  • The pattern of methylation draws significant attention from cancer researchers because it is believed that DNA methylation and gene expression have a causal relationship. As the interest in the role of methylation patterns in cancer studies (especially drug resistant cancers) increases, many studies have been done investigating the association between gene expression and methylation. However, a model-based approach is still in urgent need. We developed a finite mixture model in the Bayesian framework to find a possible relationship between gene expression and methylation. For inference, we employ Expectation-Maximization(EM) algorithm to deal with latent (unobserved) variable, producing estimates of parameters in the model. Then we validated our model through simulation study and then applied the method to real data: wild type and hydroxytamoxifen(OHT) resistant MCF7 breast cancer cell lines.

  • In this paper, tile SMD isolator for IMT-2000 handset is designed, fabricated and analyzed. We have designed the SMD isolator using EM Simulation tool. Electrical results have improved in comparison with a conventional model. It provides an insertion loss of 0.3 dB at 1.95GHz and an isolation of 21.5 dB or more over a frequency range of 1.92 through 1.99 GHz. The size of the isolator is $4\times4\times1.8mm^3$.

  • In this paper, LTCC stacked patch antenna with a radial CPW fed slot and grounded-shorting vertical-via wall for 19GHz band wireless LAN is presented. Suggested antenna employed a patch and grounded-shorting vertical-via wall for radiation element, consist of feeding structure which a radial open feature at the end of the CPW feed line. The optimal design parameters of the antenna using by EM simulation program. We can see that enough to bandwidth 560MHz for 19GHz band WLAN antenna specification by the optimized antenna.

  • Multipactor-free S-band duplexer based on inter-digital cavity type filter is proposed and demonstrated by in-house mulitpactor test facility for satellite RF components. Multipactor sensitivity of designed duplexer is analyzed by checking it out the maximum field accumulated region inside duplexer and calculating the electric field intensities at each resonator using 3D EM simulation in order to restrict the minimum gap distance as 2.5 mm which handles 43.13 dBm RF input power. Multipactor threshold was finally detected at 44 dBm in experiment for pulse mode test. The developed multipactor test method is cost effective, simple structure and gives a good agreement compared with the previous high cost MP test methodologies.

  • In this paper, we propose a method that applies Vector Fitting(VF) and Adaptive Frequency Sampling(ASF) technique to the equivalent circuit model for RF passive components. VF and ASF schemes are implemented to obtain the rational functions. S parameters of the equivalent circuit model is compared to those of EM simulation in case of the microstrip structure with coupled bandpass filter.

  • A shot blasting process is to improve the surface quality of stainless steels. The process is similar to a well-known shot peening that is used to strengthen the surface via the residual stress. In the shot blasting process, it is important to decide many parameters, such as the size, incident angle and velocity of shot balls, to effectively get rid of the iron oxide on the surface of stainless steels. In this study, the simulation of the shot blasting process is carried out by a finite element software, which can help to find out the optimal design parameters to cause the delamination of the iron oxide from the stainless steel substrate. The results obtained are also compared to those of the discrete element method to verify them.

  • In this paper, new design equations based on the pole-zero analysis for multi-layered interdigital stripline linear group delay bandpass filter with tap input ports are presented. As a design example, a four-pole group delay filter with center frequency of 2.14GHz, bandwidth of 160MHz, and group delay variation of $\pm$0.1nS for LTCC technology or multilayered PCB technology is designed. In the design process, it is not necessary to simulate the entire structure, as the simulation of half structures is sufficient. Good results can be attained after the optimizing process was performed three times using the proposed equations and a commercial EM simulator.

  • The microstrip patch antenna with PVDF (poly vinylidene fluoride) substrate, were experimentally studied at frequency 6 GHz. During the design of the essential elements of microstrip antenna, EM simulation tool Ensemble V 7.0 is used. We observed the resonant frequency by DC appled electric field in a microstrip patch antenna. This research has been made as an electronically tunable microstrip antenna, taking advantage of the voltage control dielectric substrate and piezoelectric properties substrate. We discuss the effect of substrates, electric field and piezoelectric phenomena in the PVDF microstrip antenna. The antenna frequency can be changed by varying the applied dc voltage. In this paper, we propose, a new technique to agile frequency of the microstrip antenna by using the PVDF piezoelectric substrate.

  • This paper addresses the development and design of the HAUSAT-l (Hankuk Aviation University SA'Tellite-D communication subsystem, which is a next generation picosatellite, developed by SSRL (Space System Research Lab.) of Hankuk Aviation University. The communication subsystem generally consumes the majority of power and volume for picosatellites, and thus its design is critical to the overall satellite and mission plans. The HAUSAT-l designs are implemented by using the 145.84 MHz for uplink and 435.84 MHz for downlink frequency bands. The simulation and test results of the homemade radio and the TNC (Terminal Node Controller) integrated on the HAUSAT - I , a picosatellite scheduled to launch on September 2004 by Russian launch vehicle "Dnepr", are presented for EM, QM and FM, respectively.

  • This paper presents millimeter wave monolithic microwave integrated circuit (MMIC) low noise amplifiers using a $0.15{\mu}m$ commercial pHEMT process. After carefully investigating design considerations for millimeter-wave applications, with emphasis on the active device model and electomagnetic (EM) simulation, we designed two single-ended low noise amplifiers, one for Q-band and one for V-band. The Q-band two stage amplifier showed an average noise figure of 2.2 dB with an 18.3 dB average gain at 44 GHz. The V-band two stage amplifier showed an average noise figure of 2.9 dB with a 14.7 dB average gain at 65 GHz. Our design technique and model demonstrates good agreement between measured and predicted results. Compared with the published data, this work also presents state-of-the-art performance in terms of the gain and noise figure.
