  • Function of the window of the building is an environment of the room through the entry of solar radiation. It is vulnerable to significant energy conservation off the thermal efficiency. Also this summer, cooling costs are weighted because of excessive solar radiation. In this paper, we develop a windows automatic control system to use the indoor environmental information, such as home temperature, humidity, light intensity, solar radiation. The system collects the indoor environment information using a variety of sensor, using the collected information, and controls the motor to the system to control the window.

Haplotype Distribution of the β2-Adrenergic Receptor Gene in Korean Essential Hypertensives

  • In view of the effect of $\beta_2$-Adrenergic receptors ($\beta_2$-AR) as a risk factor for essential hypertension, we investigated the Fnu4HI and MnlI RFLPs of $\beta_2$ -AR gene in the Korean patients with essential hypertension and normal controls. There were no significant differences in the allele and genotype of these polymorphisms between normotensive and essential hypertensive subjects. In ethnic comparison, the allele frequencies of these three sites contained Nde I RFLP reported the association with essential hypertension in Korean population previously, were very different from those of other ethnic populations studied. The significant linkage disequilibrium was detected only in hypertensive group between Nde I and Fnu4HI sites. The Fnu4HI RFLP was also significantly associated with plasma triglyceride (TG) level. Therefore, our results suggest that the significant association between Fnu4HI variation in the human $\beta_2$-AR gene and plasma TG level may reflect the potential role of human $\beta_2$-AR gene as one of the genetic components for cardiovascular risk.

Effects of 5-Aza-2'-Deoxycytidine, Bromodeoxyuridine, Interferons and Hydrogen Peroxide on Cellular Senescence in Cholangiocarcinoma Cells

  • Cellular senescence, a barrier to tumorigenesis, controls aberrant proliferation of cells. We here aimed to investigate cellular senescence in immortalized cholangiocyte and cholangiocarcinoma cell lines using five different inducing agents: 5-aza-2'deoxycytidine, bromodeoxyuridine, interferons ($IFN{\beta}$ and $IFN{\gamma}$), and hydrogen peroxide. We analyzed senescence characteristics, colony formation ability, expression of genes involved in cell cycling and interferon signaling pathways, and protein levels. Treatment with all five agents decreased cell proliferation and induced cellular senescence in immortalized cholangiocyte and cholangiocarcinoma cell lines with different degrees of growth-inhibitory effects depending on cell type and origin. Bromodeoxyuridine gave the strongest stimulus to inhibit growth and induce senescence in most cell lines tested. Expression of p21 and interferon related genes was upregulated in most conditions. The fact that bromodeoxyuridine had the strongest effects on growth inhibition and senescence induction implies that senescence in cholangiocarcinoma cells is likely controlled by DNA damage response pathways relating to the p53/p21 signaling. In addition, interferon signaling pathways may partly regulate this mechanism in cholangiocarcinoma cells.

  • Secondary walls have recently drawn research interest as a primary source of sugars for liquid biofuel production. Secondary walls are composed of a complex mixture of the structural polymers cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin. A matrix of hemicellulose and lignin surrounds the cellulose component of the plant's cell wall in order to protect the cell from enzymatic attacks. Such resistance, along with the variability seen in the proportions of the major components of the mixture, presents process design and operating challenges to the bioconversion of lignocellulosic biomass to fuel. Expanding bioenergy production to the commercial scale will require a significant improvement in the growth of feedstock as well as in its quality. Plant biotechnology offers an efficient means to create "targeted" changes in the chemical and physical properties of the resulting biomass through pathway-specific manipulation of metabolisms. The successful use of the genetic engineering approach largely depends on the development of two enabling tools: (1) the discovery of regulatory genes involved in key pathways that determine the quantity and quality of the biomass, and (2) utility promoters that can drive the expression of the introduced genes in a highly controlled manner spatially and/or temporally. In this review, we summarize the current understanding of the transcriptional regulatory network that controls secondary wall biosynthesis and discuss experimental approaches to developing-xylem-specific utility promoters.

  • From the research which sees the building which uses a natural control method with ecological architecture, continuity tried to divide the building which uses a physical control method with sustainable architecture. Ecological architecture analyzes the microclimate of the area and applies mining and natural ventilation leads and that the interior environment controls, the condition of the site actively and there is a possibility of seeing. Also sustainable architecture which is possible to lead and recycling and reuse of the resources and energy cyclic process of the construction resources to lead and the interior environment to control. Therefore the case where the facility system and structural system become integrated design organically in natural circulating method is many. Specially the sunshade system and double skin system are combined and structural system of the building and there is a possibility of having the envelope which form is feature. Today the buildings lead and the system integration process where the integral parts are systematic is demanded the interior environment which and an external form and that, they make they are there is a possibility of seeing. the environmental building which hits joins in with natural control method and the structure and facility system are integrated and has the tendency which is developed and there is a possibility of saying that a meaning with the alternative construction will be able to reduce the resources and an energy.

Dynamics of alpine treelines: positive feedbacks and global, regional and local controls

  • Whilst it is clear that increasing temperatures from global environmental change will impact the positions of alpine treelines, it is likely that a range of regional and local scaled factors will mediate the overall impact of global scale climate drivers. We summarized 12 categories of abiotic and biotic factors as 4 groups determining treeline positions. First, there are global factors related to climate-induced growth limitation and carbon limitation. Second, there are seven regional and local factors related to treeline dynamics including frost stress, topography, water stress, snow, wind, fire and non-fire disturbance. Third, species-specific factors can control treeline dynamics through their influence on reproduction and life history traits. Fourth, there are positive feedbacks in structuring the dynamics of treelines. Globally, the commonly accepted growth limitation hypothesis is that growth at a treeline is limited by temperature. Meanwhile, positive feedbacks between canopy cover and tree establishment are likely to control the spatial pattern and temporal dynamics of many treelines. The presence of non-linear dynamics at treelines has implications for the use of treelines as barometers of climate change because the lagged responses and abrupt shifts inherent in non-equilibrium systems may combine to mask the overall climate trend.

Analysis of Induction Motor-pump System Supplied by a Photovoltaic Generator for Agricultural Irrigation in Southeastern Anatolian Region of Turkey

  • In agricultural systems, significant amount of energy is consumed during irrigation periods. Therefore operating irrigation systems with electrical energy produced by solar energy is very important. It is be possible to operate irrigation systems which have small-pump power like drip-irrigation with electrical energy produced by solar energy. Electrical energy produced by photovoltaic panels can vary from the estimated value due to environmental factors. Consequently analysis of a real system's performance is important. Thus, more correct projections can be made for the systems which will be designed. In this study, induction motor-pump mechanism for drip-irrigation system is operated with photovoltaic generator. Solar energy capacity of the established system is evaluated by measurements in irrigation periods. By means of simulations, power values produced by system and gained from the actual system are compared. Additionally the performance of induction motor is analyzed with the help of the driver system that increases the efficiency and controls the motor. As regards of results, design values of the drip-irrigation systems fed with solar energy in Southeastern Anatolian Regions of Turkey are obtained. Performance results of induction motor controlled with driver are also provided.

  • The need of forecasting river flows arised whenever a river authority must make controls to protect the life and property from the flood and maintain the adequate flows for water use. This study is on the real time flood forecasting from the gauged and ungauged rainfall input and identification of second-order autoregressive(AR(2)) which is used as system model. A Kalman filter is used to obtain the values of the system parameters needed for the optimal control strategy. This system model was applied to the data at the Naiu gauging station in Young san river basin to check the accuracy and efficiency of prediction. One step ahead prediction is checked by stochastic analysis and the order of autoregressive model is proved to be satisfied, Discussions on interesting features of the model are presented.

Maternal Factors and Risk of Childhood Leukemia

  • Background: Although the cause in most cases of childhood leukemia is not known, the contribution of environmental risk factors in the context of genetic predisposition has been reported with inconsistent results. The aim of this study was to examine association of childhood leukemia with maternal factors especially during pregnancy, to help in avoiding risk factors. Materials and Methods: This case-control study included children younger than 18 years diagnosed with leukemia from 2008 to 2012. Controls were randomly selected and individually matched to cases with respect to age, sex, and residency. All variables were compared between cases and control to determine any significant association with leukemia. Results: Statistically significant associations between risk of childhood leukemia with mother's education (p=0.001), occupation (p=0.0005) and pesticides exposure (p=0.005) during pregnancy were found. However, there were no significant links with maternal age (p=0.090), history of fetal loss (0.85), history of radiography during pregnancy (p=0.400), history of drug intake (p=0.689) and infection (p=0.696) during pregnancy. Conclusions: The results showed increased risk of leukemia in children whose mothers were working in agriculture and were exposed to pesticides during pregnancy. The further study needs to be investigated to know association of various maternal risk factors with leukemia which remained unknown in this study.

Segmental Sensory Nerve Conduction Study in Vibration Exposed Subjects

  • The present study was performed to assess peripheral neural involvement by exposure to hand-arm vibration. Segmental sensory nerve conduction in the median and ulnar nerves were measured in shipyard workers exposed to vibration. The subjects were 47 male adults exposed to hand-arm vibration and 7 healthy male controls. The subjects underwent an extensive bilateral neurophysiological examination. Sensory compound nerve action potential (SNAP) of the median and ulnar nerves in palm-finger and wrist-palm segments were measured by antidromic method. And SNAP of the median and ulnar nerves in wrist-proximal finger and wrist-distal finger segments were measured by orthodromic method. Result of sensory nerve conduction study was abnormal in 31 patients $(66\%)$ and normal in 16 patients $(34\%)$ of subjects. The pathological pattern in the hand-arm vibration exposed group was 13 patients $(28\%)$ of carpal tunnel syndrome, 18 patients $(38\%)$ of distal sensory neuropathy, 7 patients $(15\%)$ of multifocal and 1 patient $(2\%)$ of Guyon syndrome. The present study indicates that vibration-induced nerve impairments exist both in the finger-palm and palm-wrist segment of median and ulnar sensory nerves. The results suggest that segmental sensory nerve conduction study would be useful as objective indication of peripheral nerve impairment induced by the hand-arm vibration.
