Compared to the commercial networks, R&E networks have the strength such as flexible network engineering and design. Based on those features of R&E networks, we propose our storage cloud service model which supports general-purpose network users in a central region and experimental network users in distributed regions simultaneously. We prototype our service model utilizing multiple proxy controllers of OpenStack Swift service in order to deploy several regions via experimental backbone networks. Our experiments on the influence of the network latency and the size of data to be transmitted show that the bigger size of data is preferable to the smaller size of data in an experimental backbone network where the network latency increases within 10ms because the rate of throughput decline in the bigger object is comparatively small. It means that our service model is appropriate for experimental network users who directly access the service in order to move intermittently high volume of data as well as normal users in the central region who access the service frequently.
The production of advanced high strength steels requires the improvement of cooling technology. The use of high cooling rates allows relatively low levels of expensive alloying additions to ensure sufficient hardenability. In classical annealing and hot-dip galvanizing lines a mixing station is used to provide atmosphere gas containing 3-5% hydrogen and 97-95% nitrogen in the various sections of the furnace, including the rapid cooling section. Heat exchange enhancement in this cooling section can be insured by the increased hydrogen concentration. Drever International developed a patented improvement of cooling technology based on the following features: pure hydrogen gas is injected only in the rapid cooling section whereas the different sections of the furnace are supplied with pure nitrogen gas; the control of flows through atmosphere gas management allows to get high hydrogen concentration in cooling section and low hydrogen content in the other furnace zones. This cooling technology development insures higher cooling rates without additional expensive hydrogen gas consumption and without the use of complex sealing equipments between zones. In addition reduction in electrical energy consumption is obtained. This atmosphere control development can be combined with geometrical design improvements in order to get optimised cooling technology providing high cooling rates as well as reduced strip vibration amplitudes. Extensive validation of theoretical research has been conducted on industrial lines. New lines as well as existing lines, with limited modifications, can be equipped with this new development. Up to now this technology has successfully been implemented on 6 existing and 7 new lines in Europe and Asia.

In this study, multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) were compounded with the poly($\varepsilon$-caprolactone) (PCL) matrix at the solution state using chloroform. For homogeneous dispersion of MWCNTs in polymer matrix, oxygen-containing groups were introduced on the surface of MWCNTs. The mechanical properties of the PCL/MWCNTs composites were effectively increased due to the incorporation of MWCNTs. The composites were characterized using scanning electron microscopy in order to obtain information on the dispersion of MWCNT in the polymeric matrix. In case of 1.2 wt% of MWCNTs in the matrix, strength and modulus of the composite increased by 12.1% and 164.3%, respectively. In addition, the dispersion of MWCNTs in the PCL matrix resulted in substantial decrease of the electrical resistivity of the composites as the MWCNTs loading was increased from 0 to 2.0 wt%. Furthermore, thermal stability of the PCL and PCL/MWCNTs-COOH composites were investigated using the data acquired from the thermogravimetric analysis. The detailed kinetics of the thermal degradation of the composites was investigated by analyzing their thermal behavior at different heating rates in a nitrogen atmosphere. Activation energy of thermal degradation was determined by using the equations proposed by Kissinger and Flynn-Wall-Ozawa. The apparent activation energy of PCL/MWCNTs-COOH composite was considerably higher than that of neat PCL.

A theoretical analysis and measurement technique to determine the complex permittivity and permeability of cylindrical and ring type dielectric resonators is given. The resonant frequency, unloaded quality factor and physical dimensions of dielectric resonator placed between two parallel conducting plates are used to evaluate the complex permittivity and permeability. This process is repeated for other higher-order modes to expand the evaluation at higher resonant frequencies. The nature of each mode is identified by measuring the variations of field strength along the azimuthal and longitudinal direction. An error analysis taking into account various error sources reveals that $TE_{0np}$ or quasi-TE modes yield the least amount of measurement error, which is less than $0.5{\%}$for the real part, $4{\%}$for the imaginary part of complex permittivity.
Linear GMR isolator which is profitable for transmitting analog signal was modeled and the output voltage and current in relation to the input current were investigated. GMR isolator modeling was divided into two parts, namely magnetic and electric parts. The flow chart of the modeling was drawn in which the MR curve of the spin valves were incorporated to obtain the electrical voltage output. For magnetic modeling, 3-dimensional model of planar coil was analyzed by FEM method to obtain the magnetic field strength corresponding to the input current. Coil efficiency of the planar coil having magnetic core layer was shown to have about 1.5 times larger than that of the coil without the magnetic core layer. The feedback coil current(output current) corresponding to the input coil current was calculated to be within ${\pm}$0.25 mA of the linear fitting function of I$\_$out/= I$\_$in/-5 mA. Also, the response time and output waveforms were obtained when the coil current was a rectangular waveform. The rise time and fall time was 6 ${\mu}\textrm{s}$, respectively when the slew rate of the op-amp was 0.3 V/${\mu}\textrm{s}$.
Flat rolling of wire is an industrial process used to manufacture electrical flat wire, medical catheters, springs, piston segments and automobile parts, among other products. In a multi-step wire flat rolling process, a wire with a circular crosssection is rolled at room temperature between two flat rolls in several passes to achieve the desired thickness to width ratio. To manufacture a flat wire with a homogeneous microstructure, mechanical and metallurgical properties with an appropriate pass schedule, this study investigated the effect of each pass schedule (1stand ~ 4stand) on the microstructures, mechanical properties and widths of cold rolled high carbon steel wires using four-pass flat rolling process. The evolutions of the microstructures and mechanical properties of the widths of cold rolled wires during three different pass schedules of the flat rolling process of high carbon wires were investigated, and the results were compared with those for a conventional eight-pass schedule. In the width of cold rolled wires, three different pass schedules are clearly distinguished and discussed. The experimental conditions were the same rolling speed, rolling force, roll size, tensile strength of the material and friction coefficient. The experimental results showed that the four-pass flat cold rolling process was feasible for production of designed wire without cracks when appropriate pass schedules were applied.
Airborne transient electromagnetic (ATEM) surveying was introduced several decades ago in the mining industry to detect shallow conductive targets. However, conventional ATEM systems have limited depth of investigation because of weak signal strength. Recently, the grounded electrical source airborne transient electromagnetic (GREATEM) system was proposed to increase the depth of investigation. The GREATEM is a semi-airborne transient electromagnetic system because a long grounded wire is used as the transmitter. Traditionally, ATEM sounding data have been interpreted with 1D earth models to save the computing time because modern ATEM systems generally collect large data sets. However, the GREATEM 1D modeling requires numerical integration along the wire, so it takes much more time than the 1D modeling of conventional ATEM. In this study, the adaptive Born forward mapping (ABFM) was applied to the ATEM 1D modeling because the ABFM is incommensurably faster than the ordinary GREATEM 1D modeling. Comparing the results from ordinary and ABFM 1D modeling, it was confirmed that the ABFM can be applied to the 1D modeling of GEATEM.

$CoSb_3$-based skutterudite compounds are candidate materials for thermoelectric power generation in the mid-temperature range (600 - 900 K) because their thermoelectric properties can be enhanced by doping and filling. The joining property of thermoelectric module electrodes containing thermoelectric materials is of great importance because it can dominate the efficiency of the thermoelectric module. This study examined the properties of $CoSb_3$/Al/Ti/CuMo joined by the spark plasma sintering technique. Titanium thin foil was used to prevent the diffusion of copper into $CoSb_3$ and Aluminum thin foil was used to improve the adhesion between $CoSb_3$ and Ti. The insertion of an Aluminum interlayer between the Ti and $CoSb_3$ was effective for joining $CoSb_3$ to Ti by forming an intermediate layer at the Al-$CoSb_3$ boundary without any micro cracks. Specifically, the adhesion strength of the Ti/Al/$CoSb_3$ joining interface showed a remarkable improvement compared with our previous results, without deterioration of electrical property in the interface.
This paper presents numerical and experimental results on the use of guided waves for structural health monitoring (SHM) of crack growth during a fatigue test in a thick steel plate used for civil engineering application. Numerical simulation, analytical modeling, and experimental tests are used to prove that piezoelectric wafer active sensor (PWAS) can perform active SHM using guided wave pitch-catch method and passive SHM using acoustic emission (AE). AE simulation was performed with the multi-physic FEM (MP-FEM) approach. The MP-FEM approach permits that the output variables to be expressed directly in electric terms while the two-ways electromechanical conversion is done internally in the MP-FEM formulation. The AE event was simulated as a pulse of defined duration and amplitude. The electrical signal measured at a PWAS receiver was simulated. Experimental tests were performed with PWAS transducers acting as passive receivers of AE signals. An AE source was simulated using 0.5-mm pencil lead breaks. The PWAS transducers were able to pick up AE signal with good strength. Subsequently, PWAS transducers and traditional AE transducer were applied to a 12.7-mm CT specimen subjected to accelerated fatigue testing. Active sensing in pitch catch mode on the CT specimen was applied between the PWAS transducers pairs. Damage indexes were calculated and correlated with actual crack growth. The paper finishes with conclusions and suggestions for further work.

In this paper, we propose an open loop power control algorithm to control transmission power of the On-The-Move(OTM) Satcom terminal in GEO satellite communication environment. The proposed algorithm identifies the current channel state restricted by an obstacle or an antenna depointing loss based on the received beacon signal strength. On the basis of the determined signal attenuation causes, the OTM Satcom terminal turns off the RF output when an antenna tracking is failed. If the OTM Satcom terminal experiences a channel blockage by an obstacle, the terminal spreads the transmit data to increase data reception probability. To evaluate the performance of the proposed algorithm, we compare an adjacent satellite interference level and an outage probability. The results show the performance of the proposed algorithm is better than that of the conventional algorithm.
