The elemental segregation in the sputter-deposited AgInSbTe recording thin films was studied by means of Auger electron spectroscopy and ESCA for the specimens of as-deposited and as heat-treated conditions. Auger electron spectroscopy and ESCA revealed an extremely thin layer of elemental inhomogeneity, especially for the silver, even in as-deposited condition. The chemical analysis results obtained in this alloy system are discussed in terms of process parameters and target microstructure.

In this paper, we explained characteristics of integral imaging microscope using point light source. To display the bio-medical information, which is captured as a form of the elemental images, using autostereoscopic displays, the characteristics analysis of three-dimensional information is required. For integral imaging microscope using point light source array, the elemental image capturing configuration has to satisfy a specific condition. We explain the condition to capture the elemental images and show the experimental results.
Biomass is considered to be a major potential fuel and renewable resource for the future. In fact, there is high potential to produce significant amount of energy from biomass around the world. In spite of the potential, there are a few efforts in biomass utilization in this nation. In this study, elemental biomass data was obtained with respect to the amount and calorific values of agricultural residues. Rice straw and husks were not included in the evaluation due to their demand from alternative uses such as livestock feedings, bedding materials, and so forth. Dry basis high calorific values are about 4,500 kcal/kg for all the agricultural residues investigated, similar to literature data. Energy densities or unit area energy value, from pepper and sesame were significant and comparable to those of woody biomass. These elemental data for biomass resources will Provide the background of Planning and development of biomass energy Program, which is getting more feasible along with advances in energy conversion technologies such as micro gas turbines.

In order to obtain specific magnetic properties, it is of paramount importance to increase the alloy density of components fabricated by powder metallurgy. An alternative to increase the density of alloys such as Fe-49Co-2V would be the use of elemental Fe and Co instead of the pre-alloyed powder. Trying to give some insight on the industrial application of this strategy, this paper investigates the replacement of more conventional pre-alloyed Fe-49Co-2V powders with elemental Fe and Co. A previous analysis shows that it is possible to achieve higher densities and leads to a noticeable improvement in some important magnetic properties.
PIXE( Proton Induced X- ray Emission ) analysis has been applied to the analysis of aerosol for the Purpose of pollution monitoring. Coarse and fine Particle fractions were sampled selectively, using Nuclepore filter in stacked filter units, once a month from February to September in 1993 at urban and rural sites. Concentration of 9 elements, Si, S, K, Ca, Mn, Fe, Cu, Zn and Pb was determined without Pretreatment of Samples. Comparison of data between urban and rural site revealed higher elemental concentration level in urban aerosol. From April to May aerosol sampling was carried out daily to observe the effect of Yellow Sand on the composition of aerosol in the Korean Peninsula. During the Yellow Sand period, Si, Ca, Fe content level in aerosol became more than 5 times higher than normal. The elemental concentration of the aerosol samples of Daejeon City was compared with that of two foreign cities. S and Pb( which are fuel- derived elements) levels in Daejeon City aerosol appeared to be lower than those of foreign cities. And it may be due to the leaded-fuel restriction policy of Korean government since 1987.
We present elemental abundances of 12 red giants obtained with the BOAO 1.8m telescope and its fiber-fed echelle spectrograph. We perform the abundance analysis using the Kurucz model atmosphere and MOOG. Comparisons of our alpha- and neutron-capture elemental abundances and those in globular clusters and nearby dwarf galaxies will be presented.
A method for extracting the elemental information for an efficient representation of the boundary of industrial parts, from the contours of the mechanical parts, is presented. We have analyzed the performance of the boundary representation using lines and circles. We have also analyzed and compared the performance of the proposed method with that of CW tracking-RL searching method. The result of the analysis has shown that the method suggested in this paper is twice faster than CW tracking-RL searching method. The same result could also be observed in experiments.
This study analyzed mass concentrations of TSP, PM10 and PM2.5 and elemental constituents according to the isentropic backward trajectories of air parcel from Cheongwonin East Asia during the period January - October, 2011. Mass concentrations of the continental polluted airflow (CP) showed levels of TSP and PM10 mass concentrations higher than the continental background airflow (CB). Also, PM2.5 mass concentrations of anthropogenic fine particles ran higher in CP than in CB. The elemental constituents and elemental constituent ratio ended up varying depending on the origin of atmospheric aerosols generated. The average absolute content of elemental constituents reached its height in CB, the ratio of anthropogenically originating elements (PE) among the all elements (AE) analyzed marked a high in CP, and Mg+Na/AE reached its height in the oceanic airflow (OA). At the same time, TSP, PM10 and PM2.5 mass concentrations, the ratio of PM2.5/TSP and PE/AE element ratio ran higher in CP than CB. Episodes of large-scale transport of atmospheric pollutants as observed at Cheongwon were 8 cases and 22 days. The ratios of PM10, PM2.5 among TSP mass concentrations showed different results and the ratios of PM2.5 showed an increasing trend in the episodes of anthropogenic air pollution transport. Overall, dustfall episodes show a level of elemental constituents higher than those of anthropogenic air pollution.Dustfall episodes were observed to contain more of Fe, Al and Ca originating from continental soils and those of air pollution were observed to contain more of Zn, Mn, Cu and Pb. By difference in contents of absolute elemental constituents, episodes of anthropogenic air pollution showed a high PE/AE rate, and dustfall episodes a high SE/AE rate.
Many of the complex materials developed today derive their unique properties from the presence of multiple phases or from local variations in elemental concentration. Simply performing analysis of the bulk materials is not sufficient to achieve a true understanding of their physical and chemical natures. Secondary ion mass spectrometer (SIMS) has met with a great deal of success in material characterization. The basis of SIMS is the use of a focused ion beam to erode sample atoms from the selected region. The atoms undergo a charge exchange with their local environment, resulting in their conversion to positive and negative secondary ions. The mass spectrometric analysis of these secondary ions is a robust method capable of identifying elemental distribution from hydrogen to uranium with detectability of the parts per million (ppm) or parts per billion (ppb) in atomic range. Nano secondary ion mass spectrometer (Nano SIMS, Cameca Nano-SIMS 50) equipped with the reactive ion such as a cesium gun and duoplasmatron gun has a spatial resolution of 50 nm which is much smaller than other SIMS. Therefore, Nano SIMS is a very valuable tool to map the spatial distribution of elements on the surface of various materials In this talk, the surface imaging applications of Nano SIMS in KBSI will be presented.

A recent benchmarking effort, under the auspices of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) Nuclear Energy Agency (NEA), has been made to evaluate the current state of modeling and simulation tools available to model fluoride salt-cooled high temperature reactors (FHRs). The FHR benchmarking effort considered in this work consists of several cases evaluating the neutronic parameters of a 2D prismatic FHR fuel assembly model using the participants' choice of simulation tools. Benchmark participants blindly submitted results for comparison with overall good agreement, except for some which significantly differed on cases utilizing a molybdenum-bearing control rod. Participants utilizing more recently updated explicit isotopic cross sections had consistent results, whereas those using elemental molybdenum cross sections observed reactivity differences on the order of thousands of pcm relative to their peers. Through a series of supporting tests, the authors attribute the differences as being nuclear data driven from using older legacy elemental molybdenum cross sections. Quantitative analysis is conducted on the control rod to identify spectral, reaction rate, and cross section phenomena responsible for the observed differences. Results confirm the observed differences are attributable to the use of elemental cross sections which overestimate the reaction rates in strong resonance channels.
