  • There are TOA, TDOA and AOA method to estimate the position of the electromagnetic wave transmitter by using the multiple receivers at the fixed position. Among these methods, AOA method is suitable for the jammer localization system. Because TOA method can be adopted for the clocks of the transmitter and the receiver are synchronized each other, and TDOA method can be only adopted for a broad-band jamming signal. This paper, therefore, analyzes the characteristics of the AOA measurements and the sensitivity of the positioning performance according to the system design parameters. Based on the analyzed results, the jammer localization system to meet the desired performance is designed, and it has been checked that the positioning error for the jammer located at a distance of 10km is lower than 38m through the simulation results.

  • In this study, I presented power control unit with potential use in the magnetic stimulation of biological systems. The effect of the magnetic stimulation depends on the geometry and orientation of the induced electric field as well as on the current pulse waveform delivered by the stimulator coil. TMS is achieved from the outside of the head using pulses of electromagnetic field that induce an electric field in the brain. There are numerous possibities in the applications TMS, such as diagnosis and therapy through the brain stimulation. These factors are very important to define the equipment requirements and characteristics in that the topology of the power supply and the size and geometry of the coil. The proposed solution is the generation of current pulses with variable amplitude and duration, according to a user defined input. Another solution is the topology that uses elements to store and transfer energy from the power source to the load. In addition to proposed topology, an adequate control strategy and right set of the power circuit parameters made possible to obtain unipolar waves and bipolar waves.

  • In this paper, the problem of electromagnetic coupling between a slit fed by a flanged parallel-plate waveguide (FPPW) and a nearby conducting strip parallel to the slit is studied as a simplified problem for a near-field scanning microscopy (NSM). The characteristics of the FPPW are investigated from the results for the variations of the equivalent slit admittance, the reactive powers near the slit inside and outside the FPPW, the magnitude and phase of the voltage reflection coefficient of the TEM wave. The performance of the proposed apparatus as an NSM is tested by examining the effects of various geometrical parameters such as guide height, slit width, strip width, distance between slit and strip, and the ratio of slit width to guide height on the magnitude and phase of the voltage reflection coefficient of the TEM wave. From the results for the voltage reflection coefficient against the strip offset from the slit, it is found that a slit in the FPPW with smaller guide height gives higher scanning resolution and the phase variation is more sensitive than the magnitude variation.

  • Research interest has strongly focused on developing a method for effectively transmitting bio-signals over a distance using a wireless wearable device. In this paper, we describe a procedure for the design and fabrication of a wearable antenna based on embroidering conductive threads to clothing capable of transmitting electrocardiogram signals. 3D electromagnetic simulation software and embroidery software were used to design and fabricate the conductive thread-based antenna, respectively. The measurement results show that the reflection coefficient of the fabricated antenna prototype exhibits excellent antenna impedance matching characteristics of less than -10dB in the Zigbee 2.4GHz frequency band. We also verified that the electrocardiogram data could be effectively received and monitored in real-time by a receiver 220m away from the transmitter.

  • Well-established standards and specifications for medical devices not only provide clarity and consistency in licensing processes but also secure device safety and effectiveness. This study reviewed regulatory standards and specifications for veterinary medical devices in Korea based on data obtained through analyses of those medical devices. General standards for electromechanical, electromagnetic, and biological safety and individual standards for 76 electric and 70 general medical device products have been established by the Korean Ministry of Food and Drug Safety. However, the first standards and specifications for veterinary medical devices were established in March 2000 for two products (disposable needle and syringe). Similar to the large number of standards for medical devices, there have been general standards for safety and individual standards for 72 veterinary medical devices (27 electric medical devices, 12 non-electric medical devices, 10 medical supplies, and 23 other types) established since 2014. These new standards considered, among other aspects, the devices' applications, usage characteristics, and industrial environment. To date, the establishment of standards and specifications for veterinary medical devices remains limited. This study suggests that improvements should be made to the regulation of general and individual standards associated with various veterinary medical instruments, supplies, and in vitro diagnostic medical reagents.

  • This paper deals with electromagnetic characteristics of IPMSM (Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous motor) caused by field weakening current control. In order to extend operation speed, field weakening current control is generally used in IPMSM operation. During field weakening, distorted linkage fluxes are resulted by saturation of core material. Therefore, distorted input voltage waveform is required for sinusoidal current input. As the current vector angle increases for field weakening, distortion of linkage flux and back-emf becomes significant. This situation is analyzed by 2-dimensional finite element analysis and verified by experiment. With the results, it is concluded that motor parameters, such as linkage flux by permanent magnet, phase resistance, d-q axis inductance, are insufficient for estimating required voltage for given speed especially in field weakening and additional considerations for increased harmonics of voltage are required.

  • The engineering ceramic needs the properties of high strength, hardness, corrosion-resistance and heat-resistance in order to withstand thermal shock or applied nonuniform stresses without failure. The densely coated porous ceramics can be used for machine component, electromagnetic component, bio-system component and energy-system component by their high-performances from superior coating properties and light-weight characteristics due to the structure including pore by itself. In this study we controlled the porosity of silica and alumina, $8.2\~25.4\%$ and $23.4\~36.0\%$, respectively, by the control of sintering temperature and starting powder size. We made bilayer structures, consisting of a transparent glass coating layer bonded to a thick substrate of different porous ceramics by a thin layer of epoxy adhesive, facilitated observations of crack initiation and propagation. The elastic modulus mismatch could be controlled using different porous ceramics as the substrate layer. Then we applied 150 N force using WC sphere with a radius of 3.18 mm by Hertzian indentation. As a result, the crack initiation in the coating layer was delayed at lower porosity in the substrate layer, and the damage in the coating layer was relatively smaller at the bilayer structure coated on higher elastic substrate.

  • In this paper, the higher order FDTD(Finite-Difference Time-Domain) method is used to obtain the frequency response characteristics of the cylindrical metamaterial slab. FDTD method is one of strongest electromagnetic numerical method which is widely used to analyze the metamaterial structure because of its simplicity and the dispersive FDTD equation which has the dispersive effective dielectric constant and permeability are derived to analyze the metamaterials. This derived dispersive FDTD equation has no errors in analyzing the dielectric materials but there are some time and frequency errors in case of analyzing the metamaterials. We used the higher order FDTD method to obtain the accurate frequency response of the metamaterials. Comparisons between the dispersive FDTD method and the higher order FDTD method are performed in this paper also. From the results, we concluded that more accurate frequency response for various metamaterials applications can be obtained using the proposed method in this paper.

  • In this study, we aim to describe kinematic characteristics of Korean /l/-flapping in two speech rates (fast vs. comfortable). Production data was collected from seven native speakers of Seoul Korean (four females and three males) using electromagnetic midsagittal articulometry (EMMA), which provided two dimensional data on the x-y plane. We examined kinematic properties of the vertical/horizontal tongue tip gesture, the vertical/horizontal (rear) tongue body gesture, and the jaw gesture in an /i/-/i/ context. Gestural landmarks of the vertical tongue tip gesture are directly measured. This serves as the actual anchoring time points to which relevant measures of other trajectories referred. The study focuses on velocity profiles, closing/opening spatiotemporal properties, constriction duration, and constriction minima were analyzed. The results are summarized as follows. First, gradiently distributed spatiotemporal values of the vertical tongue tip gesture were on a continuum. This shows more of a reduction in fast speech rate, but no single instance of categorical reduction (deletion). Second, Korean /l/-flapping predominantly exhibited a backward sliding tongue tip movement, in 83% of production, which is apparently distinguished from forward sliding movement in English. Lastly, there was an indication of vocalic reduction in fast rate, truncating spatial displacement of the jaw and the tongue body, although we did not observe positional variations with speech rate. The present study shows that Korean /l/-flapping is characterized by mixed articulatory properties with respect to flapping sounds of other languages such as English and Xiangxiang Chinese. Korean /l/ flapping demonstrates a language-universal property, such as the gradient nature of its flapping sounds that is compatible with other languages. On the other hand, Korean /l/-flapping also shows a language-particular property, particularly distinguished from English, in that a backward gliding movement occurs during the tongue tip closing movement. Although, there was no vocalic reduction in V2 observed in terms of jaw and tongue body height, spatial displacement of these articulators still suggests truncation in fast speech rate.
