  • Fire or electrical problem while DC electric traction vehicle operation caused by various reasons can lead to not only suspension of the operation, but also severe aftermath such as massive casualty. In this paper, fire analysis on DC electric traction vehicle caused by electrical breakdown on line breaker, which is in connection with the power supply, is presented. When the electric arc, the by-product of frequent line breaker operation, is not fully diminished, it leads to electrical breakdown and fire. Especially, electrical breakdown can be easily induced by the open-and-close operation of inner contractor inside line breaker, eventually followed by ground fault and generation of transient current. Electric arc is consequent on the ground fault and acts as possible ignition source, leading to fire. Also, during the repetitive operation of the line breaker, the contactor is separated each other and some copper powder is generated, and the copper powder provided breakdown path, resulting in fire.

  • There are 1,550 small or large traditional markets in the whole country. They have many dangerous elements of fire, because of using various electrical products in poor and small space. Recently, government has supported the modernization of traditional market. But, only 50% of them has modernized. There has always been high level of fire risks because of the both modernized and nonmodernized facility are not fit for "Technical Standards on Electrical Facilities". Accordingly, we examined electrical facility setting and use about modernized and non modernized traditional markets which has ever been fired.

  • This study examined a fire accident caused by a defect in the vehicle ABS module. A large number of vehicles using the same manufacturer's ABS module in recent fire events showed a tendency to combust due to the same faults. As previously stated in the ABS module which shows the electrical breakdown between the power lines supplied to the constant power source by the battery. The electrical breakdown of the ABS module was caused by defects of the ABS module itself that were influenced by of the external flame. These results highlight the need to determine if there is a deficiency of the ABS module in the investigation of the cause of a fire in a vehicle which is produced by the same manufacturer.

  • To investigate the electrical fire identification due to conductor structure analysis of an electrical wire, we are studied by temperature heating test, over current test, short test and electric molten marks. And metal structure analysis of wire by short, we are found out increase in crystal grain with heating temperature. Structure of specimen at over current 300[%] occurred hardly structure formation and boundary of grain.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the thermal characteristics and to study fire hazard of electric leakage by iron power accumulated on circuit breaker in an iron processing factory. The thermal characteristics were analyzed while current was applied to the powder for ten minutes. Results showed that temperature of iron powder at 100 mA is $160^{\circ}C$ and at 175mA is $240^{\circ}C$. The sparks have occurred as iron powder drops between two(hot line and neutral line) wires and then iron powder explosion occurred while dropping continuously the iron powder on two lines. Those who work in the iron processing industry need to periodically remove and maintain the iron powder. The thermal characteristics in this paper can be used for electrical fire investigation and for basic data of thermal characteristic of leakage current through iron powder at iron processing factories.

  • Since the very first use of optical systems in the process industries there has been a tacit assumption that, because they are not electrical, they do not present an ignition risk when used in flammable atmospheres. This paper describes about an optical ignition mechanism from experimental work carnied out by Sira Safety Services Limited(UK) and whether there is sufficient of an ignition risk for precautions to be advisable when optical systems are used in flammable atmospheres.

  • Forest fire can cause a serious damage to overhead conductors. Therefore, detailed investigation on the changes of mechanical and electrical properties of damaged conductors should be carried out to understand the effect of forest fires on conductors. This is of critical importance in maintaining transmission line safely. This paper examines the changes of mechanical and electrical properties of flame exposed conductor. Tensile strength (TS) decreased according to increase of forest fire temperature and conductivity changed according to forest fire temperature. Specimens were aluminum conductors of aluminium conductor steel reinforced (ACSR) 410, 240, 480 $mm^2$. In this paper, the electrical and mechanical characteristics of forest fires exposed overhead conductors depending on the diameter of aluminum conductors are presented. It was possible to estimate the degree of deterioration caused by forest fires. The detailed results are given in the paper.

  • This study analyzed the cause and liability of a car fire. The car was purchased 1 year ago and had traveled 8,500 km. When the car stopped at a red right and was about to start when the light turned green, the car next to it sounded itsa horn. As a result, the driver stopped the car and found that there was a fire in the engine compartment, which the fire brigade subsequently extinguished. This car fire may have been caused by an electrical spark from a screw hook inserted into the battery + terminal. Therefore, the courts decided that the car owner or driver was not responsible for the fire, because the electrical spark from the hook that caused it resulted from the automaker's manufacturing defect.
