Today's computer systems are widely integrated with CPU and GPU to achieve considerable performance, but energy consumption of such system directly affects operational cost, maintainability and environmental problem, which has been aroused wide concern by researchers, computer architects, and developers. To cope with energy problem, we propose a task-scheduling framework to reduce energy under performance constraint by rationally allocating the tasks across the CPU and GPU. The framework first collects the estimated energy consumption of programs and performance information. Next, we use above information to formalize the scheduling problem as the 0-1 knapsack problem. Then, we elaborate our experiment on typical platform to verify proposed scheduling framework. The experimental results show that our proposed algorithm saves 14.97% energy compared with that of the time-oriented policy and yields 37.23% performance improvement than that of energy-oriented scheme on average.
Buildings, energy and the environment are key issues that the building professions and energy policy makers have to address, especially in the context of sustainable development. With more tall buildings constructed in China, the impact on energy consumption and carbon emission would be great from buildings (2% increase of carbon dioxide annually between 1971 and 2004). The imperative was to investigate the building energy performance of high-rise in different climate zones and identify the key design parameters that impose significantly influence on energy performance in sustainable building design. Design implications on glazing performance, sizing of the ventilation fans, renewable energy application on high-rise building design are addressed. Combination of effective sustainable building design strategies (e.g., building envelope improvement, daylight harvesting, advanced lighting design, displacement ventilation, chilled ceiling etc.) could contribute more than 25% of the total building energy consumption compared to the international building energy code.
Today, the amount of energy consumption in the university campuses is huge. The effort for the energy consumption reduction in university campuses is certainly needed by the following reason; first, contribution to the greenhouse gas discharge reduction demand. Second, energy cost reduction in university campus. Third, contribution to the improvement of the social awareness as the maximum higher educational institutions. The energy consumption analysis of current situation has to be executed for the energy consumption reduction in university campus. The energy reduction possibility in which it exists in university campuses can be understood through the energy consumption analysis. And the application is possible as fundamental data of the policy establishment for the effective energy reduction in university campuses. Especially, the best way to reduce the energy consumption in university campuses that is the energy consumption reduction of buildings. Accordingly, this study derived the plans for improving the performance of energy in the university building by analyzing case study, so this study analyzed the performance of energy for the university building through VE, a program for the analysis of building energy. Based on this result, this study classified the plans improving the efficiency of energy in university building into the plan for passive control and active control respectively, and suggested some concrete plans, and finally evaluated the performance of decreasing energy consumption for each plan.
This paper presents the optimal design of a heating system using radiant heating elements for application in smart farms. Smart farming, an advanced agricultural technology, is based on artificial intelligence and the internet of things and promotes crop production. Temperature and humidity regulation is critical in smart farms, and thus, a heating system is essential. Radiant heating elements are devices that generate heat using electrical energy. Among other applications, radiant heating elements are used for environmental control and heating in smart farm greenhouses. The performance of these elements is directly related to their electrical energy consumption. Therefore, achieving a balance between efficient electrical energy consumption and maximum heating performance in smart farms is crucial for the optimal design of radiant heating elements. In this study, the size, electrical energy supply, heat generation efficiency, and heating performance of radiant heating elements used in these heating systems were investigated. The effects of the size and electrical energy supply of radiant heating elements on the heating performance were experimentally analyzed. As the radiant heating element size increased, the heat generation efficiency improved, but the electrical energy consumption also increased. In addition, increasing the electrical energy supply improved both the heat generation efficiency and heating performance of the radiant heating elements. Based on these results, a method for determining the optimal size and electrical energy supply of radiant heating elements was proposed, and it reduced the electrical energy consumption while maintaining an appropriate heating performance in smart farms. These research findings are expected to contribute to energy conservation and performance improvement in smart farming.
The objective of this study is to investigate the atomization characteristics and the performance characteristics of a C. I. engine by using the changes of the injection nozzle type and the ultrasonic-energy-added system. In order to evaluate the effect of ultrasonic energy and of change of injection nozzle type in the performance characte- ristics of a diesel engine, measurements of droplet size of diesel fuel were carried out by using Malvern system. In all types of injection nozzles, SMD of the ultrasonic- energy -added diesel fuel was smaller than that of the conventional diesel fuel and the more injection pressure increased, the more SMD decreased. There was a small increase in SMD with the distance from injection nozzle under all conditions of the injection nozzle types. The minimum SMD was found in the injection nozzle of B type. In the diesel engine test, there were three results about the engine performance. Compared with the injection nozzle of A type, B type had excellent effects in the engine performance. The most excellent effects about the engine performance were obtained in the case of ultrasonic-energy-added diesel fuel. In addition, the torque diagram in the case of ultrasonic-energy-added diesel fuel was more stable and periodical than others.

With the change in Earth's ecosystems due to climate change, a number of studies on zero energy buildings have been conducted globally, due to the depletion of energy and resources. However, most studies have concentrated on residential and office buildings and the performance predictions were made only in the design phase. This study verifies the zero-energy performance in the operational phase by acquiring and analyzing data after the completion of an exhibition building. This building was a retention building, in which a renewable energy system using a passive house building envelope, solar photovoltaic power generation panels, as well as fuel cells were adopted to minimize the maintenance cost for future energy-zero operations. In addition, the energy performance of the building was predicted through prior simulations, and this was compared with actual measured values to evaluate the energy performance of the actual operational records quantitatively. The energy independence rate during the measurement period of the target building was 123% and the carbon reduction due to the energy production on the site was 408.07 tons. The carbon reduction exceeded the carbon emission (331.5 tons), which verified the carbon zero and zero-energy performances.
Global environmental problems are growing, and the importance of buildings with high energy consumption has been emphasized. In Korea, the Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs has been promoting the mandatory zero energy building since 2020, and guidelines related to the zero energy building have been developed. In addition, based on the "Energy-saving Design Criteria for Buildings" of the "Green Building Promotion Act" in Korea, the standards for energy-saving design are specified and the energy saving plan is written. Besides, the 'Energy-saving construction standards for eco-friendly houses' also specify insulation, machinery, equipment, and sunshade. Also, there is little consideration about the cost such as construction cost and material cost which should be considered important in the construction stage. Therefore, this study aims at analysis of building type and energy performance versus materials for energy saving building design considering energy performance in planning aspect of initial design stage. In this study, because the variables can not be neglected in this study, it is selected as the lecture facility of the 'K' university campus building which can consider the remaining factors except the passive design element as the control variable, Energy performance analysis.
