  • In this work the results of the systematic investigations on the effect of organic addition by using polymer compound as starting materials on the superconducting properties of YBCO electrophoretic deposited films on silver substrate are presented. The characteristics of the films were examined by X-ray diffraction and SEM observation. Our results show that the adhesion and microstructure of these films are sensitive to the nature of polymer compounds and sintering conditions (electrophoretic deposition, drying and heat-treatment procedures). To develop optimum microstructures for samples processed in this manner it is necessary to have an understanding of how these processes affect the microstructure and hence the properties of ceramic superconductors.

  • In electrophoresis, it is studied to get best condition of suspension media with alcoholic system for superconducting film. High-temperature superconductor films of $YBa_{2}Cu_{3}O_{7-x}$ were fabricated by electrophoretic deposition(EPD) from alcohol-based suspension. Maximum stability is observed for the suspension containing iso-alcohol as dispersion medium. However, for the formation of a dense and adherent coating of YBCO on a silver substrate by EPD. the best results were obtained in mixing PrOH and BuOH suspension. The superconducting critical current density($J_c$) was $1,200A/cm^2$ for the films deposited in 30% iso-PrOH and 70 % iso-BuOH suspension.

  • Systematic research of metal alkoxide electrophoretic deposition has been developed. The formation mechanism of electrophoretic deposits has been offered. The structure study of dry and heat-treated electrophoretic deposits has been established. The concrete examples of one and bi-component oxide thin film formation were considered. The new approaches for thin film technology have developed on various substrates of different shapes and sizes. The correlation between thin film structure, mechanism of their formation, and physico-chemical properties has been determined.

  • Thick inorganic-organic hybrid films were prepared on ITO-coated glass substrates by the electrophoretic sol-gel deposition of polyphenylsilsesquioxane particles. The morphology of the deposited films changed from the aggregate of the spherical particles to monolith by heat treatment at temperatures higher than $200^{\circ}C$. Transparency of the films was significantly improved accompanied by the morphological change of the particles. The degree of the morphological change was governed by two factors; maximum heat treatment temperature and heating rate. Transparent thick films of ca. 3$\mu\textrm{m}$ in thickness were obtained only by heat treatment at $400^{\circ}C$ for 2h with rapid heating from room temperature to $400^{\circ}C$. These films obtained were strongly adhered to the ITO-coated glass substrates and has a very smooth surface.

  • Restenosis after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) continues to be a serious problem in clinical cardiology. To solve this problem, drug eluting stents (DES) with antiproliferative agents have been developed. Variable local drug delivery systems in the context of stenting require the development of stent manufacture, drug pharmacology and coating technology. We have worked on a system that integrates electrophoretic deposition (EPD) technology with the polymeric nanoparticles in DES for local drug delivery and a controlled release system. The surface morphology and drug loading amount of DES by EPD have been investigated under different operational conditions, such as operation time, voltage and the composition of media. We prepared poly-D,L-lactide-co-glycolic acid (PLGA) nanoparticles embedded with curcumin, which was done by a modified spontaneous emulsification method and used polyacrylic acid (PAA) as a surfactant because its carboxylic group contribute negative charge to the surface of CPNPs (?53.5 ± 5.8 mV). In the process of ‘trial and error' endeavors, we found that it is easy to control the drug loading amount deposited onto the stent while keeping uniform surface morphology. Accordingly, stent coating by EPD has a wide application to the modification of DES using various kinds of nanoparticles and drugs.

  • This paper suggests an automatic electrophoretic deposition (EPD) robot system using a color mono camera. The EPD robot system consists of a 2 DOF rectangular robot to practically carry out EPD tasks, and a color mono camera to automatically control the robot. The screws are used to actuate the robot with low speed of 10mm/s for EPD tasks. The color mono camera detects the color marks attached to the robot and beakers, and obtains their positions. The obtained positions are used for automatic robot control. Also, the camera recognizes the combinations of the markers attached to the beakers, and determines the selected EPD task among various predetermined EPD tasks with different working parameters. Finally, experimental results are shown for verifying the effectiveness of the suggested EPD robot system.

  • In order to improve the surface uniformity and the conduction properties of the fabricated YBCO thick films, a system that applies alternating field vertically to the EPD field has been developed for the first time and applied to the electrophoretic deposition process. The applied alternating electric field caused a force to be exerted on each YBCO particle and resulted in a shaking of the particle in the direction of applied electric field, accomplishing a uniform particle orientation. The usual commercial electrical power was used for the vertically applied alternating voltage and the induced electric field was 25-120 V/cm at 60Hz. The thick film fabricated by the method developed in this paper showed better surface uniformity without crack and porosity and improved film characteristics such as critical temperature ($T_{c,zero}$ : 90 K) and critical current density ($2354\;A/cm^2$). Therefore, it is expected that the shaky-aligned electrophoretic deposition method can be used to fabricate superconductor films through a simpler process and at less expense.

  • In order to improve the surface uniformity and the conduction properties of the fabricated YBCO thick films, a system that applies alternating field vertically to the EPD field has been developed for the first time and applied to the electrophoretic deposition process. The applied alternating electric field, so called Shaky Alternating Assisted Field, caused a force to be exerted on each YBCO particle and resulted in a shaking of the particle in the direction of applied electric field, accomplishing a uniform particle orientation. The usual commercial electrical power was used for the vertically applied alternating voltage and the induced electric field was 25-120 V/cm at 60Hz. The thick film fabricated by the method developed in this paper showed better surface uniformity without crack and porosity and improved film characteristics such as critical temperature (Tc,zero = 90 K) and critical current density (2354 A/$\textrm{cm}^2$), Therefore, it is expected that the shaky-aligned electrophoretic deposition method can be used to fabricate superconductor films through a simpler process and at less expense.
