  • Cruise control is a technology for automatically maintaining a steady speed of vehicle as set by the driver via controlling throttle valve and brake of vehicle. In this paper we investigate cruise controller design method with consideration for distance to vehicle ahead. We employ linear time varying (LTV) model to describe longitudinal vehicle dynamic motion. With this LTV system we approximately model the nonlinear dynamics of vehicle speed by frequent update of the system parameters. In addition we reformulate the LTV system by transforming distance to leading vehicle into variation of system parameters of the model. Note that in conventional control problem formulation this distance is considered as disturbance which should be rejected. Consequently a controller can be designed by pole placement at each instance of parameter update, based on the linear model with the present system parameters. The validity of this design method is examined by simulation study.

  • The two-degree-of-freedom direct drive induction motor, which is capable of linear, rotary and helical motion, has a wide application in special industry such as industrial robot arms. It is inevitable that the linear motion and rotary motion generate coupling effect on each other on account of the high integration. The analysis of this effect has great significance in the research of two-degree-of-freedom motors, which is also crucial to realize precision control of them. The coupling factor considering the coupling effect is proposed and addressed by 3D finite element method. Then the corrected mathematical model is presented by importing the coupling factor. The results from it are verified by 3D finite element model and prototype test, which validates the corrected mathematical model.

  • This paper studied cogging torque reduction effect for sloping notch applied two notches on stator teeth. We have confirmed accuracy of FEM(Finite Element Method) through comparison previous model using asymmetric notch for experiment and 3D FEM results, and then cogging torque comparison of previous model and sloping notch model. Also the sloping notch model has been modified to step-sloping notch model to consider manufactur. The modification method of sloping notch changed the degree of slope of notch (a)(Notch(a) sloping Deg) and the degree of Slope of notch (b)(Notch(b) Sloping Deg). When Cogging torque is case of minimum, Notch (a) Sloping Deg is $-12[^{\circ}]$ and Notch(b) Sloping Deg $12[^{\circ}]$. In this case, cogging torque was about 23.9[mNm]. Cogging torque of previous model is about 40.8[mNm], so sloping notch model is less than previous model by 41.42[%]. Also, if sloping notch model is changed to step-sloping notch model, cogging torque of step-sloping notch model is about 24.82[mNm], Therefore the difference between the two cogging torque is about 3.85[%], so step-sloping notch model can be applied when considering manufacture.

  • This paper presents a dynamic, electric-thermal model for a photovoltaic (PV) cell that combines electrical and thermal parameters. In this model, the irradiance and ambient temperature are used to calculate the PV cell temperature based on a five-layer thermal model. The cell temperature is then used in the electrical model to accurately adjust the PV cell output electrical characteristics and power. A custom experimental setup was built to test and verify the electrical and thermal characteristics of the PV cell and its surrounding layers. The electric-thermal model is validated using experimental data in realistic scenarios. This PV model can be scaled up and used to simulate PV systems in wide variety of applications, extreme environmental conditions, and fault conditions in real-time.

  • A model of a permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) with an inter turn short fault is proposed using a deformed flux model. The deformed flux model includes not only the fault winding flux information but also the inductance variation of the healthy winding considering the configuration of the winding distribution. With the deformed flux model and the positive sequence current assumption, the proposed model is derived in the positive and negative sequence synchronous reference frame (SRF). The finite elements method (FEM) simulation is applied to validate the proposed PMSM model with inter turn short fault.

  • This paper presents a neural net type process model for enhancing learning compensation function in hot strip finishing rolling mill. Adequate input and output variables of process model are chosen, the proposed model was designed as single layer neural net. Equivalent carbon content, strip thickness and rolling speed are suggested as input variables, and looper's manipulation variable is proposed as output variable. According to simulation result using process data to show the validity of the proposed process model, neural net type process model's outputs give almost similar data to process output under same input conditions.

  • In this paper, we consider a robust output feedback model predictive controller(MPC) design for Wiener model. Nonlinearities that couldn't be represented in static nonlinearity block of Wiener model are regarded as uncertainties in linear block. An dynamic output feedback controller design method is presented for Wiener MPC. According to MPC algorithm, the control law is computed based on linear matrix inequality(LMI)at each sampling time by solving convex optimization. Also, a new parameter dependent Lyapunov function is proposed to get a less conservative condition. The results are illustrated with numerical example.

  • This paper proposes a new on-line fuzzy model identification(ONFID) algorithm in which the fuzzy model evaluation stage is incorporated. The fuzzy model evaluation is performed by the fuzzy equality index which is known to be a useful tool to evaluate the performance of the identified fuzzy model. Then the fuzzy model is updated according to the result of the evaluation. Proposed ONFID algorithm can sensibly identify to the system changes. To show the usefulness of the proposed algorithm, it is applied to the fuzzy model identification problem of the gas furnace and the output prediction problem of the flexible joint manipulator which is a nonlinear system.

  • This paper presents the procedure to construct equivalent model of large power system based on nonlinear time simulation responses. It consists of coherency identification, generator aggregation and network reduction. Coherency index that can be directly implemented to this procedure is proposed. Generator aggregation based on detailed model is performed. This procedure can be used to construct equivalent model in PSS/E. It is also possible to reduce the large power system directly from the nonlinear time responses. This procedure is applied to the transient stability analysis of Korea power system that now experiences rapid changes. The equivalent model is compared with the original model in its size, accuracy, speed and performance. This paper shows that the developed equivalent model is a good estimate of the original system.
