Driving and pick-off using electromagnetic force for a cylindrical vibratory gyroscope is considered. A gyroscope consisting of thin cylindrical vibrating element and electromagnetic drive and pick-off element is designed, fabricated and tested. The results of the proposed pick-off method were compared with the results of the highly precise laser interferometer and eddy current sensor as it was used as the reference standard. Through the experiment, it is verified that the proposed electromagnetic driving and pick-off method can be an effective alternative to conventional electrostatic or piezo-electric methods.

MPF(Magnetic pulse forming) process refers to the high velocity and high strain rate deformation of a low-ductility materials driven by electromagnetic forces that are generated by the rapid discharge current through forming coil. The goal of this study was to find the characteristics of dynamic behavior of workpiece and to find the main design process on MPF using bar forming coil. For these purposes, thin Al5053 sheet were used for the experiment. The measured strain data were analyzed by developed electromagnetic FE-model. The main design parameter is location of coil, electromagnetic force. In case of the bar forming coil, there exists the dead regions where the low electromagnetic force applied on the workpiece.

In this paper, a simulation method of the internal winding fault is proposed to calculate winding current and electromagnetic force in a distribution power transformer by suing FEM program. The model of the transformer is a single phase, 60[Hz], 1[MVA], 22.9[kV]/220[V], cable-type winding. The short-circuit current and electromagnetic force are calculated by FEM(Finite Element Method) program(Flux2D) and the results we verified with theoretical formula and PSPICE program. The simulation results are fairly good agreement with the other verified methods within 5[%] error rate. The turn-to-turn short-circuit current is 500 times of the rated current and the electromagnetic force is about $20{\sim}200times$. The method presented in this study may serve as one of the useful tools in the electromagnetic force analysis of the transformer winding behavior under the short circuit condition for design of the structure.
These days, the quality of goods is required to improve in the process of manufacturing the semiconductor through the short working hours and clean transportation. The non-contact transport device using magnetic levitation can be a solution in the manufacturing process. The non-contact transport device, using electromagnetic actuation, is the system that can actually transport them by only using attraction force from the electromagnetic source without authentic contact. Moreover, the system using electromagnetic force has a substantial number of benefits ranging from unrestricted design to unlimited expansion. Especially, the price is competitive. The non-contact transport device, using electromagnetic force, has another merits in controlling by giving the same amount of attraction force to ferromagnetic body. By controlling the currents given to coil, the operator is able to decide the direction of the transportation. In order to design the optimal system, we implemented five different things such as the presence of the links below the electromagnetic, the electromagnet changes due to coupling method, the change according to the thickness of the links below electromagnet, due to changes in between electromagnetic distance direction, and the size of the current. Through simulations and the optimum design, it seems to control easily and figure out the exact size of power. It might definitely be the non-contact transport that can sharply reduce tiny scratches and particles in the process of manufacturing the semiconductor.
A feasibility study on the alternating jet flow under the static electromagnetic field was carried out. When a fluid with electrical conductivity lies in the static electromagnetic field and moves electric current occurs in the fluid. Due to the electromagnetic field and the electric current, lorentz force generates in the fluid, which undergo the 'breaking' effect to the fluid. In order to simulate the complex fluid flow in the magnetic field, electromagnetic and fluid flow analysis need to be solved simultaneously. In the present study, a SOLA (SOLution Algorithm) scheme was used in order to calculate electromagnetic and fluid flow field. Jet flow without an electromagnetic field was compared with analytical solution in order to validate the flow analysis scheme. Effect of jet velocity on the flow pattern down the jet was investigated.

Equations have been derived for computing electromagnetic forces by using the Continuum Design Sensitivity Analysis based on the Continuum Mechanics and the Virtual Work Principle. The resultant expressions have similar terms relating to the Korteweg-Holmholz force density, Maxwell Stress Tensor and Magnetic Charge Method but numerical implementation of the proposed scheme leads to efficient calculation and improved accuracy. In addition, the method can be easily applied to computing the magnetic force distribution as well as the global force. Results show the aforementioned advantages in comparison with the conventional methods.
Electric machines such as motors which have moving parts are desgined for producing mechanical force or torque. The accurate calculation of electromagnetic force and torque is important in the design these machines, Electromagnetic force calculation method using the results of Finite Element Method(FEM) has been presented variously in 2-D problems. Typically the Maxwell's Stress Tensor method and the method of virtual work are used. In the problems including current source, magnetic vector potentials(MVP) have mostly been used as an unknown variables for field analysis by numerical method; e, g. FEM. This paper, thus, introduces both methods using MVP in 3-D case. To verify the usefulness of presented methods, a solenoid model is chosen and analyzed by 3-D and axisymmetrical FEM. In each case, the calculated force are tabulated for several mesh schemes.
This paper deals with a uniform cantilever Euler-Bernoulli beam subjected to follower and transversal force at its free end as a model for a pipe conveying fluid under electromagnetic damper force. The electromagnetic damper is composed of a permanent-magnet DC motor, a ball screw and a nut. The main objective of the current work is to reduce the pipe vibration resulting from the fluid velocity and allow it to transform into electric energy. To pursue this goal, the stability and vibration of the beam model was studied using Ritz and Newmark methods. It was observed that increasing the fluid velocity results in a decrease in the motion of the free end of the pipe. The results of simulation showed that the designed semiactive electromagnetic damper controlled by on-off damping control strategy decreased the vibration amplitude of the pipe about 5.9% and regenerated energy nearly 1.9 (mJ/s). It was also revealed that the designed semi-active electromagnetic damper has better performance and more energy regeneration than the passive electromagnetic damper.

Electromagnetic forces generate vibrations in the end-winding of large generators. A finite element analysis using a commercial S/W is performed to calculate electromagnetic force of end-winding in two pole generator for 500 MW fossil power plant. Also, this paper presents analytical and experimental modal analysis results of generator end- winding. Using validated FE model, 3D electromagnetic model which computes the forces on the end-winding is coupled with a 3D mechanical model which calculates the dynamic displacement and stress under electromagnetic forces. These results will be used to evaluate reliability of end-winding and applied to update model.

This study deals with the dynamic response of a rotor in Switched Reluctance Motor(SRM) caused by the unbalance force such as the unbalanced mass and electromagnetic force. The method to analyze the mechanical response of the rotor supported on the bearing is based on an extension of the 3-dimensional Transfer Matrix Method(TMM) coupled with the electromagnetic force calculated by Maxwell stress tensor. The displacement of the rotor as a function of frequency according to the position of the unbalanced mass is evaluated from the frequency response function (FRF). The rotor behaviour with the electromagnetic force is compared with that without the electromagnetic force. In addition, the resonance speeds and the vibration modes are analyzed and demonstrated in this paper. These results are useful in designing the mechanical rotor and in balancing properly the rotor to reduce vibration and noise.
