In this paper, we study the initial-boundary value problem for viscoelastic wave equations of Kirchhoff type with Balakrishnan-Taylor damping terms in the presence of the infinite memory and external time-varying delay. For a certain class of relaxation functions and certain initial data, we prove that the decay rate of the solution energy is similar to that of relaxation function which is not necessarily of exponential or polynomial type. Also, we show another stability with g satisfying some general growth at infinity.

Surface states of polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) treated by plasma were investigated by the analysis by x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and surface voltage decay. Plasma treatment causes the silica-like(SiO$\_$x/, x=3∼4) oxidative layer, which is confirmed with XPS, and lowers surface resistivity from 1.78$\times$1014 Ω/square to 1.09$\times$10$\^$13/ Ω/square with increasing the plasma treatment time. By measuring the decay time constant of surface voltage, the calculated surface resistivity was compared with the value directly measured by a voltage-current method, so good agreement between two methods was obtained. It was observed that the plasma treatment led to decrease of the thermal activation energy of the surface conduction from 31.0 kJ/mol of untreated specimen to 21.8 kJ/mol. It is found that our results allow the examination of effects of plasma on electrical properties of PDMS.
A coupled room system consists of adjacent rooms and apertures where the sound energy is exchanged between the two rooms. Acoustically, a coupled room system shows a non-exponential decay profile. Most of the related researches have been to analyze the acoustic properties of two-room coupled system so far whereas three-room coupled system were seldom studied. In this regard, this paper aims to analyse the distribution of sound pressure level, sound decay curve of three-room coupled system and sound energy flow between them by using the acoustic diffusion model and to further verify them through experiments. Firstly, the sound pressure level distribution and mean sound pressure level in the steady-state condition are analyzed at various frequencies and source locations. Good agreements are observed in both experiments and analysis results. Secondly, two double slope effect quantifiers of sound attenuation, LDT/EDT and LDT/T10 are compared at various frequencies and for different source locations. The result indicates that LDT/T10, less affected by the early reflection patterns than LDT/EDT, is more suitable to the analysis and experiments of a multi-slope sound decay curve. Lastly, the sound energy flow in each room is analyzed based on the acoustic diffusion model. After the early decay stage, the sound energy is observed to flow from the room with a long reverberation time to the room with a short one.
In this present study, the luminescence characteristics and mechanism of energy $CaTiO_3$:Pr phosphor were studied using disk specimens sintered at various temperatures and envirenment. A single-phase $CaTiO_3$:Pr was synthesized by sintering above 140$0^{\circ}C$ and its crystal structure was found to be perovskite orthorhombic. A dominant peak around 360 nm and a broad peak around 395 nm were observed in the PLE(Photoluminescence Excitation) spectrum of $CaTiO_3$:Pr with fixed emission wavelength at 612 nm, the decay time of 360 nm excitation was found to be longer than that of 395 nm excitation. From this result, it is assumed that the free carrier excited to 360 nm is transferred to 395 nm energy level. Therefore, the decrease in 395 nm intensity observed in CaTiO$_3$:Pr specimens sintered in Ar gas environment induced shorter decay time and improved CL luminescence.
Successful energy conservation and good indcfor air quality (IAQ) are highly dependent on ventilation system. Air filtration is a primary solution of indoor air control strategies in terms of reducing energy consumption and improving ihdoor air quality. A conventional system with bypass filter, as it is called variable-air-volume/bypass filtration system (VAV/BPFS), is a variation of the conventional variable air volume (VAV) systems, which is designed to eliminate indoor air pollutant and to save energy. Bypass filtration system equipped with a high-efficiency particulate filter and carbon absorbent provides additional cleaned air into indoor environments and maintain good IAQ for human health. The objectives of this research were to compare the relative total decay rate of indoor air pollutant concentrations, and to develop a mathematical model simulating the performance of VAV/BPFS. All experiments were performed in chamber under the controlled conditions. The specific conclusions of this research are: 1. The VAV/BPFS system is more efficient than the VAV system in removing indoor air pollutant concentration. The total decay rates of aerosol, and total volatile organic compound (TVOC) for the VAV/BPFS system were higher than those of the conventional VAV system. 2. IAQ model predictions of each pollutant agree closely with the measured values. 3. According to IAQ model evaluation, reduction of outdoor supply air results in decreased dilution removal rate and on increased bypass filtration removal rate with the VAV/BPFS. As a results, we recommends the VAV/BPFS as an alternative to conventional VAV systems.
Kori Unit 1 is the first permanent shutdown nuclear power plant in Korea and it is on June 18th, 2017. Spent fuel assemblies began to be discharged from the reactor core to the spent fuel pool(SFP) within one week after shutdown of Kori unit 1 and the campaign was completed on June 27th, 2017. The total number of spent nuclear fuel assemblies in SFP of Kori Unit-1 is 485 and their discharging date is different respectively. So, decay heat was evaluated considering the actual enrichment, operation history and cooling time of the spent fuel assemblies stored in SFP of the Kori Unit-1. The code used in the evaluation is the ORIGEN-based CAREPOOL system developed by KHNP. Decay heat calculation of PWR fuel is based on ANSI/ANS 5.1-2005, "Decay heat power in light water reactors" and ISO-10645, "Nuclear energy - Light water reactors - Calculation of the decay heat power in nuclear fuels. Also, we considered the contribution of fission products, actinide nuclides, neutron capture and radioactive material in decay heat calculation. CAREPOOL system calculates the individual and total decay heat of all of the spent fuel assemblies in SFP of Kori Unit-1. As a result, the total decay heat generated in SFP on June 28th, 2017 when the spent fuel assemblies were discharged from the reactor core, is estimated to be about 4,185.8 kw and to be about 609.5 kw on September 1st, 2018. It was also estimated that 119.6 kw is generated in 2050 when it is 32 years after the permanent shutdown. Figure 1 shows the trend of total decay heat in SFP of Kori Unit-1.
A computer code PARS2 is developed for the analysis of PSDRS, which is the safety grade RHRS of HAMMER, and applied to the investigation of the relation between design parameters and performance of PSDRS. The concept of the heat transfer resistance network is applied in assessing the importance of the various heat transfer modes. From the analysis results, the qualitative relations between the PSDRS performance and design parameters are found and guidelines for the PSDRS design procedures are also proposed.
Using a two-dimensional numerical model, nuclide transport in the buffer between the canister and adjacent rock in a high-level radioactive waste repository is dealt with. Calculations are made for a typical case with a three-member decay chain, $^{234}$ U longrightarrow $^{230}$ Th longrightarrow $^{226}$ Ra. The solution method used here is based on a physically exact formulation by a control volume method directly integrating the governing equation over each control volume.
The energy- and time-dependent branching to the competing dissociation paths are studied by theory for coupled unimolecular dissociations of the o-, m-, and p-chlorotoluene radical cations to $C_7{H_7}^+$ (benzylium and tropylium). There are four different paths to $C_7{H_7}^+$, three to the benzylium ion and one to the tropylium ion, and all of them are coupled together. The branching to the multiple paths leads to the multiexponential decay of reactant with the branching ratio depending on both internal energy and time. To gain insights into the multipath branching, we study the detailed kinetics as a function of time and internal energy on the basis of ab inito/RRKM calculations. The number of reaction steps to $C_7{H_7}^+$ is counted for each path. Of the three isomers, the meta mostly goes through the coupling, whereas the para proceeds with little or no coupling. In the beginning, some reactants with high internal energy decay fast to the benzylium ion without any coupling and others rearrange to the other isomers. Later on all three isomers dissociate to the products via long-lived intermediates. Thus, the reactant shows a multiexponential decay and the branching ratio varies with time as the average internal energy decreases with time. The reciprocal of the effective lifetime is taken as the rate constant. The resulting rate-energy curves are in line with experiments. The present results suggest that the coupling between the stable isomers is thermodynamically controlled, whereas the branching to the product is kinetically controlled.
The cycles of heavy metals, mercury, lead and cadmium, were investigated on in dynamic grassland ecosystems at a steady state in Zoysia japonica and Miscanthus sinensis in Mt. Kwanak, Korea. Estimates of decay constants of heavy metals based on experimental and methomatical model, were Hg 0.14, Pb 0.17 and Cd 0.41 of Z. japonica grassland, and Hg 0.33, Pb 0.13 and Cd 0.56 of M sinensis grassland. The durations of reaching half of initial amounts in Z. japonica and M. sinensis grassland, were Hg 4.95, Pb 4.07 and Cd 1.69 years, and Hg 2.10, Pb 5.33 and Cd 1.24 years respectively. Times needed for 99% decomposed were longer in Z. japonica than M. sinensis grassland. Decay velocity of constituents of surface soil layers were more rapidly in M. sinensis than Z. japonica grassland. Key words: Cycles of heavy metals, Mercury, Lead, Cadmium, Zoysia japonica.
