  • With weld metal of X65 steel, hydrogen was charged by electro-chemical method and mechanical behavior such as strength was measured by the small punch test. The weld metal was more sensitive to hydrogen charging than the case of base metal. The small punch (SP) strength was decreased as the hydrogen contents increased. Magnitude of strength decrease was dependent on current density, temperature, charging time. Current density and charging time have significant effect on the mechanical properties but temperature of electrolyte has limited effect. Fractured surfaces of the tested specimens were observed by SEM (scanning electron microscope). In the hydrogen charged specimens cleavage fracture were observed, which is consistent with the SP test results. Since the testing procedure for studying hydrogen embrittlement proposed in this study has shown good reproducibility of test results, the proposed method can be assumed to be a reliable test procedure. Using the electrochemical charging and the small punch test, the change of SP strength for X65 weld metal due to hydrogen embritlement could be evaluated sensitively.

  • In this study, two series of CNT/$TiO_2$ electrodes were prepared. The decrease of surface area compared with that of the pristine carbon nanotubes (CNTs) indicated the blocking of micropores on the surface of the CNTs; was further supported by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and field emission SEM (FE-SEM) observations. The X-ray diffraction (XRD) results showed that the CNT/$TiO_2$ composites contained a mix of anatase and rutile forms of $TiO_2$ particles when the precursor was $TiO_2$ powder, whereas when the precursor was Ti ($OC_4H_7$) (TNB), the composites contained only the typical single and clear anatase $TiO_2$ particles. The energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) spectra showed the presence of C, O and Ti peaks for all samples. It was found that catalytic decomposition of methylene blue (MB) solution could be attributed to synthetic effects between the $TiO_2$ photocatalysis and electro-assisted CNTs network, and that photoelectrocatalytic oxidation increased with an increase of CNT composition. It was also found that the photoelectrocatalytic oxidation efficiency for MB is higher than that of photocatalytic oxidation. Moreover, the CNT/$TiO_2$ composites catalyst prepared by the impregnation method demonstrates higher photoelectrocatalytic activity than the mechanical mixture with the same CNT content.

  • In this paper, the comparative steady-state operating performance analysis algorithms of the stand-alone single-phase self-excited induction generator (SEIG) is presented on the basis of the two nodal admittance approaches using the per-unit frequency in addition to a new state variable de-fined by the per-unit slip frequency. The main significant features of the proposed operating circuit analysis with the per-unit slip frequency as a state variable are that the fast effective solution could be achieved with the simple mathematical computation effort. The operating performance results in the simulation of the single-phase SEIG evaluated by using the per-unit slip frequency state variable are compared with those obtained by using the per-unit frequency state variable. The comparative operating performance results provide the close agreements between two steady-state analysis performance algorithms based on the electro-mechanical equivalent circuit of the single-phase SEIG. In addition to these, the single-phase static VAR compensator; SVC composed of the thyristor controlled reactor; TCR in parallel with the fixed excitation capacitor; FC and the thyristor switched capacitor; TSC is ap-plied to regulate the generated terminal voltage of the single-phase SEIG loaded by a variable inductive passive load. The fixed gain PI controller is employed to adjust the equivalent variable excitation capacitor capacitance of the single-phase SVC.

  • Nanogenerators containing biomaterials are eco-friendly electronic devices in terms of being a non-polluting energy source and biodegradable electronic waste. In particular, the amount of waste will be also reduced if the biomaterial can be extracted from biowaste. In this study, a triboelectric nanogenerator was fabricated using animal collagen present in the skin of a mammal and its characteristion was proformed. The electro-anodic layer of the triboelectric nanogenerator was constructed by forming a collagen film using the spin coating method, and it was confirmed that the film was porous from scanning electron microscopy. The fabricated triboelectric nanogenerator exhibited an open-circuit voltage from 7 V at 3 Hz to 15 V at 5 Hz due to periodic mechanical movement, and a short-circuit current of 3.8 uA at 5 Hz. In conclusion, collagen-containing triboelectric nanogenerators can be power source for low-power operating devices such as sensors and are also expected to be useful for reducing electronic waste.

  • The electromembrane process, which has advantages such as scalability, sustainability, and eco-friendliness, is used in renewable energy fields such as fuel cells and reverse electrodialysis power generation. Most of the research to visualize the internal flow in the electromembrane process has mainly been conducted on heterogeneous ion exchange membranes, because of the non-uniform swelling characteristics of the homogeneous membrane. In this study, we successfully visualize the electro-convective vortices near the Nafion homogeneous membrane in PDMS-based microfluidic devices. To reinforce the mechanical rigidity and minimize the non-uniform swelling characteristics of the homogeneous membrane, a newly developed swelling supporter was additionally adapted to the Nafion membrane. Thus, a clear image of electroconvective vortices near the Nafion membrane could be obtained and visualized. As a result, we observed that the heterogeneous membrane has relatively stronger electroconvective vortices compared to the Nafion homogeneous membranes. Regarding electrical response, the Nafion membrane has a higher limiting current and less overlimiting current compared to the heterogeneous membrane. Based on our visualization, it is assumed that the heterogeneous membrane has more activated electroconvective vortices, which lower electrical resistance in the overlimiting current regime. We anticipate that this work can contribute to the fundamental understanding of the ion transport characteristics depending on the homogeneity of ion exchange membranes.

  • Interfacial evaluation of glass fiber reinforced carbon nanotube (CNT)-epoxy nanocomposite was investigated by micromechanical technique in combination with wettability test. The contact resistance of the CNT-epoxy nanocomposite was measured using a gradient specimen, containing electrical contacts with gradually-increasing spacing. The contact resistance of CNT-epoxy nanocomposites was evaluated by using the two-point method rather than the four-point method. Due to the presence of hydrophobic domains on the heterogeneous surface, the static contact angle of CNT-epoxy nanocomposite was about $120^{\circ}$, which was rather lower than that for super-hydrophobicity. For surface treated-glass fibers, the tensile strength decreased dramatically, whereas the tensile modulus exhibited little change despite the presence of flaws on the etched fiber surface. The interfacial shear strength (IFSS) between the etched glass fiber and the CNT-epoxy nanocomposites increased due to the enhanced surface energy and roughness. As the thermodynamic work of adhesion, $W_a$ increased, both the mechanical IFSS and the apparent modulus increased, which indicated the consistency with each other.

  • We have designed and fabricated micro power generators by electroplating which is important in MEMS(micro electro mechanical system) technique. We have electroplated MEMS coils on the glass substrates and have chosen one of these coils for experiments. The thickness, width, and length of the coil are $7{\mu}m,\;20{\mu}m$, and 1.6 m, respectively. We have analyzed the structure of MEMS coil by SEM. We have made a vibrating system for reproducible results in measurement. With reciprocating a magnet on the surface of a fabricated winding coil, the micro power generator produce an alternating voltage. We have changed the vibrational frequency from 0.5 Hz to 8 Hz. The generated voltage was 106 mV at 3 Hz and 198 mV at 6 Hz. We aim at the micro power generator which can change vibration energy to useful electric energy.
