Lacquer Techniques in the Late Joseon Dynasty

  • This study conducted scientific analyses on eight objects of wooden lacquerware to understand the manufacturing techniques of wooden lacquerware in the late Joseon Dynasty. The results of lacquer layer analysis with a microscope and scanning electron microscopy-energy dispersive X-ray spectrometry revealed that most samples were composed of 1-3 lacquer layers. Moreover, a red-colored layer was found to be red ocher and cinnabar, and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy analysis was carried out to determine the components of the lacquer layer. The detected components were mostly lacquer and partially cashew shell nut liquid.

Synthesis and resistivity measurements of LK-99

  • Recently, a claim of material, named LK-99 (a lead apatite-based compound), exhibiting a superconducting transition temperature of over 400 K under standard atmospheric pressure, was reported [1, 2]. This claim has generated considerable attention from scientists worldwide. Here, we synthesized five LK-99 samples following the method detailed in the original papers [1, 2], and measured structural and resistivity data for each of these samples. The structure of the synthesized samples (P63/m, a=9.82 Å , c=7.34 Å ) was very close to the reported one. Contrary to the report, however, no hint of room-temperature superconductivity was noted from any of the samples. The results of Energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDXS) measurements demonstrate that the atomic distribution in the sample was inhomogenous, and unreacted precursors were included in the samples. To investigate the intrinsic superconducting properties of LK-99, we propose to synthesize samples having high structural purity and chemical uniformity.

Reciprocating Wear Test of AISI 52100 Bearing Steel in h-BN-based Aqueous Lubricants

  • In this study, reciprocating wear tests are performed on AISI 52100 bearing steel to investigate its tribological behavior in a hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) water solution. The h-BN-based aqueous lubricant is prepared using an atoxic procedure called ultrasonic sonication in pure water. Ball-on-flat reciprocating sliding experiments are conducted, where the ball is slewed on a fixed flat at 50-㎛ displacement. The lubricating behavior of h-BN is compared with that of deionized (DI) water. Results show that the friction coefficient is higher in h-BN testing than that in DI tests, but the results are equalized as the friction coefficient reaches a stable level. Scanning electron microscopic images reveal significant material loss in the center and mild abrasion on the edge of the wear scar in h-BN tests. However, these effects are minor in DI water situations. The results of energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy show that considerable oxidation occurs in the central zone of the wear scar in h-BN cases with strong adhesion and material removal. These findings reveal the importance of determining ideal circumstances that can tolerate material friction and wear.

악하선 내 타석의 미세형상 및 화학적 조성 (Micromorphology and Chemical Composition of a Sialolith in the Submandibular Gland Duct)

  • 타석은 타액선에 발견되는 흔한 병리 상태 중 하나이다. 타석의 형성과 관련된 기전은 아직까지 명확하게 밝혀지지 않았다. 본 연구에서는 악하선의 만성타액선염을 앓고 있는 58세 여성 환자로부터 얻은 타석을 전자현미경 및 에너지분산 X선 분광법을 통해 화학적인 조성과 미세형상을 분석하였다. 전자현미경 평가에서 고도로 광화된 무정형 핵이 층판의 동심원상 구조로 둘러싸인 형태가 관찰되었으나, 이물질, 유기물질 또는 미생물의 소견은 확인되지 않았다. 에너지분산 X선 분광 분석에서 중심부 핵은 Ca, O 및 P로만 구성되어 있었고, C도 중심부 근처에서 높은 함량으로 검출되었다. 이러한 결과는 타석의 무기물 조성은 주로 수산화인회석 결정으로 되어 있고 중심핵 주변으로 무기-유기 구조가 형성되어 있어, 악하선관 내 타석의 핵이 무기결정핵의 성장을 촉진하는 타액선염에 의해 이차적으로 형성되었을 가능성을 제시한다.

고분자 전해질 막 연료전지에서의 아이오딘이 코팅된 분리판의 성능 효과 (Effect of Iodine-coated Bipolar Plates on the Performance of a Polymer Exchange Membrane (PEM) Fuel Cell)

  • Polymer exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cells have multifunctional properties, and bipolar plates are one of the key components in these fuel cells. Generally, a bipolar plate has a gas flow path for hydrogen and oxygen liberated at the anode and cathode, respectively. In this study, the influence of iodine applied to a bipolar plate was investigated. Accordingly, we compared bipolar plates with and without iodine coating, and the performances of these plates were evaluated under operating conditions of $75^{\circ}C$ and 100% relative humidity. The membrane and platinum-carbon layer were affected by the iodine-coated bipolar plate. Bipolar plates coated with iodine and a membrane-electrode assembly (MEA) were investigated by electron probe microanalyzer (EPMA) and energy-dispersive x-ray spectroscopy (EDS) analysis. Polarization curves showed that the performance of a coated bipolar plate is approximately 19% higher than that of a plate without coating. Moreover, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) analysis revealed that charge transfer resistance and membrane resistance decreased with the influence of the iodine charge transfer complex for fuel cells on the performance.

메탄올 광분해 수소제조를 위한 ATiO3 (A = Ca, Sr, Ba) Perovskite 광촉매의 Ni 첨가 영향 (Effect of Ni Addition on ATiO3 (A = Ca, Sr, Ba) Perovskite Photocatalyst for Hydrogen Production from Methanol Photolysis)

  • 본 연구는 비 $TiO_2$ 계 광촉매 중 가장 널리 알려져 있는 $ATiO_3$ (A = Ca, Sr, Ba) perovskite를 sol-gel 법을 이용해 합성하였고, 골격치환이 용이한 점을 이용해 A site에 Ni을 첨가한 입자를 합성하였다. 합성한 $ATiO_3$와 Ni-$ATiO_3$ 입자의 불리화학적 특성은 X-선 회절분석(XRD), 자외선-가시선 분광광도계(UV-visible spectroscopy), 주사전자현미경 (SEM), 에너지분산형 분광분석법(EDS), 질소 등온 흡 탈착실험, X선 광전자분광법(XPS)을 이용해 확인하였다. 수소제조는 메탄올을 광분해하여 얻었으며, $ATiO_3$ 보다 Ni-$ATiO_3$ 촉매에서 높은 수소발생량을 나타내었다. 특히 Ni-$SrTiO_3$ 촉매를 사용하였을 때 24시간 반응 후 $273.84mmolg^{-1}$의 수소가 발생하였다. 또한 Ni-$SrTiO_3$ 촉매는 물(0.1 M KOH)을 분해하였을 때에도 높은 수소 제조 성능을 나타냈으며, 24시간 반응 후 $961.51mmolg^{-1}$의 수소가 발생한 것을 확인하였다.

전기 폭발법에 의해 제조된 Cu-Ni 나노 분말의 윤활성 향상 (Tribological Properties of Cu-Ni Alloy Nanopowders Synthesized by Pulsed Wire Evaporation (PWE) Method)

  • Nanoscale Cu-Ni alloy nanopowders have been produced by a pulsed wire evaporation method in an inert gas. The effect of Cu-Ni alloy nanopowders as additives to motor oil on the tribological properties was studied at room temperature. The worn surfaces were characterized by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Energy-Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (EDS). Cu-Ni alloy nanopowders as additives lowered coefficient of friction and wear rate. It was found that a copper containing layer on the worn surface was formed, and deposited layers of the metal cladding acted as lubricant on the worn surface, reducing the friction coefficient. It was clearly demonstrated that Cu-Ni alloy nanopowders as additives are able to restore the worn surface and to preserve the friction surfaces from wear.

  • 독창적 물질인 $Bi_2WO_6-GO-TiO_2$ 나노복합체를 쉬운 수열법에 의해 성공적으로 합성하였다. 수열반응을 하는 동안, 그래핀 시트 위에 $Bi_2WO_6$$TiO_2$를 도포하였다. 합성한 $Bi_2WO_6-GO-TiO_2$ 복합체형 광촉매는 X-선 회절법(XRD), 주사전자현미경(SEM), 에너지 분산 X-선(EDX) 분석, 투과전자현미경(TEM), 라만분광법, UV-Vis 확산반사 분광법(UV-vis-DRS), 및 X-선 광전자분광기(XPS)에 의하여 특성화하였다. $Bi_2WO_6$ 나노입자는 불규칙한 dark-square block 나노 플페이트 형상을 보였으며, 이산화티탄 나노입자는 퀜텀 도트 사이즈로 그래핀 시트 위 표면을 덮고 있었다. 로다민 비의 분해는 농도감소의 측정과 함께 UV 분광법에 의하여 관찰하였다. 합성된 물질의 광촉매 반응은 Langmuir-Hinshelwood 모델과 띠 이론으로 설명하였다.

Pd/Al2O3, Pd/Ag/Al2O3 분리막의 제조와 수소 투과 성능 평가 (Preparation of Pd/Al2O3, Pd/Ag/Al2O3 Membranes and Evaluation of Hydrogen Permeation Performance)

  • 본 실험에서는 α-Al2O3 세라믹 중공사를 지지체로 사용하였고, 무전해 도금을 통해 Pd 및 Pd-Ag가 도금된 수소 분리막을 제조하였다. Pd-Ag 분리막은 Pd와 Ag 합금 형태로 만들기 위하여 500℃, 10 h 동안의 annealing 과정을 거쳤으며, EDS (Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy) 분석을 통해 Pd-Ag 합금이 되었다는 것을 확인하였다. 또한, SEM (Scanning Electron Microscope) 분석을 통해 제조된 Pd 및 Pd-Ag 도금층의 두께는 약 8.98, 9.29 ㎛으로 측정되었다. 제조된 수소 분리막은 350~450℃, 1-4 bar의 범위에서 수소 단일 가스, 혼합가스(H2, N2)를 이용하여 수소 투과 실험을 진행하였다. 수소 단일 가스에서 Pd와 Pd-Ag 분리막은 최대 각각 21.85, 13.76 mL/cm2·min의 flux를 가지며, 혼합가스에서는 450℃, 4 bar의 조건일 때, 1216, 361의 separation factor가 각각 나오는 것을 확인하였다.

SUSCEPTIBILITY OF ALLOY 690 TO STRESS CORROSION CRACKING IN CAUSTIC AQUEOUS SOLUTIONS

  • Stress corrosion cracking (SCC) behaviors of Alloy 690 were studied in lead-containing aqueous alkaline solutions using the slow strain rate tension (SSRT) tests in 0.1M and 2.5M NaOH with and without PbO at $315^{\circ}C$. The side and fracture surfaces of the alloy were then examined using scanning electron microscopy after the SSRT test. Microstructure and composition of the surface oxide layer were analyzed by using a field emission transmission electron microscopy, equipped with an energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. Even though Alloy 690 was almost immune to SCC in 0.1M NaOH solution, irrespective of PbO addition, the SCC resistance of Alloy 690 decreased in a 2.5M NaOH solution and further decreased by the addition of PbO. Based on thermodynamic stability and solubility of oxide, high Cr of 30wt% in the Alloy 690 is favorable to SCC in mild alkaline and acidic solutions whereas the SCC resistance of high Cr Alloy 690 is weakened drastically in the strong alkaline solution where the oxide is not stable any longer and solubility is too high to form a passive oxide locally.
