chart was developed. The chart was consisted of twenty evaluation items in the following six categories : 'goals & objectives', 'instructional planning', 'instruction', 'learning outcomes & evaluation', 'features of program', and 'program operation'. One hundred sixty five site-based EE programs, funded by the Korean Ministry of Environment in 2000, were evaluated. After the evaluation, the programs were also categorized and analyzed according to regions, organizations, and amount of funds. The results indicated that awareness, participation, and attitude were addressed in the purpose of the programs, while knowledge and skills were not. The diversity of activities and teaching strategies of the programs were insufficient. Cultural aspects, fairness, originality, and accuracy were also insufficiently addressed. Assessment and evaluation of such programs were needed to be considered to a larger degree. From the analysis of programs according to categories, Choongbuk province in the regional aspect and schools in the organizational aspect got higher scores than others. Overall, the more funding the program received, the higher score it got in evaluation. Some improvements and strategies for activating site-based EE were recommended based on the result of the evaluation.
As an effort to realize the results of last two years of study, this study had three distinguished purposes: 1) confirming whether some requests for corrections had been accepted or not 2) making a list of possible errors found in newly written textbooks and asking to fix them, and 3) classifying forest related contents identified in the textbooks according to the 150 topics included in information material, so called Forest IQ 200. Among 94 errors associated trees, forest or forest education, only thirteen of them were found to be fixed according to the request made in previous study of 2008. Especially, most of the fixed errors were identified to be in natural and social science subject textbooks and nothing was found in art and language areas. Total of 1,320 forest related items were found in the textbooks at the level of kindergarten to 10th grade(freshman in highschool). Korean student was expect to have a chance to learn forest related items 1.64 times a week for 10 years(First to 10th grade). Analyzing 1,109 contents in terms of four topic areas of forest education, the forest culture area was found to have most content of 348 including painting and recreation. Some suggestions were made to make school forest education better, and publishing the forest textbook for elementary schools was one of them.
Values and attitude towards the environment begin to form in elementary school. Thus, environmental education is effective to promote children's sensibility on the environment, to increase their interest and concern on it, and to make them have friendly attitudes towards it. As a measure of such education, experiential learning activities are being emphasized, where children can see, feel and experience for themselves in a familiar environment surrounding them. Based on the results of this research, the following proposals can be made for environmental education necessary for elementary school children. i) the contents of environmental education should be selected and organized according to grades. Also, schedule should be secured to provide environmental education in certain time. ii) program should be developed to fit into local characteristics and academic level, providing connective and consistent environmental education. iii) activities for environmental education in elementary school can be effective only if connective guidances are provided among school, home and local community. iv) the recycling and separate collection activity program used in this research was limited to 3rd graders in small-size rural schools. Additional research may be necessary to see how long their attitudes last according to different grades.
Clean plate education program was applied to change students' perception on food waste in the dormitory cafeteria of T campus G university that is located in Tongyeong, in which 408 students joined the program. From survey and food waste monitoring, it was found that clean plate education program was effective to change students' perception as well as action. Half students (50.5%) answered that their eating habit changed, and among them 30.1 % students left a little food on the plate and 13.1% students left no food behind. Many students become aware of the seriousness of food waste issue (84.5%), and 44.2% students were trying to reduce leftover. Food waste generation in cafeteria was 341.9, 576.1, 344.3g/capita/day in 2005, 2007 and 2008, respectively. And this shows that food waste generations were much less than national average data except 2007. Therefore we could conclude that clean plate education program was satisfactory to change students' perception on food and to change their action, and it could be an excellent new approach to resolve a social issue caused by food waste. In order to reduce food waste generation at dormitory cafeteria, food taste and diet should be improved and students' eating habits also should be changed. For this, a practical program like clean plate education should be organized.
The aim of this study is to establish an object of environmental education in liberal arts, and to develop a teaming program and search for the most effective environmental teaching method. At first this study analyzed the current situations and problems of the present environmental education in the liberal arts. As a result of this analysis, I found that, most of environmental educations have been conducted mainly by an approach of natural science, inevitably they should have limits in which students can't have holistic view in solve the environmental problem. Due to the fact that, many students were attending lectures, teaching methods were limited in the forms lecture and video tapes. As I applied educational programs with various teaching methods for students in order to change cognition and value toward environment, I found that there was no significant difference of cognition even after applying the programs. This may be interpreted as, most students already had very sound and sustainable environmental view. But some programs with teaching method using role play, debate, cyber-debate lead students to have interest in environments, thus actively participating in the class. These methods, taking into consideration, the hundreds of enrolled students, seem to pose a problem in actual application. The most important matter is, how to develop a cognition and value toward environment into environmental behavior. Therefore, in the future, aim is to study what determines the factors for causing environmental behavior from a cognition and value of the environment, and a development of programs in this regard will be necessary.
Purpose: This study aimed to develop and examine the effects of a prenatal program on environmental health behavior using cartoon comics among Korean pregnant women. Methods: This study used a non-equivalent control group pre-test/post-test design. The program used cartoon comics to explore environmental health behaviors during pregnancy. The program consisted of the following four components: environmental toxicants during pregnancy, avoiding particulate matter during pregnancy, environmental toxicants during baby care, and making a healthy environment for children. In total, 35 pregnant women participated in the study: 18 in the experimental group and 17 in the control group. Data collection and program adaptation were conducted between November 3, 2020 and January 19, 2021. The effect of the prenatal education program was evaluated by t-test and repeated measures ANOVA. Results: Learning experience (t = - 2.35, p = .025), feasibility (t = - 2.46, p = .019), satisfaction (t = - 2.23, p = .032) were higher in the experimental group than in the control group in the first post-test. Feasibility (t = - 2.40, p = .022) was higher in the experimental group than in the control group in the second post-test. Repeated-measures ANOVA showed significant interactions between time and group in environmental susceptibility (F = 9.31, p < .001), self-efficacy (F = 3.60, p = .033), and community behavior (F = 5.41, p = .007). Conclusion: This study demonstrates the need for a prenatal education program to promote environmental health perceptions and behavior during pregnancy. We suggest a prenatal class adopting the creative cartoon comics to promote the maternal environmental health behaviors.
