Si-substituted biphasic calcium phosphates (Si-BCP) were prepared by co-precipitation method. X-ray diffraction and fourier transform infrared spectroscopy were used to characterize the structure of Si-BCP powders. The Si-BCP powders with various Ca/(P+Si) molar ratio were carried out on structural change of hydroxyapatite (HAp) and ${\beta}$-tricalcium phosphate ($\ss$-TCP). The in-vitro bioactivity of the Si-BCP powders was determined by immersing the powders in SBF solution, after that observing the chemical composition and morphology change by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscope and energy dispersive spectroscopy.
Background: Nanotechnology opens new applications in many fields including medicine. Among all metallic nanoparticles, silver nanoparticles (silver NPS) have proved to be the most effective against a large variety of organisms including toxic cyanobacteria. Materials and Methods: Silver NPs were biosynthesized in vivo with different alga species namely, Spirulina piatensis, Chlorella vulgaris and Scenedesmus oh/iquus following two scenarios. First: by suspending a thoroughly washed algae biomass in 1 mM aqueous $AgN0_3$ solution. Second: by culturing them individually in culture media containing the same concentration of $AgN0_3$. Silver NPs were characterized using UV-Vis spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), energy dispersive analysis (EDX) and Fourier transform infra-red (FfIR) spectroscopy. The biosynthesized silver NPs were tested for cytotoxic activity against a cancer promoter cyanobacteruim Microcystis aeruginosa, considering effects on cell viability and chlorophyll content. Results: The surface plasmon band indicated the biosynthesis of silver NPs at ~400 nm. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) revealed that the silver NPs had a mean average size below 100 nm. Energy-dispersive analysis X-ray (EDX) spectra confirmed the presence of silver element. FfIR spectral analyses suggested that proteins and or polysaccharides may be responsible for the biosynthesis of silver NPs and (-COO-) of carboxylate ions is responsible for stabilizing them. The toxic potentialities ofthe biosynthesized silver NPs against the cancer promoter cyanobacterium, Microcystis aeruginosa showed high reduction in viable cells count and the total chlorophyll content. Conclusions: The potential activity of the biosynthesized silver NPs from the studied algae species against Microcystis aernginosa cells is expected to be mainly mediated by the release of silver ions (Ag+) from the particle surface and bioactive compounds as indicated by FfIR analysis.
Fracture energy is one of the key parameters reveal cracking resistance and fracture toughness of concrete. The main purpose of this study is to determine fracture behavior, mechanical properties and microstructural analysis of high strength basalt fiber reinforced concrete (HSFRC). For this purpose, three-point bending tests were performed on notched beams produced using HSFRCs with 12 mm and 24mm fiber length and 1, 2 and $3kg/m^3$ fiber content in order to determine the value of fracture energy. Fracture energies of the notched beam specimens were calculated by analyzing load versus crack mouth opining displacement curves by the help of RILEM proposal. The results show that the effects of basalt fiber content and fiber length on fracture energy are very significant. The splitting tensile and flexural strength of HSFRC increased with increasing fiber content whereas a slight drop in flexural strength was observed for the mixture with 24mm fiber length and $3kg/m^3$ fiber content. On the other hand, there was no significant effect of fiber addition on the compressive strength and modulus of elasticity of the mixtures. In addition, microstructural analysis of the three components; cement paste, aggregate and basalt fiber were performed based on the Scanning Electron Microscopy and Energy-Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy examinations.

An electrode was prepared by dip-coating NiFe2O4 powder on stainless steel (SUS) support for the application in the alkaline water electrolysis. The prepared electrode was analyzed using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDXS), and was evaluated for the voltage properties with the change of current density in oxygen evolution reaction (OER) and hydrgen evolution reaction (HER) using 1, 3 and 7 M KOH solution. From the SEM and EDXS analysis, it was confirmed that the prepared electrode had NiFe2O4 on the SUS support. In OER and HER, the voltage in the 7 M KOH solution had a value of 1.35 and -1.90 V at 0.2 and -0.2 A/cm2 of the current density, respectively. It was considered that the prepared electrode could be use as an electrode in the alkaline water electrolysis from the experimental results.
In this paper, we studied the short circuit current and molten mark of polyvinyl chloride insulated flexible cords(VFF). The calory decreased remarkably with increase of current. The surface structure and composition of a strand wire were analyzed by stereoscope, scanning electron microscope (SEM), and energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy(EDX). The surface of a strand wire showed columnar and void. The intensity of CuL spectrum increased in melted mark.

The meat consumption produces a lot of bone waste everyday. Dumping bone waste without treatment results into environmental hazards. Conventional treatment by pyrolysis is slow, inefficient and produces hazardous by-products. In the work, an investigation of bone waste incinerated using thermal plasma technology is presented. A high temperature arc plasma torch operated at 33 kW was employed for the experiments. Bone waste was incinerated to remove the infectious organic matter and to vitrify the inorganic matter using plasma torch. Bone waste was reduced its 2/3 weight after the treatment. The process was highly efficient, economical, convenient, and fuel free. This method could be used as an alternative method for disposal of bone waste, small infectious animals, hazardous hospital waste, etc.

Metal-carbon nanoreactors (MCNRs) were prepared from a pristine carbon cage (CC) using a simple and efficient template method with nano silica ball (NSB), pyrolysis fuel oil (PFO) and transition metals, such as palladium and gold. Metal nanoparticles were embedded in approximately 25 and 170 nm sized, highly ordered carbon cages. The newly developed Pd, Au and Au-Pd doped carbon nanoreactors were characterized by microanalysis, $N_2$ adsorption-desorption isotherm, powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), thermo-gravimetric analysis (TGA), scanning electron microscopy coupled with energy dispersive spectroscopy (SEM-EDS), transmission electron microscopy and inductively coupled plasma (ICP) analysis. The ordered MCNRs have exhibited dynamic hydrogen adsorption capability compared to the carbon cage.

Flow mark is a sort of surface defect on the composite that can arise during the filling stage of the injection molding process. The purpose of this study is to clarify a mechanism of the flow mark which appears on the surface of injection molded Polypropylene (PP) through the characterization of the surface structure. The materials used in this report are PP/rubber and PP/talc compounding, which are widely used in automobile part. The flow mark shows two different constitutions, such as a luster part and a cloud part on the surface of the injection molded PP. We have investigated the surface structure of PP/rubber and PP/talc composites by using scanning electron microscope (SEM), energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy (EDAX) and optical microscopy (OM). As a result, the cloud part contains higher contents of the rubber and talc compare to the luster part.

Nanosized hollow silica was prepared by $St{\ddot{o}}ber$ method in the presence of aluminum isopropoxide. The mixture of polyelectrolytes such as poly(sodium 4-styrene sulfonate)(PSS) and polyacrylic acid(PAA) were used as templates. Tetraethylorthosilicate(TEOS) and aluminum isopropoxide were used as precursors for silica and alumina, respectively. The function of aluminum isopropoxide is to increase the porosity of silica shell. The characterizations of hollow silica were examined by TEM(transmission electron microscopy), TGA(thermogravimetric analysis), BET(Brunauer Emmett Teller), Energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy(EDS), and FT-IR spectrum. It was found that the shell thickness of hollow silica was around 8 nm and the core diameter was around 20 nm by TEM.

The environment friendly calcareous deposit films were formed on steel plates by electrodeposition technique in natural seawater and synthetic solutions such as dissolved $\textrm{Mg}^{2+}$ and $\textrm{Ca}^{2+}$ ions at various potential conditions. The influence of potential conditions on composition ratio, structure and morphology of the electrodeposited films were investigated by scanning electron microscopy(SEM), energy dispersive spectroscopy(EDS) and X-ray diffractor (XRD). Accordingly, this study was provided a better understanding of the composition between the growth of $\textrm{Mg(OH)}_2$ and that of $\textrm{CaCO}_3$ during the formation of calcareous deposit films on steel substrate under cathodically electrodeposition in synthetic and natural seawater. The results showed that the formation of good overall calcareous deposited film in seawater can be achieved by controlling the Ca/Mg ratio according to interfacial pH with the effective use of the electro deposition technique.
