Associations between Sleep and Work-Related Cognitive and Emotional Functioning in Police Employees

  • Aim: We aimed to examine the cross-sectional and longitudinal associations between sleep and work-related impaired cognitive and emotional functioning in police employees. Methods: This study included 410 participants (52% men) employed in a police district in Norway at baseline, of which 50% also participated in the study at 6 months later follow-up. The questionnaires included items measuring work schedule, sleep length, insomnia, as well as impaired cognitive and emotional functioning at work. Results: The results showed that insomnia was related to impaired work-related emotional functioning measured at baseline, and to impaired cognitive functioning measured at both baseline and follow-up. Sleep length and rotating shift work were not associated with future decline in cognitive or emotional functioning. Conclusion: Our study indicates that the relationship between insomnia and emotional functioning at work may be transient, whereas insomnia can be related to both immediate and future impaired cognitive functioning. Replication of the findings in larger samples is advised. The findings call for an emphasis on the prevention and treatment of sleep problems among police employees as a mean of maintaining and improving cognitive and emotional functioning at work, and thereby reducing the risk for impaired performance and negative health and safety outcomes.

  • The most successful companies today are said to have strong brands. But what is a strong brand\ulcorner What makes a brand strong\ulcorner How do we build a strong brand\ulcorner This paper develops a customer-based brand equity model to help address these important questions. The developed model is a cause-and-effect model linking customer-brand relationships to rational and emotional brand associations, as well as rational and emotional brand evaluations. The customer-brand relationships are characterized by loyalty, based on both behaviour and attitude. As branding is a very complex concept, it is important to determine which of the many branding elements should be included in the model. This paper discusses why a given aspect is important for a brand's equity and which relations exist between the included variables from a theoretical perspective. The model provides insight into the creation of a brand's equity and can thus be used in the brand management process to achieve brand excellence.

한부모 가정 청소년의 부모 양육태도와 내면화 문제와의 관계에서 정서적 조절과 자아존중감의 매개효과 검증 (Parenting Behaviors and Adolescents' Internalizing Problems in Single Parent Families : Mediating Effects of Emotional Regulation and Self-Esteem)

  • This longitudinal study tested the role of adolescents' emotional regulation and self-esteem as mediators of the associations between parenting behaviors and adolescent's internalizing problems one year later in a sample of 125 adolescents aged 16 to 17 years growing up in single parent families. Structural equation modeling was used for analyses of research questions. Results indicated that time 1 parenting behaviors were not associated with time 2 adolescents' internalizing problems directly, but that time 1 and time 2 self-esteem mediated the associations between time 1 parenting behaviors and time 2 adolescents' internalizing problems.

Associations Between Grit, Sustainable Behavior, and Emotional Well-Being

  • This paper investigated the impact of grit on sustainable behavior and emotional well-being. A questionnaire about grit, sustainable behavior, and emotional well-being was administered to 273 undergraduate students in South Korea. To examine the association between the variables, this study used two spell out (SEM) comparison models. The results show that grit is positively related to sustainable behavior and emotional well-being. The effect of grit on emotional well-being was mediated by sustainable behavior. The effect of grit is higher on sustainable behavior than emotional well-being. In addition, sustainable behavior has a positive relationship to emotional well-being. The results show that the grit has an important implication for sustainable environment education and individual well-being.

기업 연상이 기업신뢰와 기업태도에 미치는 영향: 기업유형 비교를 중심으로 (The Effects of the Corporate Association on Corporate Trust and Attitude: Focusing on Comparison of Corporate Type)

  • 본 연구는 기업 연상이 기업태도에 영향을 미치는데 있어 신뢰의 매개역할을 고찰하고 있다. 특히 본 연구자들은 신뢰의 차원을 전문성 신뢰와 호의성 신뢰로 구분하고, 이러한 두 가지 신뢰가 감정적 신뢰를 매개로 기업태도에 미치는 효과를 고찰하였다. 분석결과, 기업 능력 연상은 전문성 신뢰에, 사회적 책임 연상은 호의성 신뢰에 각각 정(+)의 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났으며, 기업 유형별로 분석한 결과에서도 국내 기업과 해외 기업 모두에서 '기업 능력 연상 ${\rightarrow}$ 전문성 신뢰', '사회적 책임 연상 ${\rightarrow}$ 호의성 신뢰' 두 경로 간에 긍정적인 관계를 확인할 수 있었다. 그리고 이러한 전문성 신뢰와 호의성 신뢰는 감정적 신뢰에 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 그러나 기업유형별 추가분석 결과에 의하면, 전문성 신뢰는 기업태도에 긍정적인 영향을 미칠 것으로 예측을 하였으나, 이러한 경로결과는 해외기업의 경우에만 유의하게 나타났다. 끝으로 기업의 유형에 관계없이, 기업에 대한 감정적 신뢰가 형성되면, 해당 기업에 대한 태도에 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 결과적으로 소비자들이 기업에 대해 연상을 하고 이러한 연상으로 인하여 해당 기업에 대한 전문성 신뢰와 호의성 신뢰를 형성하게 되며, 이러한 두 가지 신뢰는 해당 기업에 대한 감정적 신뢰를 유발하고, 나아가 기업태도로까지 이어짐을 확인할 수 있었다.

In-Depth Relationships between Emotional Intelligence and Personality Traits in Meditation Practitioners

  • Objective: Meditation can elicit trait-like changes in psychological and social styles, as well as enhancement of emotional regulatory capacity. We investigated the relation between personality traits and emotional intelligence in meditation practitioners. Methods: Seventy-two long-term practitioners of mind-body training (MBT) and 62 healthy comparative individuals participated in the study. The participants completed emotional intelligence questionnaires and the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI). Results: The MBT group revealed higher scores on all five emotional intelligence factors than did those in the control group, such as emotional awareness and expression, empathy, emotional thinking, emotional application, and emotional regulation (all $p{\leq}0.001$). MBT practitioners also had higher scores on the intuition of perceiving function (t=-2.635, p=0.010) and on the feeling of the judging function (t=-3.340, p=0.001) of the MBTI compared with those in the control group. Only the MBT group showed a robust relationship with every factor of emotional intelligence and MBTI-defined intuitive styles, indicating that higher scores of emotional intelligence were related to higher scores for intuition. Conclusion: Emotional intelligence of meditation practitioners showed notable relationships with some features of personality trait. In-depth associations between emotional intelligence and personality traits would help to foster psychological functions in meditation practitioners.

  • 이 글은 $5{\cdot}18$ 관련 초상사진을 보면서 떠오른 연상들의 의미를 현상학적으로 기술한 것이다. 사진의 지시 대상은 각각 다르면서도 특이한 유형의 연상들을 불러일으킨다. 그리고 그 연상들에 따른 감정 체험도 다르게 나타난다. 따라서 이 연구의 목적은 $5{\cdot}18$ 초상사진들을 통해서 마주친 지시 대상에 대한 연상의 유형과 그 감정 체험을 기술하고, 그 의미를 구성한 것이다. 현상학에서 말하는 연상 개념들에 근거하고 있지만, 이 글에서는 연구자가 사진을 통해 직접 체험한 연상의 의미에 중점을 두어 $5{\cdot}18$민중항쟁에 대한 역사적 의미를 기술했다. 연구결과로 $5{\cdot}18$민중항쟁의 관점은 객관적인 학문 체계나 정치적인 이데올로기의 역학관계로 단순히 환수시켜 버릴 수 없다는 것이다. 그것은 항쟁에 참여한 개별자들마다의 근원적이고 충동적인 연민이 작용했고, $5{\cdot}18$민중항쟁의 근원은 이미 그들의 삶의 토대와 사랑의 공동체로서 힘의 의지에 있었다는 것이다.

아버지의 자녀에 대한 가치 및 미래 기대와 양육분담 (Fathers' Values and Future Expectations Regarding Children and Their self-evaluated Shared Parenting)

  • Objective: This study is to examine the associations between fathers' values and future expectations on children and their self-evaluated equivalence to their spouses in child rearing practices. Methods: The data were from 997 fathers with young children who participated in the Panel Study of Korean Children (2013). The associations between variables were analyzed with frequency, correlations and hierarchical analysis using SPSS 20 Program. Results: Fathers with emotional values on children or future expectations focused on their children's happiness and altruism are more willing to share child raring practices with their partners. In contrast, fathers with expectation focused on future financial success of their children are less willing to share parenting with their partners. Conclusion/Implications: Fathers' values and future expectations for their children are meaningful predictors of shared parenting in married couples with young children. However, the directions of associations differ based on which types of values and future exportations fathers have regarding their children.

수입자동차 소비자의 참여의도에 영향을 미치는 소비자-브랜드 감성관계 연구 (The effect of consumer-brand relationships on the intended consumer participation for import automobile brands)

  • 본 연구는 수입 자동차 브랜드에 관한 인식을 분석함에 있어 소비자-브랜드의 감성관계 진단 방식을 적용하는 것을 요체로 한다. 즉, 수입 명품자동차 브랜드들과 소비자의 관계를 진단하고, 관계성과인 참여의도와의 관계를 살펴보면서 국내 명품시장에서의 감성관계(emotional relationship) 중요성을 파악하고자 했다. 따라서 본 연구는 수입 자동차 브랜드라는 명품브랜드 시장에서 2008년 Top6의 판매고를 올린 BMW, 렉서스, 벤츠, 혼다, 아우디, 폭스바겐 등 6개 브랜드를 대상으로 사랑하는/자아투영적인/상호의존적인/책임감있는/친밀한/경외시하는 등의 항목을 감성관계 평가 구성요인으로, 관계의 성과로서는 참여의도를 3개 항목으로 나누어 설정하였다. 그리고 참여의도와 감성관계 항목간의 회귀분석 결과를 기반으로 명품브랜드와 소비자 간의 감성관계 척도의 타당성을 고려하면서 각 브랜드의 감성관계 차이를 비교 확인하였다. 또한, 본 연구는 수입 자동차 브랜드에 대하여 상대적으로 지식이 많은 집단과 상대적으로 적은 두 집단으로 나누어 지식의 정도에 따른 감성관계 강도에 차이가 난다는 사실을 밝혀냈고, 그 특성을 비교해볼 수 있었다. 이와 같이 본 연구는 소비자-브랜드의 감성관계를 평가해보는 것이 각 브랜드에 적합한 감성 마케팅커뮤니케이션 기획의 기반이 될 수 있음을 확인할 수 있었으며, 동시에 본 연구의 결과가 향후 보다 적극적인 감성관계마케팅 방안의 실증적 토대가 되어줄 수 있다는 데서 그 의의를 찾을 수 있었다.

어머니의 양육효능감이 유아의 정서조절력에 미치는 영향 : 어머니가 지각한 아버지 양육참여도의 역할 (The Effects of Mothers' Parenting Efficacy on Children's Emotional Regulation : The Role of Mothers' Perception of Fathers' Involvement in Child Care)

  • This study sought to illuminate a moderating effect of mother's perception of father's involvement on the associations between mother's parenting efficacy and child's emotional regulation. The participants in this study comprised 292 mothers whose children were aged between 4 and 5. The children were attending child care centers or kindergartens located in Seoul or Gyeonggi-do province in Korea. The questionnaires on mother's parental efficacy, father's parental involvement, and their children's emotional regulation were distributed to mothers through their child care centers or kindergartens. The results indicated a significant correlation among the variables. Although mothers' parenting efficacy had relatively higher effects upon their children's emotional regulation than their fathers' involvement, the effect of a fathers' involvement was still significant. In particular, the fathers' involvement in leisure activities moderated the effects of the mothers' parenting efficacy on children's emotional comprehension and regulation(one of the sub-factors of emotional regulation).
