Objectives The power spectral analysis of electroencephalogram has been widely used to reveal the pathophysiology of the alcoholic brain. However, the results were not consistent and the three dimensional study can be hardly found. The purpose of this study was to investigate characteristics of the three dimensional electroencephalographic (EEG) activity of alcohol dependent patients using standardized low resolution electromagnetic tomography (sLORETA). Methods The participants consisted of 30 alcohol dependent patients and 30 normal healthy controls. All the participants were males who had refrained from alcohol at least one month and were not taking any medications. Thirty two channel EEG data was collected in the resting state with eyes-closed condition during 30 seconds. The three dimensional data was compared between two groups using sLORETA for delta, theta, alpha, beta1, beta2, and beta3 frequency bands. Results sLORETA revealed significantly increased brain cortical activity in alpha, beta1, beta2, and beta3 bands each in alcohol dependent patients compared to normal controls. The voxels showing the maximum significance were in the left transverse temporal gyrus, left superior temporal gyrus, left anterior cingulate, and left fusiform gyrus in alpha, beta1, beta2, and beta3 bands respectively. Conclusions These results suggest that chronic alcohol intake may cause neurophysiological changes in cerebral activity. Therefore, the measuring of EEG can be helpful in understanding the pathophysiology of cognitive impairements in alcohol dependence.

Development of an accurate infrared signature (IR) measurement system is expected to contribute in the development of low observable technology and the spectroscopic analysis of electromagnetic radiation. Application of a spectroradiometer (SR) allows for the measurement of detailed infrared signature from the exhaust plume due to its own heat source. Establishment of a measurement system using a micro-turbo engine is intended to simulate the modelling of the aircraft plume. The engine was installed on a test stand to measure the engine performance. The IR signature was measured by placing the SR perpendicular to the axis line of the exhaust plume. Reference data from the blackbody were also measured to calibrate the raw data, and the infrared signature of the background was also measured for comparison with that of the plume. The calibrated spectral radiance was obtained through the data reduction process and the results were analyzed in specific bands. The experiments revealed that the measurement system established here showed sufficient performance for further comprehensive analysis.
In this paper, we propose a magnetic resonant WPT(wireless power transfer) scenario using a large coil resonating at 6.78 MHz, and compare the characteristics through a three-dimensional electromagnetic field simulation and a magnetic resonant WPT equivalent circuit. The magnetic resonant WPT equivalent circuit proposed in this paper considers the parasitic capacitance generated between the coils in addition to the conventional equivalent circuit. Based on this analysis, we fabricated the magnetic resonant WPT coil and compared it with simulation prediction. As a result of comparison, the transfer characteristics and the resonance frequency shift can be predicted. Error proposed characteristics of equivalent circuit for the magnetic resonant WPT and the measured values are estimated to be ${\Delta}{\mid}S11{\mid}=1.31dB$ and ${\Delta}{\mid}S21{\mid}=1.21dB$, respectively.

Nanotechnology mostly employs nano-materials and nano-structures with distinctive properties based on their size, structure, and composition. It is quite difficult to produce nano-materials and nano-structures with identical sizes, structures, and compositions in large quantities, because of spatiotemporal fluctuation of production processes. In other words, fluctuation is the bottleneck in nanotechnology. We propose three strategies to suppress such fluctuations: employing 1) difference between linear and nonlinear phenomena, 2) difference in time constants, and 3) nucleation as a bottleneck phenomenon. We are also developing nano- and micro-scale guided assembly using plasmas as a plasma nanofabrication.1-5) We manipulate nano- and micro-objects using electrostatic, electromagnetic, ion drag, neutral drag, and optical forces. The accuracy of positioning the objects depends on fluctuation of position and energy of an object in plasmas. Here we evaluate such fluctuations and discuss the mechanism behind them. We conducted in-situ evaluation of local plasma potential fluctuation using tracking analysis of fine particles (=objects) in plasmas. Experiments were carried out with a radio frequency low-pressure plasma reactor, where we set two quartz windows at the top and bottom of the reactor. Ar plasmas were generated at 200 Pa by applying 13.56MHz, 450V peak-to-peak voltage. The injected fine particles were monodisperse methyl methacrylate-polymer spheres of $10{\mu}m$ in diameter. Fine particles were injected into the reactor and were suspended around the plasma/sheath boundary near the powered electrode. We observed binary collision of fine particles with a high-speed camera. The frame rate was 1000-10000 fps. Time evolution of their distance from the center of mass was measured by tracking analysis of the two particles. Kinetic energy during the collision was obtained from the result. Potential energy formed between the two particles was deduced by assuming the potential energy plus the kinetic energy is constant. The interaction potential is fluctuated during the collision. Maximum amplitude of the fluctuation is 25eV, and the average is 8eV. The fluctuation can be caused by neutral molecule collisions, ion collisions, and fluctuation of electrostatic force. Among theses possible causes, fluctuation of electrostatic force may be main one, because the fine particle has a large negative charge of -17000e and the corresponding electrostatic force is large compared to other forces.

Transient luminous events (TLEs; sprites, elves, jets and etc.) are lightning-related optical flashes occurring above thunderstorms. Since the first discovery of sprites in 1989, scientists have learned a great deal about the morphological, spectroscopic and electromagnetic characteristics of TLEs through ground and spacecraft campaigns. However, most of the TLE studies were based on events recorded over US High Plains. To elucidate the possible biasing effects, space-borne observations are needed and have their merits. Imager of sprites and Upper Atmospheric Lightning (ISUAL) on the FORMOSAT-2 satellite is the first instrument to carry out a true global measurement of TLEs from a low- earth orbit. In this short paper, we apply a common astronomical data analysis technique, two-color diagram, on the ISUAL spectrophotometer (SP) data. By choosing appropriated bandpasses and converting the measured flux of TLEs into the unit of magnitude, two-color diagrams of TLEs can be constructed. We demonstrate that two-color diagrams, which were constructed from the narrow-band spectrophotometer data, can be used to classify different types of TLEs and trace their temporal evolution. The amount of reddening due to Earth's atmosphere can also be estimated from two-color diagrams assembled from the broad-band spectrophotometer data.

In recent years, the electromagnetic enviroments are varied with the increase of power consumption and the spread of hoosehold electric appliances. Most of the interests to date have concentrated in the area of human health effects associated with exposure to power frequency electric and rmgretic fields, and thus the precise measurement and analysis are required. In this paper, the measurements and analysis of the extremdy low frequency(ElF) electric and magnetic fields produced by actual 22.9[kV] distribution lines were performed. The experiIrents have been carried rot by lateral rrofile, and the thooretical analyses were made by use of FIELDS program fer the sake of comparison with the experimental data. Electric and magnetic field intensity were strong under power distrib.rticn lines, and were inversely proportional to lateral distance. The pufiles of electric and magnetic fields were M and $\bigcap$ shapes, respectively. and the rreasured data were good in agreemnt with the thooretical results. Both the electric and magnetic field intensity were iocreased with increasing the measurement height.height.

This paper is proposed an efficiency optimization control algorithm for a synchronous reluctance motor which minimizes the coner and iron losses. The design of the speed controller based on adaptive fuzzy-neural networks(AFNN) controller that is implemented using fuzzy control and neural networks. There exists a variety of combinations of d and q-axis current which provide a specific motor torque. The objective of the efficiency optimization controller is to seek a combination of d and q-axis current components, which provides minimum losses at a certain operating point in steady state. The proposed algorithm allows the electromagnetic losses in variable speed and torque drives to be reduced while keeping good torque control dynamics. The control performance of the hybrid artificial intelligent controller is evaluated by analysis for various operating conditions. Analysis results are presented to show the validity of the proposed algorithm.

The growing application and the numerous qualities of induction motors (1M) in industrial processes that require high security and reliability levels has led to the development of multiple methods for early fault detection. However, various faults can occur, such as stator short-circuits and rotor failures. Traditionally the diagnosis machine is done through a sinusoidal power supply, in the present paper we study experimentally the effects of the rotor failures, such as broken rotor bars in function of the ac supplying, the load and show the impact of the converter from diagnosis of the machine. The technique diagnosis used is based on the spectral analysis of stator currents or stator voltages respectively according to the types of induction motor ac supplying. So, four different ac supplying are considered: ${\odot}$ the IM is directly by the balanced three-phase network voltage source, ${\odot}$ the IM is fed by a sinusoidal current source given the controlled by hysteresis, ${\odot}$ the IM is fed (in open loop) by a scalar control imposing through ratio V/f=constant, ${\odot}$ the IM is controlled through a vector control using space vector pulse width modulation (SVPWM) technique inverter with an outer speed loop.

This paper deals with an optimal angle error reduction method of magnetic hall sensor using hall effect elements with yoke. The magnetic position sensor is required to generate ideal sine and cosine waveforms from its hall effect elements according to rotation angle for precise angle information. However, the output signals are easy to include harmonics due to uneven magnetic field distribution from disturbance in the vicinity of hall effect elements. Thus, The paper studies a way which makes sine and cosine waveforms robust in disturbance and reduces harmonics by installing a yoke around Hall effect elements. The angle detection simulation for the magnetic hall sensor is performed by 3 dimensional finite element method and Taguchi method, one of the design of experiments. For the Taguchi method, three design parameters related to position of hall effect elements and shape of hall effect element yoke are selected.

This paper presents theoretical and experimental analysis on the characteristics of the power spectrum of electormagnetic waves radiating from the spark plug and their cables of a distributorless ignition system. The theoretical study was conducted applying the microwave transmission line theory and the antenna theory. The experimental works were carried out to measure the standing wave ratio(SWR) and the radiation power spectrum of this system. As a result, it has been found that a spark plug and its cable is working as a monopole antenna radiating elelctromagnetic waves. Because of its similar structure to a monopole antenna, the envelope of radiation power spectrum distribution has a bell shape which can be obtained from a monopole antenna operating as a series resonant circuit. The frequency characteristics from the SWR measurements show a similar frequency characteristics of power spectrum of the system studied. Also, it has been found that the density of the power spectrum of the system fitting a long time used spark plug is higher than that of fitting a new spark plug.
