Objective : Surgical treatment of lumbosacral foraminal stenosis requires an understanding of the anatomy of the lumbosacral area in individual patients. Unilateral facetectomy has been used to completely decompress entrapment of the L5 nerve root, followed in some patients by posterior lumbar interbody fusion (PLIF) with stand-alone cages Methods : We assessed 34 patients with lumbosacral foraminal stenosis who were treated with unilateral facetectomy and PLIF using stand-alone cages in our center from January 2004 to September 2007. All the patients underwent follow-up X-rays, including a dynamic view, at 3, 6, 12, 24 months, and computed tomography (CT) at 24 months postoperatively. Clinical outcomes were analyzed with the mean numeric rating scale (NRS), Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) and Odom's criteria. Radiological outcomes were assessed with change of disc height, defined as the average of anterior, middle, and posterior height in plain X-rays. In addition, lumbosacral fusion was also assessed with dynamic X-ray and CT. Results : Mean NRS score, which was 9.29 prior to surgery, was 1.5 at 18 months after surgery. The decrease in NRS was statistically significant. Excellent and good groups with regard to Odom's criteria were 31 cases (91%) and three cases (9%) were fair. Pre-operative mean ODI of 28.4 decreased to 14.2 at post-operative 24 months. In 30 patients, a bone bridge on CT scan was identified. The change in disc height was 8.11 mm, 10.02 mm and 9.63 mm preoperatively, immediate postoperatively and at 24 months after surgery, respectively. Conclusion : In the treatment of lumbosacral foraminal stenosis, unilateral facetectomy and interbody fusion using expandable stand-alone cages may be considered as one treatment option to maintain post-operative alignment and to obtain satisfactory clinical outcomes.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of formulation variables on the release of cefadroxil form chitosan beads, to optimize the preparation of chitosan beads loaded with the drug for controlled release, and to evaluate the drug release form chitosan beads in dogs. Chitosan beads were prepared with tripolyphosphate (TPP) by ionic cross-linking and those sizes were less than 1 mm in diameter. The release behaviour of cefadroxil was affected various factors. As pH of TPP solutions decreased, the entrapment efficiency of cefadroxil increased, whereas the release of cefadroxil decreased. The release rate of cefadroxil form chitosan beads decreaed with the increased TPP solution concentration. When cross-linking time increased, the release of the drug from chitosan beads decreased. The cefadroxil loaded beads were implanted to 4 mixed breed dogs. The concentration of cefadroxil in sera due to chitosan beads implanted with 50 mg/kg body weight of beads was sustained more than 1 ug/ml for the whole 7 days period. Therefore, the cefadroxil loaded beads can be used successfully in pyoderma of dogs. These results indicate that chitosan beads may become a potential delivery system to control the release of drug.
Encapsulation of lysozyme using lecithin vesicles and its stimilated release properties were studied. Lecithin vesicles were prepared by the dehydration-rehydration (DR)method. The highest encapsulation efficiency (EE) value of 80.1% was obtained by sonicating the multilamellar vesicles (MLVs) at 100 KHz for 120 min in bath sonicator. The value of entrapment progressively increased with the concentration of lysozyme, while the EE value decreased with the increase of enzyme concentration up to 50mg per 100mg per 100mg of lecithin, and then became nearly constant. At the pH of 5.9, only a small amount of lysozyme was released from DR vesicles during incubation at $37^{\circ}C$ As the pH decreased to 3.0, lysozyme was released more rapidly. Lysozyme release was accelerated for 24h and reached a plateau after 72h incubation with 1% Tween 80, $Ca^{2+}$ gave a pulse-like-release in the first hour, which was followed by a slow release.
The purpose of this study is to examine the patterns of the keywords in journals in the field of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to identify the knowledge structure of CBT studies in Korea. To compare CBT studies from Korea and abroad, 234 articles (2008-2019) published on "Cognitive Behavior Therapy in Korea" and 2,316 articles (1977-2019) published on "Cognitive Therapy and Research" were collected. The data were analyzed using NetMiner 4.3. The co-word analysis was done by calculating the cosine similarity matrix of major keywords, followed by visualizing the network. The results of this study identified the main interests of Korean CBT scholars, and categorized the knowledge structure of CBT in Korea into 9 research areas: "scale validation"; "perfectionism and entrapment"; "cognitive, emotional, and relationship characteristics of schizophrenic patients"; "cognitive characteristics and treatment of borderline personality disorder and depression/bipolar disorder patients"; "adaptation and psychological health"; "cognitive characteristics and treatment of patients with social anxiety disorder"; "causes and co-morbidities of depression"; "acceptance and commitment therapy"; and "understanding and the treatment of binge eating disorder patients." This study is meaningful in that it has reviewed the accumulated knowledge in the CBT field in Korea for the past 11 years, and suggests future tasks for development to improve the standards of CBT practice.
This study was undertaken to identify the musculotendinous problems and contributing factors to those problems In students majoring in musical instruments in Korea. The data were collected from March 2, 1996 to March 31, 1996 from 261 music students in various geographical areas. The data were analyzed for descriptive statistics, t-test, chi-square using SPSS $PC^+$ program. The results of this study were as follows : 1. In a questionnaire survey of 261 music students, one hundred twenty five(47.9%) reported having had various musculotendinous symptoms. Twenty seven students among the those who had previous symptoms(21.9%) reported the present symptoms. 2. The experience rates of musculotendinous problems in keyboard players, string players and woodwind players were 50.3%, 48.2%, 33.3% respectively. 3. Most of the students practiced most intensively during their high school years and the musculotendinous symptoms began at the same period. 4. Pain, tenderness and stiffness were the most common symptoms, while paresthesia and motor dysfunction were rare. This indicates that most players had muscle tendinous overuse, while small number had nerve entrapment and motor dysfunction. 5. In past and present symptoms, string players experienced musculotendinous symptoms mainly in both sides of shoulders, lumbar area, left finger, and left wrist, while keyboard players experienced more symptoms in the right wrist, shoulder, fingers than left side. 6. The major contributing factors to the symptoms were weight of instrument, types of instruments, types of daily activities, duration of practice, and playing technique. 7 The most frequent treatment modalities for the symptoms were acupuncture or moxibustion, other alternative therapy such as heat compress and massage. Through this study it was found that the musculotendinous problems might be increased along with their career, due to lack of knowledge about preventive measures and patterns of health behavior seeking alternative modalities rather than professional consultation. Therefore, preventive measures that focus on playing habits such as duration of practice, frequency of rest and position while playing should be developed and taught to the students, their parents, and music educators. Doctors who are interested in this area should attempt to correct the position and posture while playing of the posture. And measures for reduction of loading of instrument weight should also be developed.
Recently, incorrect and unhealthy postures have become increasingly prevalent due to reasons such as smartphone use. Consequently, imbalanced muscle contraction occurs. In particular, if the oblique muscle is contracted, the accessory nerve will be compressed, causing ischemic pain in the upper trapezius muscle. To investigate the effect on pain in the upper trapezius muscle, this study applied the ischemic compression method to the accessory nerve capture point at the 1/3-point of the oblique cervical muscle. In this study, the ischemic compression method was applied to eight women twice a week for four weeks, and pain was evaluated before, immediately after, and three weeks after application. The visual analogue scale, McGill Pain Questionnaire, and pressure dynamometer were used to evaluate subjects' pain. As a result of this study, it was confirmed that the pain was significantly reduced after treatment, and that the pain reduction was still effective three weeks after completion of the intervention, indicating that the intervention on the accessory nerve compression point on the oblique cervical muscle was both effective and long-lasting for pain reduction in the upper trapezius muscle. Future studies should increase the number of subjects to check not only pain reduction in the upper trapezius muscle, but also improvement of neck function.
Color rings have been commonly and widely used in many ecological and ornithological studies in the field, but color ring-induced injury in passerines is poorly documented. In this report, we describe the first case of toe loss caused by a dislocated split Darvic ring in a Pale Thrush (Turdus pallidus) that was recaptured 596 days after its initial capture and release on Hong-do Island, the Republic of Korea. We also found that a left hind toe of a Light-vented Bulbul (Pycnonotus sinensis) was entrapped by a split color ring when the bird was observed 135 days after the marking at Heuksan-do Island. Based on these two cases out of the 1,900 color ringed birds, we emphasize a precautionary approach following general guidelines in the application and use of color leg rings for future studies.
To improve the oxidative stability of Glycyrrhiza uralensis extract (GU), GU extraction conditions were optimized for maximal antioxidant activity, and GU-loaded nanocapsules were prepared by chitosan ionic gelation. The optimized ethanol concentration and extraction time were 83.0% and 32.6 min, respectively, using response surface methodology. The particle size of the GU-loaded nanocapsules ranged from 280 to 370 nm. A GU extract of 0.8 mg/mL and chitosan concentration of 2.0 mg/mL were selected as the optimal conditions for entrapment and loading efficiency. Both free GU and GU-loaded chitosan nanocapsules exhibited concentration-dependent antioxidant activity. However, the antioxidant protection factor of GU was effectively maintained when it was entrapped within the chitosan nanocapsules. In conclusion, chitosan nanoencapsulation is a potentially valuable technique for improving the oxidative stability of GU.

According to the official letter of the Ministry of Employment and Labor (recent guidance on the status of deaths in the construction industry and thorough safety management, April 4, 2022), 17 deaths occurred in construction works worth more than 5 billion won until March 31, 2022. In terms of the size of the construction, 7 cases of 5 billion won to 12 billion won, 5 cases of 12 billion won to 80 billion won, and 5 cases of more than 80 billion won occurred. The causes of death accidents were found to be nine cases (50%), five cases (28%), two cases of collapse (11%), one case of entrapment (5%), and one case of drowning (5%). Safety facilities need to be strengthened to reduce deaths caused by falling, which accounts for most of the deaths, and if fall prevention nets, openings, and safety rails are completely installed, most falling accidents can be prevented. Therefore, this paper intends to present cases of development and use of patent technology through improvement of safety facilities in order to prevent accidents corresponding to the fall of new urban living housing sites, which are small apartment houses.

Objective : Cubital tunnel syndrome, the most common ulnar nerve entrapment neuropathy, is usually managed by simple decompression or anterior transposition. One of the concerns in transposition is damage to the nerve branches around the elbow. In this study, the location of ulnar nerve branches to the flexor carpi ulnaris (FCU) was assessed during operations for cubital tunnel syndrome to provide information to reduce operation-related complications. Methods : A personal series (HJY) of cases operated for cubital tunnel syndrome was reviewed. Cases managed by transposition and location of branches to the FCU were selected for analysis. The function of the branches was confirmed by intraoperative nerve stimulation and the location of the branches was assessed by the distance from the center of medial epicondyle. Results : There was a total of 61 cases of cubital tunnel syndrome, among which 31 were treated by transposition. Twenty-one cases with information on the location of branches were analyzed. The average number of ulnar nerve branches around the elbow was 1.8 (0 to 3), only one case showed no branches. Most of the cases had one branch to the medial head, and one other to the lateral head of the FCU. There were two cases having branches without FCU responses (one branch in one case, three branches in another). The location of the branches to the medial head was 16.3±8.6 mm distal to the medial epicondyle (16 branches; range, 0 to 35 mm), to the lateral head was 19.5±9.5 mm distal to the medial epicondyle (19 branches; range, -5 to 30 mm). Branches without FCU responses were found from 20 mm proximal to the medial condyle to 15 mm distal to the medial epicondyle (five branches). Most of the branches to the medial head were 15 to 20 mm (50% of cases), and most to the lateral head were 15 to 25 mm (58% of cases). There were no cases of discernable weakness of the FCU after operation. Conclusion : In most cases of cubital tunnel syndrome, there are ulnar nerve branches around the elbow. Although there might be some cases with branches without FCU responses, most branches are to the FCU, and are to be saved. The operator should be watchful for branches about 15 to 25 mm distal to the medial epicondyle, where most branches come out.
