  • With the growing interest in fossil fuel depletion and environmental pollution, railroad cars operating in Korea are in progress as the conversion from diesel to electric vehicles expands. The photovoltaic system, which is applied as an example of the conversion of electric vehicles, is infinite and pollution-free, and can produce energy without generating hazards such as air pollution, noise, heat, and vibration, and maintain fuel transportation and power generation facilities. There is an advantage that is rarely needed. However, the amount of electricity produced depends on the amount of solar radiation by region, and the energy density is low due to the power generation of about 25㎡/ kWp, so a large installation area is required and the installation place has limited problems. In view of these problems, many studies have been applied to fuel cells in the railway field. In particular, the plan to link the fuel cell power generation system railroad power supply system must be linked to the power supply system that supplies power to the railroad, unlike solar and wind power. Therefore, it has a close relationship with railroad cars and the linkage method can vary greatly depending on the system topology. Therefore, in this paper, we study the validity through simulation modeling related to linkage analysis according to system topology.

  • In our society, the advanced, advanced, and information industries have continued to grow and now live in the era of the fourth industrial revolution. As the industry develops, the load of the users has also increased so much that it is deepened by the energy shortage phenomenon and the construction of additional energy facilities is required. Therefore, energy plant construction work is being actively carried out in the coastal area. In particular, it is common to build a plant in the ground by filling the coast with soil in other regions, reflecting the fact that Korea is lacking in the country when constructing power plants, gas and petrochemical plants. Current domestic grounding designs are designed or constructed to suit only the use of grounding resistors based on the electrical equipment design technical standards. However, in the case of a plant facility constructed in the untested buried soil, when the lightning current and the abnormal current are inputted, the facility operator or the user due to the elevation of the ground potential is seriously exposed to the risk of electric shock disaster. In this paper, we analyze the ground resistivity of the landfilled soil and use a computer program (CDEGS) based on KS C IEC 61936-1, We analyze the contact voltage and stratification voltage and propose a grounding design optimized for plant installation.

  • Recently, the demand for electricity is gradually increasing due to the rapid industrial development and the improvement of living standards. In the case of Korea, which is highly dependent on fossil fuels due to such a surge in electricity demand, reduction and freezing of greenhouse gas emissions due to international environmental regulations will immediately lead to a contraction in industrial activities. Accordingly, there are many difficulties in competition with advanced countries that want to link the environment with the country's industrial production activities, and the development of alternative energy as a countermeasure is of great interest around the world. Among these new power generation methods, small-scale power generation facilities with relatively small capacity include photovoltaic generation, wind power generation, and fuel cell generation. Among them, the fuel cell attracts the most attention in consideration of continuous operation, high power generation efficiency, and long-term durability, which are important factors for practical use. Therefore, in this paper, the fuel cell power generation system was researched and constructed by designing the power conversion circuit necessary to finally obtain the AC power used in our daily life by using the DC power generated from the fuel cell as an input.

  • Risk assessment and analysis for a medium-to-small sized chemical plant that manufactures a polyester resin by the process of batch-type condensation reaction was conducted using K-PSR technique which is one of the risk assessment methods used to implement the Process Safety Management System (PSM). K-PSR is a risk assessment technique developed by KOSHA to compensate for difficulties caused by the lack of infrastructure of medium-to-small sized chemical plants in the re-evaluation. To apply the K-PSR technique, the entire process of a selected chemical palnt was classified in two review sections, i.e., the condensation reaction process and the dilution/filtration process, and the potential risks of the process about these review sections were identified and classified based on the four guide-words (release, fire.explosion, process trouble, and injury). As the results of the research, refer to recommend of risk rating has been confirmed that non-destructive testing of old facilities and the preparation of LOTO procedures for the electrical equipments are necessary as specific measures to prevent the risk of release and fire.explosion. It was also shown that pressure gauges and thermometers should be installed on the hot-oil supply piping to minimize the process trouble, and exhausting hood should be installed to prevent potential injury.

  • Korea's water transmission system is operated by the nonpressure flow method that flows from highlands to lowlands due to the nature of Korea with many mountainous areas. In order to store water in the highlands, the water pumps are installed and operated. However, In this process, a lot of electrical energy is consumed. therefore, it is necessary to minimize the energy consumption by optimizing the size and operation schedule of the water pumps. The optimal capacity and operation method of the water pump are affected by the size of the tank (distributing reservoir). Therefore, in order to economically design and operate the water transmission system, it is reasonable to consider both the construction cost of the water pump and the tank and the long-term operation cost of the water pump at the step of determining the scale of the initial facilities. In this study, the optimum design model was developed that can optimize both the optimal size of the water pump and the tank and the operation scheduling of the water pump by using the genetic algorithm (GA). The developed model was verified by applying it to the water transmission systems operated in Korea. It is expected that this study will help to estimate the optimal size of the water pump and the tank in the initial design of the water transmission system.

  • Varied methods have been researched continuously because the past as the daily maximum electricity demand expectation has been a crucial task in the nation's electrical supply and demand. Forecasting the daily peak electricity demand accurately can prepare the daily operating program about the generating unit, and contribute the reduction of the consumption of the unnecessary energy source through efficient operating facilities. This method also has the advantage that can prepare anticipatively in the reserve margin reduced problem due to the power consumption superabundant by heating and air conditioning that can estimate the daily peak load. This paper researched a model that can forecast the next day's daily peak load when considering the influence of temperature and weekday, weekend, and holidays in the Seasonal ARIMA, TBATS, Seasonal Reg-ARIMA, and NNETAR model. The results of the forecasting performance test on the model of this paper for a Seasonal Reg-ARIMA model and NNETAR model that can consider the day of the week, and temperature showed better forecasting performance than a model that cannot consider these factors. The forecasting performance of the NNETAR model that utilized the artificial neural network was most outstanding.

  • This study has focused on analysis factors affecting safety monitoring system at tailings sites, and the evaluation equipment to monitor the factors. Twenty sites at eighteen mines with unsafe conditions were selected to examine the equipment. There were three main factors influenced safety in the sites including surface erosion, piping, and slope instability. In detail, the surface erosion was divided into three sub-factors (planting, soil-topping layer, and tailings), piping into three sub-factors (liner, rain protection facility and leachate), and slop instability was also divided into three sub-factors (slop, concrete wall, and reinforcing wall). As results of in-field measurement, a CCTV was the most effective facility, and electrical resistivity survey, acoustic sensing, thermal liner sensor, structure inclinometer, rainfall meter, and flowmeter were also highly effective. According to applications of the facilities in the unstable tailings, structural defects were mainly found in the piping, which was the most important monitoring factor for safety management of tailings sites.

  • Printed circuit boards (PCBs) are a basic component in the electronics industry and are widely used in nearly all electronic products, such as mobile phones, tablet computers, and digital cameras, as well as in electric equipment. PCB manufacturing involves the use of many chemicals and chemical processes and therefore has more risks than other manufacturing sectors. This study aims to identify the causes of possible accidents during PCB manufacturing through risk assessment, develop and implement safety measures, and evaluate the effectiveness of these measures. Note that the safety measures developed to mitigate the risks of a certain process were also implemented for other similar processes. The risk assessments conducted over seven years, from 2015 to 2021, at a PCB manufacturing company identified 361 hazardous processes. Between 2016 and 2019, 41-56 hazardous processes were identified per year; such processes decreased to fewer than 20 per year after 2020. Application of the risk assessment results to the improvement of the hazardous processes with the similar characteristics seems to be effective in decreasing the risks. Equipment-related factors such as lack of appropriate maintenance, low work standards, and defective protection devices were responsible for 59.8% of all possible accidents. Because PCB manufacturing involves many chemicals, skin contact with hazardous substances, electric shock, fire, and explosion were the most common types of possible accidents (81.7%). In total, 505 safety measures were implemented, including 157 related to purchase and improvement of equipment and devices for safety (31.1%), 147 related to the installation/modification of fire prevention facilities (29.1%), and 69 related to the use of standard electrical appliances (13.7%). Risk assessment conducted after implementing the safety measures showed that these measures significantly decreased risk; 247 processes (68.4%) had a risk level of 3, corresponding to "very low," and 114 processes (31.6%) showed a risk level of 4, corresponding to "low." In particular, risk assessment of 104 processes with risk scores of 12 and 10 other processes with risk score of 16 showed that the risk decreased to 4 after implementing the safety measures. Thus, implementing these measures in similar manufacturing sectors that involve chemical processes can mitigate risk.
