A common language for modelling software requirements and design in recent years is Unified Modeling Language (UML). Essential principles and rules are provided by UML to help visualize and comprehend complex software systems. It has therefore been incorporated into the curriculum for software engineering courses at several institutions all around the world. However, it is commonly recognized that UML is challenging for beginners to understand, mostly owing to its complexity and ill-defined nature. It is unavoidable that we need to comprehend their preferences and issues considerably better than we do presently in order to approach the problem of teaching UML to beginner students in an acceptable manner. This paper offers a hint based approach that can be implemented along with an ordinary lab task. Some keywords are heighted to indicate class diagram component and make students to understand the textual descriptions. The experimental results indicate significant improvement in students learning skills. Furthermore, majority of students also positively responded to the survey conducted in the end experimental study.

In this paper one introduces a method of multiscale modelling called collection of dynamical systems with dimensional reduction. The method is suggested to be an appropriate approach to theoretical modelling of phenomena in mechanics of materials having in mind especially dynamics of processes. Within this method one formalizes scale of averaging of processes during modelling. To this end a collection of dynamical systems is distinguished within an elementary dynamical system. One introduces a dimensional reduction procedure which is designed to be a method of transition between various scales. In order to consider continuum models as obtained by means of the dimensional reduction one introduces continuum with finite-dimensional fields. Owing to geometrical elements associated with the elementary dynamical system we can formalize scale of averaging within continuum mechanics approach. In general presented here approach is viewed as a continuation of the rational mechanics.

Energy costs for operating and cooling computing resources in Cloud infrastructure have increased significantly up to the point where they would surpass the hardware purchasing costs. Thus, reducing the energy consumption can save a significant amount of management cost. One of major approach is removing hardware over-provisioning. In this paper, we propose a technique that facilitates power saving through reducing resource over provisioning based on virtualization technology. To this end, we use dynamic workload shaping to reschedule and redistribute job requests considering overall power consumption. In this paper, we present our approach to shape workloads dynamically and distribute them on virtual machines and physical machines through virtualization technology. We generated synthetic workload data and evaluated it in simulating and real implementation. Our simulated results demonstrate our approach outperforms to when not using no workload shaping methodology.
The current study presents a zero-one integer programming approach to determine the minimum break point set for the coordination of directional relays. First, the network is reduced if there are any parallel lines or three-end nodes. Second, all the directed loops are enumerated to reduce the iteration. Finally, the problem is formulated as a set-covering problem, and the break point set is determined using the zero-one integer programming technique. Arbitrary starting relay locations and the arbitrary consideration of relay sequence to set and coordinate relays result in navigating the loops many times and futile attempts to achieve system-wide relay coordination. These algorithms are compared with the existing methods, and the results are presented. The problem is formulated as a setcovering problem solved by the zero-one integer programming approach using LINGO 12, an optimization modeling software.

In order to avoid excessive vibration, it is required to carry out a vibration analysis of heat-exchanger/nuclear-reactor at the design stage. Information of eigen-frequency in the vibration problem is required to evaluate safety of heat-exchange/nuclear reactor. This paper describes a numerical method, Galerkin's method, to solve the eigenvalue problem occurred in a cantilever beam. The beam is restrained with added mass and spring at the free end or a node point of a mode shape. The numerical results of eigen-frequency were compared with simple analytical and experimental results given by simple approach and simple test, respectively. It is found that Galerkin's method is applicable to estimate the eigen-frequency of the cantilever beam. The frequencies become lower with increasing the added mass and the frequencies increase with the spring force. It is shown the heavy added mass has a role of support on the flexible tube. The eigen-frequency of the first mode, for the system with the added mass mounted at the free end, can be calculated by the approximate analytical method existing with more or less accuracy.
In the end-user domain of an IoT environment, there are more and more intelligent M2M devices that provide resources to create and share application services. Therefore, it can be very useful to manage trust by transferring the role of the existing centralized service provider to end users in a P2P environment. However, in a decentralized M2M computing environment where end users independently provide or consume services, mutual trust building is the most important factor. This is because malicious users trying to build malfunctioning services can cause security problems in M2M computing environments such as IoT. In this paper, we provide an integrated analysis and approach for trust evaluation of M2M application services, and an optimized trust evaluation model that can guarantee reliability among users of the M2M community.
The design of truss type sign support structures is based on the guidelines provided by the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials Standard Specifications for Highway Signs, Luminaries and Traffic Signals and the American Institute of Steel Construction Design Specifications. Using these specifications, the column design strength is normally determined using the effective length approach. This approach does not always accurately address all issues associated with frame stability, including the actual end conditions of the individual members, variations of the loads in the members, and the resulting sidesway buckling for truss type sign support structures. This paper provides insight into the problems with the simplified design approach for determining the effective lengths and discusses different approaches for overcoming these simplifications. A system buckling approach, also known as a rational buckling analysis, is used in this study to determine improved predictions for design strength of truss type sign support structures.
The recycling cell formation problem means that disposal products are classified into recycling product families using group technology in their end-of-life phase. Disposal products have the uncertainties of product condition usage influences. Recycling cells are formed considering design, process and usage attributes. In this paper, a new approach for the design of cellular recycling system is proposed, which deals with the recycling cell formation and assignment of identical products concurrently. Fuzzy ART neural networks are applied to describe the condition of disposal product with the membership functions and to make recycling cell formation. The approach leads to cluster materials, components, and subassemblies for reuse or recycling and can evaluate the value at each cell of disposal products. Disposal refrigerators are shown as an example.
This paper focuses on the problem of asymptotic stabilization for time-delay systems. To this end, a memoryless state feedback controller is proposed. Then, based on the Lyapunov method, a delay-dependent stabilization criterion is devised by taking the relationship between the terms in the Leibniz-Newton formula into account. Certain free weighting matrices are used to express this relationship and linear matrix inequalities (LMIs)-based algorithm to design the controller stabilizing the system.
