  • Currently, Korea is an aging society, and it is expected to enter a super-aging society in about 4 years. Accordingly, many X-ray technologies are being developed. In X-rays, 99% of X-rays are converted into heat energy and 1% into light energy (X-rays). 99% of the thermal energy raises the temperature of the anode and its surroundings, and the cooling system is an important factor as overheating can affect the deterioration of X-ray quality and shortened lifespan. There is a method of forced air cooling using natural convection. Therefore, in this study, when X-rays were taken 5 times, Flow analysis was performed on heat removal according to temperature rise and cooling time for the heat generated at the anode of the X-ray tube (input power 60kW, 75kW, 90kW). Based on one-shot, the most rapid temperature rise section increased by more than 57% to 0.03 seconds, A constant temperature rises from 0.03 seconds to 0.1 seconds, It is judged that the temperature rises by about 8.2% or more at one time. After one-shot cooling, the cooling drops sharply from about 60% to 0.03 seconds, It is judged that the temperature has cooled by more than 86% compared to the temperature before shooting. One-shot is cooled by more than 86% with cooling time after 0.1 seconds, As the input power of the anode increases, the cooling temperature gradually increases. Since the tungsten of the anode target inside the X-ray tube may be damaged by thermal shock caused by a rapid temperature rise, an improvement method for removing thermal energy is required when using a high-input power supply.

  • The protection of the environment is one of today's key demanding international activities and interests. All of aspects including industry, economy and society should be changed into environmental friendly industries. The building is not exception in this trend. What is not generally realized is that building, in the lifecycle of construction, use and demolition, account for large construction, not considered with environment impact and conservation in the lifecycle. Expecially, the construction materials and components used in the construction stage has much embodied energy. And much $CO_2$ emit on the production of the construction material and component. The energy use and $CO_2$ emission would continuously diminish the limited natural resources and impact the environment such as ozon layer destruction. In this paper, it studied the estimation of the amount of energy use and $CO_2$ emission in the building construction stage, it would provide the estimation process and applied with the multifamily housing.

  • Temperature and humidity forecasting have been performed using artificial neural networks model(ANN). We composed ANN with multi-layer perceptron which is 2 input layers, 2 hidden layers and 1 output layer. Back propagation algorithm was used to train the ANN. 6 nodes and 12 nodes in the middle layers were appropriate to the temperature model for training. And 9 nodes and 6 nodes were also appropriate to the humidity model respectively. 90% of the all data was used learning set, and the extra 10% was used to model verification. In the case of temperature, average temperature before 15 minute and humidity at present constituted input layer, and temperature at present constituted out-layer and humidity model was vice versa. The sensitivity analysis revealed that previous value data contributed to forecasting target value than the other variable. Temperature was pseudo-linearly related to the previous 15 minute average value. We confirmed that ANN with multi-layer perceptron could support pollutant dispersion model by computing meterological data at real time.

  • We develop a low complexity cooperative diversity protocol for low energy adaptive clustering hierarchy (LEACH) based wireless sensor networks. A cross layer approach is used to obtain spatial diversity in the physical layer. In this paper, a simple modification in clustering algorithm of the LEACH protocol is proposed to exploit virtual multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) based user cooperation. In lieu of selecting a single cluster-head at network layer, we proposed M cluster-heads in each cluster to obtain a diversity order of M in long distance communication. Due to the broadcast nature of wireless transmission, cluster-heads are able to receive data from sensor nodes at the same time. This fact ensures the synchronization required to implement a virtual MIMO based space time block code (STBC) in cluster-head to sink node transmission. An analytical method to evaluate the energy consumption based on BER curve is presented. Analysis and simulation results show that proposed cooperative LEACH protocol can save a huge amount of energy over LEACH protocol with same data rate, bit error rate, delay and bandwidth requirements. Moreover, this proposal can achieve higher order diversity with improved spectral efficiency compared to other virtual MIMO based protocols.

  • Purpose: Most modern office buildings adopt the curtain wall system in order to provide occupants with the sense of openness and high-technology, which requires large window area. As a result, the amount of solar radiation increases, negatively affecting cooling load during the summer and increasing energy costs. However, the performance of window itself is not sufficiently controllable parameter to control thermal comfort and solar radiation. Therefore, a shading device such as venetian blind is required to control them and thus a variety of studies have been performed thus far. So, the purpose of this study is to improve the performance of blind through the development of blind control algorithm. Method: Among various input variables for the control of venetian blinds, the vertical solar radiation has been selected in this study as the primary input variable and the optimal control algorithm for venetian blinds were developed for each window orientation. Result: The developed optimal control algorithm has a positive effect on building energy savings.

  • As a part of electro-mechanical totally implantable artificial heart, a transcutaneous energy transmission system has been developed. By mutual magnetic induction between the first coil on the skin and the subcutaneously implanted second coil, the system transfers electrical power through the skin. This research aimed a minimizing the size of the implanted part as well as maximizing the transfer efficiency. When an air gap is 1$\sim$2cm, voltage gain and current gain low and it is hard to transfer energy due to large leakage flux. That is, the required input voltage and input current must be large compared with the output voltage and output current, respectively, This paper research the inverter topology and the control method in order to increase the voltage gain and the current gain. For this purpose, this inverter employs double tune to compensate the large leakage inductance of primary and secondary of the transcutaneous transformer. And the output energy of transcutaneous energy transmission system supply for Lithium-ion battery charger.

  • Over the last three decades, nuclear technology development has played a vital role in the socio-economic development of the Republic of Korea. This study, being the first of its kind, focuses on quantifying the actual economic contribution of nuclear technologies to economic development by evaluating the net benefit of the nuclear power with respect to the country's Gross Domestic Product (GDP). An input-output analysis was employed as a methodological approach to analyze inter-industrial economic activities by calculating the industrial value added as a means of the economic contribution during the period of 1980 to 2005. The industrial value added of nuclear technologies was estimated from the construction and operation of nuclear power (backward-linked industrial value added) and from the industrial activities attributed to the electricity generated by the nuclear power (forward-linked industrial value added). It was found that the total net contribution of nuclear technologies as a percentage share of GDP amounted to 2.38% in 2005.

  • This study presents an experiment investigation on natural convection heat transfer of air-cooling Proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs) in a enclosure system for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). Considered are replacing fuel cell stack with Aluminum block for heat generating inside a enclosure chamber. The volume ratio of fuel cell stack and chamber for simulation to the actual size of aerial vehicle is 1 to 15. The parameters considered for experimental study are the environmental temperature range from $25^{\circ}C$ to $-60^{\circ}C$ and the block heat input of 10 W, 20 W and 30 W. Effect of the thermal conductivity of the block and power level on heat transfer in the chamber are investigated. Experimental results illustrate the temperature rise at various locations inside the chamber as dependent upon heat input of fuel cell stack and environmental temperature. From the results, dimensionless correlation in natural convection was proposed with Nusselt number and Rayleigh number for designing air-cooling PEMFC powered high altitude long endurance (HALE) UAV.

  • Non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) is considered a key candidate technology for next-generation wireless communication systems due to its high spectral efficiency and massive connectivity. Incorporating the concepts of multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) into NOMA can further improve the system efficiency, but the hardware complexity increases. This study develops an energy-efficient (EE) subchannel assignment framework for MIMO-NOMA systems under the quality-of-service and interference constraints. This framework handles an energy-efficient co-training-based semi-supervised learning (EE-CSL) algorithm, which utilizes a small portion of existing labeled data generated by numerical iterative algorithms for training. To improve the learning performance of the proposed EE-CSL, initial assignment is performed by a many-to-one matching (MOM) algorithm. The MOM algorithm helps achieve a low complex solution. Simulation results illustrate that a lower computational complexity of the EE-CSL algorithm helps significantly minimize the energy consumption in a network. Furthermore, the sum rate of NOMA outperforms conventional orthogonal multiple access.

  • Building simulation is used in a variety of sectors. In its early years, building simulation was mainly used in the design phase of a building for basic functions. Recently, however, it has become increasingly important during the operating phase, for commissioning and facility management. Most building simulation tools are used to estimate the thermal environment and energy consumption performance, and hence, they require the inputting of hourly weather data. A building simulation used for prediction should take into account the use of standard weather data. Weather data, which is used as input for a building simulation, plays a crucial role in the prediction performance, and hence, the selection of appropriate weather data is considered highly important. The present study proposed a technique for generating real-time weather data files, as opposed to the standard weather data files, which are required for running the building simulation. The forecasted weather elements provided by the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA), the elements produced by the calculations, those utilizing the built-in functions of Energy Plus, and those that use standard values are combined for hourly input. The real-time weather data files generated using the technique proposed in the present study have been validated to compare with measured data and simulated data via EnergyPlus. The results of the present study are expected to increase the prediction accuracy of building control simulation results in the future.
