Rare earth based calcium aluminate phosphor ($CaAl_2O_4:Eu^{2+}$, $Nd^{3+}$) supported $TiO_2$ nanoparticles are synthesized by using sol-gel method, which are further characterized using powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), fourier transform infrared (FT-IR), diffuse reflectance UV-Visible spectroscopy (DRS UV-Vis) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The XRD pattern of as-prepared and sintered phosphor supported $TiO_2$ does not show the tendency to change the crystal structure from anatase to rutile phase up to $600^{\circ}C$. This indicates that the phosphor support might inhibit the densification and crystallite growth by providing dissimilar boundaries. The diffuse reflectance spectral (DRS) measurements showed shift towards longer wavelength indicating reduction in the band-gap energy as compared to free $TiO_2$. The FT-IR spectra of phosphor supported $TiO_2$ nanoparticles show shift in the peak positions to lower wavelengths. This indicates that the $TiO_2$ nanoparticles are not free, but covalently bonded to the phosphor support. TEM micrographs show presence of crystalline and spherical $TiO_2$ nanoparticles (8 - 15 nm diameter) dispersed uniformly on the surface of phosphor.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of EDTA irrigant according to application time and temperature. 31 human mature extracted teeth with a single canal were sectioned with microtome in 3mm thickness and gained 62 samples of root canals. They were distributed randomly into 6 groups of 10 specimens each and control group of 2 specimens. Each specimen was prepared with GT rotary file (Dentsply, Maillefer Co., Swiss) and irrigated with 3 ml sodium hypochlorite every minute. Then smear layer was removed with EDTA solution (PULPDENT$^{\circledR}$, PULPDENT Co., USA.) except two control specimens. Specimens of each group were irrigated with 17% EDTA. The time and temperature of application were as follows : (Table omitted) All specimens were split longitudinally and prepared for examination by scanning electron microscopy. A set of reference micrographs was used to award a debris score as follows: 0 = no smear layer, all tubules clean and open; 1 = no superficial smear layer, tubule openings visible, but some contain debris plug or soft tissue remnants: 2 = moderate smear layer, some tubules open and others closed; 3 = heavy smear layer, most/all tubule openings obscured. Results were evaluated with Kruskal-Wallis test to determine whether there was statistically significant difference among six groups. Pairs of groups were analyzed using the Student-Newman-Keuls Method and Mann-Whitney test. The results were as follows : 1. Control specimens showed heavy smear layer at the canal walls 2. Among the groups applied with EDTA for 2 minutes, group 1 showed the heaviest smear layer, and there was statistically significant difference between group 1 and the other groups(p<0.05). 3. Among the groups applied with EDTA for 5 minutes, group 4 and group 6 showed smear layer but there was no significant difference between them. 4. Among the groups applied with EDTA for the same temperature, group 1 showed heavier smear layer than group 4, and there was statistically significant difference(p<0.05). 5. Among the groups applied with EDTA for the same temperature, group 2 showed heavier smear layer than group 5 and group 3 showed heavier smear layer than group 6. But there was no statistically significant difference among them. From the results above, it could be concluded, EDTA solution is effective in removing of smear layer when it is applied for 5 minutes. If EDTA is applied for 2 minutes, it should be applied above room temperature.

In order to develop Houenia dulcis with natural food application the effect of Hovenia dulcis fruits powder content the physical, textural and sensory properties of noodles were examined. The analysis of the contents of free amino acids showed that 17 kinds of amino acids were detected and highest in 3$\%$ Hovenia dulcis fruits powder contents. The weight and the volume of cooked noodle were highest in control the more added of Houenia dulcis fruits powder contorts lessen the weight and the volume (p < 0.01, p < 0.001), the water absorption ratio was highest in control group. Hunter color value of noodle showed that L value was 7.62 in control, a and b values were highest in 5$\%$ added group. More added Houenia dulcis fruits powder contents increased a and b values (p < 0.001). Hardness, cohesiveness (p < 0.05), gumminess and brittleness (p < 0.001) were highest in control, springiness was highest in 1$\%$ added group (p < 0.001). Scanning electron micrographs of noodle showed that more added of Houenia dulcis fruits powder contents made the particle uniform, so softer and larger. Sensory properties showed that color of noodle and herb flavor were thicker in more added of Houenia duzcis fruits powder contents (p < 0.001). The taste was highest in 3$\%$ added Houenia dulcis fruits powder contents. Overall acceptability was also highest in 3% added group (p < 0.01).
This study was performed to evaluate the potentiality of Reynoutria elliptica Migo., being used as a folk remedy and a herb medicine for urethritis, cystitis, etc., on growth inhibition of Helicobacter pylori which is known as the ulcerogenic pathogen. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) value of methanol extract from Reynoutria elliptica Migo, was determined to be 120 ppm for H. pylori and urease activity derived from H. pylori was inhibited over 80% by the extract at 2 mg/mL in urea broth. Among various solvent fraction of the methanol extract, the hexane fraction showed a significant inhibitory effect on the growth of H. pylori reducing both its growth and urease activity. Scanning and transmission electron micrographs of H. pylori treated with the methanol extract at 2 mg/mL for 3 hr showed that the cell walls and membranes were disrupted so that the cytoplasmic components were leaked from the body. These results suggest that Reynoutria elliptica Migo. possesses a therapeutic potential on the gastric disease caused by H. pylori.
Mast cells (MCs) are granulated cells that play a pivotal role in allergic reaction and inflammation. The granules of mast cells are known to be rich in zinc (Zn). Male Sprague-Dawley rats were used. We injected $200{\mu}L$ of complete Freund's adjuvant (CFA) subcutaneously in the dorsal aspect of one hindpaw Finally, zinc selenium autometallography(AMG) was done by Danscher's method. The present study showed the ultrastructures of zinc-containing mast cells found in inflammatory area following an complete freund's adjuvant (CFA) inoculation into the rat hindpaw. At light microscopic level, mast cells were round or oval, at average $12{\mu}m$ in diameter, with many filopodia extending from the cell surface. Because the rather small and spherical nucleus was centrally placed; it was frequently obscured by the cytoplasmic granules, it sometimes could not be seen. Mast cells were distributed chiefly in the vicinity of small blood vessels. In most preparation many mast cells were ruptured and their granules escaped into the surrounding tissue. In electron micrographs, The secretory granules were at average $0.5{\mu}m$ in diameter and were limited by a membrane. The cell surface contained numerous microvilli and folds. Their interior was heterogenous in appearance. The nucleus was surrounded by large numbers of prominent vesicels and a well developed Golgi apparatus, but scant endoplasmic reticulum.
Ultrastructural changes in the chloroplast of apple fruits was examined with Malus Pumila Mill var. Fugi harvested during preclimacteric stage the subatmospheric pressure storage condition at 380mmHg, $20^{\circ}C$. Electron micrographs obtained from the fruits stored at 760mmHg, $20^{\circ}C$ indicated that the initiation of ultrastructural changes is in parallel with the onset of respiratory climacteric. Chloroplast of the apple fruits stored for 25 days is vacuolated and the lamellar system are a little disorganized. Chloroplast of the apple fruits stored for 50 days is showing extensive vacuolation, the lamellar system are completely disorganized and the plasma membrane has pulled away from the cell wall. In the case of subatmospheric presssure storage caused to delay the onset of ultrastructural changes in chloroplast such as vacuolation, disorganization of lamellar system and dispersal of stroma lamella about 2 months. These results suggested that ripening of apple fruits is correlated not only to the activity of respiration but to the involvement of ultrastructural changes in fruit cells. The evidences obtained here led to the conclusion that subatmospheric pressure treatment extends storage life of apple fruits by inhibiting ultrastructural changes of cell organelles in concomitance with respiratory activity.

To develop the Instant Nuroong-gi in a short reconstitution time, we made puffed Instant Nuroong-gi samples and investigated their physicochemical characteristics. The Nuroong-gi was prepared using a Japonica variety with three different cooking conditions: steam cooker(process A), pressure cooker (process B) and cabinet cooker(process C). The Instant Nuroong-gi is produced by adding water to the Nuroong-gi which is broken into the size of 0.5~1.0cm. The amount of the added water is 40% of the weight of the broken Nuroong-gi. And it was puffed at 160~17$0^{\circ}C$ for 30 secands. The water binding capacity of Instant Nuroong-gi samples was 7.2 at process A, 6.5 at process B and 6.6 at process C. The total sugar content of Instant Nuroong-gi samples in hot water reached at the highest level at 3-minute cooking time. Through the sensory evaluation by a panelists, we discovered that Instant Nuroong-gi prepared by a steam cooker showed the highest roasted nutty taste, hardness, stickiness and overall acceptability. And Instant Nuroong-gi prepared by a pressure cooker showed the highest color, clearness, and roasted nutty flavor. Correlation coefficients between overall acceptability and other sensory attributes of Instant Nuroong-gi indicated that hardness had the most significant correlation to sensory evaluations. When we compared the results of color test with those of sensory evaluation of Instant Nuroong-gi prepared by three different cookers, we discovered that panelists preferred yellow Instant Nuroong-gi prepared by a pressure cooker. We found some morphological properties of Instant Nuroong-gi as a result of the comparison of the crystalization by a X-ray diffraction analysis and the observation of the shapes by a the scanning electron micrographs.

The immobilization and consolidation of the model coatings based on the plastic pigment and latex binder of known particle sizes were theoretically Studied in terms of the dense random packing of binary spheres and varying extent of latex film shrinkage. The porosity of the model coatings was calculated based on three proposed latex shrinkage models: Maximum, Minimum, and Linearly Decreasing Latex Shrinkage. The increasing extent of latex shrinkage was calculated up to the critical pigment volume concentration(CPVC) as a function of plastic pigment volume fractions, and the maximum latex shrinkage was estimated from the CPVC. Also, the number of pores and the average equivalent spherical pore diameters were calculated based on those proposed models. The opacity and gloss of the model coatings on polyester films were measured and their porosity was also determined by a simple coat weight-thickness method. As expected, various coating structure-property-composition relationships, such as opacity, gloss, porosity, etc., were shown to exhibit sharp transitions near the CPVC. The CPVC values determined by the opacity, gloss, and porosity vs. PVC relationships, respectively, agreed very well with each other. Especially, the CPVC's determined by the opacity and porosity vs. PVC curves were identical. The comparison between the theoretically calculated and experimental porosity values showed that the intermediate value between the maximum and minimum latex shrinkage would best fit the experimental porosity data. The effect of plastic pigment particle size on the optical properties and porosity of model coatings was also studied and it was observed that the coating opacity and porosity increased with increasing plastic pigment particle size, but the gloss decreased. The ink gloss of the uncalendered model coatings applied onto commercial sheet offset coated papers was shown to be affected by both the coating gloss and porosity: the higher the coating gloss, the higher the ink gloss, but the higher the coating porosity, the lower the ink gloss. Their printability was also studied in terms of the number of passes-to-fail and the rate of ink setting as a function of both plastic pigment volume fractions and plastic pigment particle sizes. A minimum crack-free temperature(MCR) of latex-bound coatings was proposed to better predict the behaviors of latexes as coating binders. The wet state of model coating dispersions, the surfaces of consolidated model coatings, and their internal structure were examined by both electron and atomic force microscopy, and their micrographs were found to be consistent with our immobilization and consolidation models.

This study aims to find out a suitable cryoprotective agent (CPA) for cryopreservation and its optimum concentration in order to conduct planned artificial seed production of Pacific oyster, Crassostrea gigas and to preserve superior sperm. For this, we tried to understand toxicity and the effect of cryopreservation by CPA type and concentrations first and then looked into cell damage of the sperm after thawing. Toxicity analysis on the sperm of Pacific oyster according to different CPA and immersion time shows that dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) comes first when it comes to survival rate and mobility followed by ethylene glycol (EG), glycerol and methanol. To identify the optimum CPA and its level, filtered seawater was used as a diluent before cryopreservation for 30 days. As a result, cryopreserved sperm of Pacific oyster with 15% of DMSO showed the highest survival rate and activation. Also, we observed the cryopreserved and thawed sperm with Scanning electron micrographs by CPAs and concentrations. Consequently, DSMO showed the lowest cell damage followed by EG, methanol, glycerol and the level was 15, 20, 10, 5% respectively. In a nutshell, it is proven that the optimum CPA and its level is 15% of DMSO.

Polymer composite are increasingly considered as structural components for use in civil engineering, on account of their enhanced strength-to-weight ratios. Unsaturated polyester (UP) resin have been widely used for the matrix of composites such as FRP and polymer composite, due to its excellent adhesive. Polymer nanocomposites are new class of composites derived from the nano scale inorganic particles with dimensions typically in the range of 1 to 1000 nm that are dispersed in the polymer matrix homogeneously. Owing to the high aspect ratio of the fillers, mechanical, thermal, flame, retardant and barrier properties are enhanced without significant loss of clarity, toughness or impact strength. To prepare the MMT (Montmorillonite)-UP exfoliated nanocomposites, UP was mixed with MMT at $60^{\circ}C$ for 3 hours by using pan mixer. XRD (X-ray diffraction) pattern of the composites and TEM (Transmission Electron Micrographs) showed that the interlayer spacing of the modified MMT were exfoliated in polymer matrix. The mechanical properties also supported these findings, since in general, tensile strength, modulus with modified MMT were higher than those of the composites with unmodified MMT. The thermal stability of MMT-UP nanocomposite is better than that of pure UP, and its glass transition temperature is higher than that of pure UP. The polymer concrete made with MMT-UP nanocomposite has better mechanical properties than of pure UP. Therefore, it is suggested that strength and elastic modulus of polymer concrete was found to be positively tensile strength and tensile modulus of the MMT-UP nanocomposites.
